THE LEANING TREE

I was once a sapling
No, I didn’t say a sap;
Brightly new, tender and green
Like a gift without it’s wrap.

Straight and true all day
Leaning toward the sun
Always back to upright,
When each day was done.

Like all things fresh and young
I had no thought of disease or age
Except to eagerly accept
Each birthday’s turning page.

Life was full and busy
School, friends and family;
Life’s landmarks came with ease
Grades and goals achieved, all carefree.

I took it all for granted
As if it would always be,
Until a storm with winds
Grasped and tore at me.

Roots long undisturbed
Came from the family tree,
Twisting and hurting
Treating me like mere debris.

I began to feel each slash
Each branch began to sway
My bark once protective and thick
Began to fall away.

I thought I deserved much more
Apparently life did not.
Brains, accomplishments and beauty
Obviously all for naught.

Nature, once my friend,
Placed roots and holes in my path
Every act or duty for me
Now held much aftermath.

I looked upward at the blue
And shouted, “Life can’t be this hard!”
Then along would come another storm
Leaving me more battle scarred.

“This isn’t what I had in mind,”
I shouted to the mist,
As each animal in the forest
Came by to take a piss.

“Now look here, I’m tired of this,
I can’t take much more,”
I wailed into the wind
Knew not who I should implore.

Then a soft voice blew into me
It said, “I hear you tree,
Do you think I don’t have care
To listen to your plea?

“I’ve heard every leaf you dropped,
Every flake of bark you’ve lost;
I saw the creatures relieve themselves
You know, we all pay the cost.

“Because you are a part of this
Life’s not springtime and buds,
It’s also blazing sun, icy winds
And cold harsh winter floods.

“You trees all think you’re special
And in your own way you are,
But that doesn’t mean exemptions
You each get to be bizarre.

“Don’t the birds still rest upon you,
Their song reverberating your core?
Don’t the wildflowers still nestle in your shade
With ferns, trusting you with their spore?

“I know your concern for changes,
The ones you’ve had to endure
But you need to recall, you silly stick
This life is but the overture.

“You’re no longer straight and tall,
You’ve begun to bend and break,
But you are a creation of mine
Which means you’re no mistake.

“I will always be here
And you can trust in me.
You just have to let it go
And become a leaning tree.”

  1. I so needed to read this today. I feel like that leaning tree today. I am bending and breaking and full of hurt and pain. It is so nice to know that I am His creation, He is always with me and I can always trust Him! I just have to be that leaning tree and just let go and give it to God! I will send you a private message in a while. Don’t want this all over Facebook. I love you Sue. I hope it finally goes through this time.

  2. I agree with Donna. I needed this today, too. I had one of those rare moments I let myself feel sorry and cry a bit. It’s ok. Only the cats saw. 😉 More adjustments to make and I just don’t want to admit I may need to make them. There’s a surprise. Hugs to all of us Leaning Trees!

    • Lyn, I don’t have a clue why, but your entry made me cry. I guess it’s because you’re always so courageous and I know you must be up against something major if you cried…cats or no. It never stops. all the adjustments and changes to accommodate this very unwanted parasite in our lives…kind of like mistletoe hanging in a tree.

I went to my PCP today and chatted with her about the suggestions from my rheumy in Portland. She is going to call her and discuss me. I’m very blessed to have two such caring, brilliant young women to handle my care. I’m trying not to think about all the changes in the field of medicine right now. It can all be too overwhelming for those of us who already face so much.Hope your weather is not too extreme right now. We’ve had rain all day as the guys try to lay the borders for the new corners and sidewalks.

I feel badly so many of our friends are having trouble logging in here. Others have no difficulty at all. I’m sure between Natalie and I we should be able to walk everyone through it. Hang in there dear friend. I love ya…Sue

    • HI LYN, YEAH I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN, WHEN A LITTLE FURRY FACE PUTS IT ON YOUR LAP LIKE”I TOTALLY GET WHERE YOU’RE AT” WHAT THE HELL DOES THE REST MATTER……LOVE YOU LYN X JENNIE X

  3. Hi all
Good to hear from you Donna . I do hope all will be well with you, but i fear you are not well .from your post

Do we have any control while we sway away ?is it only our minds that we have the ultimate control with.and can we imagine all sorts and give in or fight it all. Maybe we change from day to day.with the weather..a child’s smile..someone’s good deed. So ,infact can others also help up with our outlook to help ourselves ..this blog.. .what would we do without it
    Tonie
Nope my DH was born and bred in Oz
Trying to remember what you said in last post …oh yes well my husband has done one book ,with some other photographers and is doing a new one at moment for another history society.all voluntary ..there .aint no money in it. But he loves doing it and it gets us out.
Glad you got some easy heat for this winter. No doing too much ..ok?

    Sue
Thinking of you.we are all so vulnerable to outside influences.that don’t seem to affect others who are well.
However all your outside influences would have tested a muscle builder this year .!
It’s 4.30 am been awake for a while..bladder playing up
Well gona try and get back to sleep…huh!?
    Chris

    • Chris dear, it occurred to me as I was reading this how much more you write to us now than you did last year. I love that.
I think many of us will lean forever. We have reached a certain point in our disease that is unchangeable and the battle for some is just to stay upright and leaning is a necessary compromise. Perhaps, we should have been leaning on the power greater than ourselves all along. Living with chronic pain is a journey, definitely and each day brings more revelations and more layers to reveal. With each layer there is something else to learn and that part…can be wonderful.
Hope your current discomfort with the bladder ends very soon. Sleep lady, sleep. Love you, Sue

  4. I really really enjoyed reading that Sue. It ran a bell with me, especially the part ” Life can’t be this hard…” cause every time I say that I do get hit with another storm. The leaning tree works well for me, just seems to fit right at this moment. Sometimes I do forget to give it to God and just let it go, but, ah when I remember it’s a much better day.
Wanted to let you know my p pill is working. I can actually wear underwear during the day now. I’m so happy to be able to do that once again.
Lots of rain here so feeling the weather. Guess it’s better than snow, at least you don’t have to shovel it. Ha ha! We still have snow but I’m guessing the rain will melt it all. Miss Molly will be sad to see the snow go, she loves it.
Sue you will not believe what happened to George this week. I had to call an ambulance for him (back home now) but it was kidney stones, so now he has the little cone for when he goes to the bathroom and pills to take to help dissolve them. I’m praying that this time the pills will work and he will not have to be operated like the last time (4 years ago). He seemed so much better when our son, Jonathan brought him back home but now 3 days into it and tonight he was feeling the pain once more.
Peace and love to all on this blog. God Bless the leaning trees.
    Suzanne
    Love you all big! XXX

    • Last night as Storms began blowing this direction–my wounded “branch” began to cry out for RELIEF!! Somehow I seem to think typing the word in big print helps~~~as if that were a magical way to help ease the Pain increasing by the seconds as I hear Thunder announcing its impending arrival…. All part of the Chronic Pain game that found its way into my life and has turned me upside down, inside out, and Yes~~oh yes the Bark has been ripped from my body and now I feel the sagging limbs all the time.

Anger can come so easily–as I lay tossing back and forth, trying to throw the Pain away from my weary body and my husband casually asks “So, how goes the Pain tonight?”
His gentle smile tells me this wave of Pain is a “Repeat Performance” and we must ride it out–hoping to retain as many of my branches as possible!

Suddenly the sound of Heavy Rains are hitting the ground outside~~as I click the sound off from the tv~~~pausing to hear the true beauty of that Sound. Slowly I drift off to sleep–the Pain has settled back to a gentle pace. Another Storm, another night of wicked struggle has passed. I give thanks for HIS comforting hands as HE holds me and I make it through another Storm……

Beautiful words you have blended together Sue, just need more “Fireplugs” for the pesky animals to raise their legs to…… martha

      • Martha, you have described my own nights. I watch my DH, little Jake our schnauzer and George all sleep and wish…It’s 1 AM now and I’m going to give it a try. Hope you are able to sleep in spite of the storm.
You know, as a writer I choose my words very carefully and getting pissed on is part of our condition. Perhaps I let too much it all hang out but we’re being honest here. It’s happened to me in all ways…how about you? Sleep well tonight dear lady..peace be with you and rest. Sue

    • Happy..AKA Suzanne, I am so sorry to hear about your George. What is it with our husband’s and those darn stones. Having read about the effects of too much calcium for men, I have taken one of Jim’s 500 mg tablets out of his daily vits. Since he had never had a stone previously, it is a possible cause. I’ve read that cherry extract can help to prevent kidney stones. It does work for some. You might look into it.Hope George gets along well and passes those stones or stone. Now we had a breakthrough today with our little 4 lb. George. He lifted his leg to pee. I was hoping he’d hold off on that until we had him neutered but alas…Unfortunately such an action requires an upright surface…oh dear.
I chuckled out loud at your improvement with the underwear. Where else but on here where we talk about butts, etc. can you talk about such intimate things? I love it. Very pleased you are responding to the help…keep it up sweet girl. Sue

      • Well Jennie, very quite day for me today. This darn pain seems to be moving around my body. Will be speaking to the doc about that. This is new for me. I’m not really sure what is happening to my body.
        Enjoy the day my friends.

    • Oh my two of my trees have been blown down. It’s been quite NASTY around here today. It is now 4:55 a.m. and the wind seems to have stopped. phew, lots of clean up tomorrow. I still have not gone to sleep, better try again.

George is starting to feel the pain on his side again, but today he went to the dentist to get a tooth pulled ( back of his mouth) but it was a bigger job than they anticipated. The roots of his tooth were connected to his jaw bone. He now has heavy meds for the pain. ( 3-4 days).
Hope all is well with everyone. God Bless You All.
      love ya big!

      • Oh Suzanne: From a lovely day to a mess. So sorry. Poor George, prayers for him (and you) dear. I have had the same kind of tooth and it is so painful. Do you think your pains could be from the weather that hit you ?? I know it does a lot of us that way. Do tell your Dr as well. Have you seen the Rhuemy yet ?? Our time changed last night and instead of my usual 730 wake up here I am at 630. Oh well, took my pills and came to see what ya’all were doing.
What kind of trees did you loose ? I hate when the wind blows so hard. I hope it was not very big ones. Do be careful if you help cleaning up and don’t overdo. Seems like in the winter the winds are awful anymore. And it seems that my body just flares up when the wind is high. Hope they are gone for now.
        GOd bless ya !
        Tonie

  5. Morning all:
Sue very good indeed. Reminds me of a group of trees I pass going and coming from work. They sit at the top of a yard all in a row, straight and tall. Except the on the very end. It looks like the wind blew it slightly over and it grew that way. so instead of straight it grows leaned over. Just as healthy and bright as the others yet leaning over. The wind blows us where it may, but we are anchored deep in the ROCK and it cannot carry us away.
Indeed the wind has picked up greatly here, and as always when the wind is like that I feel pretty yuk. But this too shall pass. \
Chris: I have always assumed OZ is Australia ?? WHat kind of camera does DH use ??
Love to you all and prayers as well.
    Tonie

    • TONIE MY FRIEND……HOW ARE YOU DOING? WE STILL GOT THE TAIL END OF THE STORM HERE, BUT DYING DOWN, HAD FRIENDS IN MORE REMOTE PLACES THAT HAVE NOT BEEN SO FORTUNATE THOUGH. WE USED TO HAVE TALL STRAIGHT TREES OUTSIDE THE STATIC CARAVAN WE USED TO HAVE IN THE UK A FEW YEARS AGO, WHEN IT WAS WARM AND WE COULD SIT WITH THE DOORS OPEN I USED TO LOVE WATCHING THEM SWAY IN THE BREEZE, NOW THATS EXACTLY WHAT I DO, TEE HEE!! LOVE YOU SWEETS…………JENNIEXX

      • I am doing ok ms Jennie poo ! I love the way you call them “static Caravans” sound much more classy than “Mobile Home” ! I have the doors and windows open today. Beautiful day sunny and bright. We are having a bon fire tonight for the kids at church. Hotdogs, marshmellows and silly fun ! Hang in there friend.
        Love

    • Hya
Yep I meant Australia ,that’s where he was man and boy!
      The camera is a Nikon D 5200
Just come in from sorting out my dads flat and his clothes and seeing him.back later
      Chris

    • Tonie, interesting that we both live in areas filled with gorgeous trees. Yours a different, more changeable than ours as to shedding but all types hold up to the elements of nature. During the winter here we get such fierce winds and rain, it is awesome. Some of it is our proximity to the Pacific O. So many trees are leaning against each other in our forests from the severe storm of 2007. Our sheriff who Jim works for finally got a measure passed to cut trees along our highways because they present such a tragic and fatal danger during those storms. There are always folks driving along the highways who get a tree falling onto their cars or one that appears across the road in the dark, all with tragic results. During that storm of 2007 we were totally ringed in here for 7 days with the two large highways from Portland were covered with hundreds of downed trees. It was interesting because the reporters couldn’t get out here to report it to the rest of the world. Very isolated, strange time and the trees and the roofs suffered the most.
Looks like we each become leaning trees eventually…Love, Sue

      • Sue:
I remember seeing all the trees in Oregon along the coast leaning into the wind. They are like that up in the Grand Canyon as well, just clinging onto the side of a mtn. So beautiful and such an inspiration for us to hold on. Glad they are gonna be able ot cut all those trees down. Nothing scarier than seeing them move in the wind. We had to cut our way out of our home when Hugo hit the east coast. Had to walk out with the chain saw, cut a while then go back and see if the truck would fit thru. Rest easy today friend
        Love
        Tonie

    • Tonie, we lost one Spruce (not too big) and one Tamarac tree (huge). Yes I’m sure the weather has something to do with the pain I’m feeling. Today the sun is shining and I will try to get my bulbs in. My grandson bought me a whole bunch of them as he knows I love flowers. I will be looking forward all winter to see them pop their little heads out of the ground. Always nice to have something to look forward to.
Still waiting on the rheumy???? Wish they would call so I would be able to move forward with all that is happening to my body. I must say the pills I started taking for RA are working, just not all day.
Hope all is going well for you sweetie.
Love ya all big! Enjoy the day.

  6. HI SUE………JUST GOT BACK FROM SHOPPING, FORGOT IT WAS “THE DAY OF THE DEAD” HERE SO MOST STORES WERE SHUT………WE MANAGED TO STOCK UP THOUGH AS EVERYTHING IS ON HOLD FOR US AND WE MUST BE PREPARED FOR THE HOSPITAL. I HAD TO LEARN NOT TO LEAN LIKE THE TREE TODAY, AS MY DH WANTED TO TAKE ME FOR A SPECIAL MEAL AS HE MIGHT BE AWAY ON MY BIRTHDAY, IT WAS LOVELY, DRANK TOO MUCH SAKI THAN WAS GOOD FOR ME, COULD BE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE NAKED MAN AT THE BOTTOM OF THE GLASS….YES I KID YOU NOT, THE MORE YOU DRANK THE BIGGER HE GOT…..WHEW!!! YOU ARE ONE CLEVER LADY WRITING SUCH A LOVELY AND POIGNANT POEM, I JUST LOVED IT, ITS SADNESS FOR THE FACT THAT HALF OF US CAN NO LONGER STAND UPRIGHT, BUT THE COURAGE TO “GIVE IT A GO” OH I AM BEING MAUDLIN……..MORE SAKE ANYONE?? LOVE YOU SUE MY FRIEND………JENNIE XXX

    • Jennie, So?Naked men and Saki? That’s what I call a birthday dinner and indeed, you probably were leaning a bit, maybe like a Japanese Maple? Shake those leaves sweet lady…
Personally, I’m just thankful to stand at all, climb my stairs, do my housework, etc. I don’t do any of it as well as I used to but so what? At least I do it. Call it stubbornness, tenacity or therapy…,doesn’t matter does it, as long as we stay safe. I find the more I lean, the less patience I have for those who don’t try or are always complaining, don’t you?
Well, progress here today with the cement mixer out front a they lay our new sidewalks. Now we’ll do some private hiring for what is left and needed doing before all the rest. I’m afraid the exhaust is making me nauseous and giving me a headache as it leaks into the house so I need to grab something for nausea. Now, about that naked man at the bottom of your glass???? Love it…Sue

      • Hope whatever you took for nausea helped you my dear friend. I hate it too Sue when people don’t try and then complain about it. You HAVE TO TRY AT LEAST.
So Jennie what about that naked man.??!! Ha ha.
Take good care of yourselves. Love you all big. HUGE… Right Jennie.

    • Brenda from TX, so good to hear from you. It’s been awhile. Thank you for sharing your feelings with me. It helps me also to get feedback. I’m always nervous when I go out there on a limb and post something edgy. Well, I am sorry you need this reassurance but glad we’re all in that boat together and it still floats. Come again…Sue

      • Jennie, this is a different Brenda. Our Nana Brenda is from Canada and she did make a comment on the last blog. She’s been having trouble with the technical stuff but I think we’ve got it straightened out now. She’s wrapping up the cottage for winter right now. How’re you doing sweet lady? Sue

  7. Sue–
It tugged at my heart to know you also have nights of struggle against Pain. But it also angered me as I thought about just how much of US goes into the battle. My writing comes from my heart~~and I have lost count on how many times I have found myself wrapped in a whirl wind of Anger~~because I can’t control this rotten Pain when it decides “Time to Mess with the old gal” and I just hang on for the ride. Yet as your words reflect–“We keep holding our branches up” and push through the worst moments of Pain.

You bring a great deal of Strength to so many Sue– and your words are filled with crystal clear Honesty!
I am honored to read them…… Blessings. martha

    • Martha dear, as one writer to another, I always have valued your memories, experiences and opinions. We’re in this for the long haul and we can do it! Fondly, Sue

      • Sue–
I love the comment “We are in this for the Long Haul” because that is what Chronic Pain feels like at times–We are Hauling this Pain with us, knowing the distance is long and filled with pot holes all around us. One step at a time, doing the best we can.

Thank you for the “writer” compliment and I send it right back your way..

        Blessings. martha

Don’t come in thru email or facebook, come straight in from http://www.weeklydoseofsue.com You should be asked to sign in once, and if you tell it to save your password, you shouldn’t have to sign in ever again from your computer. Not sure if that is what is happening to you, but worth a try. Hope this helps some.

    • THANKS FOR THAT TONIE……..I HAVE HAD TO GO DOWN THAT ROUTE A FEW TIMES TOO, BUT WHATEVER WORKS, AS LONG AS WE GET ON.
WHO KNOWS TONIE, MAYBE ONE DAY YOU MIGHT GET TO AUSTRALIA, OR IF NOT THAT, MAYBE FIND SOMEONE TO DEVELOP YOUR FILMS. HOW ARE YOU DOING, ANY SNOW YET?? LOVE YA. JENNIE X

      • OOOHHH !! SNOW ?? Not yet, pray it is a long time coming. Worn to a frazzle tonight. One too many trips up and down the hill and too long on my feet. But rest will ease it.
        Love ya back !

  9. Hi all
Just incase you didn’t catch it Tonie as it went higher up the blog
DH is Australian and camera is a Nikon D 5200
Well busy day back and fore getting dads clothes and sorting stuff out,he comes home Monday
Trying to get some work done at home too
Fireworks nite here nov 5th. But they have started out there now sounds like a war zone
DD new home was built in the 1920s but she has the deeds going back with the land to 1800s and it was owned by lord spencer ,princess diana family so anyway she gave me the deeds to look at so I’m gonna go thru those now….you know me
Oh yes I am on the blog more Sue, got to know you all more I think thru emailing
    Bak tomorrow
    Chris

    • Chris dear, I love your interests in all thing old and historical. How exciting for your DD to have that story to share. So Dad’s going home on Monday? Hope he will have plenty of visiting nurses, etc. With a fall as severe as his, it will take time..poor guy.
We have a new sidewalk, not yet dry with yellow tape all around it. Expecting rain tonight but it’s supposed to be dry by then. Called Jim and warned him to come in the back door. If it’s dark when he gets home and after this weekend it surely will be all next week. Darkness descends with falling back on the clock. Beth and GS both down with sore throats today. When is your DD moving into her house? Much love, Sue

    • Hey Chris:
Cool !I wondered if he was using Digital or still with the old school type cameras. I would love to have one of those , can’t remember the name right now, but starts with an “L”. Too rich for my blood though. I have an old Kodack “pocket camera” from 1918 or so. It has the bellows on it but folds up to the size of a wallet. Very edgy for that time. I have a roll of film but have never used it cause I really don’t know who would develop it. I have always want to go to OZ ! Ms Alice’s daughter and grands live there. I love the accent and yes, I would PAY your hubby to talk to me. I especially like to hear the Brits say “ALUMINUM” ! Very interesting about the land your DD has. Wonder where THEY got it from ??
      Take care rest up
      Tonie

    • How interesting Chris to be going through the deed of the house and land. Wow, all the way back to the 1800’s pretty sweet.
Nice sunny day here, thank you God. It always helps to have the sun shining.
      Do have a great weekend.
      Love to all

  10. Sue:
did you take Georgie down and put his paws in the wet cement ?? 🙂 Glad you are getting it back together there finally. I am fixing to go get the college kids (Va Tech) to come work on the house today. We had a good time last night with the bonfire at church. I am tired, but must needs get this done here !! Monday go to the Dr for my back see what the MRI found. Then Tues am at 8 have to be with Ms Alice until the polls close cause Fran is working. So Wed I will probably be doing nothing but resting !!
Hope you are having a calm weekend
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Thinking of you this weekend as you have the roof coated for the summer. Those young volunteers have to be the best. Yes, it will be interesting to see what the MRI reveals As far as a calm weekend here, don’t know. We were awakened before 7AM by some moron in India trying to sell us something. Jim got up and got dressed and went into the jail to finish the pile of work he didn’t get finished yesterday. Sidewalk look good. Now we have to have the rest completed on our own dollar. Don’t overdo it this weekend..yes, I know you. Love, Sue

      • Sue:
WELLLLLL…you know me too well. After a hot shower and a bit of supper I am here on my heated blanket almost asleep. Got 3/4 of the roof done(need one more gallon) the level is better in the back, got more mulch on my flower beds and the mailbox is put up. So now I have to go and change ALL my address’ to go to the new mailbox. My knees are absolutely done in as is my back and hips and well all of me. Had fun with the three kids I had. They said they had fun also. I just realized while they were working, that although I can’t do it anymore, and they are helping me, I am actually helping THEM as well. We had such a good laugh as 2 of the 3 had never driven a nail in before, so it was a learning experience. The girl got to dig a post hole and set a post, she was thrilled. It was fun, and although I am exhausted, I feel such accomplishment.
        Love ya
        Tonie

  11. OH MAN,I KNEW I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR MY LITTLE BIT OF PLEASURE YESTERDAY, ALL THOSE HOURS SITTING ON A HARD CHAIR IN THE CANTONESE RESTAURANT HAVE DONE FOR ME, DON’T CARE, IT WAS SO NICE TO BE OUT WITH MY DH.
WHAT A MISERABLE DAY IT IS HERE, GREY AND DRAB, DH MANAGED TO GET THE LAWNS MOWED FOR THE LAST TIME THIS YEAR, IT STARTING TO RAIN, GOT ALL MY CHORES DONE, SO THOUGHT I WOULD WRITE TO YOU GUYS, AND ALSO WISH YOU ALL HAPPY WEEKEND. LOVE JENNIE XX

    • Well Jennie, you are paying the price but I’m sure it was worth it to be out with your DH celebrating. Good for you Jennie. Now that all your chores are done, you should be resting up.
      Love you big.

  12. SUE……….HOW ARE THINGS, THAT ROAD FINISHED YET?? HOW IS LITTLE GEORGE? ITS THE LST DOWNTON NEXT WEEK, SUNDAY WON’T BE THE SAME HERE, IT SHOULD HIT YOUR SHORES IN JANUARY. DO YOU CELEBRATE “BONFIRE NIGHT” IN THE USA? OR “GUY FAWKES NIGHT” AS ITS KNOWN TO SOME? THE FRENCH DON’T DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT HERE, I DO MISS ALL THAT TO BE HONEST, BUT ITS HARROWING FOR THE ANIMALS. I HOPE YOU AND JIM ARE ABLE TO HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND. OH BLIMEY!! LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER STORM BREWING AS WE SPEAK, BATTEN DOWN THE HATCHES ONCE MORE, HERE WE GO!!! LOVE YOU SUE AND THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR SUCH A SUPER BLOG, YOU SHOULD WRITE A BOOK OF POEMS……….JENNIE XX

    • Jennie, We’re also having a storm but don’t know if we’ll see any scary winds yet. Yes, the asphalt on the roads is completed and with the corners, ours and the one across the street with fresh cement, they look great. Funny to get so excited over something so basic. Now we will hire a guy to redo our steps which are cracked from age, both in front and back as our house in on a small hill. The cement guy has been very busy. He’s a local guy as the road crew, etc is a huge construction firm that is still working all over town for at least one more month.

I spent a lot of time yesterday just scrubbing things. It’s amazing how dirty the house has become over the summer with all the road dirt, fire and house sanding, etc. I’m currently having some trouble with my right shoulder and I’m right handed so it limits what I can do. Xrays on it next week. There is much going on medically for both Jim and I. He’s having a cardiac stress test next week. Think the doctor can’t understand why his B/P stays up there with meds. Then he’s finally giving in and having a colonoscopy. Thanks to this mess called Obamacare, our deductible on our insurance has gone up four times over what it was, starting in Jan. 14.Think he wants to get things done now and that’s one of the reasons. I’ll talk more about some of my current dilemmas at another time or maybe on FB to get input from the 600+ folks on there as well as all of you my constant friends.

No we do not celebrate Bonfire Night here in America. Jen, sorry you had to pay a price for the dinner out but do identify with the choice. We can’t just lie down for all of our lives, right? Hold onto the memories of that dinner. Much love, Sue

      • Oh my dear Sue, you and your DH certainly have a busy week ahead. Sending you prayers and angels.
        love , Suzanne XXX

    • YES Chris that is the one I meant !! Would LOVE to have one. And yes, the Kodak does still work. I guess I have watched so many movies set in Oz that it holds a fascination for me. My two favorites are “The Earthling” with Ricky Schroder and William Holden. BEAUTIFUL ! The other is “Quiqley Down Under” Tom Selleck. You take care dear !
      TOnie

  14. Forgot to add
DD house was one of a street built on land sold in parcels of large plots from earl spencer to another earl…or the other way around back in1810

I do hope that your DH has now passed that stone.to be out of pain.
Pain seems to move around our bodies ,it seems dependent on whatever we do.but I hope some rest has made you feel a bit better
It’s good that you can take those p pils and they work tor you
Yea it’s interesting for me to go thru those deeds of DD ,that used to be my job when I used to work and making sure they were all ok.Talk about having your job as your hobby!

Sue what a time you’ve got this week.do the pills not touch the bp at all ?
Don’t forget to keep me in the loop if you tell all on face book..sorry you have to repeat it….
Yep my dad has hosp. at home comming from the hosp he is in now for up to 6 weeks and for 3x a day
He thinks he is going to go out on his scooter again straight away!
Going foo shopping for him on the Monday and call round with it as he comes out.luckily DH has a hosp appt and we can go straight after .it fits in with the times
Well gonna try to go back to sleep had to nudge D H snoring …..Chris

  16. Dear Chris:
Snoring dogs are just as bad as men !! 🙂 Sometimes I have to hush mine up. I am still worn out this am. I have to teach Sunday School today. I know what my plans are after church. Lunch and a NAP !! My DVD player in the bedroom has quit and I need to replace it. I like to lay on the bed and put in an old movie and it will put me off to sleep. Interesting job you had. I bet you can find all sorts of things in deeds as old as your country is. What are some of the oldest you remember ? Or the more interesting one from a historical standpoint ? I am not sure that the deeds here read very much back years except the most recent purchasers. I think you actually have to go to the courthouse to see anything extensive on them. Hope you got some more sleep and are feeling well. SO glad your Dad is coming home. He is a CARD ain’t he ?? Thinking he is going out scootin around right off ! At least with his drive and ambition he will not go down easily. Prayers for your strength dear. take care and have a lovely day.
    Love
    TOnie

    • Tonie, I agree with you and Chris. I watch movies and every night and like Chris have to wake up to rewind every once in awhile.Sorri you’ve so exhausted Tonie. It does sound like it was worth it, however to help those kind kids get so much accomplished.
Tonie, you live in an area so rich in early American history. Out here on the w. coast it’s mostly the pioneers and adventurers we hear about like Lewis and Clark. There was apparently one incident when a Japanese sub tried to land during WW11. There is so much memory in the soil from both wars, back in VA. Have a cold starting up and a bad headache.
Hope you’re resting and getting ready for a new week…new mailbox, huh? Sounds homey. Love you, Sue

      • Our house use to be the old school house where the road ended. We still have the original hard wood floors in the dining room and living room (one big room actually) It was built in 1872! Wish those floors could talk. Imagine the stories they could tell us. Of course since buying this house we have added on many more rooms. We have all the papers also and when Valcartier made a book about the old school houses George’s name was put in the book as the new owner. Really interesting stuff.
Hope all goes well with your dad today. I agree with Tonie about his drive and ambition. Always good to have. Good for him but much harder for you.
        God bless you all.
        love, Suzanne XXX

WILL THEY KEEP JIM IN A COUPLE OF DAYS BECAUSE OF HIS B/P BEING SO HIGH, HOPE NOT, FUNNY WHY THE MEDS ARE NOT WORKING, SOUNDS LIKE THE SAME PROBLEM CHRIS’S DH HAS.
REGARDING THE BONFIRE NIGHT, I EXPECT YOU KNOW THE HISTORY BEHIND THAT, GUY FAWKES AND HIS CRONIES TRIED TO BLOW UP THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT, HE WAS TRIED AND FOUND GUILTY AND PUT TO DEATH, SO EVERY 5TH OF NOVEMBER, PEOPLE MAKE AN EFFIGY OF HIM AND PUT HIM ON A BONFIRE AND SET LIGHT TO HIM, AND LET FIREWORKS OFF, ALL VERY PAGAN REALLY, BUT THE YOUNG UNS LIKE IT. • Jennie, do you have avocados in France? My kids and I used to go the drive -in movies with these delicious sandwiches, in fact DD still eats them as do I. We toasted onion buns, mixed the avocado with lemon and a bit of mayo, topped with crisp bacon..so yummy. Squirts out the sides.
Sorry you didn’t feel well last night. I fear I’ve caught GS’s virus..DD has it also. Chills last night and a cold this AM..we’ll see. I have long ago accepted the fact that life is never simple…YEEKK!! Love, Sue

Back in the dark age when I was younger I went to measure up an alteration in Knebworth House.it was built from the late 1400s .i was to only measure the bit that had just been done…but of course I was by myself and had a wander.it was great no one else there but me i could always have said I was looking for deteriation!
As far as the deeds..well I suppose the oldest would be about the late 1700s.that would be for the land sales
It was a job I could get lost in ..suited me.especially with the old large maps I had to find to mark on the sale…….but ofcourse I moved to Malaya and there we go! But I got a similar job when I came back to the UK
Hope you get the DVD player sorted.i like the tv on or something I’ve recorded to try and go to sleep with .helps combat the snoring! But then I keep waking up and having to rewind to watchit!
    Jen
    Bacon sandwiches luv em!
    Sue
I’m don’t understand the obamacare like Jen and how it all affects everybody,…fancy having to pay more tho!
But I hope Jim does get sorted.i feel you are more worried than you say.youve got your xray as well
Hope all had a good w.end Chris

    • Chris: That would’ve been Heaven, wandering around on my own looking at all that marvel ! It amazes me how things were built and put together.
Jennie, I love BLT’s Bacon lettuce and tomato with Mayo on them ! Yummee.
      Take care my luvs!
      Tonie

      • Tonie and Jennie, one of our favorites quick dinners is the following: Take a slice of good bread, cover it with a good sharp cheddar..completely so it won’t burn in the broiler, cover the cheese with a slice of sweet onion and two slices of tomato and top with a couple of slices of bacon: broil on low. It’s so good.I’m certain the cholesterol content is not good but oh so good. Sue

      • TONIE……OH MAN!!! BLT’S, ME TOO, ON CIABATTA MMMMMMM!!!!!!! ON THE SUBJECT OF STATELY HOMES, WE USED TO LIVE NEAR KENTWELL HALL IN SUFFOLK, AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE YEAR, ALL THE STAFF DRESS UP IN PERIOD COSTUME, AND SPEAK OLDE ENGLISH, ITS GREAT, THEY COOK OLD FASHIONED RECIPES TOO, MAKES A GREAT DAY OUT. I AM THINKING AND PRAYING FOR YOU TODAY TONIE, LET US KNOW THE RESULTS OF YOUR MRI A.S.A.P…….LOVE YOU ….JENNIE XX

    • Chris, oh my gosh. You are a true historian. That’s so wonderful. You must have so much knowledge tucked into that brain of yours. I love history and all related to it. If you walked into our home, I’m embarrassed to say it looks and is as crowded as an antique shop. Just as cluttered, also. I agree with Tonie..you are in the right country.
No, dear, I am not overly worried about Jim. He’s never had a colonoscopy and he should. His B/P, like your DD’s is a problem. It will be good to find out if there are any cardiac problems. I think, quite frankly, it is a good thing for both of us to get some procedure done because we’ve met our medical deductible for this year and in Jan. our deductible will go from $1500 per year to $5000. Yes. Hard to believe. Hundreds of thousands of folks if not millions have had their insurance cancelled due to Obamacare.I would explain that plan but no one understands it. It is 18000 pages of confusion. I’m sure you’ve heard the website as gone down for it several times and it is a complete disaster of confusion and incompetence…and they hired a Canadian company to set it up for millions. Oh, don’t get me started.
Prayers for your very adventurous Dad. Lock up his cart/scooter…good chain lock. Much love, Sue

  19. Hi everyone, I’ve been trying to keep up by reading but think my tree top is a bit twisted right now. My own body is a piece of work and dad’s having problems again. He’s had prostate surgery twice but is having difficulty again (last pathology was scar tissue). He doesn’t have prostate CA but benign issues are still issues. Taking Grandma Cupid to the vet tomorrow….rainbow bridge time. I hate this part of owning and loving my darling pets but it is the reality. She’s in a lot of pain due to her spinal arthritis, can’t see well and has a lot of GI issues which means she doesn’t tolerate the pain meds. I’ve been trying to keep her going for a few years but when you look into their eyes, you know it’s time. Pow on the other hand is doing beautifully. Her recovery is nothing short of amazing. Nessie is my rock and I dread having to retire her from her service dog duties. (she will always live with me). She’s not ready to retire yet but as she’s going to be 10 at the end of January, I know it will come sooner rather than later. Worry over my animals has had me in a bit of a down phase but I keep trying to stay outwardly ok.

    • Glad you were finally able to get on, Laura. Oh, I feel for you. But you are right. When you look into their eyes you can tell when it’s time. Much kinder than having them linger suffering. But never an easy task. Dear Grandma Cupid. She is a beauty. So Sweet. I’ll be thinking of you both tomorrow. Cuddles and hugs.

    • BLS!So sorry for your duty tomorrow. I know you will be sad, but so proud of you for doing what is best for HER. SHe has been a good friend and deserves a rest. Take care, prayers for you, your dad and your pets.
      Tonie

  20. Laura, so good to hear from you. Oh dear, problems for your kind Dad, I know, even benign prostate problems can be so darned irritating for a guy. Prayers he gets on okay.
You know when I saw the pic you posted the other day when Grandma Cupid wanted to cuddle, I got a sad feeling for the two of you. Oh that pain and even though you know you’re showing her the greatest love, it still hurts so much. But you know you’re doing the right thing. Prayers of comfort for you our friend. That’s rough duty, Hope your weather is cooperating with your body. Glad you’re surrounded by good friends. Love ya, Sue

  21. BLS…so good to hear from you .but so sorry for what you have to do today
Also to hear about your dad
Sue You know what ,I would love to walk into your house. It looks so good where it is
Yep I’ve heard about the computers packing up…I can’t make sense of it. Doesn’t sound good at all
My dad ain’t comming out today now has to wait for the drs to see.he has a temp and feeling cold.so good job I waited to buy food for him.have to ring later to see whats up
Hope all goes well with all for this week I know a few of us have a lot on
    Chris

    • CHRIS……….GOOD LUCK WITH DAD, I WILL CATCH UP WITH YOU, IF YOU LET ME KNOW WHEN ITS OK, GETTING COLD INIT MATE, BLOODY RAIN HERE ALL DAY, HOW ABOUT YOU? SUE IS RIGHT YOU NEED TO GET A STRONG PADLOCK ON THAT SCOOTER OF DAD’S, AND MAKE SURE HE HAS NO ACCESS TO BOLT CUTTERS, HA HA!!! LATERS……..JEN X

  22. Chris sorry to hear your dad is not coming home today, but he is better off in the hospital for now especially having a fever. Keep us posted on what’s happening. Prayers for all.

  23. THIS IS FOR EVERYONE…I FOUND SOME OF OUR LOST SHEEP FOR VARIOUS REASONS SOME ENTRIES DIDN’T MAKE IT THROUGH UNTIL DAYS AFTER THEY WERE WRITTEN. IF YOU CARE TO LOOK ON THE LAST BLOG, ABOUT CRYING, YOU WILL FIND MORE ENTRIES FROM BOBSLED LAURA, POMMUM WHO IS NANA BRENDA FROM CANADA, TRISH, LINDA S., AND OUR OTHER BRENDA. THANKS TO NATALIE FOR TRACKING THEM DOWN AND FOR SOME ERRORS ON THEIR PART AND OURS BEING CORRECTED. IT’S ALWAYS ROCKY GETTING A NEW BLOG RUNNING SMOOTHLY. THIS IS SUCH GOOD NEWS. SUE

  24. Sue:
I am so happy you found the other entries (and Natalie) Now we can have a smoother run ! I will pop over and look them up.
Well home from the Doc’s. Nice drive in and got there an hour early and they took me right in ! 🙂 Bonus. Nice Nurse Practioner. Well, deteriorating discs on T2 n 3. Pushing on my nerves (which we knew) Lots of arthritis. She is referring me for some injections, and put me on 5mg of pred for 30 days to see if we can get it to settle down some. She wanted to give me a medi-pak but I told her it didn’t do much good, so we went for the 5mg. So I will take it a couple of weeks and then let up. AND the Doc I am seeing is not an Ortho, he is a Neurosurgeon. So she is referring me to the Orthopod for my upper back and shoulders. Whew ! Had lunch at Chik-Fil-i Very good, then went to Goodwill and found some goodies to make into Bazaar stuff. Went thru Big Lots. Life in the country, when you get out you go to all the shops !
Tomorrow is a long day sitting with Ms Alice, election day. I pray we get a good Governor. Take care all.
Chris, Glad your dad didn’t get home and then have to go back. Take care.
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Glad you got results. Doesn’t sound like any surprises there. Injections often do help. I like the idea of a month of low dose prednisone. Hopefully, it will bring you some relief.
I hope you get a good governor, also.
Can’t blame you for the shopping. It’s good for all of us to get out and not just shop, but mingle.with our fellowman. Now, rest up. Love you, Sue

      • Sue so sorry to hear that you are down again. God bless you, you just can’t seem to get ahead of it right now. BUT ! I know my hard headed friend and she is just too stubborn to let this get her down. Judy came thru surgery good, Mary said she was doing fine. I will call her tomorrow when she is not so groggy and has rested. I am gonna ask her if she saved that knee bone for my dogs 🙂 lol ! Got home, got the boys bathed and de-flead again. Made up a quick spaghetti using some deer burger my brother gave me. But my tummy is not happy today so we will see !!
Snuggle up with George and Jake and snooze the evening away. I have sewing to do while I watch NCIS !
        Love you much
        Tonie

    • HI TONIE,
SORRY TO HEAR YOUR ARTHI IS SO BAD, LETS HOPE THE PRED EASES IT ENOUGH FOR YOU TO GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE, WHICH I AM SURE YOU WILL ANYWAY. A LONG DAY TODAY FOR YOU WITH MISS ALICE, IS SHE GOOD COMPANY, AND WHAT ARE HER CAPABILITIES? IS SHE A BIT OF A CHARACTER??
I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN WITH REGARDS TO LIVING IN THE COUNTRY, I DO THAT, GO BONKERS WHEN I HIT THE SHOPS. WE DON’T HAVE MANY THRIFT SHOPS HERE, AND WHAT THERE IS, ARE RUN BY THE “BRITS” THE FRENCH DON’T BELIEVE IN GIVING OWT AWAY HA HA!!!
HOPE YOU SOON GET SOME RELIEF PETAL….TAKE IT EASY AFTER TODAY, NOWT WRONG WITH A DAY OFF NOW AND AGAIN, ………… LOVE YOU,,,,,,,JENNIE XX

      • Hey Jennie Poo !!
Yes Ms Alice is a card ! She is 2nd generation IRISH so you can imagine ! We have a good time talking and laughing. She can’t walk very much and has not been feeling very froggie since the weather changed. I made her pumpkin waffles for lunch and she liked them, then a cup of chocolate and a cookie for a snack. She loves her sweets.
I am gonna make me some peppermint tea and see if my tum settles down.
        Love
        Tonie

It gets complicated just following it ,what a lot going on there
Hope now tho you will get to feel betterer
I quite like it when I don’t get out to town cos when you go then all the colours seem to be brighter somehow!..well I don’t really like going to town ,just I’m there nearly every blimmin day lately!

Dad had a bladder infection and the temp up…catheter I suppose …anyway he’s on antibiotics and home tomorrow now.ambulance bringing him about 11am.i did a lot of shopping for him so it would last …and he only likes it from a certain shop….and only certain things .as well I have to be careful what to choose with his swallowing . What a game!
Had to go to dr with DH bp over w.end 170/105 ? I said he had to go no choice he had a bad head too
Got new tabs to try…..lisinopril..also before we try those some diuretics…
    Fed up with it all….
Me well I’m just putting on weight that makes me feel like sh.t as well
How’s all others today? Hope you don’t get too bad with this virus Sue
    Chris

    • Chris, you are so patient. It’s okay to get tired of it all…goodness, you’re only one person and and have plenty of problems of your own. I can see why you are so concerned over DH’s B/P. Let’s hope the new tabs help but surely the diuretic will. This growing old is so difficult, isn’t it? I just hate it most of the time. Yes, I have the virus, diarrhea and bad headache but not worth talking about..will go away soon. Get some rest dear friend and realize Dad cannot have everything his own way…he’ll just keep pushing you. Tough love. Do take care of you. Sue

      • SUE……..JUST TO WISH YOU BETTER, POOR LOVE, WHAT WITH ONE THING OR ANOTHER, ITS ENOUGH TO TRY THE PATIENCE OF A SAINT. WILL WRITE AGAIN LATER, JUST WANTED YOU TO KNOW I AM THINKING OF YOU, AND GREAT NEWS ABOUT THE OTHER GALS ISN’T IT? LOVE YOU, JEN X

      • Hi Sue., Hope your virus has now passed and you are feeling better. Any news on the new plan of action the doc wants you to start? Praying for you to get guidance from Him. love ya big!
        Suzanne XXX

    • Oh Chris:
Bless your heart. You have so much going on I don’t know how YOU keep up with it. I pray your DH is doing better, that is not a good read. No wonder his head was hurting ! You take care of you or you will end up down and no one to take care of them !!
      God bless ya

      • Hi Chris, Tonie is right on. You have to take care of you. Sending you positive vibes and love.

  26. Hi all
    Quick note busy today
Had to go over to DD.then my dad
Well the physio went home with him and he nearly fell three times in his hallway. He said he wasnt safe to stay and he recommended he go back to rehab.dad wouldn’t, so they tried to get someone to stay the nite
To nurse him.he needs two to move ..but they got a nurse to Come at 9pm for an hour.,he is being assessed tomorrow They are keeping his bed there for 24hrs
.but he can’t stand up he’s too weak. Catheter in and he can only have hosp at home for 6 weeks.
He says he is weak becos of the rotten food in hosp and not eating and he will get better at home
But ..oh dear I just don’t know bladder infection as well…
DH bp seems to be comming down on new tab..but he has a stinking head with it…I was wondering Sue can he just take one every other day if it brings down his bp enough would it matter if it kept the side effects at bay so he could at least take something?
Got trouble every where I look at the moment…nice to get to bed and pull up the drawbridge!
Pumpkin waffles sound great.you make things so easy Tonie it’s as if you just magic them up fast ..have you started your new tabs yet
Sue hope the virus goes pretty dam quick
    All best to all Chris

  27. Well, this week has been “interesting” at the very least especially the last 36 hours. Cupid is now at the rainbow bridge with NanaBrenda’s Kodi bear. So hard to let your babies go but sometimes it can’t be helped. Pow is clingy and flirt, cupid’s first puppy from her first litter is too.
Dad’s urology appointment went well, NO PROBLEMS!!!!! dad is as happy as I am. I think he is having some dumping syndrome GI wise but only occasionally. Dad was afraid that the bloating he felt at times in his abdomen was urine retention but ultrasound says not. I think we’re both beyond relieved. I did a little more investigative work and as it happens on a fairly predictable basis especially after we have a breakfast get together, I think some of it is his coffee intake being excessive those days compared to his normal as well as a much larger and higher fat meal than he’s used to combining to make him uncomfortable.
I had a bit of a surprise in the mail today from the social security administration, they have reviewed my information (including what my lawyer had collected and sent) and the federal court reversed the state finding and they say I am qualified for SSD beginning my day of retirement 2 years ago. What I’ll get, when I get it I have no idea but they (SSA) pay my lawyer from my back pay and direct deposit to me. This may take another few months so I’m not getting my hopes up. The fact I had a paper trail (medical records), more than one rheumatologist evaluating (new doc 10 months ago) and already declared disabled by the office of personal management in Washington helped. Maybe Toni will be next fingers crossed.

    • Laura, How wonderful!! Lady, you are going to have some extra funds. I waited two years to apply for my social security disability and they also paid me for two past years, since I had not worked. That was back in the early 90’s yes of the 20th C., not the one before. It was an impressive sum. I think we all have hurt for you for all you’ve gone through in the last 6 years. What good news that your sweet Scottish Dad is doing well. That special breakfast does sound like cause for distress. I’ll chat with you tomorrow.

    • Bobsled:
So sad for your baby going over the bridge. She and Kodi will be romping it up together. I know the other dogs miss her as much as you, but they will help you to get through it. So HAPPY you got your approval ! I have to go before a judge this time so keep praying for me. You should get your pay in the next couple of months. It took my DIL about 3 months to get hers. She was getting her checks long before she got the back pay. Then again you may get your right now ! Hang in there
      Tonie

  28. JUST THOUGHT I WOULD LET ANY OF YOU WHO HAVE FOLLOWED THE STORY OF LITTLE HARRY, FROM THE UK WITH TERMINAL CANCER, HE IS DETERIORATING RAPIDLY, HE IS FIVE WITH A BUCKET LIST THAT IS GRADUALLY BEING FULFILLED. HE IS OFF TO LAPLAND TO SEE SANTA IN A FEW WEEKS, WE ARE ALL HOPING HE WILL MAKE IT, SO THOSE OF YOU….AND THERE WERE LOTS……WOULD SAY A PRAYER THAT HE MAKES IT IN TIME, HAVE MY GRATITUDE…….HE HAS NO IDEA PEOPLE FROM SO FAR AWAY KNOW ABOUT HIM, SO THANK YOU….JENNIE XXXXXXXX

    • Jennie, How wonderful for him and I will definitely pray this sweet angel gets to see Santa. Even seeing the reindeer will excite him. Back later..Love, Sue

    • Thank you Jennie for keeping us updated on little Harry. Oh I do hope he gets to see Santa and the reindeer..
Hope your day will be a good one.
      love ya big. Suzanne XXX

  29. Well, here we are almost at the end of another week. Someone posted on facebook that there are only SEVEN more Sat until Christmas !! WOW ! I have to get busy doing something ! Made me a pumpkin spice smoothie for breakfast and am going to work soon. Supposed to rain today. YUK! Miss that AZ sunshine Jo !
Judy is doing great. Her BP was way down yesterday when I visited, like 90/40, then it went down to 30 afterwards. The Dr was called and she was put on another plain ringers IV to open up her veins more and it brought it up. She has already asked when he could do the other one !! 🙂
Chris hope all is well with your Dad and DH. AND YOU !! Praying for you all, we all have so much to be thankful for, yet we all need prayers everyday to make it through.
BSL and Nana Brenda, I have been much in prayer over you two loosing your babies, for peace in your hearts. Good you have your others to soothe your soul !!
Jennie, Jo, Suzanne, Lyn, THeresa, Linda S, Oh and all you who are on here, I pray you have a wonderfully blessed day.
    Love
    Tonie

    • Time is flying by ,only 7 more Saturdays until Christmas. Wow, I will have to start wrapping my grandchildren’s presents cause everything seems to take me so long to do now. Hard to get use to that. Man of man it took me over a week to plant my bulbs when normally (well before this all started up) I would have been able to do it in a day. Oh well this is my new normal so I just have to adjust. Last year I wasn’t able to plant anything at all, so I will be thankful that I was able to this year.
Tonie, happy Judy is doing great.
You have a wonderful peaceful day. God bless!
      love ya
