WINNING WISDOM…in a life of chronic pain.

Wisdom

Many emotions and lessons appear as we face a life of health challenges, but wisdom, that’s one that comes with great patience and learning. You have to find it as surely as you stumble onto a coin on the sidewalk. You can’t really seek wisdom because it has to find you. It comes out of experience and those experiences can be pretty gruesome. Anyone who has been presented with chronic pain can testify to that.

Many feelings come easily such as anger, frustration, self-pity and exhaustion. Wisdom is one you can’t dig to find and it isn’t always readily available. It is however, the one that brings peace to those of us who suffer. Strangely enough, wisdom often must be accompanied by humor as well as an altered sense of perspective. When we regain our sense of humor after initially losing it, then our hearts and minds are ready for wisdom. I realize they are an interesting pair but you will find them, invariably, together. When you and I regain the ability to laugh at ourselves, well, there it is; our viewpoint changes.

I’ve observed so many individuals who experience chronic pain and grow bitter. This includes me, of course. It is tragic to see because it not only makes the owner of the bitterness angry and remote because it builds a wall between them and others but it also cuts off all chance for emotional healing. No one knows for certain how it affects physical healing but many believe the more positive outlook brings about a more rapid recovery. Are cells, healing and pain affected by attitude? Yes, perhaps they are. I do know anger can certainly make the time crawl by more slowly and time, after all, is life. A crabby, unpleasant attitude makes the day seem a bit longer than a day of pleasurable activity. How does that work, I wonder?

It’s tragic how these individuals are kept from wisdom by bitterness. I find it intriguing they receive no comfort from their bitterness and seek escape from it and themselves through over medicating themselves, excessive drinking or just making life miserable for some other individuals. I suppose it’s natural for us to share our misery in an effort to gain sympathy but it only makes our misery greater. Strange how that works because giving it away to another only triples our own misery. It’s sort of like sharing messy, sticky hands. You only make the situation worse as you spread the odor, the sliminess and the misery.

It is a secret difficult to find how one avoids bitterness, anger and discovers that rare gift of wisdom. I do believe it begins with understanding and acceptance. All those questions that come to mind such as “Why?”, “Why me?” and “Why not them?” have to be tossed out of the conversation. There are no answers to those questions. No, you didn’t do anything to bring this about unless you did something obvious, but that’s not too likely. You are just there. It happened or was hidden in your DNA and that is that. It is the “now” you and I have to deal with and that’s the only answer to it. If you see someone you think is more deserving of this trouble, then you’re operating from a position of thinking all pain is punishment. What is this, an old Russian novel like Crime and Punishment? I don’t think that’s how it works. We also find longing for that which is lost is great for the grieving process as a necessary step but has its place. Longing, grief and regret all have their place and are great for a visit, but you don’t want to live there.

There are many other questions which offer hope, acceptance and eventually, wisdom. We can ask ourselves, “What can I do to feel better?”

“What is my role in my own life?”

“Where do I go from here?”

Lastly we can ask and answer, “Do I still have value?”

These answers are often direly complex but need to be well integrated into our personalities and individual situations. What works for me might not work for you and that’s where our own personal knowledge needs to meet the knowledge and information we receive from our health care providers. Some doctors are better than others on personal advice and guidance. Others are like dispensing machines where you put in your dollar and get your reward. I prefer the ones who care, who know what they’re talking about and follow through while treating you as a fellow individual human. There are others who are all technical knowledge and they serve their purpose although they aren’t as loveable.

Many of us who live with chronic disease and pain choose to have a primary care physician who co-ordinates all the specialists who are involved in our care. This is my personal approach and it works well, especially when the PCP has less ego and knows his or her own limits and isn’t afraid to transfer your care for various problems. Specialists are wonderful and necessary in today’s medical field but unfortunately or not, we are complex individuals who often need more than one specialist.

I find many of us often want the answers but don’t want to follow through on the solutions. It sort of tests our sincerity, does it not? There have been more times than I can count when I have had to kick myself in the tush to do some exercise, stretch or other activity. It’s a difficult position and can be quite humorous to watch but is hardly helpful unless I respond to that wee small voice inside which knows the truth and is too lazy or lackadaisical to follow through. That simple truth is that strength comes from activity. When we know what we need to do and don’t, we make it more difficult to complain, don’t we? I know from firsthand experience it can be difficult to get out of that groove, especially when we feel lousy. Sometimes, that position we’re in can begin to feel like home yet it is not and the view from there stinks.

Perhaps, winning wisdom begins when we ask ourselves and our physicians, “So what can I do to make myself feel better?” We might surprise a doctor or two in the process. I suspect they grow tired of always being expected to be magicians in our lives, don’t you?

We win wisdom when we take back our own lives and learn to live within the limits we have been given and do it with a grateful heart, an open mind and the desire to still be of use in this world.

  1. Well done sue that was great
I love the bit about passing on misery it’s like sticky hands and best to kind of just go along with no one knowing
You gotta trust who your miserable with!!
Yep,you are one wise girl there…..
    Chris

    • Chris, I’m sure you of all people realize how hard any and all wisdom is to find. It is hard won, is it not?
How is life with you? So much always going on with your various family members who face such immense challenges. Think of you often. Love, Sue

    • Chris, you know each time you speak of your Dad it takes me back to my own dear Dad and his final years. I still miss him terribly and it’s been a very long time. You’ve continued to have a time of it with him and I don’t believe you shall ever have any regrets for doing all you can. I know it’s painful to watch. Many years ago I worked for a doctor who was an ear, nose and throat man and his patients with Meniere’s suffered so much. I think most of us can only imagine that kind of feeling of dizziness and buzzing. It’s wonderful your DH has his photography to distract him. So, if your scope is still scheduled then you must still be coughing. Hope you get some good or should I say, helpful results. Love you, Sue

  2. Hmmmm, wisdom, yes, it’s true I think I am learning wisdom but not in the way I had hoped but in the way God sees fit. I suppose I had hoped I had gained all the wisdom I needed sometime ago but it seems I have some learnin left to do. Thanks to you I WILL do it with a smile, sometimes and I guess that’s a start. I still want to run away from home for just a little while. How about a Camp Sue for all of us who love you so much? We could get together for a week, have arts and crafts, dance naked around the fire, eat chocolate three times a day. What do ya think?

    • Oh Chris, you’ve been so long suffering and patient. Let’s all pray you get an answer that will bring you some relief. Sue

  3. Very good and thoughtful Sue. Wisdom is indeed hard won. And if you are hardheaded, well, my mother used to say “A hard head makes for a soft tailend” I think that was her version of “if you don’t listen you have to feel” (that may have been hers as well ) At any rate, I have had a lot of experience with it. Learning the hard way, that is. Although when you earn wisdom that way it tends to stick with you better.
Had a long day today and am FINALLY in the bed. It is almost 12. So sleep is just around the corner. Tomorrow is resting day, cause I have to go to the back Dr on Wed and have to be there at 9:20 which means I must leave here around 7 am
A few stores to visit while I am there. GOT to get some new bras. Getting desperate :). Have a good night dear friend. I hope this finds you feeling much better.
Chris , you and your family are in my prayers
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, bet with the time difference you have been and back from your doctor’s appt. Hope all went well and your shopping as well. Hope you’re home and napping about now.
We spent yesterday going to Portland, waiting to see two doctors and driving home. Got home close to eight last night and fell into bed, literally. Hardest day I’ve had in a long while. Glad I took my gelfoam cushion into each appt. Bother offices very busy. Will now start on another oral chemo drug and both the oncologist and the rheumy think I’m healing, although it is slow and driving me mad. I think we often have to count progress in tiny increments because that’s the way it often is.
Hope you arrive home having found the goods you needed and get some rest and the weather wasn’t too uncooperative for you. How’s that new truck? Warm seater felt good for me, too yesterday. Found out our seats in my new car also have air conditioning and the steering wheel has a warming component. So impressed with that car. Do take care, forgive my absence yesterday, please. Love you, Sue

  4. SUE…THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS…..RIGHT NOW I NEED WISDOM ON A HUGE SCALE, BOTH MY KIDS ARE IN TROUBLE, MY SON TIM IS FLOUNDERING WITH HIS JOB, AND DOESN’T KNOW HOW MUCH LONGER HE WILL BE ABLE TO STICK IT, AND MY DAUGHTER NIKKI, IS HAVING VIRTUALLY NO SLEEP BECAUSE OF HER BOYFRIENDS TINNITUS AND ANXIETY. THEY ASK ME “WHAT SHALL I DO MOM?” AND I AM STRUGGLING WITH ALL THEIR MANY PROBLEMS……ICAN’T GO TO THEM WHICH IS A THOUSAND TIMES WORSE…….SOMETIMES, I WANT TO SCREAM, BUT IT WON’T DO ANY GOOD, SO I TRY TO HELP AND ENCOURAGE, BUT ITS DRAINING ME….I SNAP AT MY LOVELY DH, AND I AM THAT SORRY FOR IT, IT MAKES ME CRY, AND I SEEM TO BE SPENDING A LOT OF TIME SAYING SORRY…….OH MY, WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO????
SORRY TO RANT ON, THIS BLOG INSPIRED ME TO TRY AND FIND SOME EXTRA WISDOM FROM SOMEWHERE…..LOVE YOU BIG………JENNIE…..PS. HOPE EVERYONE IS OK.

    • Oh poor Jennie, although you and I have discussed your kids on FB recently I am so sad to hear you still are having so much stress. In time I know Tim will work out his work difficulties and Nikki, well, poor love will eventually have to rest. Let us hope all the new measure with her boyfriend help his tinnitus. How maddening that can be.
You can only offer so much advice because they will do what they will do. Just being there, listening and loving them is what they need from you and I know they get that. You are their home base dear lady.
I know it’s painful when you feel like you’ve heart your DH. I have such a sharp tongue and a sensitive DH and know what that pain is like. He usually understands but we’ve had our moments, that’s for sure. It’s all part of the give and take of marriage I’m afraid. You are only human and can only take so much. Then the top blows, the cork flies and you feel release. He understands, I’m sure, if not right away then later.
I pray the blog inspired because that is my goal in pouring my heart out. We each seek wisdom because sometimes that’s the only positive we can bring from so much of our suffering, both emotional and physical. Must recover today from yesterday’s road trip and all that waiting. The oncologist tried to put me back on the Tamoxifen but he could tell I was having no part of that. He said, you don’t have much of a poker face, I could tell you didn’t like the idea. I asked him, well, would you after 6 weeks of 24/7 nausea and vomiting? He said, no, probably not. Will try a new drug. Back pain slow to heal but better. Love you much dear girl, Sue

  5. Jen
Your doing good and really well…DH will understand you know that
It’s good they come to you Jen and they probably feel better after speaking ,just you feel drained then!
    Always the way innit

    Chris

  6. Jennie, I would echo Chris. Your kids need to talk to someone and you’re it. They don’t expect you to fix their problems, just listen and offer some empathy and comfort, I’m sure. Snapping at your DH? Mine snapped at me last night. I know it wasn’t over the topic of discussion, but rather what he’s going through right now. I just took it for the team. I’m sure your DH will do the same. He probably knows it isn’t about him. Meanwhile, you need a way to de-stress and decompress. A relaxing bath, massage, quiet tea time, some relaxing music and a good book, whatever works for you. Hang in there! Wisdom hard earned from here.

    • Yes, Jennie I agree with the above. We are our kids sounding boards. They need to bounce stuff off us. And you know what ? If we told them what they should do …they wouldn’t do it. Hang in there
      Love ya

      • TONIE….THANKS, I AM HANGING IN THERE, NIKKI JUST EMAILED ME TO SAY SHE AND GAVIN HAD A BETTER NIGHT LAST NIGHT, THE TINNITUS WAS MORE BEARABLE FOR HIM, AND HE DIDN’T TAKE THE MEDS THE DOC GAVE HIM AS THEY SEEMED TO MAKE IT WORSE…….WILL WAIT AND SEE WHAT THE DOC SAYS, BUT I ADVISED HER TO MAKE SURE HE GOES TO THE AUDIO CLINIC……GLAD TO HEAR YOUR KNEE IS OK, LIKE WE SAY EACH TIME….DON’T OVERDO LOVE….PLEASE…..EXCITING FOR YOU HAVING YOUR 4 WHEEL DRIVE……HAPPY DAYS…LOVE YOU…JEN X

  7. Sue, another timely entry. Fortunately, or unfortunately, often wisdom is best learned through experience. And as Tonie has pointed out, many of us are rather hard-headed. Sorry, I read too late last night to intelligently comment. 🙂 Sadie is begging for a walk and after a day of sleet, snow and rain, we now have sunshine, so it is time. I’ll bundle up since it is a whopping 21*F right now, put her coat on her, but she won’t be fazed. She loves her walks – the longer the better. Today’s will not be a long one, however. She’ll still be appreciative.

    Take care, all!

    • Lyn, I know it’s hard on Sadie to miss her walk. Does she run around and play indoors to make up for it? Hope your weather is a bit more reasonable today. Yes, I hope that was the point I made that our experience breeds wisdom. WIsh it worked that way for everyone but it doesn’t.
We had sunshine on the way to Portland yesterday. Hardly recognized it. Stay warm dear girl and safe. Hope you’ve had a chance to rest up from the holidays. Love, Sue

    • LYN…….SADIE SOUNDS HAPPY TO WEAR A COAT…..IF ONLY SACHA WOULD BEHAVE WITH HIS…..THE FACE ON HIM WHEN HE HAS HIS RAINPROOF ON, HIS HEAD IS NEARLY DOWN IN THE ROAD, YOU WOULD THINK HE WAS ON DEATH ROW……………HE WALKS ALONG AT A SNAILS PACE, QUITE FUNNY REALLY WATCHING HIM FROM THE WINDOW………MAKE SURE YOU PUT PLENTY OF LAYERS ON WHEN YOU ARE OUT IN THOSE LOW TEMPERATURES WON’T YOU??………MUCH LOVE….JENNIE X

  8. Howdy ya’all !!
Hope this finds everyone warm and cozy in their home. I am exhausted from my day, but happy to be in my warm bed. Had to go to the Orthopod that takes care of my knee. He pronounced me fit enough to wait 4-6 months before my next visit. (unless something comes up) YEAH ! Shopped a bit, then came home. And worked some more. Cleaned out old frozen veggies from the big freezer and gave them to the chicks and the corn to the horse. All was happy 🙂
So nothing earth shattering to report other than I made it there and back. GOt to use my 4 wheel drive this morning to get out to the hwy. Exciting !!
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Glad your knee is doing better. Also pleased you like your 4 wh. drive. That’s good. No earth shattering news is kind of nice for each of us don’t you think? Take care. Hope your tummy is better. Love, Sue

  9. Sue:
It is somewhat. Not so much pain now, just the inside I have to be careful. Like this morning, it is not happy with coffee again. SIGH…just never know. Being lazy today, so tired from yesterday. But I must get up and get moving. Son is on his way up, going to see his dad and then over to see me. I have a lot of packed up crates I need him to put away for me, the deck is sitting full. So I must go to the bank (SS didn’t get my direct deposit this time) and to the trash dump, then pack a few more boxes for him to put away while he is here. IT is damp and soggy out there today. The ground was frozen when I went out to feed, but it will thaw out to mushy again. The little bit of snow we got yesterday just melted into mush. I would really be happy with no big accumulation of it this year.
Baby is happy with her hay and feed. The chickens are happy when I let them out of the pen in the evening. THe dogs are ALWAYS happy, so life is good.
Well, got to get up and at em. Brush and wash teeth and face, and get going.
Love ya, hope you are feeling better as well.
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Glad you are feeling better. The inside will feel better soon. As you always say, one day at a time! That was my motto when I was going through the cancer treatments. I have to remember that every day now. I try to not complain but sometimes I just need to tell someone how I am feeling. This blog and my friendships with all of you is a real blessing for me. It is a lot cheaper than going to emotional therapy too. Ha ha! It has been one of those days for me. This weather has caused me a lot of pain as well as all of you so why am I complaining. It just seems to be worse for me for some reason. I am so tired of all the medications I have to take and fix in my little boxes and then have to remember to take everyday. I take 15 in the am and 12 in the PM and my 2 different pain meds. Once a week my methotrexate shot and my 50,000 units of vitamin D. I wish I could stop a few but I know I can’t. I did stop my two antidepressants because I couldn’t function from being so tired and droggy all the time. I was reading the side effects from all my pills and almost everyone of them says it can cause dizziness or sleepiness. How can a person function like that. It almost like being a zombie. Then the two antidepressants on top of that and the pain meds. I have tried every combination of taking them and have had no success. I am going to get an appointment with my PCP doctor and I also have an appointment with a new pharmacy doctor on Saturday and maybe he can help me some.
My skin is so dry especially in the winter. My hands split open as well as my fingers. They hurt and bleed so bad. I can’t stand to put them in the water. I was on my Kindle Fire last night using my stylist to type and I looked and it had rubbed the cut spots open and they were bleeding every where. I had to stop and spend an hour cleaning them up and putting medicine and bandaids on them. Oh the joys of winter. My husband has been so sick with this new strain of flu that is going around. He finally went to the doctor and got 3 shots a breathing treatment and 3 scripts of the meds he got the shots for. Plus an inhaler. He was wheezing so bad. He is feeling better today. Praise God! One of my best friends here got it and was in the hospital for a week. She said the night they admitted her she had to stay in an observation room for 2 days before they found a room to put her in. Our hospitals here have all private rooms which is nice. They are asking people to please not come to the hospital. He and her both had flu shots as did I. It is that new strain that the flu shot isn’t covering but want people to still get one anyway if they haven’t had one. Well Tonie, I feel better just getting all this off of my shoulder. Sorry you were “it” today. Thank you very much.
I am not going to look through it for mistakes because if I do I might touch the wrong button and loose it all as I did earlier. If you find a mistake or anyone else reading this, sorry. I am sure you can figure it out.
Hi to all of my special friends. I have read your posts and I will be praying for all of you. God knows each. Of our problems and He will take care of each and everyone of us as He sees fit. I love all of you very much.
Sue, wonderful blog. It always is. Sorry for all my complaining. Things will get better for all of us they usually do don’t they? Love, Donna

      • Tonie, the line in the last post that said they are asking people to not come to the hospital, meant, don’t come if you are just visiting. Of course if you are sick and needing to see a doctor, then by all means come. They just don’t want people to come in and take germs out to spread it around. That is what I meant. Donna

  10. Hi folks
    Nothing to report…situation on going!
Very windy gives snow for our area next couple of days
    Everyone seems okish …good
    Chris

  11. Jennie, Chris and TOnie, sounds like you are each getting there before another ball drops. Oh this way of life. Jen, I pray the kids lives are working out toward a decision for Tim and health for Nikki’s friend. How frustrating for all of you. Love really connects us, doesn’t it?
Tonie, I hope your swim went well and you didn’t over do. Thinking of you. Chris, isn’t it nice to have nothing special to report? Donna, so good to hear you’re still hanging in there and Lyn, hope Sadie got her walk in today due to weather. Love to all, Sue P.S. Still recovering from a very long painful day on Tuesday. Grands coming over after school today. Rain on and off here, no snow.

    • Hey there !
The swim was fine, no pain. Made me very tired though. After a shower, had 3 stores to visit, pick up mail for Fran and then came home. A full day. I bought chicken that was on sale and some beef, vacuum sealed it, THEN I collapsed on the couch for the rest of the evening.
Chris, it has been rather warm here, hoping it will stay that way 🙂 I sure do hate winter time. I know it is needed, but it still is rough.
Sue, what did the Dr say ? Hoping you are still recovering and feeling better.
      Love to all
      Tonie

      • Tonie, I agree with Lyn that your new haircut and pic on FB is very nice. You look thinner…not that you are fat, just thinner and maybe the new do has something to do with that.
In answer to your question I saw two doctor’s. The rheumy is moving and I’ll have a new place in Portland to visit when I see her. She thinks the back will take 6 mos. to a year and to get out and walk when the weather allows to regain some strength. She asked me about moving to a one story house…out of the question. She always asks about the blog and the cancer. Great and bright young woman. Oncologist will start me on a new drug when it arrives so we will see.
Glad you got to swim and are gaining strength. Patience is called for, I know. Tired tonight so will close. Hope all are well at home. Love, Sue

  12. Well sue I hope the revovery comes up pretty soon and you enjoyed the grands over today.I bet they were looking forward to it
Weather here is very cold and looks to get colder in the week.
My dad got told by the warden today that someone complained about him with his scooter in the place he lives…I’ve got to now get his ins Certs.scooter servicing papers and elec charger test ceRTS. ..to show her ..oh joy and trying to wind down for the endo on Wednesday….DH has to go for another blood test they contaminated this one…so that’s another blimmin job we thought was out of the way
That’s the way it goes..think your all sorted then WHAM!
My dad says he was comming in the door and she said you come first then she went to move thru the door as he was…..oh dear….the warden actually rang me to tell me..I thought something was really wrong..the warden didn’t see it but said this lady was going to take advice….don’t no what about as she said she wasn’t hurt..but she had to move quick out of the way
So he’ll just have to go slow….this lady is new there and she mite be a complainer, but whatever he needs to watch it
Well hope all gave a decent weekend
    Chris
AND. I’m out for breakfast tomorrow…! Back to normal……well…..?!

    • Chris, your final sentence begs the question…what is normal? I am sorry you are inconvenienced by contaminated labs and have to redo it on DH. Sounds like your Dad has a grouchy neighbor. What is her problem if she wasn’t hurt? I’m sorry it is something else for you to get a headache over dear friend. Hope you’re getting a trip out now and then and visiting some charming spots. Thinking of you. Love, Sue

  13. Hi, everyone! Sorry, I haven’t been by lately. It’s been a busy few days, but yes, Sue, weather permitting Sadie has gotten her walks. Some shorter, some longer. I’ve been resting when I can. Actually, I’ve been feeling relatively decent lately, except later during walks or when overdoing it a bit, so that’s been nice. My back has been behaving better so I’ve started with some selected yoga poses, or asanas. I really think the right ones will be helpful. If it flares up again, I’ll stave off for a while. We are expecting rain tomorrow – 100% chance according to one weather channel. Maybe snow Wednesday. We’ll see about that, too far off yet. I guess tomorrow will be an inside day, unless I decide to ride along with my Mom to see my Grandmother. She’s amazing. Early 90s and still living on her own, and driving. Dropping off fast. I guess my day is catching up with me. I’d better be signing off. Oh, Tonie, I like your new look, btw. 😉 Feels good to get a new ‘do doesn’t it? You deserve it. Enjoy!
    Take care, all!

    • Lyn, Always good to hear from and about you. I love the way you are so consistent in your walking of dear Sadie. I think the truth is I’m jealous. We live on a hill and the whole town is difficult walking. I am also less steady on my feet due to many factors and age. See..jealous. Sadie is so adorable and I love how she has expanded your lives when they were already quite full. Hope the kids are doing well.
More rain here and fierce winds shaking the house last night. Scary.
My DD has used yoga for years and has found it very helpful. George, our Yorkie, does a perfect downward facing dog with his little furry tush in the air…so cute. Didn’t learn it from me.
Hope you get your quiet day at home. Do take care. Love you, Sue

  14. HELLO….JUST CHECKING IN….BEEN AWHILE I KNOW, HAD SOME BAD ATTACKS OF THE EYE PAIN, AND STILL A MONTH TILL I SEE THE SPECIALIST……MASSIVE MIGRAINE TODAY, SO KEEPING IT SHORT, JUST WANTED TO WISH EVERYONE MUCH LOVE AND PRAYERS…SNOWING THICK AND FAST HERE, DIDN’T SEE THAT COMING, IT WAS TO SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN.
HOPE YOU ARE ALL ALRIGHT, AND NONE OF YOU ARE SNOWED IN….THINK WE WILL BE FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS….HOPE IT CLEARS BEFORE SUNDAY SO WE CAN MAKE THE TWO HOUR TRIP TO THE AIRPORT TO PICK UP MY SON TIM WHO IS COMING FOR A QUICK 48 AS USUAL.
NIKKI’S BOYFRIEND HAS IMPROVED A BIT, SHE IS PUTTING HIM ON ST JOHN’S WORT, AND HOPING FOR THE BEST, CAN’T DO ANY HARM USED CORRECTLY…..OK NEED TO REST AND TAKE SOME MORE MEDS FOR THIS HEAD OF MINE….BE IN TOUCH….LOVE AND HUGS….JENNIE XX

    • Jennie, just saw your snowman on FB. Looks mighty cold over there; unexpected is not always good. Hope you have supplies and can be isolated. Knowing you you are baking for son’s visit despite migraine. Hope and do pray you feel much better by the time he arrives…safely and that the snow leaves or melts by then.
I’m relieved to hear Nikki’s boyfriend is feeling better. I do know that particular herb needs to be watched with blood pressure meds but many use it. Hope he gets relief. That will help Nikki so much, also.
I am sorry to hear you are having such bad headaches and that eye pain is back with a vengeance. Suffering has become such a part of our daily lives, sometimes we don’t share just out of boredom, at least I know that’s what I do. One can so easily grow tired of yourself, huh? Spring, your doctor’s visit and your gorgeous garden are just around the corner. Thinking of you with love and concern. Sue

      • SUE……MY SNOWMAN IS A FUNNY LITTLE GUY HUH? IT HELPED MY MIGRAINE GOING OUT TO THE GARDEN TO MAKE HIM, JUST FELT LIKE BEING A KID AGAIN, WORRY ABOUT THE PAIN LATER. THE SNOW IS THAWING NOW, AND HIS NOSE DROPPED OFF, EITHER THAT OR SACHA ATE IT, HE WILL EAT ANYTHING IF ITS NOT NAILED DOWN. (IT WAS A CARROT BY THE WAY), COME TO THINK OF IT, I THINK HE ATE THE EYES TOO, AS HE LOVES WALNUTS, GREEDY LITTLE SOD.
I AM CHEATING WITH THE BAKING SUE, USING BETTY CROCKER, HE WON’T NOTICE, I’LL JAZZ UP THE CUPCAKES AND HE WILL THINK “MOM’S STILL GOT IT”.
I AM LIVING WITH THE EYE PAIN AS I DON’T HAVE A CHOICE, BUT I DREAD WAKING UP IN CASE THIS IS “THE DAY” WHEN AN ATTACK COMES….AH WELL GOT TO COPE, HAVEN’T WE? HOW ARE YOU DOING DEAR LADY, THINGS STILL PROGRESSING IN A GOOD WAY? LET ME KNOW WON’T YOU….I LOVE YOU….JEN XX

    • Jennie:
Tell Nikki to try Melatonin. It is not something that needs to be monitored as it is a naturally occurring product of our body. I take it every night and it really helps me.
      Love ya
Prayers for all that pain AND the snow. Be safe !
      Tonie

      • TONIE….THANKS FOR THAT LOVE, I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT, BLESS YOU, I DO ALL I CAN TO HELP, SO THIS WILL GO DOWN WELL WITH NIKKI….NEVER HEARD OF A FITBIT, SOUNDS GREAT, SEEMS TO DO A LOT FOR YOU. HOW IS THE “BABE” BET SHE GETS HUNGRY IN THE COLD WEATHER, I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HER PROGRESS ON F/B……..LOVE YA……..JENNIE XXXX

  15. Sue, thanks again for another great blog!
I finally seem to be over the flu but feel a cold coming on! My neck pain has continued and has been more severe and constant since New Years Day when I awoke with numbness and tingling down both arms and into my hands, so I have been forced to take life easy. Late tomorrow evening I have the MRI of my cervical spine so I will soon know the results, and what can be done. I have been told the test will take twenty minutes so I pray I can keep my claustrophobia under control for such a short time! These past few weeks have been very difficult for me and of course there is the worry of what lies ahead, but one day at a time, right?
. Love and prayers ~ PM Brenda

    • PM Brenda, good to hear from you dear lady. So glad your MRI is coming up tomorrow. You can handle it, I know you can. You know what I do is close my eyes and pray for all of you, slowly, systematically and in soft spoken words. The time passes quickly and your thoughts are on other folks. Try it sweet lady. Glad your flu has gone and hope a fresh cold isn’t on the way. It may just be the end of your flu. Thinking of you tomorrow and always. Love you much, Sue P.S. Glad you liked the blog. I don’t think some did.

  16. Brenda
Yea do what sue says to do…I shall do the same for my endo Wednesday

Sue…where do you get that thought from……..? What makes you think that….it was so clever.we all seem to enjoy it ….iive reread it twice during the time it’s been up
Hope you are still improving .
We have been to shed …will tell more later but gotta get up to go out

    Chris

    • CHRIS……THINKING OF YOU FOR YOUR ENDO ON WEDNESDAY LOVE, CHIN UP, IT WILL BE OK, I WILL BE UP FOR A REPORT WHEN AND IF. HOW DID IT GO AT THE SHED AND DID YOU HAVE SNOW, THERE OR AT HOME, WE HAD LOADS, NEVER EXPECTED IT….NO WARNING……HOPE YOU HAD A GOOD WEEKEND, TRY NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THINGS……MUCH LOVE….JEN X

  17. Hey all:
Well, got the old doggie wake up call at 4:30 and can’t seem to settle back down. They sure are !! Little rats !
This FITBIT that I got for Christmas is really cool. It keeps track of your sleep cycles. It tells me how many times I am awake and for how long, and also even if I am restless. So I can really give my Rheumy an update of my sleeping habits this time. It has really helped me logging my food intake, exercise etc, and seeing all the progress. So hopefully the weight loss will continue.
Well very tired, so I will see if I can nod off some more. Love to you all.
    Tonie

    • Tonie, maybe you ought to give the pups some melatonin. I know how tiring that loss of sleep can make one. I had one of those nights thanks to IBS and also George. Jim had today off for the holiday but George doesn’t know from that so he wanted to be fed at his usual 4:30. Jim slept right through his whining so I got up and gave him some treats to tide him over. Of course, Jim is now at the jail because those felons need their meds.
Glad you’re getting so much use out of your Fitbit. Good luck with the losing weight. Are you going on the SHaklee liquid? Pleased you’re having milder weather. Spring is coming soon. Love you, Sue

      • Sue:
Yes, using my Shaklee 180 shakes, along with other good foods. But I am finding if I do it in moderation I can still have a treat or two. I just log all my food in, counting calories not fat, etc. This log has all sorts of food you eat already in there with all the nutrition and you can add your own (like Shaklee). I have Vanilla, Chocolate and Mango shakes. I add juices, fruit and peanut butter to them. Very filling and so good for me as well. Inches count !!
I was so tired last night even though I didn’t do much yesterday. I now have to get going and get some things done. It was so nice yesterday it was like March weather. I had the doors open and kitchen window as well. The grass is starting to grow. My garlic bed I planted last fall is coming up nicely. I will have fresh garlic this summer for my salsa. I need to get seedlings started from these heirloom seeds my son gave me.
Lord willing, I am flying out to see the kids in Feb. I have decided it will be better (and cheaper) if I fly. That long drive alone would not be good for me in the shape I am in now. Driving a couple of hours wears me out. SO I found a flight out and back for a couple hundred bucks. Throw in a rental car and I have a cheaper trip.
Yes Jennie, Baby is waiting on me when I get up to come and feed her. I took some pics the other day with my cell, but it won’t let me load to facebook for some reason. I will figure this thing out one day 🙂
        Talk to ya’all later.
        Love
        Tonie

  18. Well Im back
Went to shed sunday to take our garden table.it was so long had to sit in the back of car. it was lovely when we got there.stopped for a scone and tea in teashop on way.then it was warm on the decking so we put table together.then Altho it was only 2c it was so warm ,the sun was shining on us ,so we sat outside for a bit..wouldn’t believe the temp was low
Then had a snack at a place we go to ,then came home….and ..it gives it the same tomoro…so guess what …we are taking the rest of the chairs over in the car
It gives it -2c till 11am. But it gives it all sunny and no wind. We will have coffee out and a bite to eat
That will take my mind of the endo for wed.rather than stay at home
ANd on wed. It gives snow all the previous nite and all wedBut we’ve only got 3 mile to travel,so not too bad
    Jen
Hope the head pain is better
    Chris

    • Chris, it is nice to hear you so excited by the trips to the coast. SOunds like you long for spring and now that you have such a wonderful, fun place to go…all the better. We had plain spaghetti with olive oil, butter and parmesan last night and I thought of you…oh and I added some mushrooms. So good and filling without causing harm.
My dear they will probably put you out for the scope or mute it in some way. Hang in there and just look froward to the answers you will receive, okay? Thinking of you for it. Regards to DH. Love you, Sue

  19. Wow, it’s been busy here. Jennie, so sorry you’ve been hit with migraine during your son’s visit. You’re probably past it now. I sure hope so! Brenda, I’ll be thinking about you! You can do it! 🙂 Chris, glad you had a good excursion to the shed. Scones and tea – sounds wonderful. I sure enjoyed scones way back when, when I was lucky enough to visit Scotland and England. 🙂 Tonie, I had a Fitbit like device, but just sent it back today. It wasn’t as accurate as I’d like. I looked at one of the newer of the Fitbit series, but didn’t want to spend that right now, so settled on a less expensive tri-axis pedometer. We’ll see how that goes. Maybe save up for the more expensive one I was looking at. Meanwhile, I have some other expenses coming up, so there is where my attention – and funds – must go. At least I can keep track of steps, etc. That will keep me moving! I tend to be rather competitive with myself. Yes, Sue, now that we have Sadie, I feel very guilty if I don’t walk her. It is good for me – and her. BUT it is also pretty flat where we live so I don’t have to deal with the hills you do. That makes a BIG difference as does not having quite as many issues as you face. 😉 Sadie and Lily were actually playing today. It was so funny. Unfortunately for Sadie, she doesn’t know when to quit and pushes the limit. Rufus dragged a cat toy to the steps and knocked it down and then all 3 were playing with the cat toy Oh my. They were something. Well, I have a student coming soon. Take care one and all!

    • Lyn, love to hear about the pup playing with the kitties. So cute how they’re all bonding these days. Sounds like Sadie won’t take no for an answer. I can imagine it was very enjoyable to watch them frolic.
Good to have goals for each of us to live up to. So easy to slip up and lie to one’s self but then I’m reminded we are the only ones who can be in charge for our own good health. Do stay warm and take care, Love you, Sue

    • LYN……MY SON HASN’T ARRIVED YET, SO HOPEFULLY HEADACHES WILL STAY AWAY FOR AWHILE, OR AT LEAST TILL HE HAS GONE…..THIS SUNDAY TO WEDNESDAY. SOUNDS LIKE YOUR PETS ARE A LOT OF FUN…KEEP WELL LOVE, AND KEEP WALKING……BUT SLOWLY……MUCH LOVE….JENNIE X

  20. Jennie, yes, I adored your snowman. He reminded me of the little guy from frozen in his imperfection. Sounds like Sacha had a snack for the day and so healthy, too. The thing I liked the most about him was knowing you helped to build him. Good to get out, huh? I need to do that more. I’ve become a bit of a recluse these last few months I’m afraid and must get back my life with this slow healing. I haven’t even been driving, shame on me.
There’s nothing wrong with Betty Crocker. I plan to attempt a lemon jello cake for Jim’s birthday tomorrow. The kids are all coming over for pizza. I can’t think of a thing he needs so probably won’t give him anything. He says he doesn’t care and if I had a good idea it would be different. I still pray the weather will allow Tim to get there safely. Hoping for the best and know it will work out. He needs to chat with his Mum.
You asked how I am and it’s slowly improving. I want fast and don’t seem to get it. Trying to do my share and go up and down those stairs more often. Having a bad time with IBS lately. Think all that chemo got it going and other causes. We’ve had fog but no snow. Hope you’re okay dear girl. Love you, Sue

    • HI SUE……GLAD YOU ARE STILL MAKING INROADS TOWARDS YOUR RECOVERY, I AM NOTICING, THE LIST OF THINGS YOU ARE BEGINNING TO DO IS SLOWLY ADDING UP….GREAT STUFF….MY LITTLE SNOWMAN IS STILL AROUND, GETTING SMALLER THOUGH….HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JIM, SORRY ITS LATE, BUT I HOPE HE ENJOYED IT…THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONCERN REGARDING TIM, I HAVE TO CONFESS I AM EXTREMELY WORRIED ABOUT THE TRAVELLING, LOTS OF ICE ON THE ROAD STILL, ITS THE LITTLE ROADS THAT ARE THE PROBLEM……..TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS…..LOVE YOU,,,,JEN XX

      • Jennie, I pray for traveling safety for Tim’s visit. Ice can be scary so let’s all trust it will warm up over there. Sorry but that will melt the snowman, huh? Know the visit will go well once you have him safely there. His life will fall into place as it should when he’s had talks with you and time to think.
Yes, I think my recovery from so much is slowly edging along. Current sore throat but no big deal compared to all the rest. Life is so relative, you know? Love to you as you prepare. Hope the eye is not too bad right now and the headache stays away. Love, Sue

  21. Hi everybody, I have been reading all your posts but I am sorry. I am having a hard time staying awake. It has been bothering me a lot lately. I met with a new pharmacist on Saturday to go over my meds with him and about changing my scripts to their pharmacy. He was so awesome and very understanding of my problems. I had already figured some of the problems out but almost all of my prescription drugs make me sleepy or dizzy. We went over each one and tried to decide what to do about it. I am going to see if my doctor will put me back on an antidepressant I took several years ago. It is now generic and cheaper. It is also less sedating now on a lower dose than the higher dose one I am taking now but works just as good. Lexapro is the one I use to take and I did great on it. The one I have been taking is citalapram and it puts me right to sleep. My ativan can be cut in half and if I need to can take the other half later. There are a lot more we are going to try and work with the doctor about. He, the pharmacist, said I needed to be on some B vitamins so He gave me a bottle. He said a shot once a week would be better and if my doctor did not want to do it if she would just write me a script he would do it. He basically said I am being overdosed with all my medications that cause drowsiness. He explained that as we get older our liver can’t handle the higher dose meds and doctors don’t go back and lower the doses after a certain time. So I am excited to see if these changes are going to make an improvement. He is switching all my medications from my drug store to his today so He can keep a watch on me. I feel so much better. When I was getting ready to leave he asked me if he could pray for me and I said of course. He took my hands and prayed for me. What a blessing! I am going to stop writing for now before I dose off. I will be praying for all of you. I will write more later. LOVE to all of you. May God meet all your needs and be with you during your tests. Donna

    • Donna, that sounds excellent. Don’t want you sleeping through life. Your new pharmacist sounds like a jewel of a guy. Hope it all works out eventually. Hope your doctor is receptive. Love, Sue

    • Donna:
I would like to recommend some good vitamins for you. Shaklee brand are wonderful. All natural and made from real foods, not stuff that is made in a lab. I take the Gold for over 50 with Vit K added. I also take their Calcium. It has Vit D and Mag as well. Anyhow Msg me on FB if you want more info.
      Tonie

    • DONNA, YOUR PHARMACIST SOUNDS LIKE MY DOCTOR, THEY DON’T COME ALONG TOO OFTEN LIKE THAT DO THEY LOVE? HOPE IT ALL GET SORTED FOR YOU, AND MAYBE YOU WILL SOON BE FEELING A BIT BETTER,,,,,I HOPE SO…….MUCH LOVE….JENNIE XX

  22. Good morning all:
Hope this finds you all rested and happy. It was a busy day for me yesterday and I felt it last night. Still trying to get my strength back. I can do more than I could but still dragging after. I have a problem stopping to rest. SOmetimes I can do it, but others…well I know if I stop it will be for good. Like yesterday, I was packing up things in the bedroom I don’t need right at hand, I had stuff scattered everywhere and I knew if I stopped I wouldn’t finish, so I pushed through. So now at least I can see the floor 🙂 I ordered a shelving unit that I can use to store things I will need to put my hands on first. At least that will help me organize what I am storing. I write on the sides what is in the crate, but still have to go thru them to find what I need. We accumulate so many things don’t we ?
It is supposed to be 50 degrees today. It was so yummy yesterday. But I hear we are having another artic blast hitting us next week. I am not looking forward to that.
Lyn, your Sadie keeps you moving don’t she ? Animals are good for that. I can’t wait til I can ride again.
Chris, so glad you got to enjoy the shore again. THe sun makes all the difference doesn’t it ? THat and when the wind is not so chill.
Jennie, I am so glad you are getting to see your son soon. Hang in there and try not to stress. You know stress make you ill (all of us) so keep it a minimum !! 🙂
Sue glad to see you are still improving. Happy Birthday to Big Jim !! Tell him we all love him on here as well. Of course we know he will not be slowing down any 🙂 God forbid !! Hope you had a good celebration. I love pizza, but being alone, it is not feasible for me to get one. Plus I am very picky about what is on it. SO I have found that Jenno;s Pizza Rolls are my answer. I eat the serving size of 6 and I am content with it.
ALl the rest of you, be good to you. Janet, we miss seeing your comments , hope all is well with you and you are just TOO busy to be on here.
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • Dear Tonie have finally gotten back to the gym.. It’s a 20 minute walk with my rolllator. With walking 40 minutes and a 45 minute class I am completely worn out. I also go to my son’s softball games. The seniior league he plays in plays all year round. I read everything on here, but writing is difficult. I want all to know that I think of you all everyday and pray that your lives will be easier. Lots of love and hugs all around. Janet

      • Janet, don’t you find sometimes it takes awhile for getting in shape to kick in before it kills you? I know it’s worth it but I often have to keep telling myself that. Pushing it can be good but painful. Take care and be good to yourself. All that walking really impresses me dear friend. Love, Sue

      • WOW JANET….GO GIRL, WORN OUT YOU MIGHT BE, BUT WHAT AN EFFORT YOU HAVE MADE….SO PROUD OF YOU, WELL DONE….HOW IS THE NEW HOUSE NOW, FEELING MORE LIKE HOME?? XXXXjENNIE XX

    • Tonie, Sorry I was a bit overwhelmed yesterday. For my current state I did quite a bit. Made a cake and a batch of chicken and black bean soup. Then the kids came over for take out pizza and curly fries. Beth brought along some Cheesecake Factory cheesecake she’d frozen over Christmas for those who didn’t want lemon jello cake. Long day and I’m coming down with a sore throat. Jim had it after Christmas and now grands and me. Yes, we did have a nice evening with Jim for his birthday…old fart that he is. He even took yesterday off from work. Surprised the heck out of me.
I’m so excited about your trip in Feb. to see the family in AZ. I know how very excited you must be to see them and see how all the kids have grown. I agree a flight sounds a lot easier on the old body than that long drive. Will Judy watch the animal farm for you, and the pups? Excited. Sounds like you are pushing yourself to be ready but do take it easy. It will come in time…that’s my mantra these days. Much love, Sue

      • Sue:
I have to work out something with the dogs. I had thought I could leave them with my son, but he thinks it will upset his dear wife so ….no, I am asking my nephew next, if that doesn’t then I will see if Judy will watch them 3 days, then my brother 3 days. He (my brother ) is going to feed for me. He likes that, he gets free eggs 🙂
Glad you had a good time with the fam yesterday. Wow !! Jim took a day off ??? TWO in a week ?? What is the world coming to ??
        Take care.
        Love
        Tonie

      • SUE…..SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE BEEN BUSY TOO, LIKE THE SOUND OF THE CHICKEN AND BLACK BEAN SOUP, CAN I COME AND LIVE AT YOUR HOUSE?? I HOPE THE SORE THROAT DOESN’T COME TO MUCH, ITS ALL THAT HOLLERING AT JIM’S BIRTHDAY PARTY THAT’S DONE IT……OLD FART INDEED, I’LL TELL HIM YOU SAID THAT.
FANCY THAT HE TOOK A DAY OFF, HE MORE THAN EARNS IT I KNOW…….LOOK AFTER THAT THROAT LOVELY, AND THE REST OF YOU……LOVE YOU BIG…JEN XX

    • TONIE…..I CAN’T SEE YOU SLOWING DOWN, I LOVED THE PHOTOS YOU PUT UP OF YOU AND BABY, SHE LOOKS GREAT AND SO HEALTHY AND ITS ALL DOWN TO YOU……I HOPE YOU MAKE IT TO AZ TO SEE YOUR FAMILY, AND THE DOGGIE ARRANGEMENTS WORK OUT AS YOU HOPE……WHEN DID YOU SAY YOU WERE GOING?…….WE TOO ARE HAVING A CLIMATE LIKE YOURS, NEVER KNOW WHAT TO PUT ON TO BE COMFY.
KEEP WELL MY FRIEND….LOVE YOU…………JENNIE XX

      • Going out the 9th of Feb Jennie. Just for the week. Not having any luck with care of the boys, so may have to kennel them for the week, I hate to. But …..

    Jen
    Cold with you? Freezing here
    Back later Chris

    • Chris, darn it. After all of that and the machine wasn’t working? Then to read about your Dad falling. I am so sorry dear girl but relieved that he wasn’t harmed seriously. It must be so difficult because now you will worry even more than you already do. Thank goodness the ambulance came and evaluated him. I do have to say your lunch sounds wonderful, however. That’s one little bright spot for you. Hope you’re sleeping better these days and the gut is behaving. Love you, Sue

  24. Well there’s more
My dad has run out of incontinence pants.i asked him last week how they were going and he had loads,so got a delivery of 3mths supply for next thurs…but he’d run out sooner as he used more so went to buy some to last till then…got to his place and he’d fallen over on the floor..so called amb.paramedics come and checked there for an hour and he was ok so didn’t go to Hosp.
He seems ok..dD and GS coming over tomoro he is 18..hope all goes ok
    What a blimmin day..
    Packing it in now
    Chris

    • CHRIS….WHAT A MESS, ITS HAPPENED TO ME ONCE OVER HERE, BUT THEY JUST GOT ME TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL, BUT ITS AWFUL WHEN YOU GET ALL GEARED UP IN YOUR HEAD. SO SORRY TOHEAR ABOUT DAD, I AM GLAD IT WASN’T TOO SERIOUS….HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR GS, ARE YOU DOING ANYTHING SPECIAL? DON’T LET ALL THE THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED SPOIL YOUR TIME WITH HIM…TALK SOON ….LOVE JEN X

  25. Chris, oh my goodness! I certainly hope you are able to get all testing, etc. accomplished next Monday! So sorry to hear about your dad’s fall.

Sue, please wish Jim a belated happy birthday for me. Yes, Sue and Tonie, Sadie does keep me hopping! I was actually looking forward to a walk with her today – in the snow. But it didn’t really start until after I wanted to be done, so we walked in flurries rather than snow. She did, of course, run around in it later. We ended up with 3″. Very manageable, but still slick! We took DH’s Civic to go pick up my car (was getting snow tires put on – hey it came with snows AND all seasons, so I’m using the snows!) His car was slip sliding away. My car with snow tires and all wheel drive felt like a completely different animal. I’ll take my car over his in snow any day!
Sue, you are able to do and are doing so much more now, even though it probably doesn’t feel like it at times. Slow and steady wins the race. 😉

Janet, good for you! You are really getting your exercise in. Hey, we have to move it or lose it, don’t we?

Tonie, look at you and your responsible and healthy weight loss plan. 😉 Good for you!

Jennie, hoping you have a safe trip to meet your son and a wonderful visit with him. 🙂

    • Lyn, Three inches sounds like plenty. I agree, it certainly is important to feel safe when driving. We’ve had such a mild winter this year, haven’t had to think about snow tires with my all wheel drive. Safety first…always. That Sadie is such a sweetheart. She seems to always be full of bountiful energy. Could you bottle it???
Yes, I think I am gradually doing more but it’s harder to see from the inside out. You sound more rested as well. Love, Sue

      • Sue, I wish I could bottle some of Sadie’s energy! I’d like a little myself. Thankfully, I have had more of my own lately. I never used snow tires with my all wheel drive before, but since snow tires came along with the car, why not? One of my guys thought also since this car is lighter it wouldn’t be a bad idea. Once these wear out maybe I’ll try sticking with the all seasons, we’ll see. I suppose I should head off to bed soon. I have an appointment at 8:30 tomorrow morning for some kind of eye test. I forget what it is, but I’ve not had it before. Lately I’ve not been able to get moving for Sadie’s walk until 10:30 or 11. This could be rough. I have a hair appointment later, so at least I’ll get a little pampering for m trouble. 😉 Rest well.

    • LYN ….LOVED THE LITTLE VIDEO YOU PUT ON F/B OF SADIE RUNNING IN THE SNOW, SHE IS SWEET.BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU ARE OUT DRIVING WON’T YOU LOVE!!
THE WEATHER HERE IS LOOKING MORE HOPEFUL FOR THE AIRPORT RUN,TO PICK UP TIM, BUT NOT SO MUCH TAKING HIM BACK, THE OUTLOOK IS FOR MORE SNOW…….HMMMM!!!! TAKE CARE…..LOVE JENNIE XX

  26. Lyn, you can also put a couple of cinder blocks or something heavy in the trunk. IT always helps the traction to weigh it down some. We are getting it tomorrow, so don’t send too much okay ?? My truck has good all weather tires one it and the 4 wheel drive is the bomb. I haven’t yet made it to put the tires on my Jeep yet. She has just street tires that are not good out here. I need some mud grips as we call em !
    Take care and be careful
    Love
    Tonie

  27. Jennie, Glad to hear the way to the airport is melting. Prayers for the trip back in a few days. Maybe he’ll have to stay longer? Good excuse. Hope you stay as well as possible for his visit. Yes, the old fart had a good birthday just being with family. Just a virus for me. Seems like nothing compared to all the other stuff of recent months. Love you and hope for a wonderful visit with Tim, Sue

    • SUE…..JUST LOOKED AT METEO FRANCE AGAIN…..ITS NOT LOOKING GOOD ANYMORE….MORE BAD WEATHER ON THE WAY…..WORRIED NOW, GLAD THE BIRTHDAY BOY ENJOYED HIMSELF….KEEP WELL, LOVE YOU….JENNIE XX

      • Jennie, if the weather is looking that formidable will Tim come at all? I know you’ll be disappointed but better safe for all of you. Keep us informed, okay? Love you much, Sue

  28. Chris:
Glad all is going well for your endo sooner. We will pray for you !

My kids Dad passed away this morning from complications of the cancer. Pray for them that they have peace with it. No funeral, DS is waiting until my daughter is here then they will do whatever with his ashes.
    Love to you all
Been a very long busy day
    Tonie

  29. Lyn, Don’t you just hate those early morning appts.? I avoid them whenever possible. I have a feeling each of us would agree about the slow moving in the mornings. Hope your weather cooperates as well as your body. Love, Sue

  30. Tonie, saw on FB about your ex passing away and will be thinking of your two children/adults now. I know this will probably stir up some old memories and some old relatives. You’re in my prayers dear friend. Love, Sue

  31. Chris, good news! Be thinking of you tomorrow.

Jennie, Good news for the pick up, maybe the forecast will change for the return?? If not, maybe he can stay a bit longer. 🙂

Tonie, I’ve already responded on fb, but I was thinking what Sue was also, memories… along with some unexpected emotions surfacing. Could happen. Prayers will continue.

Well, Sue, I was awake bright and early and got moving ok. Still not my favorite. The roads were fine. It started snowing lightly, which was unexpected, so Sadie and I took advantage and went over to the trail to walk in the snow while it was snowing. She loved it! Although she probably wished we’d walked longer. I did have another appointment to get to and some lunch to eat, though. Sadie ran around the back yard with a toy in her mouth while I ate my lunch. Yes, oh, to have a little of her energy…

    • Lyn, what a lovely mental picture you paint of walking during a softly falling snow with dear Sadie. Some walk, even a short one is better than none. I am a bit jealous of your walking so securely and in such a lovely setting. I must get back to some walking down by the Columbia River for my overall health as well as my bone health. Glad you made it out this morning so early. Funny isn’t it how the day seems longer when you get up and out that early? Love, Sue

      • Sue, since I first heard the phrase “Move it or lose it”, I’ve taken it to heart. Now that I find myself in this arthritic life, I am realizing just how true it is. I know exercise is key to helping me remain mobile on my own for as long as possible, and improving my overall health. Thankfully, I discovered the benefits and good feeling of working out years ago and enjoy it. Keep pecking away at it, and before you know it, you’ll be enjoying (or at least persevering, and then enjoying) short walks by the Columbia again. We who frequent here are fighters, and your are certainly no exception despite all life has thrown at you lately. Love you!

    • LYN….JUST SAID WHAT IS HAPPENING TO SUE, SO WON’T REPEAT MYSELF, JUST HOPING TIM WON’T BE FORCED TO STAYING LONGER, MUCH AS I WOULD LIKE IT, BUT WITH A NEW MANAGERIAL JOB, THAT WOULD GO DOWN LIKE A LEAD BALLOON……….FINGERS CROSSED…..LOVE JENNIE XX

  32. Hi folks
Had it done.managed without any drugs just spray up nose.tube went thru nose and down
Sore throat now..prob worse as of sjogrens.and a bit sore there where they took 4 biopsies
But he said all looked good and I have a sliding hernia there
It’s prob respiratory with the sjogrens he said and the hernia causing regurgitation
It was ok just unpleasant .gonna keep on fluids for rest of day no need but I bleed so I’ll do it to keep safe with the biopsy places. But glad it’s over
    Back later Chris

    • CHRIS…WHAT A RELIEF, BEEN THINKING OF YOU ALL DAY MATE, SO GLAD YOU POSTED….LOTS OF REST NOW, TUCK UP IN BED WITH A HOTTIE (NO! NOT THE MALE VARIETY) AND TRY TO GET SOME SLEEP….LOVE YOU…JEN X

    • Chris, so pleased to hear the scope is over. Liquids are a good, wise idea. Some of these symptoms would also fit relapsing polychondritis. It would be a good idea for you to ask about that sometime. Glad it’s behind you now. Thinking of you today more than usual. Love, Sue

  33. Chris
So glad all went well for you this am. Pray the biopsies come back clean. Take care this day and recuperate
Lyn, we are supposed to get sleet now they say. I just hope we don’t get dumped on with snow. 🙂 It is beautiful though huh ? I always liked riding the horse in snow. Course now I would think twice cause they might slip and fall with me on em !
I did pick up a nice used saddle for Baby yesterday. And a bridle. THey had to order me a cinch large enough to fit her. And I need a bit and a nice saddle pad yet. But it will be a while yet before I can ride. I need to check with the Dr when I go back and see what he thinks. Don’t want to jerk anything loose.
Well, gonna get going. It is water aerobic day. Go get some good exercise in. I was at Ms Alice house yesterday for 5 hours while my friends husband installed a new mailbox. This one has a big bottom where you can leave the mail for a few days and not have a full box. So needless to say I am tired this morning.
Sue, I know you will be walking that shore again soon. Taking the kids to the museum and shopping.
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, sleet is no fun. 😦 We are to get snow tonight into tomorrow, maybe some rain mixed, but we’ll see. They are saying 2-4″ last I heard. Then another clipper system Sunday into Monday. I’ve not heard details on that one yet. Sadie will like it. She loves snow. I like walking in the snow, but I think I’d think twice about riding in it now, too. You’re on your way with Baby. Just keep picking up what you can when you can and you’ll probably have all you need by the time you are cleared to start riding. Enjoy your water aerobic day! I really miss swimming. I did check out a hot tub/swim spa blowout at the local expo to price out the cost of a swim spa. Maybe some day… We may have to get SB through college and the house paid off first. I’d really love one, though, and would use it. Enjoy your day!

    • Tonie, pleased to hear you got the saddle. Won’t be long before you’ll be riding her, I’m sure. So many good things are going to happen for you now. Hope you’re looking forward to seeing Nikki, even if the circumstances are sad for her. Brief visit I’m assuming. Hope the sleet doesn’t turn into deep snow. Glad you have the new truck to get around in.
Bet you’re exhausted and hearing and interacting with many old relatives and friends right now due to your ex’s death.
Those mailboxes you described are such a good idea for your friends; especially since they travel so much. Will keep from having to make as many trips over there perhaps. Hang in there. Love, Sue

      • Hey all:
No snow here , some sleet this am, mixed with snow. THen it all turned to rain ! YEAH !! Same tomorrow. Cept my jaws really are aching tonight. Hate when that happens.
Not really so many people talking about the ex. More my family. My brother made me real sad tonight talking about it. There were some good times. (not many, but some 🙂
Very tired tonight, but enjoyed my workout.
        Take care all
        Love
        Tonie

  34. Lyn, appreciated the pep talk last night. Sometimes when times get rough it’s hard to see into the future. Glad your disease allows you so much movement and I know Sadie is pleased. Hope that snow prediction doesn’t occur but according to the news it isn’t looking good. Keep warm and safe, okay? Love, Sue

    • No kidding. They just increased the snow totals. I’m heading out to the grocery store soon. We really do need bread and milk, and a few other things as well. I’ve not heard any update for Sunday into Monday yet. DD works today and Monday, SB works 3-11pm tonight, I’m not sure when over the weekend. He isn’t as good at sharing his schedule as DD. :/ I warned him of the change in forecast, so he will probably pack an overnight bag in case he has to stay there. He’s stayed before when it was iffy to come home. As far as mobility, I’m nowhere near the 10,000 steps a day they “recommend”, but I do what I can each day. Some days I can’t, but I try to if at all possible. I know it’s important. So far I think the yoga is a good thing, but my back is better behaved right now so time will tell. You just do what you can. 😉

      • Lyn, Oh dear. Sounds like a big one heading your way. Smart SB to pack and plan. Prayers for the safety of all of you, especially the kids traveling after dark.
Yes, we each do what we can. The important thing is to be motivated and not give up. Love, Sue

      • Just before he left, SB informed me he thinks he has a small fever along with chills and body aches, and his stomach was starting to feel a bit nauseous. Oh boy. He said he might be calling me tonight. What for? I asked. To bring him home from work early, of course. He really is pretty good about asking for a ride when he’s not up to driving. Hopefully if he does, it will be before snow hits. He texted me from work that his spit from post nasal drip has blood in it (sorry, anyone with a weak stomach.) I reminded him that the dripping may be why he’s feeling a bit nauseous. Never a dull moment. Bless DH who thought it would be a good idea to get sandwiches tonight for dinner since it was just the two of us. 🙂

      • They sent the boy home. They didn’t think he should be there in his present condition, and on top of it he was working with a pregnant gal. He’s resting in his room.

      • Lyn dear, just read about SB. Do you think it’s the flu? There is so much of it out here, not just in our family but everywhere. Jim’s LVN called in today, etc. The nasal bleeding, well, let’s hope he blew too hard or coughed too hard. Fever? Glad they sent him home. Write me if you have anything you want to ask. Stay safe, all of you. Special prayers tonight for all of you as you face this with son and the weather. Hope you got to the store. Love you, Sue

  35. Hi All …. just wanted to say my test went well and the time went by quickly. They run the machine 24/7 and they ask you to be there 20 minutes before your test time so you are ready and waiting and there is no time to be nervous. I saw my FP today and she still didn’t have my report so she put in a call to the hospital, but she told me that no matter what the test shows I will be seeing a neurosurgeon! My neck and head are very painful and I am spending a great deal of time resting with heat applied to the area.
Chris, so glad your appointment is over with too!
Lyn and all, stay safe in this nasty weather! DH is still going to PT because of the pain from his accident.
Hope everyone has a comfortable weekend. Love and Hugs …. Pommum Nana Brenda

    • PM Brenda, not too surprising they want you to see a neurosurgeon, you know in your nurses’ heart your symptoms call out for more investigation. They just wanted the MRI to see how extensive the damage is and design a plan. In the meantime I hope you are splinting and protecting your neck and head with a cervical collar. It is safer dear girl. Thinking of you with love and care, you have a good weekend too. Might try some ice on that neck. I am sorry your DH still has leftover problems.
I have the flu which feels like nothing compared to all the other stuff this year. It will at least pass. Sue

  36. Sue, SB feels fine today. Interesting, huh? The blood, could be simply from dry membranes. I don’t get overly excited when I hear this unless it persists. 🙂

Pommum, glad you are going to the neuro. You need some answers and some help. You and DH take care.

  37. Hi all
Back from shed..good day..but in pain in the oesophagus.i suppose it’s where they took the 5 biopsies in it.but so sore and hurts to swallow .they never said it would be .throat seems to be getting better after the spray that stung

    Lyn
    Hope SB ok
Sue hope the virus gets better now
    Chris

    • Keep spraying and rest up, Chris. I hope the pain passes soon.
I think SB is fine. Maybe some short virus. He looked like himself this morning, and seemed pleasantly surprised to realize he felt good when he woke.

    • Chris……glad you got to the shed, you will soon feel better, its only a couple of days ago you had it done, even when I was “put out” I was still sore for about 4 days after…………hope the weekend is good for you…..love Jen x

  38. Sue
It’s not the sore throat that’s the problem…it’s where I swallow half way down the oesophagus the pressure hurts of swallowing it feels bruised where they took the biopsies. ANd it aches when I swallow

    • Jennie, Glad you’re home safe and sound but sorry Tim isn’t well. Wow, those temps. It was 62 degrees F. here today with some rain last night. No more rain here until Tuesday. We celebrate dryness around Oregon. Have a wonderful visit with your dear son, okay?
My virus is subsiding. I have to start some new chemo pills but am waiting until this all passes. INS is bad enough right now but going to splurge and try Chinese food for dinner…take out of course. I had a busy day pushing myself to do floors and laundry. I must. My life is falling down all around me and I can’t stand it so I drag my back along. Must be more disciplined with the stretches because I know they help. So hard to do them when I’m in pain. Our internet service has been out all day or I would have written all of you sooner. Finally back on after I called the company. Please rest when you can dear girl. Love you much, Sue

    • Jennie, glad you had a safe trip, sorry Tim isn’t feeling well. Hope you’ll have a safe trip back to the airport when it’s time. And of course, a good visit!

    Chris

    • Chris dear, remember the esophagus catches what you put down your throat. Hope it is feeling better. I am sorry you’ve had so much back and forth to the shed but it sounds like you’re getting a lot done and some of it sounds like fun. New shades?
I am sorry to hear there is some family conflict. It is rough to be in the middle but remember, the truth usually works the best in these situations and only sticking our nose in as far as it gets dragged in, you know?
Feel better soon as you wait for results then some help. It’s bound to be sore after they clipped bits. Love you, Sue

    • HI CHRIS…..NOWT’S EVER PERFECT IS IT?….I HAVE BEEN EATING LIKE FOOD IS GOING OUT OF FASHION, SPOILING TIM ROTTEN, AS HE LOOKS PALE AND THIN, SO ENJOYING BEING “MUM” AGAIN, WARM SHEETS, HOT WATER BOTTLES, GOOD NOURISHING FOOD, THING IS I AM HAVING IT TOO, THE PRINGLES AND ORANGE CHOCS…..FEBRUARY WILL BE MY MONTH, GOT TO DIET WITH THE 5;2 AGAIN. 41. Tonie, glad life is settling back to normal. Hope the healing is coming along and that you’re getting your rest as you can in between life’s demands. Thinking of you often dear friend. Love, Sue

  42. Sue
Yep very wise..I only put in Whats needed at the time in a judged way ..but it’s so difficult to See it all .and not comment .when they come to you .I know when all is mended the least said on my part isthe best .but you just want all to be right for them
    But oh dear it’s worrying

They just don’t tell you it will be sore anywhere .just go to drs if you’ve any pain.but to be resonable you would expect some Pain. It’s not too bad at moment but taking nexium
Not new blinds ,,under the guarantee they are replacing the runner as two vertical blinds have got stuck. Everything we have had done so far has been under the guarantee from the site. So trying to get as much fixed in the remaining 12 mths .they are very good. We took a table from the garden here and some chairs on the last 2 trips. Also we bought a pot to put some Rosemary in on the balcony .make it look lived in….just imagining the summer living at moment! Oh but gotta lose weight ….
I hope you get over this bug soon….you must feel washed out with all the cleaning and extra stuff you are doing
Well awake again it’s 2.30am. I think it’s a lot to do with my bladder praps all the time. I couldn’t get to the bathroom quick enough yesterday and it just came thru like a tap wouldn’t stop.carpet all wet
Also my dry eyes get sore I have to put drops in.still I’m used to it..just feels like I wish morning would come
    Enjoy your
Few days with Tim Jen….it will go so fast

Lyn hope SB is still good..worry over
Tonie ..are you getting this bad weather we here about at moment? Anyone else getting it?
We are due for some in a weeks time they are saying
    Chris

    • Chris, talk about wise. The deal you have going to get things fixed while under warranty is smart. I loved hearing about the rosemary. I have a pot right outside my backdoor and it seems to love the winter. It’s been there awhile and getting a bit woodsy but still always green. I’d rather smell it than eat it, personally.
My dear, many of us have problems at various times with incontinence of bladder or bowel so don’t feel badly. Always have pads handy around here. Such is life and if it’s a fact, it just is. Just be sure you don’t have a bladder infection. Hope the esophagus is better today and that you got a bit of sleep. Can the eye doctor give you some soothing drops for your eyes that work better than just the OTC ones? I use Patanol and it’s very soothing. Hope you get caught up on your rest. Love you, Sue
