BEING CRACKED

cracked egg

As a wordsmith, you would guess I love words. I especially have had fun with the word cracked. It has so many applications, insinuations and meanings.

You can crack up, but not crack down however you can be a crackpot. You can have a cracked egg, a cracked tooth, a cracked glass, or a cracked piece of food like a cookie or a cracker, which seems redundant somehow. Your car can have a cracked axle, a cracked window or a cracked tire. Outdoors we have cracks in the school yard which smell of tar, cracks in the street which are asphalt or cement or perhaps, as in our town an old cracked brick street. You can have a crack in your home’s foundation. Plumbers can have cracked pipes and cracks in well, other places…you know. They appear to be famous for their posterior cracks.

Right now I am dealing with a cracked vertebra, a bone along my spine. That particular crack has affected my entire life, as I wait to heal and mend. I have been lying down for almost three weeks with brief periods of sitting with a very hot heating pad crammed against my posterior regions and lower back. That’s caused me to fall in love with my heating pad and I was already very fond of it. I’ve had many heating pads over the years of living with chronic pain. This pain incidentally, is not chronic; it is acute. I’m using a Hurrycane to assist me to get into the bathroom. It was recommended to me to stay in the hospital for care but the thought was an appalling one to me. I love my gelfoam mattress, my pets and my family. I adore my cozy old Victorian home and large oversized HD TV. When it comes to passing the time as I wait to heal, old movies are my favorite choice of activity if one could actually call it active. I love needlework and reading but my eyes tire easily these days and my vision is blurred a bit due to all the pain pills I’m taking. If I wish to breathe deeply to avoid pneumonia, move without wanting to vomit then they are my only choice. Pills, pills everywhere and keeping them straight is of vital importance. I make notes and watch the clock very closely out of fear of becoming addicted to these necessary evils. I also suffer from IBS and the classic constipation brought on by narcotics. How do the drug addicts of this world ever go? I must ask one someday. I take a natural aloe vera laxative with Senna, a stool softener and all the cherry juice I can drink. I find it just as effective as prune juice and much more palatable, particularly when it’s mixed with white grape juice.

I find I’m becoming a bit of an expert on osteoporosis which sneaked up on me and caused this, my second fracture of the spine in a year. As fate would have it, I had my first bi-annual injection of Zometa on the day I broke my back. Thank you Lord for your timing, which is always perfect.

For many years we have had a tiny refrigerator upstairs where our bedroom is located and it is now stuffed with items for their vitamin and particular calcium value. Bottles of chilled Ensure, yogurt, cheese and cut up vegies are in full stock. The vegies are complements of my dear daughter because my husband, Jim wouldn’t know the difference between a piece of Kale or a tomato. It is wonderful how Jim has taken to doing a bit of cooking for a guy whose entire repertoire previously consisted of cornflakes or a can of soup or chili. With instruction from me, he has mastered the art of scrambled eggs with cheese, baking bacon and actually made us delicious grilled cheese sandwiches without burning them which is a real feat. They always remind me of the days when we were dating almost forty years ago. He used to go into the hospital cafeteria where we both worked, and met, and ask the cook to “burn ‘em.” In Jim jargon this means not truly burnt but thoroughly melted cheese. What’s a good cheese sandwich if it isn’t melted completely?

It grieves me to admit it, as a retired nurse, but although I am homebound, I choose not to have homecare because it is not of the caliber it once was. I miss in-bed shampoos, thorough bed baths, and those wonderful old triple H enemas which stood for “high, hot and a hell of a lot.” I know from going through homecare with friends those items are gone…long gone and they are the only reason I would have homecare. Today one gets a packaged moist towelette handed to them, a Fleet enema offer and no shampoo unless it’s powdered. Are you old enough to remember those heavenly backrubs that used to be standard fare in hospital care? They have also gone the way of the 8 track tape. The stairs cause me great discomfort followed by a bad day and sleepless night therefore I have only gone down once a week to shower…don’t ask and definitely don’t inhale.

My independent spirit prevails inside this cracked shell and I am thankful for that, lest I crack up. My energy is depleted from all the bedrest and I do try to walk when up, if only a few feet and back again. I am constantly accompanied by my little Yorkie, George who is a wonderful and caring nurse. Jake our other pet is usually downstairs and prefers it that way in his advanced years.

Since Jim is still working fulltime, my days are spent sleeping as well as seeking entertainment and I constantly remind myself, this too shall pass, heal and be made right once again.

I know each of you who have read this far are those who also suffer. My concerns are with you as you share them with me. I have been online far less due to the painful position required so please know you are in my heart and prayers as I know I am in yours.

Happy healing to each of us.

  1. Dear Sue, Thanks for your words. You know you are always in my thoughts and prayers. I have been getting over a fall I took 2 weeks ago. Sprained my right wrist and got a hematoma just below my right knee. Made writing and walking a little difficult, nothing like what you are going through, but it really slowed me down. Be patient and this too will heal. Love, Janet

    • Janet dear, it seems we each have our own burden to carry. I pray you are mending. It sounds so painful and the wrist will take time. Oh dear. Don’t push the getting settled, just take care of yourself. Much love, Sue

      • Dear Janet:
I was worried you hadn’t been on here, but figured you were busy doing something with your moving. God bless, will pray for your swift recovery.
        Love
        Tonie

  2. Dear Sue, I had a very good belly laugh reading about Jim’s cooking because he sounds just like my DH in the kitchen. The only difference is my hubby would ask if I wanted KFC, Taco Bell or McDonalds. KFC grilled chicken is actually quite good if it’s fresh and not dried out. Who is Jake? I’m sure you’ve talked about him in the past but I’m suffering brain fog. Too bad good in-home care has gone the way of the 8-track tape, as has inpatient back massages. My first hospitalization was in 1975 in Pennsylvania and I never got a massage that time or during subsequent stays. Life is treating me well except for the age old complaint of a painful sitter. With both you and I living on the same coastline, I think of you as the wet weather systems move from north to south, knowing you must suffer additional aches and pains from the pressure and dampness. Take care, dear lady. Enjoy your grilled cheese and give the KFC grilled chicken a try. You remain ever in my prayers. Karen. xoxo

    • Karen, Jake is our thirteen year old mini-schnauzer. He’s a dear and very deaf and semi blind. He mostly sleeps but plays in the mornings with Jim and George.
Actually our guys do sound similar. Our KFC is the worst in the northwest and pure grease and fat chicken in my opinion. We have no local Taco Bell and our Mac is occasionally attractive for the fries but little else. I have serious doubts about their beef and never eat it but occasionally will have a fish san.
I’m so sorry you’re still in so much sitter pain dear friend. Actually, for me, the weather has little effect sodon’t worry about me in the rain. I react more to the rays from the sun. Yes, we did have grilled cheese, extra sharp white cheddar by Tillamook. He’s getting very good with them. Do you do exercises for your sitter? Check out some of my old blog on the SI joints. They might help. Much love, Sue

      • Sue, I don’t currently do any exercise for the SI other than walking. I’m very interested to explore the exercises mentioned in some of your older blogs but not sure where to find them. Could you please provide a link or point me in the right direction? Thank you!

  3. SUE MY DEAR ONE, YOU ARE A STRONG PERSON TO BE DOING WHAT YOU ARE. I’M AFRAID I’M CRACKED TOO BUT THIS TIME IT SEEMS TO BE MY HEAD, SEEM TO BE GOING DOWN THAT SLIPPERY SLOPE. DH has to cut down his bp tabs ..bad side effects. And me well I’m better than I was a week ago..still gassy and but the pain is less.but still taking the spasmonal
    Back later Chris

    • Chris, I am sorry but not surprised to hear about your Dad. He’s tough but life takes and demands a terrible toll. Thinking of you and him. Your poor DH has had such a time with those B/P meds the dear guy. Do you have a cuff to take his blood pressure at home? The good news is you are healing from the surgery. Good. Love you and thinking of you, Sue

  5. Sue:
Here’s to your “crack” going quickly away and your strength returning. It amazes me how the back can throw off the rest of the body so quickly. This body is so wonderfully made and teaches us how we work together for the greater good. One thing out of sync upsets the entire workings don’t it ?
We always said someone was “cracked” when they were mentally unstable also 🙂 I know I am 🙂 But I enjoy being off kilter in some ways. I love words, and if I run across one I don’t know, I immediately must look it up to be satisfied. Oh dear friend I so pray for your strength and healing. Please take care.
We have had a couple days of awful rainstorms and very high winds. I found myself praying for safety in the midst of it last night night. THe weather said we had gust of 45 mph, but it seemed more than that to me. I am not a scaredy cat, but it was a bit scary. I went to sleep with it, but when I woke later the quiet was incredible. The calm after the storm.
    God bless you all
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie dear, thanks for your constant vigilance. Hope that shoulder is mending for you. Sorry about the wind and storm. I know that feeling well when the house shakes it is difficult to sleep. Hope the weather cleared for Nikki’s visit. Also pray it’s an enjoyable one for you. Take care of you…Love, Sue

  6. SUE MY FRIEND…………I KEEP THINKING OF YOU IN YOUR HOUSE ALONE ALL DAY TILL YOUR JIM COMES HOME, I HATE THAT FOR YOU, SOUNDS SILLY, BUT BEING IN BED MOST OF THE DAY IS REALLY QUITE TIRING. HAVE YOU BEEN GIVEN ANY INDICATION AS TO WHEN THE “CRACK” MIGHT HEAL? IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO HELP FILL THOSE HOURS?
I THINK BEING GROUNDED AS YOU SO ARE, IS GETTING YOU THROUGH THIS TRAUMA ONCE AGAIN, AS WELL AS BEING AN INCREDIBLY BRAVE LADY………….YOU ARE AN INSPIRATION TO ME, AND I THANK YOU FOR THAT………….GOD IS GOOD, AND WITH ALL OUR PRAYERS, I JUST KNOW YOU WILL COME BACK FROM THIS, WE GET TESTED TO SUCH A DEGREE WHERE WE WONDER HOW TO GO ON…..BUT YOU ARE LIVING PROOF OF THAT………………..THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TROUBLE TO COME UP WITH THIS NEW BLOG……………….I LOVE YOU………………JENNIE XX

  7. Dear Sue (and everyone else, as well) ~

Well, you’ve cracked me up with this blog! I just had to slip that pun in real quick, lest I forget later on. Anyhow, I’ve been able to read most blogs, but that’s about all because of limited time on the computer. A week or so ago I actually started a post about the crazy summer that my husband & I had, but it got too long, and then my hands got weary. I transferred it to a Word document, and may complete it someday….Stay tuned! To make a long story short, dear hubby had one health problem after another, starting in late June. I think at last count there were 6, with number 6 still on-going in the wonderful form of two kidney stones, one in each kidney. Lovely! 🙂 Tomorrow we go downtown for a CT scan and then a surgical consult. Problem is that one of them is a monster at 12 mm, and can’t be allow it’s normal exit (down the ureter). Not sure what the recommendation will be for that one.

I was so sorry to hear of your broken bone, Sue! Yikes! Did they say how long it will be until it heals? Goodness, you’ve been through the wringer this year. Thanks for continuing to write when you can. You are being prayed for. “Endurance & patience, please Lord, for dear Sue as she awaits Your restoration…Amen”

Lots going on with my health problems, but I can’t be typing too much more tonight. I’ll fill ya’ll in another time. Meanwhile, everyone, thanks for being there, and showing courage as you go through the difficulties & pains of these crazy bodies of ours….They’re not what they’re cracked up to be, are they!?!? (hee, hee…)

    Blessings from NC,
    Trish

    • Trish, thanks. Yep we old houses take the most restoring and the most time. Sorry you’re having so many problems dear lady. Don’t know how long I’ll be down, bit better each day but still very painful. Later, Fondly, Sue

  8. HELLO……JUST HAD ANOTHER SESSION AT THE OSTEOPATH’S, HE LEAVES ME ALONE FOR HALF AN HOUR WITH A WARM PAD BEHIND MY NECK TO RELAX AND SOOTHE…..TROUBLE IS, I GET BORED, CAN’T KEEP STILL FOR THAT LONG, PLUS I GET STIFF AND WORRY I WON’T BE ABLE TO GET OF THE TREATMENT TABLE.
SO I THOUGHT I WOULD KEEP BUSY TILL HE CAME BACK, AND DO SOME PILATES….NOT EASY ON A NARROW BED, HE WEARS SNEAKERS, SO I NEVER HEARD HIM COME IN, AND THERE I WAS, LEGS IN THE AIR, SINGING MY HEAD OFF TO THE MUSIC STATION HE ALWAYS HAS ON……….IT WAS AGES BEFORE I SAW HIM DOUBLED UP LAUGHING AT ME…………YOU CAN TELL WE HIT IT OFF HUH??
WELL ITS DULL AND GREY IN MY PART OF FRANCE, BUT VERY MILD……HOPE ITS BETTER WHERE YOU ARE……LOVE TO EVERYONE, TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES………………………..JENNIE XXXXXXXXXX

    • Jennie, well, the weather may be dull and gray but glad you are not. What a hoot. Wish we had all been there to see your laugh of the day for the osteo. You sound a bit better now. Don’t those hot moist pads feel like heaven? When I’m in a session like that I usually write in my head or go down my prayer list of all of you guys. Didn’t you also go to the dentist this week? How did that go?
I’m slightly better but this is such a mountain to climb. Just sitting here propped up in bed is an adventure because my left arms is still weak from the mastectomy and lymphectomy and still very weak with cramping. Bowels always a problem with the pain pills but can’t move without them. So glad when this thing heals. Sorry I’ve been so out of it. Love you much and know you’re in my thoughts. Sue

      • HI SUE…..YES THE HEAT PADS DO FEEL LIKE HEAVEN FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES, BUT AS I SAID I’VE GOT THE ATTENTION SPAN OF A GNAT, AND I DO GET BORED, AND TO BE HONEST, I HURTS BEING IN THE SAME POSITION ALL THAT TIME, HALF AN HOUR…..UG!!!! NOT MUCH HAPPENING HERE AT THE MOMENT, LEAVES ARE FALLING, BUT ITS STILL WARM, NEXT WEEK DOWNHILL ALL THE WAY…….ITS LOVELY TO SEE YOU BACK ON YOUR BLOG AGAIN, A SURE SIGN THAT MAYBE THINGS ARE GETTING A BIT EASIER PERHAPS??? FUNNY YOU SAYING ABOUT YOUR PRAYER LIST LIKE THAT, I DO THAT, ESPECIALLY AT THE END OF A YOGA SESSION IN “CHILD POSE”
YES I WENT TO THE DENTIST, GOING AGAIN NEXT MONTH, HE FILED A BIT OFF A TOOTH AS HE THOUGHT MY BITE WASN’T RIGHT, THANKFULLY IT WAS THE ONE THAT I’D HAD A ROOT CANAL DONE, SO NEVER FELT A THING….CAN’T RIGHTLY SAY ITS MADE MUCH DIFFERENCE.
YES!! ALL THE TABLETS AND STUFF WE ALL HAVE TO TAKE ESPECIALLY YOU, TAKES ITS TOLL ON THE OLD INTESTINES, GOT IBS QUITE BAD OWING TO ALL THAT CRAP FOR THE O/A I SHOVEL DOWN MY GUT……OH FOR A DAY OFF FROM IT ALL HUH?? RIGHT SWEET LADY, NO DOUBT WE WILL TALK SOON….I LOVE YOU…..JENNIE XXX

    • Jennie you cracked me up with your osteopath story! I would love to have seen that! At least you know your doctor will remember you!

  9. Sue, you’re reminding me of the Little Train Who Could right now. Although I can’t quite fit a “cracked” reference in to a train… 🙂 I’m so glad you have little George to keep you company. He’s being a regular little trooper, too. And kudos to Jim for broadening his cooking repertoire! I know I am thankful that now each member of my family can cook to some extent. We’ll never go hungry. 🙂 I did enjoy this latest installment. I read through yesterday, but wasn’t able to comment. Rest and heal well!

Hugs and prayers to all! So many are going through difficult and painful times right now. And if you aren’t, you still have my prayers. 🙂

    • Lyn dear, yep that’s me the Little Engine that Could…I always think I can, think I can, think I can. Glad you’re doing a bit better adapting to fall weather. Hope SB got some news from his MRI…did I miss it? Thinking of you and glad to know you won’t be starving at home with all those cooks. Love you, Sue

  10. Karen, the older blogs are probably available at everydayhealth.com or just by googling sacroiliac joints and pain. In the meantime, look up R. Don Tigny, PT. His exercises are the best. Check out lowback.com as well. Good luck.
I think the reason my pain isn’t worse in rain is because so much of mine is from cartilage decay and not always bone, like now. Do take care and let me know. Love, Sue

  11. Hello my peeps !
Such a BEAUTIFUL day in the Misty Mountains. Driving to swim this am, it was so beautiful with the fog lifting off the mtns and them all colored with: orange, red, gold, yellow. Even purple and pink !! God really gives us a sendoff into winter huh ?
I did a lot of work today inside and out, and I am pretty much worn out. Take care all and have a wonderful weekend !
    Love to all
    Tonie

  12. Lyn, the pool is so awesome. I have been trying to do some aerobics on land, but it just hurts my body too much. I had to prove it to myself, hard-headed. SO…sticking to the pool and bicycle. I tried to sleep in today, but between the dogs wanting to go outside and the phone, …well. So made some coffee, fixed me some apples and a biscuit. Yum. Now I have to finish the baby;s quilt. Put the backing on and I am going to embroider his name and birthday on it. Then I will send it back with Nikki, and I don’t have to pay all that postage. Did all my housework and laundry yesterday so I could just focus on that and rest. I am always so tired the day after I take my mtx these days. It is so much cooler today and overcast. ugh !
Janet , how are you doing ? Hope you are settling in and that you are feeling better. I think of you often.
Suzanne, where have you been ? Not much from you of late.

And I haven’t forgotten the recipe book. I will be able to focus on it this winter and get it finished for Springtime I think. It won’t be much work involved, just jazzing up a bit. If you still have recipes to send me, do so @ toniedalton@gmail.com. Think of it when you get all those recipes out at THanksgiving and Christmas. Then shoot any off you want to be included.

Sue prayers for you today as well. Get well my friend , we need you here.
    Love to all
    Tonie

  13. BRRRRR!! Well I guess fun time is over. Looks like fall is settling in with highs of 60’s and 60’s. 😦 I so dread the cold winter. On the up side. My daughter is coming up to Va today. Not sure if she is coming here or to her Dad’s, but at least she is closer ! I will see her soon enough, just impatient. I did finish the baby quilt. It is not perfect, I didn’t have my big lap ring, couldn’t find it. So had to use an embroidery hoop. But at least it is something he can have from me.I have a couple of cross stitch bibs I am gonna do as well. But they will be after Christmas for sure.
I was up 4 times last night to let Brutus out. Not sure what was going on with him, but he barked to let me know he wanted out and that is rare. So needless to say I am tired this am. So church, home and nap !! 🙂
Prayers for you all this morning. Hope this day finds you well and happy.
    Love to all
    Tonie
ps, Chickie Sue went on another adventure the other day, was out near the road when I was leaving and I backed up to holler at her and scraped the mailbox 😦 so nice set of scratches on the rear quarter panel.

    • HI TONIE………….OH I AM SO PLEASED YOU GOT THE QUILT FINISHED, DON’T FORGET TO PUT A PHOTO UP SO I CAN SEE IT.
MAYBE BRUTUS HAS A GIRLFRIEND, OR PICKED UP THE SCENT OF A RABBIT OR SOMETHING, HE IS NORMALLY OKAY ISN’T HE?
MY DH CUT ALL THE RASPBERRY CANES DOWN TODAY, MADE ME FEEL SAD EVEN THOUGH I CAN’T EAT THEM, STILL GOT BEETS TO PULL AND LEAKS, AND HE HAS PUT SOME BEANS IN A BROWN PAPER BAG AS HE ALWAYS DOES, SO HE CAN USE THEM TO SET NEXT YEAR.
ANOTHER SAD THING, WE LOST A TREE TO THE BLIGHT, HAD TO PULL IT UP TODAY, WE WILL USE IT FOR FIREWOOD, IT HOUSED THE BIRD FEEDING TRAY, SO WE WILL HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER HOME FOR THEM.
WE HAD TEMPS OF 70C TODAY, BUT I THINK THAT’S IT NOW….RAIN FOR THE NEXT FOUR DAYS. WELL I HOPE YOU HAVE A GOOD SUNDAY, TAKE YOUR REST, AND I HOPE IT WON’T BE TOO LONG BEFORE YOU SEE YOUR NIKKI……..LOVE AND HUGS…………….JENNIE POO XX

  14. It is distressing to hear that you are in such pain all the time… And yet I still hear the humor in your words. You will always be an inspiration to me. {{hugs}}

    • HI CHRIS…………HOW ARE THINGS? WE TOO HAVE THE REMNANTS OF THE HURRICANE, BLOWN THE LAST OF THE ROSES OFF THE TRELLIS. YES ITS BEEN LOVELY HERE TOO, BEEN SITTING OUT FOR COFFEE IN THE MORNINGS, WALKED DOWN TO THE PHARMACY TO COLLECT OUR FLU SHOTS, WHICH WE PUT IN THE FRIDGE TILL WE NEED THEM, YOU COULD FEEL IT IN THE AIR THEN.

    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Getting better, splint on wrist just part of the time and the hematoma is slowly shrinking. I am so happy for you that your daughter is spending time with you. The weather here in Houston has been perfect the last couple of days. My dog, Lady and I have been spending time outdoors. She is thoroughly sniffing every inch of her new yard. It’s pretty big for the city, but she misses the 5 acres she used to run in, as do I. My son and DIL are very good to me , but I have to admit I am homesick. Take care my friend and know that you are often in my thoughts and always in my prayers. Janet

      • JANET…….TAKE CARE OF THAT WRIST PET, HOW ARE YOU SETTLING IN? YOU GETTING USED TO YOUR NEW SURROUNDINGS? YOU ARE NEAR YOUR SON NOW, AND HOPEFULLY THAT WILL HELP WITH THE HOMESICKNESS. THINKING OF YOU…….LOVE JENNIE XX

      • Oh Janet:
I am praying for you my friend. That God will lessen your homesickness and give you peace and happiness where you are. I can imagine me moving back to the city….ugh. You hang in there, time will heal all wounds. Love to you
        Tonie

    Chris

  18. Hello everyone! Sue, loved the blog and love that you still have a sense of humor with all you’re going through! I do know how hard that is to do. Around here, we do use “CRACK DOWN”… as in “he thought he was going to do that, but I cracked down on him and stopped it.” Or, “the police are cracking down on drug dealers.” So, you can crack up or down, as you please, or even crack up. The Irish use “craic” meaning fun. “I went out with the girls and had a craic”. So, seems we can crack any which way!

My computer is in the hospital. I am on a very old laptop that is so slow, I can click on a program to open (or a web site), go to the bathroom, put on a pot of coffee, hobble back, and MAYBE the site or program has opened. And maybe it will run, and maybe it won’t. My son used this laptop for several years, so I have a half naked girl as a screen saver. She’s clad in leather and looks either scared or fierce, I’m not sure which. I tried to remove it, but that didn’t work either.

I called meals on wheels the first of the year and was put on a waiting list. I got a call from them yesterday. Guess this is the downside of being one of the “baby boomers”. WE’re all getting old at the same time. But I just can’t cook any more. My hands hurt so much, I can’t peel or chop, and I can’t stand long. Ed does well on the rotissarie (I know I slaughtered the spelling of that ) but he can’t stand very well now either. He is getting so feeble. I feel so bad for him, I watch him just wither away and know nothing to do about it. Trouble is, he has no interest in doing anything about it.

Tonie, have you got your letter from SS yet or your money? I hope so. It’s great your daughter is visiting, and I’m so proud she’s back to herself now! I know from personal experience what a relief that is. Hope everyone is healing better. You are all always in my prayers. Sue, my Sammy is a yorkie, too. She is so sweet. From the day we got her, she has wanted for her, Ed and me to all be joined at the hip! If we hug, she wants us to pick her up and let her be in the middle of it. When I had a stroke and fell, she tried to push me up. Poor sweetie, I told her she’d have to get a lot bigger to be able to do that.
Sue, giving backrubs used to be one of my favorite things in nursing. The patients enjoyed them so much and it was so good for them after spending so much time in bed. And, it gave a nice quiet time to get acquainted with my patients. I hated when that stopped. But, after a good bed bath, I always gave a backrub, even though there wasn’t really time to do it. I thought if a patient needed a bed bath, they needed the extra care for their skin and circulation.

I’m feeling fairly well, just tired. I still haven’t been back to the doctor for my follow up lab work. I know my iron isn’t low; when it gets low, I crave liver and other iron rich foods. My body always reacts to what I need. I will go this week, I took my humira shot today and it bled a LOT, so I think my coumadin dose needs adjusting again. It’s just a little subq shot, so it never bleeds.

I love all of you so very much and pray for you constantly. I appreciate the prayers from you all, too. I know there is power in prayer, I’ve seen in working. If I don’t mention you by name, please don’t take it as a slight, I don’t remember who said what by the time I get to reply. My DH says I have a blond moment with a silver moment, and make a hell of a mess. I wouldn’t admit it to him, but I think he may be right!

  19. Hey peeps ! It has been a long yet short week. (make sense?) Seems like one day has just run into another. I have gotten a lot done and have enjoyed spending time with my Nikki as well. She has been so happy to be home. Hopefully next year she and all the grands will be relocating somewhere nearby. Country life will be good for all of them.
I am trying my hand at cross stitch. This one is not so hard, it is a printed design, so easy to follow. I haven’t tried the counted one yet, so I will see about that. I have made so many hats, scarves and headbands, I needed a change for a bit. I am always doing something when relaxing, so I keep trying to expand my horizons “)
Sue, wondering how you are. Praying for you sweetie.
Chris, hoping you are feeling better today. Prayers for you all
    And love
    Tonie

    • TONIE…….OH MY GOODNESS! IF NIKKI CAN RELOCATE, HOW GOOD WILL THAT BE, I WILL HOPE AND PRAY THAT WILL HAPPEN, IT WILL BE ACE.
I WOULD LOVE TO DO SOMETHING LIKE CROSS STITCH, I HAD AN UNCLE WHO COULD LOOK AT A CHURCH/HOUSE, WHATEVER, AND RECREATE IT IN CROSS STITCH, HE WAS A CLEVER MAN, EX-ARMY, HIS MATES USED TO LAUGH, BUT THE LAUGH WAS ON THEM AS HE TOOK COMMISSIONS. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR STITCHING……..LOVE JENNIE POO XX

    • Tonie, I used to love counted cross stitch, but you need a steady hand and good eyesight. It also helps if you don’t have a cat in your lap. I am doing a pair of pillowcases of regular cross stitch, but it is very slow going. The design is a hummingbird in the midst of a patch of morning glories. Have fun with your new hobby. Love, Janet

      • Janet, I think the regular x stitch will be enough. I don’t think I can concentrate on the counted enough to do it 🙂 You pillowcase sound lovely. I have a white throw I want to stitch across the bottom. It is slow going. I think the bibs I am doing will go into a chest for another great grand 🙂
        Love ya

  20. Morning Peeps:
I have been under the weather for the past few days. First my jaw has been acting up then I had a flare up and felt like poop ! Feeling better today, but have to teach sunday school and have service tonight……so. I will be worn out.
Please pray for my kids. They had to come back up here to Va last night. THeir dad is in ICU at the VA hospital. His breathing was way off. His cancer is in the adrenal glands now, along with the lymph nodes. And an aggressive bladder cancer. SO I don’t think he will be here much longer. I know what they are going thru as do many of you. My dad went very quickly, thank God. I pray he gives his heart to the Lord before it is too late.
Well, more coffee and then to church. Jennie, hang in there girl. It will be wonderful if my kids can get out here nearer me. I will love it. As will they. Especially the younger ones. Linda, keep trying, you are showing up now 🙂 THe sun is out bright this morning. I think we are going to have an Indian SUmmer. So beautiful I hate to think of it gettig cold !

  24. Good morning all:
The kids both came by here for a bit last evening. It was the first time we had been together in 7 years or so. They stopped in for a quick shower , then back to the hospital to stay again. This morning they will be able to speak with his attending Dr and see what can be done (if anything) He seems to be better as long as he is on O2. It is just a question of time I believe. Nikki goes back on Tuesday am.
Well, I finally feel a bit better. Was having a flare up and ready for the ox cart !! So I will go and swim some this am, and pick up some chicken feed. It is supposed to be very warm and nice today, so maybe find something to do outside. Got the kids to take out the AC window unit so all is set for winter (except me).
I have been feeding the chicks and birds apple scraps from the apple butter making. I guess I will end up with sweet eggs (yuk !) Chickie Sue and Carol have had some scrappy looking feathers and I couldn’t figure out why ! Then I saw the el Rooster, aka Rufus have his way with them. Seems they are his fav girls and his spurs are stripping the feathers off their wings !! 🙂 I need to catch him and trip his spurs off.
Well, have a blessed day all. Jennie, hope you make it to the shore , I envy you. CHris, prayers for your dear dad.
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • Darned Rufus! While I’m happy you are getting to see your kids, I’m saddened by the reason. It would be a joy if your DD could find her way back closer to you. 🙂 Enjoy the warmer weather, Tonie! We had a nice weekend and it should be in the lower 70s tomorrow here.

    LOVE TO YOU ALL……………………..JENNIE XXXXX

    • Hi, Chris, Jennie, everyone. Well, another restless night down 2 or 3 hours of sleep due to who knows what and not being able to get comfortable in any position. Once up this morning, I started feeling a bit better only to go and bend down for something and do something to my left lower back. Ugh. And just before I had to load up 2 cats in the carrier to go to the Vet. Still nursing it with heating pad. Debating a muscle relaxer, but am supposed to teach a couple of lessons later and don’t want to be out of it since I haven’t taken one in a while. Lily and Aria received a clean bill of health and some shots and are recouping.

      • LYN…..SORRY YOU ARE LACKING SLEEP LOVE, ITS AWFUL WATCHING THE BLOOMING CLOCK GO ROUND, IT LEAVES YOU TOTALLY EXHAUSTED THE NEXT DAY…….A MUSCLE RELAXER SHOULD BE OK, MINE DON’T MAKE ME SLEEPY, I THINK YOU SHOULD BE OK….HOPE THE LITTLE ONES ARE OKAY….LOVE JENNIE X
