IRITTABLE BOWEL; IRRITABLE YOU AND ME

Perhaps I should only speak for myself, about the irritable part, I mean.  There are very few discomforts in life which are more painful, consistently aggravating and mess with your social life as much as Irritable Bowel Syndrome.  For many of us it has changed our eating habits, infringed on our good natures and forced us to know where every bathroom is located within a five mile radius.  Stores, restaurants, rest stops, we got it covered if you ever want to know.

When I was in nursing school one of the instructors referred to the gastrointestinal system as “the tube within the tube.”  I don’t know why that stuck with me all these years.  I guess I’d never been called a tube before. So, how’s your tube?  Mine is much better these last few years but for most of my adult life I have suffered from chronic constipation or diarrhea, abdominal pain, heartburn and general dyspepsia.  What a great old-fashioned word dyspepsia is.

I have “gone the route,” with the x-rays, the barium swallows, the CT scans, the ultrasounds, the lab work, etc. The results for me were always inconclusive except for some diverticulum in the gut, which is fairly common, especially as one gets older.  It is little annoying pouches in the gut which can trap non-soluble fiber. These pouches trap and hold certain indigestible food particles such as corn fiber and seeds, causing the bowel to become overactive in an attempt to expel its contents or “cough it up” so to speak. If these pouches become inflamed you have diverticulitis which can be very painful and in extreme cases require surgical intervention. In recent years there have been those who say small seeds do not harm you but I continue to have problems with seeds such as strawberry, all other berries with large seeds and nuts if not chewed thoroughly.

In my life and body, the problem has usually been diagnosed as Irritable Bowel Syndrome/disease.  Not to be confused with the more life-threatening Crohn’s disease.  Don’t misunderstand me, IBS all by itself can certainly ruin your day.  Until I read everything I could get my hands on and started a great many modalities on my own, it was not at all uncommon to double over with pain, be totally unable to have a bowel movement and a couple of times, faint while sitting on the toilet.  The “john” is certainly no fainting couch and I am somewhat embarrassed to admit it to you but, in the interest of knowledge…

Many of us with a form of auto-immune disease have lousy mucosal lining, starting at the mouth and going all the way through to the exit.  Some of us also have Sjogren’s Syndrome with its accompanying dryness of eyes, nose and mouth. (That we’ll save for another blog.) Sometimes the mucosa is reacting to NSAID’s which most of us know can play havoc with the lining of the gut.  Many pain meds can slow down the peristalsis in the gut.  It helps to think of the little conveyor belt which constantly moves food and fluid along in the gut as “the wave.”  It’s either that or think of the last nature film you saw where a large boa constrictor swallowed another animal and you saw the ripples. See?  “Wave” sounds better.  The list of drugs which attacks the lining of the gut is long which is why we should each be informed as to what we take and its possible side effects.

Antibiotics can cause increased peristalsis because they kill off all the good bacteria in the “tube” causing the “wave” to get overly active.  Many of us found that replacing the bacteria with good bacteria, found in acidophilus, i.e. yogurt with active cultures and buttermilk, or taking the acidophilus liquid or gelcaps, helped the “wave” to calm down.  I think we should talk about all of these things, don’t you?

Since this blog is intended to be personal, I am going to work very hard not to sound like a nurse and to talk to you as Sue, the patient.  I think she’s probably a lot more interesting anyway.  The only advice I ever got, after a multitude of tests was, “keep up the fiber” and “here are some antispasmodic medications.”  When I ran a fever with a bout, I was given specific antibiotics which are designed to stay in the intestines to work their magic. I wasn’t getting the answers I needed on prevention.  I surmised the doctors didn’t have anything to tell me, so I went on a quest of my own.  After all, it is my body and I am in charge of my own life. It started to feel an awful lot like my body was calling the shots.

For several years I read everything I could on “natural medicine” not to imply that regular medicine is in any way “unnatural.”  I was just very frustrated because my life was still intolerable. Abdominal cramps that made my eyes bug out, a painful sitter which wasn’t doing a thing for my social life as well as a problem every time I was exposed to sunlight for more than 5 or 10 minutes. I also had pain in several other joints, including my cervical spine. I was sleeping in a cervical collar.  I found a pediatric collar the most comfortable, by the way.

I subscribed to a natural health magazine with a credible reputation and continued to read everything I could by Dr. Andrew Weil.  As an RN I felt comfortable with him because he is an MD, a Harvard graduate, who had the courage to look at medicine in a new light.  I thought I could use a new light because I was still in the dark.  Dr. Weil also made a great deal of sense to me. Aided and abetted by every dietician’s book I could find I also began to take a long, hard look at what I was eating. A great deal of what I read about IBS didn’t seem to apply for me so I had to test almost everything I ate to see what did work or did not.  I knew from my years in nursing that my “tube” was in chronic trouble and rule number one is to keep the tube functioning and clear.  My “wave” was churning away almost daily demanding some attention and I knew it had to be calmed.  Each day I would face either constipation or if I treated it what I began to call “jet diarrhea.” I couldn’t and still can’t seem to find a middle ground.

Here is the regimen I developed for myself, which has worked quite effectively for me for the last ten years, with only a few exceptional bouts of “eyes bugging out” episodes.

1.     I try to eat soluble fiber, which includes foods such as oatmeal, pasta, rice, potatoes, soy and barley.  Grains, particularly in breads are okay, but if they need grinding or I can’t chew them into a mash then they probably aren’t going to travel well.  Nuts are okay if I chew well.  Beans, peas and lentils leave a bit of skin so I watch the amounts of those foods. I do well with chicken, fish and lean pork.  Red meat creates some digestive upset for me. Maybe it’s all those bovine hormones?  I have a love-hate relationship with Psyllium/Metamucil.  Doesn’t everyone?  If I ever meet anyone who says, “Yum, love that psyllium,” I’m going to drag them to a psychiatrist. It works well for me and it has also proven to help with high cholesterol so I stuck with it for many years but now find I can’t tolerate it.  It is the most disgusting “gunk” but worth the few seconds of gagging if you can get it down.  The secret to getting it down is to be prepared to swallow it as soon as it is mixed because it begins to set up, much like wallpaper paste.  It is also a little more palatable in fizzy water such as seltzer, club soda, etc.  In the case of psyllium, some of the generic brands are just too unpalatable to be endured. Also, you don’t want to mix it with juice if you ever want to like that juice again.  It’s called aversion therapy and it works.  I make one exception to that rule.  When I’m in extreme trouble with constipation I mix what I call a “kamikaze cocktail” which is psyllium mixed in prune juice or cherry juice. Very effective. Psyllium is available in capsules but you have to take many and if you have dry throat and dry esophagus, you must be very careful and drink a lot of water. If you’re not careful you can get a “traffic jam” in your esophagus that is very uncomfortable and dangerous.

2.     Daily exercise. I have all these memories of the surgical unit at the hospital when we dragged those poor surgical patients out of bed to parade up and down the hallway.  It’s a must to get the system back on line by moving the abdominal muscles. Unfortunately, the whole body is a package deal. You know, the old song, “The hip bone connected to the back bone, etc.” In this case, the abdominal muscles connected to the leg and hip muscles all help the little train we call the bowels to function. Chuga, chuga.

3.     Drink plenty of fluids. Just keep in mind that alcohol and coffee can overly stimulate the “wave.” They can cause cramping. Each of us reacts differently to caffeine.  My husband worked the night shift for years and could drink hospital coffee (think spoon standing alone thick and dark), come home in the morning and have another cup and go right to sleep.  I am extremely sensitive to caffeine.  I limit myself to one cup per day, in the a.m. I tried to kick the habit completely but found the mornings too joyless.  This includes regular teas, (therefore I look for the herbal varieties), chocolate and many soft drinks.  Read labels. I buy natural, zero calorie sparkling water by the case at Costco. I drink it all day long.  Have to keep the tube lubricated and moving.

4.     Dairy works for me.  I know there are many folk out there who cannot tolerate dairy.  Lactose intolerance is rampant.  There are tablets and special milks available.  There are drops to add to your milk. My gut, both the tube and the wave, seem to like yogurt, buttermilk, cream soups, cottage cheese and other cheeses. If your wave gets too much motility when faced with these items, there is always…drum roll…soy.  I know, manly folks cringe at the word but it is everywhere and some of it isn’t bad. The soy cheese and milks are quite good. Just be sure you are getting enough Vit. D3, Magnesium and calcium if you have no dairy in your diet. I have found, for me, that.three Colase each evening along with Magnesium keep things rolling along. In a pinch, I drink a mixture of white grape juice and cherry juice. One can only tolerate so much prune juice.

5.     There are a few herbs I have come to know and love. Slippery elm bark is my favorite.  It’s an old Indian remedy and for me, it does soothe the gut. It’s available in tea, capsules or a powder you mix with food. It does taste like you’re drinking the bark of a tree, because it is; that’s why I stick to the capsules. That’s not surprising. Good old-fashioned peppermint is another staple for me.  I drink the tea (be sure it’s caffeine free), chew on mints, and for those occasional fierce bouts of IBS, I get myself down to the health food store and buy enteric coated peppermint capsules.  They dissolve once they reach the gut. Be forewarned it does burn a bit on the way out.  I also like aloe vera gel.  The juice is acidic and too disgusting but there is a gel cap on the market. Be sure you don’t buy the latex and leaf variety because that works as a laxative, (quite well I might add and I have taken it for that purpose) but the gel caps are very soothing.  I had used aloe vera for years on burns, etc. and when I read the recommendation I thought, well, why not give it a try? Probiotics are a must for a healthy gut, especially those which contain Bifidum.

6.     Eat the right food.  I have to avoid too much of any extremes such as hot salsa, Chinese mustard, horseradish.  If it burns my mouth it is probably going to burn my gut. I try to keep it mild, natural and simple. We never know how the chemicals and additives in our food are going to affect us, so be careful and eat as if you’re on the farm.  If I do have a bout my personal favorites hark back to childhood.  They are homemade potato soup and my Mom’s recipe for homemade noodles cooked with boneless chicken breasts.  I also like boiled pasta, such as good Italian spaghetti prepared with a few herbs, olive oil with a touch of butter with a few mushroom slices and served after quickly being tossed with Parmesan cheese. I could live on all of those and sometimes do. I have decided I have to be kind to my gut and it will be kind to me.  I recommend to you that you test what works for you and what doesn’t, avoid. Happy tubing or should I say waving?

Please be reassured, if you are a fellow IBS patient, you are not the only one who carries extra pads and an extra pair of underwear in your purse, can make more noise than the horn section of the Marine Marching Band and always makes appointments in the afternoon in order to spend mornings at home, near the toilet. We adapt, yes, we adapt because we must.

  1. Thank you Sue for that Blog. It really opened my eyes to some things I didn’t know about. I have eaten a lot of yogurt but slowed down recently. I will get back in my habit of eating it more again. I really like the Greek yogurt. Is it better than regular yogurt? I started using almond and almond coconut milk 6 months ago and it is good and works for my stomach. I am slowly learning what I can tolerate and what I can’t. I love potato soup and pasta with butter. I will start adding a little olive oil.
I thank you so much for sharing this information with all of us. I have learned a lot. I hope you are feeling much better. We all love you and appreciate all the blogs you share with us. Get some rest. It is 9:43 PM here in NC. So I am going to get ready for bed and try and get warm. This farm house is cold even with the temperature being close to 70 for a couple of days and the heat on. I hope Tonie enjoys her time with her family where it is warm. All the rest of my friends on here, stay warm and well. I know some of you have snow and some of you don’t so whatever the weather is doing where you are, please be careful. LOVE and HUGS to all of you. Sleep well. Donna. PS That goes for you too Sue!

    • Donna, how important it is for each of us to know ourselves. We are each so different. I think that’s why so many doctors, even GI guys, don’t know much about IBS. Many believe stress is involved. I do not. For me it is truly a matter of keeping the bowel emptied in a reasonable amount. When I get constipated, for instance from a rare pain pill, then I get into trouble. As far as what we can tolerate, that seems to vary. I have read that most Greek yogurt does have more lactobacillus and calcium content. Probably varies on brand. Stay warm now and hope you keep the milder weather. Being chilled all the way through is such a miserable thing, isn’t it? Glad you found this blog productive. Love, Sue

  2. Oh dear Sue. This hits home so much for me of late. My IBS is mostly the not constipated type and I carry immodium everywhere now. I suspect it may partially due to systemic psoriasis (not uncommon to occur in the colon) as well as medication side effects and Sjogrens. It has made me arrange my life based on the level of cramps at any given time. It’s at best embarrassing and although I’ve not fainted I have had vagal responses more often than I would like. I’ve told both my PCP and Rheumy who acknowledge the issue but as I decline a colonoscopy (don’t think I’d survive the prep) they have little to offer. Taking so many medications all with the potential for diarrhea it’s just become another facet of my interesting life. It could at least let me lose weight but no…. Oh well it could be worse.

    • Laura, I’m with you on the colonoscopy. Never again. Won’t even go into the horrors of it for those of us with IBS. As far as wearing pads, I have found the longer the better, for protection but when I’ve been down so much lately with the fractured vertebra, I had to be careful. They can cause bed sores due to the plastic on them. It’s always something isn’t it? Love the Prep. H wipes, Cottonelle wipes and a prescription steroid suppository and Proctocort RX creme. I know what you mean about the social aspects and empathize with it completely. There is still nothing better than a hot shower. Can’t get in and out of a tub anymore unfortunately. Wish we had a place for one of those walk-in tubs but don’t. Tread onward my dear and hug your 90 lb. puppy for me. Love her and you, Sue

  3. Dear Sue, Fascinating how we can be the same in so many ways yet so different in others. I have the same problems of constipation and diarhea, but my answers are entirely different. As I have diabetes type 2 your diet would send my blood glucose sky high. Juices, pasta, rice, potatoes are all no nos for me. I use dried fruits, raisins, apples, apricots and your dreaded metamucil. It is a real balancing act to keep things on the right path. It helps to find out that I am not alone with this problem, it’s so embarrassing at times. Thank you. Janet

    • Janet, I know. It truly is important for each of us to find our own way. It’s necessary and vital based on the whole picture. None of us have just that problem it seems. Hope you’re doing as well as possible dear Texas friend. Love you, Sue

    • Pommum, thanks. Hope you have a wonderful visit with your company. I know it will be emotional and also a blessing. Love, Sue

  4. Great blog and so interesting to read all the comments as well
It really heightens what we have to do to keep ourselves going……wrong word there!!
I keep off all nuts and berries and sweet corn ,blueberries ,raspberries .etc, and I love them as well.even have seedless jams( jellies,I think).even watch the filling in cakes..blimin nuisance this diver
Unfortunately I have to have colonoscopies every 3 yrs as I have those polysps that can change and it does cause havoc

Laura…I didn’t know you had sjogrens too
At the moment I’m taking tabs for the top end and bottom end and one upsets the other as well as the sjogrens.
    Hope all getting along good,
    Chris

    • Chris, how truthful your comments. Hope it was a bit of help and I think you’d be surprised how many of us suffer along with you. Sorry you have to have colonoscopies so often due to those darn polyps. Not everyone with IBS has diverticulum, thankfully. That makes it kind of a double whammy. Hope all is as well as possible with your Dad and DH, as well as you. Love, Sue

  5. IBS….YUK, HAD IT SINCE I WAS FIFTEEN, WHY DOES EVERYTHING GET WORSE AS YOU GET OLDER….WISH IT WOULD JUST BOG OFF.
BIG DAY NEXT TUESDAY, THE APPOINTMENT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR IS NEARLY HERE, EYES BEEN SO BAD, THEY ARE NOW RED AND SWOLLEN MOST OF THE TIME, AND THE MONTHLY ATTACKS HAVE BECOME WEEKLY……HOPE THE EYE DOC CAN COME UP WITH SOMETHING, CAN’T HOLD OUT WITH THIS MUCH LONGER………….I AM SURE OTHERS HAVE MORE THAN ME TO COMPLAIN ABOUT………………………MUCH LOVE……JENNIE X

    • Jennie, I know how miserable that can be having your eyes so reddened and sore. Hang in there gal and we understand if you’re off the computer more. I pray the eye doctor will give you some answers and most definitely drops to sooth your poor eyes. I has an effect on everything, I know. Rest with a cool cloth on them and know we love you. Sue

  6. ANOTHER GREAT BLOG SUE WITH LOTS OF INFO. I REMEMBER TAKING THE KAMIKAZE COCKTAIL, WOW DID THAT EVER HELP ME. STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH THAT END OF MY BODY. NO LONGER ALLOWED TO TAKE METAMUCIL AS THE DOC GAVE ME PILLS TO HELP WITH THE CONSTIPATION, BUT DOESN’T HELP ALL THE TIME AND STILL HAVE EYE BUGGING MOMENTS. LIFE?
JENNIE POO, HANG IN THERE SWEETIE YOU WILL SOON SEE THE DOC.
CHRIS YOU TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF.
OKAY FADING NOW. TO EVERYONE ELSE LIFE DOES GO ON DOESN’T IT.
LOVE TO ALL ON THIS BLOG.
    GOD BLESS.

    • Suzanne, Glad you liked the info and hope you aren’t having too many of those eye bugging moments. How are things going with your dear aunt? Are you still terribly busy going here and there for her. You are so kind. Love, Sue

  7. Well got the biopsies back
    They were clear
Also when I saw Dr. with ibs probs..but discharge ..so she thinks I’ve got uterine polyps again… Have the dragging pain that I had before..so have to have an Ultra sound. So also waiting for a chest scan with contrast as well for the cough
    Does it ever go!…..?
Sorted dad out with a smaller slower scooter…and also been round to sort out his paper work
He has trouble with the other neighbour who keeps popping in and saying how short of money she is …my dad gave her money once and she keeps barging in and saying stuff and he is worried. So I have to tell the warden tomorrow ….

    • Jennie, so good to hear from you but a bummer about your cold. Even if you have to wear a sterile mask you can make it to the eye doctor, right? I know how much you’ve been suffering and think of you each day. Rest well and do drink lots of fluids, okay? Love you, Sue

  8. Jen
You keep wrapped up and warm..you’ll be Good for Tuesday
Perhaps that’s why you’ve been so bad in the week
Yep will ring and say to blame it on me ,,that I’m worried.that keeps my dad out of it..he is worried

Hope all ok and tonie enjoying her trip
    Lyn
    U good?
    Sue
    How’s it goin?
    Chris

    • Chris, doesn’t that rile you up though? We have to watch out for the old folks and remember when we’re in that spot. We had trouble a couple of years back with Jim’s uncle. The woman who ran his rest home tried to get on his bank account. Thankfully the bank manager called us because Jim was already on it. Then I recall all the precious jewelry Jim’s Mom had ripped off by her home nurses aid, like her wedding ring, gold cross and watch and who knows what else. That’s the lowest form of theft I think to take advantage of the elderly. She sounds quite experienced. I know you’re capable of kicking her in the tush so you go girl.
As far as your scan results dear girl, good news on one hand but as far as the uterine polyps returning not good. I am saddened to hear that. No, I have decided it never stops and just keeps coming the older we get. It seems we are not at all recyclable in this world who thinks only of that…we just plain wear out. It is so good to hear from you and Jennie. I have been worried about both of you. Glad you got to the shed. Hope the new phone works. How is progress going on your projects under warranty over there? Your village sounds so lovely.
I am slowly sliding along still too much pain in the shoulder and back to stand for long but very slowly seem to be getting more done each day. Have a nice chicken stew on the stove for dinner, a steak for Jim who only eats fried chicken so more for me. Much love, Sue

      • Hi Sue….despite feeling crap, going shopping with DH, cos if I don’t he will come back with all the wrong stuff….don’t worry, if I have to turn up in scrubs and an aqua lung, I will keep that bloody appointment…….hope you are ok…..love Jen.

    • Chris,……Tell the woman your Dad is in hiding from the police, and she should stay away or she will be aiding and abetting…..he he!! that might see her off with a flea in her ear……….mind you she sounds a bit thick skinned huh??
Hide his money, tell her the real stuff in hidden under the floorboards, she might attempt to look, then you can have her for criminal damage…………just a thought. xx Jen xx

  9. Well told the warden and she has had a word with her
SO when I next go around we’ll see what happens
But as the warden says my dad is not independent and he is in an independent inviroment and he has to watch out for himself and not give money. She’s right….he can’t walk at all now no strength in legs can only walk with walker a few steps but takes ages and he can’t speak properly.
well will have to see how it goes and sort it out as it happens. Am ready for it at any rate?
    Chris

    • Chris, I’m glad the deed is done now to see if it works. It is so difficult for all of you, I know. Your Dad is fairly defenseless so let’s hope the moocher got a bit frightened. I know it’s hard for you to go into his place due to the menthol and that makes it even harder for you to watch over him. My heart aches for you and for him in this difficult situation. Love you, Sue

  10. Jennie, I understand the shopping. I haven’t been since my fx of the back and Beth and Jim have done it all. I have compromised on much but that is hard on both of them, too, I know. I just can’t stand for any length of time without severe pain in back and legs. I look forward to doing it myself soon, I hope. I know you’ll definitely make that appt. after this long wait and all you’ve been through. I hope the days pass quickly and your cold dries up. Love, Sue

    • SUE….YES I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT THE STANDING IN THE SHOPS, WHEN YOU HAVE TO HANG ON TO THE CHECKOUT COUNTER, FEELING LIKE A RIGHT NUT JOB, PEOPLE STARING…HATE THAT.
SOMETIMES I HAVE TO GET THE KEYS OFF MY DH AND GO SIT IN THE CAR WHILE HE PAYS UP.
HOW IS GOING WITH YOU MY FRIEND, ARE YOU ABLE TO GET OUT YET, OR IS IT STILL TOO SOON?? i HOPE YOU ENJOY A PEACEFUL WEEKEND…..WITH LOVE…JENNIE XX

      • Jennie, Think I’ll answer you first due to the time difference. Want to catch you before you go to bed. Always good to hear from you dear friend. Yes, shopping is cruel and I used to love it but of course, that can be said for many things. I have a doctor’s appt. Mon. so will get out. Haven’t driven yet but may try this weekend. I am better but still can’t stand for more than 15 mins. without immense pain. We will see what my family practice doc has to say. This fx has taken so much longer than the last to heal. Still limited as to what I can do with left arm and shoulder. Makes getting down on the floor to clean anything impossible when it comes to getting back up. I’m very frustrated and comforted only by the fact that so many of my friends have challenges and I am not alone. So many do not truly understand what it is to live like this. Hope your kids are doing well. How is it going at Tim’s job? Hope DH is okay. Love to Sacha and much reserved for yourself sweet lady. Sue

  11. Well this lady walked past the neighbour who helps him without speaking in the hallway
So..the warden did speak to her in general terms.so she must be feeling chastised and it hit the spot
The warden just said I want his door locked and to just leave the key in the locks safe on the door.
And only the carer and some others to know the number as he is so vunerable and who knows who is about…yea Jen I think she us thick skinned
So if she sees me and walks past..well good
Didn’t get to coast DH not too good and this thing with dad took over..so going tomorrow ….fingers crossed
Jen how’d your shopping go and your cold…
    Sue
Is your back better than it was….praps come the nice weather you can sit out in the porch you have such a good view there….you must be feeling so trapped . It’s time for summat new and good
Well going out to a friends Tonite and shed tomorrow if I’m awake I’ll be here to post, if,not tomorrow nite
    Chris

    • Chris, Sorry DH isn’t doing well. He has such a challenge, or should I say challenges. Hope he’s better soon and will feel like going to the shed tomorrow. This situation with your Dad is so upsetting, I’m sure and takes a toll on both of you, surely. Yes, let’s hope the neighbor who talks your Dad into or out of his funds does walk past you in the corridor. Hideous behavior on her part. Pray this is the end of it. Locking the door sounds good as long as someone can get in there if he has a crisis of some kind. Boy, this getting old is definitely not for sissies, huh? Feeling that myself lately. Yes, my back is better but far from good. Think I will have to see another specialist. See the family practice doc on Monday. Hope you some rest and can now put this behind you. Love, Sue

    • HI CHRIS………..JUST ABOUT MANAGED THE SHOPPING, NEVER BEEN SO GLAD TO GET HOME AND GET THE FIRE LIT…..FEEL REALLY ROUGH, DON’T THINK THE FLU JAB WORKED TOO WELL THIS YEAR, I COULDN’T LIFT MY HEAD OFF THE PILLOW THIS MORNING…..STILL ITS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD, IT WILL GO.
HOW IS IT GOING WITH THAT AWFUL WOMAN, I HOPE THE WARDEN IS KEEPING AN EYE ON YOUR DAD…HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND LOVE….TAKE CARE….LOVE JEN XX

  12. Hi all … my friends are here and there has been a few tears, but we haven’t made it to the Love Lock Bridge yet … that will be on Valentines Day… how more romantic can you get? I was shopping for a few moments on Tues with them but I can barely walk due to pain that feels like it was in my left hip. I finally saw my rheumy yesterday who had my recent x rays and said my back is in horrendous shape and that he was quite sure there is a pinched nerve causing all my back/hip pain and ordered an MRI! He acknowledged that he had a copy of the MRI of my C spine and I told him I was waiting to see a neurosurgeon so he never even examined my neck, but he did check my reflexes. He changed my biologic to the very last one available at this time due to some joint activity and new nodules and signs of vasculitis … so that is about it! I will be back later …..
    Love and Hugs ~PM Brenda.

    • Pommum, I am so empathetic to what you’re going through with your back and know about that hip pain from the back as well. It stinks. Hope the new med works for you to give you some relief.
So pleased you are having such a good time with your company and know they are, also. Thinking of you and think an MRI is a great idea. Much love and prayers, Sue

  13. Sue, I didn’t know you also can’t use the bath tub! I bought a bath lift several years ago but it was cheaply made for the money and is not working at the moment! I have a story about Imodium. My friend got travellers diarrhea in Cuba and not wanting to spoil their vacation took Imodium. It worked so well that several weeks later it was still working and she was in agony. She made several visits to her doctor and then the ER and surgery was even being considered when finally they gave her one last very hot 3H enema and she had relief …. so I do not use Imodium but keep it on hand for my son who has UC. My friends have been out and about the last two days without me but I had shown them how to get to where they wanted to go and where to park and they seem to be managing quite well. Our little furkids are behaving very well considering their space has been invaded by three other Poms. My pain is so severe I can barely walk so much of my time is being spent in bed with my heating pad but at night we have watched a movie together. Tomorrow I must somehow make it up the Love Lock Bridge! Our company have tickets to an ice show tomorrow night.Something has definitely happened in my back so I hope I am called soon for the MRI and it shows the problem and that I can be helped!. The side effects of my new drug are kinda scary but I know people who are taking it with no side effects at all. Must go…love and prayers to everyone … PM Brenda

    • POMMUM….I FEEL FOR YOU WITH ALL YOUR PAIN, AND I HOPE YOU MAKE IT TO YOUR ROMANTIC SPOT, IT SOUNDS LOVELY….TAKE CARE OF YOUR BACK MY FRIEND, AND I PRAY THE MRI APPOINTMENT COMES SOON FOR YOU……..LOVE JENNIE XX

    • PM Brenda, I have thought of you so often lately, wondering how you are managing with your company. I’m certain they are having a wonderful visit and understand. As far as tubs, we looked into the walk-in tubs but don’t have room for one in either bathroom so for now I settle for a chair in the shower. One does what one has to, huh?? Life seems, some days to be one compromise after another and I know you understand when I say it gets so tiresome. One day at a time is all we can ask for right now as we both wait for answers and more tests. Rest well dear girl and hope you feel up to today’s festivities. Thinking of you with love, Sue

      • PM Brenda, P.S., meant to comment on the Immodium story. I’ve never heard anything like that about Immodium and have taken it for years. Sue

  14. Hi everybody, I have been reading everybody’s post and find it amazing that so many of us have the same problems and use the same medicines. I have more constipation than diarrhea. Sue I understand he part about fainting. I have never fainted but fly like it was going t to happen and couldn’t stop it. I became so hot and sweaty and red face one minute and freezing and chills needing a towel or blanket the next. Horrible feeling. If I could get to my walker I could get my HYOSCYAMINE and feet some relief very quickly. Fort me, it is a miracle drug. I am so sorry it is so drying out for you Sue and I believe Chris might have said the same thing. I can put one , I don’t even have to use 2, under my tongue and almost immediately the pains and bowel cramps are gone. Praise God! No one but those who have a problem with IBS can even begin to understand how horrible it can be.
I hope everyone’s problems and needs are working out for the good and things are calming down. Chris, I hope things work out ok with your dad and I hope you get to go to the Shed. I hope any physical needs begin to heal quickly for you. LOVE YOU and praying.
Pommum, I am glad your friends got there safely and are having a good time. I really hope you get to go with them to the LOVE LOCK BRIDGE. I know it is important to you and Bella’s mom to do this. I think it is precious. If you can’t go, please know your body needs rest and to be in the warm. I know your friends will understand. I pray that you soon get some answers and healing. Just know we all love you and are praying for you.
Jennie, I pray for your cold to heal and there won’t be any issues with the trip to the eye doctor. I pray the doctor finds exactly what is wrong and has a way of getting your eyes healed quickly. We all are praying and sending LOVE and HUGS.
I pray for Tonie to have a safe trip home and I know she had a great time.
Suzanne, Janet and Laura, I pray for the three of you that each day will be better than the day before. All illnesses and other problems will all work out with the grace of God and by His hand. We all love you and send Hugs!!. That goes for Sue and Lyn. We love you and send you Hugs!!
NOW/ HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU!! I love you all. You will never know how much you all mean to me. I hope I did not miss anyone. If I did, please forgive me. Remember my Kindle Fire tends to change my words sometimes. I f that happens when hope you can figure out what I was trying to say.
    Donna

    • DONNA….YOU ARE SUCH A KIND AND THOUGHTFUL PERSON…….I WILL GET TO THAT DOCTOR COME WHAT MAY, FEELING LIKE I HAVE FLU, HEAVY LIMBS AND ALL THAT STUFF, NOT TO WORRY, KEEPING WARM AND DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS……HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO YOU TOO….MUCH LOVE JENNIE XX

    • Donna, wishing you a pleasant Valentine’s Day, also. Yes, we do share many of the same problems and I guess it would only be natural we should be on some of the same drugs. I like hyocyamine and find it helpful when I need it but also find Immodium can clear up cramps, taken in moderation. My IBS has always taken the form of constipation but when I take anything for it, I often need to stop it with an anti-spasmodic; always two extremes. Take good care of yourself and know we are thinking of you, also. Love, Sue

  15. Hello, All! I’m sorry, I was away longer than I had thought, but I am now caught up. It seems like the days have been getting away from me lately. Also been busy with some things around here. We are still trying to get one last estimate on doing our stair steps. This is the guy we’d like to do them as he could do all portions himself, but he’s not very prompt in getting back to us. Meanwhile, the last month or so we noticed a musty smell seeming to come from our heating vents and suspected our humidification system that is tied into our furnace was to blame. We suspected mold, and had our furnace people out – nothing – then looked into people who specialize in cleaning duct work. DH contacted 3 companies and 2 sent out reps to do an estimate. Of course, that meant lots of cleaning and straightening up on my part. We arranged for one to come and do the cleaning. That meant making sure everything was away from all vents and air returns. Plenty of things needed to be moved – DH helped. The cleaning was done Thursday with no mold spotted, but they did fog the vents with anti-microbial. It’s been better since, so hopefully that did the trick. Now I’ll need to see to getting external humidifiers. Oh brother. Anyway, as I said, busy. Weather has been getting nasty. This weekend very cold, maybe some snow, definitely high winds and low wind chills on the way. Hit me like a ton of bricks last evening so I took it easy today.

Chris, that wretched woman! I do hope the warden’s little talk keeps her in line. Lowest of the low, preying on the elderly, the weak, and the defenseless.

    Jennie, hang in there!

Pommum, I know today will be difficult for you. Praying for comfort and strength.

Blessings and a very Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone!

    • Lyn, so sorry for all the hoopla around the house. Cleaning and spraying the system vents, oh my. I can only imagine the mess and all the extra work for you. Some event like that can be so very tiring, I know. We have things that need doing around here but I don’t even want to call the guys…don’t want to be bothered. I’ve been following your FB and know how much cold and fierce wind you’ve been having. Doesn’t seem to bother Sadie much, however. Glad DH got home safely last night. Scary when the driving conditions are that bad, huh? What a winter it’s been for so many millions. We have been very fortunate thus far with a mild yet wet one.
Good to hear from you and hope it warms up very soon. Love ya, Sue

  16. Hi all !
Just popping in to say I am home !! What an adventurous drive from NC !! But I am home cuddled in bed with my boys and waiting to wear down from the travel. I will catch up tomorrow !
    Love to all
    Tonie

  17. Well, got a few great hours of sleep in my comfort zone. Had to get up and feed this am, I hate to think they have no water when they wake up. COLD here with frigid wind chills and a skift of snow on the ground. I choose to drive home last night rather than spend another night away. The wind gusts were pretty bad, driving with both hands (stiff upper back and sore this am) but nothing any worse than I drove in Az for years (bad wind storms in the desert). All fine , light traffic. Then when I get to the Va state line, there was snow. Up the mountain and more snow, then like night and day it was pretty bad. A couple of cars ditched, but I hit my low 4 wheel drive button and made my way slowly down to my exit. From there to home it was a winter wonderland, only passed two cars the entire time. Classical music on the radio and the good Lord as my co-pilot I made it home.
WOnderful blog Sue. I have the constipation prob and you have shared many of these remedies with me which I use. I have my colonoscopy coming up the 25th. Just got test results back, all my cholesterol is off. HIGH. So we’ll see what she is wanting to do with that. UGH but the Hem A1C was great, which I knew it would be. My numbers are always good on non fasting tests, not sure why she insisted on that test. I have a mammo to schedule this week, I visit the cardiologist on Wed, all from the PCP visit. VERY tired, going to take a nap here soon.
I had a great visit with the kids and got to love on my sweet little great grandson. Such a sweet happy little boy. I saw my sweet Millie and Bill (she said to tell you all hello, and giver her love) They are getting on in years and it hurts to see them so. But they are home and together, so good things. Bill gave me his old spurs and a nice bridle, Millie a beautiful teacup and saucer of hers, and a suitcase to carry it home in 🙂 A bittersweet visit, for who knows if we will ever meet again in this world. Well I will shut up for now. The animals were all glad to see Mama home !
Love you all, will talk to you more later
    Tonie

    • Glad your home safely. My last A1C was also non-fasting. My son told me that’s the way they are doing it now.
Waiting for more pictures of your trip on FB. Your grands are all so beautiful. Take care and rest up now. Love, Janet

    • Tonie, good to know you’re home safely after a treacherous trip from the airport in a snowstorm…oh my. Thank the Lord for your four wheel drive, right? Whoosh, what a trip. Glad the visits in AZ went well. Sounds like the grands are all doing well, and the great grand, wonderful. Babies are just so marvelous. Glad you got to see your old friends Millie and Bill. Know they’re having it rough and sorry to hear that about such sweet folks.Did you surprise them?
Well, I’m sure they’ll check out that high cholesterol business. The rules on diet with that condition seem to change every month. No eggs, now eggs, etc. By the way, hope those eggs you have from the chicks weren’t frozen. Sounds like the pups were undoubtedly pleased to see you and probably stuck like glue. Rest now and let us know more later. Love to you, Sue

  18. Hi all
Got a cold and blimmin sore throat,DH too
Went to shed and sorted out a few things yesterday ,didn’t stay long had lunch out and came back
Got back and you know I had three scooters come for my dad a few days ago to try…he chose one and kept and they took his old one
Well….he doesn’t like it! So I had to understand why as well… you know..can’t understand him
So I had to leave a message on the shops phone sat. Nite to ring me monday…that’s twice Theyve had this prob with him ..I don’t know if they will take it back now and if they’ve still got his other one
So on Monday I have to take our car in for he boot to be fixed on the ins….then got to go over to GS to organise the ins on his mobile as its in my name,in order to get a new one for him
Then also this scooter thing and ..Hes got a catalogue from another shop for another one for me to go and find out about
DH is fed up..as am I …can’t get anything done or sorted..along with our own med probs..I sometimes wonder how I will get to the shed at all
    Jen
I’ve got your cold….hope you are up to Tuesday with it
    Tonie
Good to hear you and that you enjoyed it all …I must have got it wrong ,I thought you went by air
    You still looking into moving?
    Back laterer
    Chris

    • Chris, I know you’re the adult in your family right now but there comes a point when your own needs aren’t met and you have to draw that old line in the sand. Maybe if the scooter place won’t take your Dad’s new scooter back he will have to keep it and that will be that. I understand how much you care but there’s a fine line between caring and killing yourself. Sorry to hear you both are infected right now. My youngest GS has had it quite badly.
Tonie was talking about the drive from the airport to home. She did fly to AZ. Boy, all of our friends in the East are having a devil of a time with the cold, wind and snow. Hope you are warm and toasty inside and pray you get well enough to get away from all of the demands. Thinking of you and love you. You’re a dear thing who needs to put herself first sometimes. Sue

    • Chris I did go by air, but the airport I went from is 100 miles away ( I live in the boonies). I left my truck at my son’s house who lives near the airport. I am only swapping out homes, getting rid of this one and getting an updated larger one. Hope you get all your stuff sorted out.
      Love
      TOnie

  19. Lyn
I do hope all that work didn’t cause too much mess,Altho I expect it did and all that mess
I can never let it go either and leave it wait to be done….I wish I could, some can..sometimes I admire that in a wierd way!
Like sue we have stuff that needs doing and I just can’t start it and hope I don’t need too and it will last
    Sue
I know you are right…but I know the shop will ring me tomorrow ..and the outcome will as you say be what it will…..my dad wanted me to go and discuss more scooters with him today..but I did say What with having to sort out this mobile today I bought and the car and GS tomorow..well I think it sunk in.
Mind you I don’t want to give him this cold either so all will have to wait.
Your right I know, but it’s so..well you just feel guilty or not coming up to the mark
But he has got so used to me being here all the tine I think a few days a time at the shed will be it..not just that either, he has got worse
I did have a good nite out with 3 friends at one house ..a good laugh….one is an historian ,the other stands for the one of the political parties and the other…………?Was a chicken sexer!
So the conversation was magic and funny…and did so lighten things.we were rude ,gossipy and loud
All just Four of us……so Havent done that for a while.we had a fire lit in this old little cottage and candles just for us 4girls….and bits to eat and drink……I needed that.no holes barred
Well try and get some sleep gotta get up and going in the morning..look forward to,seeing GS tho
    Chris

    • Chris, Your day out with the girlfriends, or should I say day in sounds like such fun. We all need that from time to time. Dear lady, you just have to do what gives you peace with your Dad. No regrets but you can’t let him hurt you and your life. Your cold is a natural protection right now. I know you want to do what’s best but sometimes the elderly get a bit self-centered due to their isolation and fear. I know you will do what gives you peace and helps him the most without going too far. Hope the bad neighbor stays away from him. Sleep well dear girl.
My humidifier wasn’t working last night so I have a dry, burnt throat today…thankfully got it up and running again this afternoon. Oh this blasted Sjogren’s. Later, Love, Sue

    • Brenda, good to hear from you. Sorry you battle IBS as well. Some of us find so many challenges, don’t we? The biggest challenge is letting them fail to interfere in our enjoyment of life. Big mountain to climb some days, huh? Fondly, Sue

  20. Well
Managed to get a new mobile(cellphone )for my GS..and for my dad’s old scooter back and they just charged Him £25 for admin fees and got all money back..which is good as he’s has used it
But he has done this twice to them and they were so good about it.but said they have done all they can for him now ,so tried to ring my dad to say I have changed the ins back for him…phone off the hook all afternoon, rang nice neighbour ,not in. So rang his life line people. They told him to put phone bak on…nowt happening ..so got thru to neighbour she was in and she went and put it on
    So all sorted
Took the car in to have new boot lid and got hire car
So………exausted and so we are going to shed tomorrow ,it gives sushine all the way..and we will go around the coast ..DH take photos…and have a picnic in the car and a thermos…and try and forget it all
    My mind is racing
Raining here and cold..my sore throat has broken into,a cold….I’m still goin away
    Tonie
All clear now..I got it……when do you think you mite move? Exciting…
    Jen
    Thinkin of you tomorrow
    Chris

      • Jennie, well, the fateful eye doctor’s appt. is inching closer. Know you’ll get some useful info. If he doesn’t want to breathe your germs then HE can mask. Thinking of you and all you’ve been through. Much love, Sue

    • Oh Chris, so many frustrations. I’m so pleased you both are getting away for awhile to the shed. Sounds like the scooter guy was very decent about it. Good. Thanksgiving for the good neighbor, huh?
Glad GS is all set up with a new phone. You are getting so much accomplished. Then you’ll have a loaner car for the trip? Traveling safeties and take care with that cold. Thinking of you and hope you have some down time to relax. Love you, Sue P.S. The ocean view trip sounds so nice.

  21. Hey all:
Busy day. Chris, glad you got it all sorted out. It is amazing to see how many of you are troubled by IBS. I have something, but not sure what. It is so awesome how the Lord has given us Sue to bring us all together to help one another ain’t it ? All the little things add up.
I spent the day mostly out in the cold. Got out and fed, had to carry water because of the frozen water hose. Then off to check on Fran’s house and to the stores. I found hay at the feed store, so got 10 bales of that. Only 5 today cause it is all my truck would hold. Chicken feed, horse feed, then to the grocery for my stuff. Then home to unload it all and feed again, and water. I was so tired after being out in the cold like that. Now we are snowed in for the night. Supposed to get 6-8 inches in our area. Thursday is supposed to be so cold -7. which is really bad for us. Keeping the hens in the house and the horse plenty of hay. Have to haul out the insulated coveralls in the am when I go feed. I should have stayed another week in Az 🙂 Naw, I needed to be here to take care of my peeps.
Janet, I will put more pics on FB soon. I haven;t even finished unpacking yet 🙂
I took a long nap this afternoon, but am still tired. Hope you all stay warm and cozy. Lord bless us and keep us safe.
    Love
    Tonie

    • Hi all, Chris ,so glad you got things all worked out. Try and get some rest at the shed. Let this be your time. Sue hope you are doing ok. Jennie, well Tuesday is almost here. I pray the eye doctor can find out what the problem is and it is a simple fix.
Tonie, what a difference in the weather you left in AZ to what you came home to. Yes we are going to get the artic cold too. I was hoping for snow here but it seems like all we are getting is rain and ice. That is always scary for power outages. I have prayed about it as I am on oxygen and if it goes out I will have to come back downstairs to my oxygen tanks. We have gas heat and it doesn’t work without electricity. We can light the stove manually and have a little heat in the kitchen. So please all of you pray that doesn’t happen. Tonie, please wrap up tomorrow. Everybody take care and try and stay warm. LOVE and hugs, Donna

      • Donna, special prayers that you will be okay and that your power stays on. I know those ice storms can be very scary. We have those here on occasion and things do pop. It will be okay dear girl, it will be okay. Love, Sue

    • Tonie, Oh my, what a day. You must be exhausted and chilled completely. Hope those insulated clothes help tomorrow since you have to be out to take care of your animal kingdom. I’ll be thinking of all of you.
It is kind of wonderful and amazing how we’ve all come together along with so many others who suffer through life but still find pleasure…sometimes searching harder than other times. It is a blessing to me to write this blog as it has brought goodness and blessings out of my personal pain and that is always a fine thing.
Glad you got home when you did dear friend. Stay safe. Love you, Sue

  22. Well flask made and sandwiches, dressed ready to go and DH suddenly no good..so waiting for Dr to phone …that’s the way it goes. I think it’s the tabs affecting the Menieres
    Donna
I hope all the weather sorts itself out around you and electric remains stable
    Tonie
On the news there was a big fire huge flames in WV anywhere near you…? something had turned over and spilt
    Ok back later chris

    • Chris, that was not very far away, over in Wva. It was a train car that overturned, gas tanker exploded. Only one person taken for smoke inhalation, so good news there. Prayers for hubby.

    • Chris, one of my FB friends posted pictures of the inferno from that train derailing and apparently it’s, the tanker, spilling crude oil into one of the rivers and is causing some water contamination for some folks who are already in dire straits. Life can be so unfair at time, huh?
I hope you get to make your trip anyway and that it will be good for both you and DH. You’ve both been under so much stress of late. More tab problems for his blood pressure. Poor guy. Hang in there dear lady. Getting to the shed has to be good for his B/P. Have a safe trip. Glad your weather good. We had a lovely couple of days with temps in the fifties and air so clear and sweet. Jim and I went down and parked by the river and just enjoyed the view for awhile after my doctor’s appt. yesterday. Then when we got home couldn’t get the radio to turn off, even with the engine off and the doors closed so Jim had to take it to the dealership and then it worked as should. They said these computer everything cars can do things like that. Lovely.
Please have fun and relax…long overdue. Love, Sue

  23. SUE…..ALL OK WITH THE EYES, BUT ALLERGIES OF AN UNKNOWN SOURCE IN THE EYELID AND LOWER RIM, GOT LOTION AND PADS TO USE AND EXTRA DROPS……NEVER PRAYED SO HARD IN MY LIFE, I WAS SCARED STIFF.GOT TO GO BACK IN A YEAR, BECAUSE THE PRESSURE WAS GOOD, HE THOUGHT IT WOULDN’T SERVE A PURPOSE GOING BEFORE…..THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN…….MUCH LOVE…JENNIE X

    • Jennie, Early here about 7:45 and had to get on here to get your news. Odd to think of you going to the doc as we all slept. Yeah. It is good news. I am so relieved as I know you are. I suspect you will now be on a quest to see what the allergen is that is causing it. Could it be some face wash, make-up, etc.???Os does he think it is airborne like pollen, molds, etc. I feel your relief so strongly. Thank God my dear and hope your cold is much better. Suspect it will get better now with this burden lifting. Much love, Sue

      • HI SUE…..I THOUGHT ABOUT MAKEUP AND MENTIONED IT TO THE DOCTOR, HE SAID IT WOULDN’T HURT TO GET SOME FOR SENSITIVE EYES, SO I WENT ONLINE AND ORDERED SOME FROM AMAZON FRANCE…..GOT SOME ALMAY MASCARA AND EYE SHADOW…..SEE HOW IT GOES……NOTICED THAT THE OPEN LOG FIRE BUGS ME…MAYBE SOMETHING IN THAT…ITS A MINEFIELD….BUT GOT TO TRY…….COLD ON THE MEND, BUT IT WAS FUNNY, WHEN THE DOC PUT THE YELLOW SOLUTION IN,…..LATER I SNEEZED IN THE CAR, AND BLEW MY NOSE AND IT FLEW INTO THE TISSUE SO BRIGHT, IT SHOCKED ME AT FIRST……FELT LIKE AN ALIEN, HOPE YOU ARE GETTING BETTER AND STRONGER….LOVE JENNIE X

  24. Morning all :
Jennie so glad all is well with your eyes. I know you are relieved.
Donna, prayers for your power staying on, I really hate ice storms, nothing you can do. I have propane heat and it stays on when power is off. All ours was snow, looks to be about 8 inches. Fluffy stuff, dry. I went out and fed this am wearing my insulated bibs 🙂 At least I don’t have to carry water with all the snow on the ground 🙂 I threw out hay for the chickens to cuddle in, Put it in all the nesting boxes. The sun is out all bright but it is really cold out there.
Had me a bowl of oatmeal this am (gotta start on lowering the cholesterol) and coffee now I am ready for a nap !! They boys are both sound asleep from their romp in the snow. Brutus went with me to feed, He walks in the path as I break it. So funny. He loves being out though. Have a good day all, stay safe and warm. Janet did you get any of this snow storm there ??
    Love
    Tonie

    • No snow here in South Texas, in fact it has been below freezing just a couple of times this year. I asked my son about it and he said in the 30 some years he has lived in Southwest Houston he has seen snow just 4 times and it melted almost immediately. Just a little north of us is a different story. You be careful out there and stay warm,
      Love, Janet

      • Janet, your winter sounds much like ours. Good news for some of us, huh? I saw daffodils popping up in our yard yesterday when I was getting in the car to go to the doc. Sure signs of spring and welcome at that. How are you doing? Love, Sue

    • TONIE…THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND THOUGHTS, I AM SO THANKFUL WE DON’T HAVE THE SNOW NOW, ITS NOT SO BAD WHEN THE SUN SHINES AT LEAST ITS CHEERY, THE DOGS LOVE IT DON’T THEY? HOPE OU ARE RECOVERED FROM YOUR TRIP…BET YOU ARE MISSING THE KIDDIES HUH? LOVE JENNIE XX

    • Tonie, Hay there!! Sorry, couldn’t resist after all the hay talk. You’re such a good momma to your critters. Lovely to see how thoughtful and wise you are, you old farm girl. I know you miss the kids but also know it must be fine to be home. Sorry it’s extreme weather but the fluffy snow does sound better than the ice. Cute how Brutie follows you through the snow. Hope you get some rest today and am glad you will stay warm and safe. Hope all is well with Judy and nice to know you’re there for each other.
Just had my oatmeal. I’ve been eating a cup of the instant oatmeal with dried apples in it for weeks now because it fills the gut in the AM. I don’t even like oatmeal but eat it anyway. GS had a cold but is better but not good enough for school so I’ll keep him this afternoon while Beth works. Don’t think he’s too contagious without a fever. This darn cold everyone is getting just hangs on forever it seems. A duration of weeks are being reported by all. Rest, okay. Love you, Sue

  25. Tonie
You’ll get used to the diet..we have both been on it for years?DH can’t takes statins.Im on it so we all have same food
The slimming world green diet has some good low fat recipes that do help and give you ideas
Now we both can feel the fat inour mouths if we have anything fatty
Yea porridge is good..I make mine with water then add low fat yogurt after.nuts are good ,walnuts I add for DH
Don’t know if you can have them ,I cant
You I’ll soon get the roll of it and like it
I see the weather you are having , such a change from us it’s sunny and 50f …and I’m inside…
Dr rang and DH has to stop the bp tabs…here we go again!..for a week and go back to see him
    Jen
    Yea good news innit
My throat sore but cold has broke..but my blimmin cough!
    Chris

  26. Jennie, Certainly, make-up is the closest to the eyes. I gave up wearing eye make-up last year when I had a bad flare with my eyes and agree completely about the tiny ash in the air from fires. I found the powdered eye shadow would fall into the eyes ad even the liquid would when it dried. So irritating, both open fires and the make-up. Sounds like you are feeling more up about the whole issue. So pleased you got the help. Do the drops help yet? Thinking of you.
I think I have to see a back specialist to get my ability to stand for any length of time. I’m okay lying down, fair sitting depending on the seat and can still only stand for about 15 mins. which makes cooking, shopping, etc much too difficult. My family doctor suggested a pain clinic up in Portland and I suggested asking my rheumy. She agreed so I will write my rheumy today and get an opinion. I do hate to see anyone with surgeon in their names. Getting out even to go to the doc yesterday was so lovely. I’ve really been shut in too darn long. Hope to work out on the porch in my potted plants for a few mins. today. Take good care of yourself dear girl, Love, Sue

    • SUE….THAT ALL SOUNDS HOPEFUL…..SO PLEASED YOU MANAGED TO GET OUT EVEN IF IT WAS ONLY TO THE DOCS. I HOPE YOU GOT OUT IN THE GARDEN….STILL TOO COLD HERE, BUT SIGNS OF SPRING EVERYWHERE NOW. TRYING HARD TO SELL, DH BUSY CLEARING OUT THE CELLAR, GOT RID OF SO MUCH STUFF.
LOVED THE PHOTO YOU PUT UP OF THE LOVELY FLOWERS FROM JIM……HE IS STILL IN LOVE HUH?
THE DROPS ARE THE SAME AS I HAVE BEEN USING, BUT THE IMPREGNATED PADS ARE SOMETHING DIFFERENT, WE WILL SEE HOW THAT GOES……..LOVE YOU….JEN XX

      • Jennie, Sorry dear, but you misunderstood. Those flowers were part of a story I posted from another man named Jim to his wife. I can see how it would be confusing if you didn’t read the story with it.
Sounds like your DH should come over here and clean out our basement. That must be a wonderful feeling. Still thinking of moving back to England? If so I hope you can sell your lovely place this spring. Hope your eyes are better each day. Love you, Sue

  27. Dear Sue, I’m doing ok. Still having some problems getting my meds all straightened out. I take so darned many and they expire at all different times. New group of doctors are good, but I miss the ones I had for 20 years. I find out how lucky I am almost everyday. My DILs Mom has alzheimers. It is a continual problem. I thought once they had her in a home it would all work out, but not so. I can’t imagine what life must be for an alzheimer patient that has no family to protect them. My son & DI L are moving her to a new facility today and once again hopes are that this one will take proper care of her. These are special nursing homes for Alsheimer that are supposed to now how to handle their particular problems. A few prayers for Ruthmary might help. Thanks for caring and prayers for you. Love, Janet

    • Janet, I am understand your feelings. It takes awhile to break in new doctors. Glad you found some good ones but know it takes time on each side for you to get used to each other. Too bad you can’t get all your meds on an auto fill. I fill through Walgreen’s mail service and get a 3 month supply and they call when one of the routine meds is due for refill. I have to call in the PRN’s. My DH gets his filled locally and it seems he’s always driving out to pick them up a month at a time.
Prayers for the family and for Ruthmary. Such a sad and tragic disease. I had a friend who’s very bright husband had it and had to be hospitalized but kept breaking out and walking far away. It was such a heartache for the family. My Brother-in-law’s Mom had it and was more docile but still so tragic. I have often thought it easier to have a major, painful disease than to go through Alzheimer’s but I believe the heartache is for the family, don’t you?
Hope all calms for you as you settle in. Hope all your critters are doing well. Much love, Sue

    • Janet:
My prayers for her. My father in laws, dad had that terrible disease. I felt so bad for him. He was in a very good place, but the doors were locked, you could not get in or out without someone opening the door for you. One little old man would always try to pay us to let him out. Prayers for you too as well lady

  28. Jennie, I am so glad there was nothing major going on with your eyes. I hope they can find out what allergens are causing the problems. Now you can concentrate on getting over this cold. Stay in and stay warm. LOVE YOU. Tonie, I feel for you getting out in the cold feeding and watering your animals. Glad you have something warm to wear. Hope you are staying warm. Thanks for all your prayers last night.. we did not lose power. In fact the trees looked good when I went to bed. The streets in front of our house are covered with snow and ice so won’t be going to my Rheumatologist appointment today. Will reschedule later. LOVE and hugs to all of you. We have some very cold artic air coming in the next few days. It is cold out, but the sun looks nice. Bye all. Wrap up and stay warm. Donna

    • Donna, thanks for checking in with us. Glad your power stayed on. Prayers and best thoughts for that Arctic air to keep going. Love, Sue

    • DONNA…..YES A RELIEF NOTHING MAJOR…..SEEMS TO BE WHEN THE ROOMS GET STUFFY WITH THE HEAT FROM THE LOGS……AS ITS THE MAIN SOURCE OF HEATING……PROBLEMS….GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR APPOINTMENT PETAL, I KNOW YOU WILL HAVE TO RESCHEDULE LATER ON WHEN THE WEATHER IMPROVES, SO HOPE THAT WON’T BE TOO LONG…..MUCH LOVE…JENNIE XX

  29. SUE…SORRY ABOUT THAT…TRUST ME TO GET IT WRONG…..I THINK MY DH NEVER WANTS TO SEE ANOTHER BASEMENT EVER AGAIN, SO SORRY TO DISAPPOINT, WE ARE NOT GOING BACK TO ENGLAND, I WOULD ONLY CONSIDER IT IF I WAS LEFT ON MY OWN, AND EVEN THEN ONLY IF I WOULD BE NEAR TO MY SON…….HOPE THAT IS NOT FOR A LONG TIME….MUCH LOVE…JEN X

    • Jennie, so this move is to find a home easier to care for? I certainly understand that thinking. Our basement is a nightmare. Hope you’re doing better dear lady. Love you, Sue

      • SUE ….DOING MY BEST, GOT THE HOUSE ON WITH AS MANY AS I CAN….NEED TO DOWNSIZE, TOO MUCH HOUSEWORK AND GARDENING TO DO, NOW THAT WE ARE GETTING OLDER…….THE CELLAR HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE, BUT MY DH HAS BEEN REALLY BUSY TURFING OUT OLD STUFF, WE HAVEN’T USED IT FOR YEARS, SO I GUESS THAT MEANS IT HAS TO GO. THERE WAS AN AWFUL STINK DOWN THERE, NOW THE WEATHER HAS CHANGED BIT, SO WE CAN THROW OPEN THE GARAGE DOORS AND LET SOME FRESH AIR IN…….
HOW ARE YOU DOING SUE….DID YOU GET TO SEE YOUR RHUEMY????/……..WITH LOVE….JENNIE XX

  30. Hey all:
Good evening from the cold Blue Ridge Mtns. It is getting bitterly cold tonight and tomorrow. Already down to 7′ with the windchill of less than nothing. I am not looking forward to feeding in the am. PRaying for my animals to be safe tonight. I put lots of hay down for the chickens They snuggle into it and stay warm, lots of hay for Baby to eat, heats her up inside (along with feed). We are snug and warm inside. Please everyone in this cold snap, stay warm and safe. Prayers for everyone’s power to stay on.
    Love to all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, prayer and warm hugs. That’s so bitterly cold for all of you. Hope all will be well tonight. Warm hugs from wet old Oregon. Love, Sue

    • Hi Tonie, we are in the deep freeze as well. At least we didn’t have any pipes to freeze or power outages. Tonight is suppose to be the worse night yet. Down to 4 degrees plus the wind chill. Breaking all kinds of records for highs and lows. It is only 21 degrees at 3:00 PM. I can’t even imagine how cold it is for your animals. This is unusually cold for you to I believe. The hens can cuddle together in the hay but my heart goes out for Baby. You know more about horses than I do so I guess you know what to do. Sure hope she doesn’t escape again.
Most of our snow and ice are gone on the main roads. My DH drives a school bus and they haven’t been to school all week. The secondary roads and the cold weather makes it hard to risk driving. I doubt they will go tomorrow either. We are suppose to get a little more snow this weekend but I think it will be mostly rain with the higher temperatures. I hope so anyway. Well take care of yourself and stay warm. I know it will be cold for you in the morning. Be careful. Everything will be frozen. Sure don’t want you to fall. LOVE and hugs, Donna

      • Donna:
Baby loves the snow. SHe has an immense wooly coat. She lays down and sleeps, rolls in it like it is warm. I don’t get it, but she is fine. The more feed you give them (like mixed feed) the hotter they get, so she gets a BIG scoop of feed at night plus her hay. It warms up the blood. Hope you made it thru the cold today. It is supposed to warm up to the THIRTIES tomorrow ! HEAT WAVE !
        Love
        Tonie

  31. Jennie, our circumstances are indeed similar. We feel the pressure of health, age and far too much accumulation. Thinking we’ll use something some day is not good enough. We have so many things that should be disposed of or given to someone who would like them. I wish we had a better charity here in the area for old clothes, etc. Some have to come all the way from Portland.
Actually, I am just sending a note to my rheumy to see if she has further helpful ideas for me to regain more function. I just saw her last month. My family practice doctor is the one who thought a pain clinic might be a good idea but I’m not so sure. I think I’d rather see a back doctor with a good reputation. My quality of life is just so bad right now. I must get to the point I can go to the store and do minimum chores around town.
I do hope your eyes are feeling less miserable now. Is spring arriving or showing signs in France. We have many daffodils popping up everywhere and the huge camellia bush is ablaze with crimson. It’s on the way here unlike so many of our friends in the east and south who are still in the deep freeze. Be good to yourself, Love ya, Sue

    • Hey Sue and Jennie, I thank you for your prayers. So far no power outages and no frozen pipes. This cold weather is very unusual for us here in the South. Tonight will be the worse. It is suppose to be 4 degrees plus the wind chill. So if you could keep praying for all of us affected by this weather, we would appreciate it very much. I feel sorry for Tonie having to go out and feed her animals. She loves them though and I believe that there is nothing she wouldn’t do for them. I just pray for her safety since everything will be frozen. I could use some prayer for my back. It is my left side and pain in that hip and leg. I haven’t had an injection for that area in over a year. I think it is all this cold weather has it in a flare up. I haven’t been out since Monday morning. 4 years ago we had a big snow storm and an inch of ice on top of that. The roads were clear and I had an appointment to get my bone scan. I thought I would be ok but I slipped and fell right at my Van door and broke my leg. I went on to the hospital and got my bone scan then I went to the ER and found out my leg was broken. So now, I don’t go out if there is ice. Not doing that again. You two take care and I am so glad you don’t have to deal with this. LOVE and hugs, Donna

      • Donna, so glad you are staying in. We will keep sending out those prayers for your safety and your pipes, power, etc. Wow. You had your bone scan four years ago while hurting from a freshly broken leg? Lady, you are tough.
I am sorry all of you are going through this in the north and the deep south. I feel for all of you and the innocent animals in each of your lives. I hope Tonie is maintaining as well. Love, Sue

      • HI DONNA….I HOPE YOU ARE COPING WITH YOUR BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS AND KEEPING WARM, AND EATING WELL.
YES OF COURSE THE PRAYERS WILL CONTINUE FOR YOUR SAFETY AND YOUR HEALTH, I AM SURE YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT YOUR LEG AND HIP, THE COLD CONDITIONS MAKES IT WORSE. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF DURING THIS COLD WEATHER…….KEEP SAFE…MUCH LOVE….JENNIE XXXX

    • HI SUE……YES WE GOOD DO WITH BETTER CHARITY SHOPS ETC, WE GIVE A LOT TO THE CATHOLIC SOCIETY FOR THE HOMELESS HERE, BUT IT WOULD BE MORE PLEASING FOR US TO BE ABLE TO HELP CANCER CHARITIES, AND MS SOCIETY’S, BUT THERE IS NOTHING HERE LIKE THAT.
LIKE YOU WE HAVE HAPPENINGS IN THE GARDEN…OUR CAMELLIA BUSH IS FLOWERING, AS ARE THE DAFFS AND CROCUSES. YES I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE IN A COLDER CLIMATE, SPRING WILL BE LATER FOR THEM THIS YEAR.
GO WITH WHAT YOU THINK IS BEST FOR YOU REGARDING YOUR BACK SUE, THE RIGHT DECISION IS KEY TO THE ROAD BACK TO HEALTH FOR YOU….THINKING OF YOU…GOD BLESS…JENNIE XX

      • Jennie, well, it does sound like spring has sprung at your lovely place. All the better to make it ready to show and hopefully sell, huh? Yes, the charity situation is difficult in small towns. We have Goodwill and a homeless charity shop but the latter are very picky about what you bring in. Yesterday I tossed several things into huge bags such as pillow cases and old videos which we don’t watch because of DVD’s. Amazing how all this STUFF build up little by little and starts to encroach on life. I’m so tired of clutter since I’ve been down so much and am catching spring fever to tackle and get rid of it. Hope you’re feeling better dear girl. Love you, Sue

  32. I’m concerned for so many of you in the East and the South. Please know I’m praying for, thinking of and wishing health and safety for each of you and your families and pets…which are our families, right? Love, Sue

  33. I join with sue on this.such terrible weather

DONNA you are wise to stay in and keep warm with all you have.. I do hope you feel better soon and some of that pain gone.
Not much different here ,DH now got my cold virus.mine has made my cough moreso and my chest sorer to breath
My chest scan is on wed.
DH had to stop his bp tabs ,his balance probs were getting worse ,the Dr wants to see him in a week.wish he could find one that he could keep taking. It would make staying at the shed one less concern
    Sue
I went to a pain clinic about 6mths ago..the Dr. Sent me…they went thru various options.some would be no good for me.the last one was acupuncture . Only yesterday they rang again ..I had to cancel a month age. I just can’t commit to the regular time needed for it. But also..my dad had one in his back and it pinched a nerve and he has been in pain since for about 30 yrs.i just don’t want to bring anymore on myself.he has seen the hosp about it and they agree it was that needle….I have had it before but not in my back….just don’t want the worry……but when I’ve had it before I wasn’t worried and it was ok….I’m just gonna trust with what I feel now about it
Maybe when that wet weather drys up a bit it will all feel easier ,just to do stuff when we want is such a great lift
Well it’s nearly 6am here I’ve had 4hrs sleep. that’s good for me
    Chris

    • Chris, thanks for the info about your pain clinic experience. I’m sure there are good ones but I’m afraid to commit because of the hours, the drive and travel as well as the fact I know what works and would probably make a fool of myself by arguing with something I didn’t like. I know me. I had acupuncture for my SI joints several years ago and it didn’t do a bit of good. I do have a friend who swears by it but it hasn’t proven it’s worth to me.
Glad you had some good time with GS. Grands are special, huh? How’s the car? All fixed. I read your words about UGGS and used to like them but find large bulky boots too dangerous now. I agree when you find a shoe that feels good you keep wearing it into the ground. I do that, also. Can’t you get the hole fixed? I usually find a brand I like and can count on but hate trying on shoes and have sent back so many through the mail I should be ashamed. Take care dear girl and enjoy the shed. Love to you, Sue

  34. HI CHRIS,,HOW ARE YOU DOING???? YOU GOT THE MARCH WINDS AND DRIVING RAIN LIKE US? COME A BIT EARLY THIS YEAR…….HOPE THINGS ARE PERKING UP A BIT FOR YOU AND YOUR DH….DID YOU ENJOY YOUR TIME WITH YOUR GS??
    MUCH LOVE…JENNIE XX

  35. Yea Jen it was good withGS as always….he could always make a bad day a good one….
Things still the same here….tomorrow looks like a good day untill sunday and more rain
Bought a pair of ugg boots, thought they were ok in shop…but got home put them on for 5mins and no they weren’t ….back they went…I can’t get anything shoe wise .the boots I wear DH Is ashamed to be seen with me…they are so worn down.cant be fixed.theres a hole in one boot! I don’t walk in the wet
So I’m not bothered! But you can see it if you walk behind me so he says…..I don’t care Im fed up with hurting myself bending and putting on to try.whats more it will be sandals soon!….and then another problem….
I roasted that chicken and made two batches of soup,a rice dish for two of us,a meal for us and the rest for a snack….so that went well.£3 from Aldi ..oh and the stuffing as well .
I liked that straight in the oven in the oven bag and tray it came in and no mess.
Well gonna clean out this w.end…..that’s the plan….ready for what fate springs next week
    Got the car back
    Have a good w.end all
    Chris

  36. Sue
Nope the boots can’t be fixed got sealed rubber soles. Infact there’s more than one hole as well! I was being economical with the truth!
They are so comfy too and easy to slip foot in.i can wear two pairs of socks in them and they are fur lined and I’m warm..have to see if I can get from same shop next year .they keep changing styles
Then I won’t chuck them I’ll keep them at the shed!
We will gave to start chucking stuff out too..NOT my boots……just too much junk.its supposed to make you feel better to chuck out stuff that’s crowding you……bring it on!
My dad is happy with the old scooter back
My new mobile is working good
    My cold is improving
DH is going down with it
    The car is all fixed
So that’s the end of the week
Clean out tomorrow and see how we go for next week!
Yea Sue committing to all that time is too much, and you would have to be back an fore
Taking shoes back ain’t my only vice there’s clothes too….heck I’m terrible!…but at least I do buy clothes just can’t shoes
    Chris

    • Chris, I share your frustration. It seems each time I find a shoe or pants, etc. I like they come out with a newer version. Guess that’s the world of retail. I have one pair of leather SAS brand sandals that stays the same and I have three pair of them or maybe it’s four. I’ve even had them resoled. Since I’ve been a bit out of the mainstream lately Jim has been taking things back to the UPS office for me, although some of it is his, truly. Right now I’m trying to buy a breast on Amazon. Otherwise I will end up making that long painful trip to Portland. Sending one back today. I just keep thinking of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears. “This one is too big, this one is too small, etc.” I will eventually get one that’s just right. It’s not everyday one buys a boob.
Glad your life is simplifying a bit and Dad is happy with his old scooter. It sometimes comes in piles doesn’t it? Hope DH is up to the trip to the shed so you both can relax. You deserve it. Thoughts and love, Sue

      • Sue, next time you have an appointment in Portland, see if you can get an appointment with a bra fitter who deals with “boobs.” She can tell you what size you need. I don’t know if you have done that yet or not. Medicare will pay for them every two years and six bras a year. In fact it is past time for my new bras. I get 3 every 6 months. You need to get the mastectomy bras that have pockets in them for the fake boobs. I am sure someone has gone over this with you but just in case not this is just a little information for you. In the meantime I hope you find one that fits very soon. It is very hard doing this on your own. Praying for you. LOVE YOU sweet lady! Donna
PS I am going to send you my phone number on Facebook private message in case you have any questions.

      • Oh SUe, only you can make me laugh about buying a breast replacement !! 🙂 I can always send you some of mine ! You will find the right one soon.
I hate trying on clothes in the store, I like buying my size and taking them home. WHICH doesn’t work anymore. You have to see where they are made, and go from there. One size fits from the Indoneasian countries, another from USA (if you can find it) and another from Europe. It is awful !

  37. Hey all:
Well, survived another one. Busy cold day ! It started off at -2′ this am when I woke up and fed the animals. Then off at 9 to Fran’;s to let the plumber in, on to water aerobics. No one showed up for class so I had my own and I think I worked harder than she does us 🙂 Then had to go shopping, then to get gas, then back to Fran’s to set the alarm , to the post office, over to pick up my nephew and FINALLY home ! That wears me out ! But all is done for another week. Monday I have to start preparing for my colonoscopy on Wed. FUNFUN !
Chris, I got me a knock off pair of UGGS off Amazon and I love them. I wear them out to feed every morning. And have worn them for the last 2 days. They keep my toes warm where my cowboy work boots do not.
The cold has really got all my aches n pains going. The water felt so good today. I have to get my hot tub fixed when it warms up enough ! Well, off to slumber land. Tomorrow is supposed to be nasty mix of snow and rain (at least it is in the 30’s) and I have to work around the house.
    Love to all
    TOnie

  38. Tonie
You’ve been busy too…wise to get it all done before Monday!
They’ve been reporting here on how cold the weather is over with yourselves
Yep the uggs were warm but thefoot shape was no good on the one foot I just kept hitting the edge with it and it made my heel bone throb….but my old ones I wear all the time
Well keep warm there and Those blimmin preps for the colonosopes..no fun.i have them every 3 yrs.i hope you haven’t got far to travel to have it done
Well it’s nearly 5am gonna try to sleep Chris
Ps how are you lyn and Suzanne?

  39. Tonie, I think any one of us who have ever been through a colonoscopy can empathize with your prep next week. Hate those things. Sure, they put you out for the procedure but it’s the prep that stinks as you already know. Hope you plan to be home those days and also hope the weather calms and warms for you and all the critters. Glad Baby keeps growing fur and loves the snow. She’s got a lot of youngster in her. Hope your weekend can be used to rest a bit and recover from all you had to do this week. Love, Sue

    • SUe:
I have been resting !! No church today. I actually slept later than 7, poor Baby was upset with me. 🙂 Yep not looking forward to all that pooping 🙂 I have a few things to do in the am tomorrow. One is go back to the store and get the right size of laxative to drink, I got the small should’ve gotten the large. Then when I get home, I drink the citrate and get it all started. It is 44′ here today !! The snow is all mushy and slick. But it is like a tropical vacation !! I went out with just my jacket, no overalls this am 🙂
Chris, Lyn, Donna….Jennie, Suzanne, Annie, Bobsled, Janet, all of you, please be safe, warm and have a lovely day !
      Love
      Tonie

      • Tonie, so glad you’re warming up. Must be a mess with all the mushy snow everywhere. Wishing you the best with the prep. The good news is it will be over in a couple of days. How far do you have to drive for the test? Thinking of you…Sue

  40. Sue
What a difficult buy to have to make…just like you to see the humerous side.i do hope you find one to fit nice and comfy…well it seems you can get it all on Amazon !
    Tonie
You keep warm with what you got going this week
You are lucky to be put out for the colonosopy.over here they don’t do that and I’ve been awake for three of them
Also it’s like that for when they take polyps out of the uterus.
They give you an injection to relax you for the colposcopy tho. But that’s it
You’ve done well with all the ops you have had over the last few months and you have the summer and a look around for a new place..all good things
I got my scan for my chest on Wednesday and my ultra sound for further polyps in the uterus the following week.DH has his pacemaker check and also drs appt for new bp tabs …
Well gonna try and read my book and then sleep…that’s the plan!
    Chris

    • Chris, Sleep well and I hope for a few consecutive hours. Sounds like you have a busy couple of weeks coming your way. Life, huh? They say that which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. I wonder? Rest well, and yes, it does appear you can buy anything on Amazon. Love, Sue

      • Sue:
I have about 50 miles to drive for the testing. Everything out here is far away 🙂 Perks of living in the country ! Take care all and have a good night. Jennie praying.
        Love
        Tonie

  41. GOOD MORNING, I’M ALMOST FINISHED THAT PAPER WORK. PHEW! SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH AUNTY THE PAST TWO WEEKS. A SPECIALIST CAME IN TO VISIT HER APT AND TOLD US BY CHANGING THE LIGHTING AUNTY WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE MORE. SHE GAVE US A LIST OF THINGS TO BUY AND OFF WE WENT SHOPPING TO GET THEM AND THEN INSTALL EVERYTHING IN HER KITCHEN AND HALLWAY. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. THEY GAVE HER A NEW MAGNIFYING GLASS WITH A LIGHT AND NOW SHE USES IT ALL THE TIME.. ALSO BROUGHT HER A NEW LAMP FOR THE LIVING ROOM SO THAT IS ALSO A BIG HELP. NOW DOING PAPER WORK FOR HER ALSO. I’VE BEEN BUSY!
WENT SNOWSHOEING BUT SLIPPED AND FELT SOMETHING WEIRD INSIDE MY BACK (THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO VOMIT) BEEN IN PAIN EVER SINCE. EVERY SINGLE STEP I TAKE I FEEL IT. NOT GOOD. SEEING THE DOC ON MAR 10, STILL A WAYS TO GO BUT I’LL JUST HAVE TO HANG IN THERE TILL THEN.
SUE GOOD LUCK WITH THE BOOB! SOUNDS LIKE THOSE BRAS WOULD BE GOOD FOR YOU AND THEY ARE PAID FOR, WHAT MORE CAN ONE ASK FOR.
OH COLONOSCOPY, FIRST TIME THEY DIDN’T PUT ME OUT AT ALL, LAST ONE THE DID AFTER I KEPT TELLING THEM THEY WERE HURTING ME. GOOD LUCK.
TONIE I HAVE A KNOCK OFF PAIR OF UGGS ALSO AND THEY ARE WONDERFUL.
CHRIS SWEETIE, DO TAKE GOOD CARE, LOTS GOING ON WITH YOU.
HOW IS JENNIE POO DOING? HAVE YOUR EYES BEEN TAKEN CARE OF YET. I SURE DO HOPE SO LOVE.
WELL THAT’S IT FOR NOW HAVE TO FINISH THAT PAPER WORK TODAY AND MAIL IT TOMORROW. THEY ASK SO MANY QUESTIONS. UNBELIEVABLE.
    LOVE YOU ALL, GOD BLESS!
    HAVE A PEACEFUL SUNDAY EVERYONE.
    XXX

    • Suzanne, Sounds like your aunt is getting some good advice. I hope life gets better for her very soon with all the improvements. You are so dear to watch over her like you do.
It sounds like you have done something quite serious to your back. I pray not but it does sound like you should go to the ER. Is that possible? Thinking of you…Love, Sue

  42. JUST HEARD…..MY MOM IS IN SHOCK BUT OK…..AN EXPLOSION HAPPENED IN THE CAFÉ DOWNSTAIRS, AN EVACUATION TOOK PLACE, ONE PERSON IS DEAD AND TWO FIREMEN IN HOSPITAL…..MY MOM GOT UP TO SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, AND TWO FIREMEN FLUNG OPEN HER DOOR, AND INJURED HER, SHE FELL TO THE FLOOR WITH A CUT HEAD AND FACIAL INJURIES, SHE IS ALL BLACK AND BLUE. THEY OPENED THE DOOR TOO QUICKLY…..THEY WERE TAKEN TO SAFETY, BUT THEN HER NEPHEW FOUND HER AND TOOK HER TO HER NIECE’S HOUSE, WHERE SHE WILL HAVE TO STAY TILL THEY CAN GO HOME WHICH COULD BE A MONTH OR MORE. SHE HAS NO GLASSES, NO HEARING AID, NO MONEY OR ID. SHE NEEDS A STICK FOR HER BROKEN FOOT….WHAT A BLOODY MESS…..SHE IS SAFE THOUGH THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KINDNESS…..LOVE JENNIE XX

    • Oh Jennie, I am so sorry. It would be a terrible situation to be in for a younger person but for someone in their nineties, how awful. I know she is full of spunk but this sounds so serious. Hopefully they will let folks back in to get their important meds, etc. Being without her glasses and hearing aid could make getting out of the shock even harder, couldn’t it? Let us know, okay? Prayers and hugs, Sue

    • Jennie:
SO sorry ! Praying for her recovery, and hopefully the shock will wear off with no ill effects. Bless you dear one.
      Love you
      TOnie

    • Oh Jennie, so sorry about your mother and all the others. I will be praying for her, you and everyone else involved. Has she been checked out by a doctor? Hopefully someone will be able to get her things. Glad she has family to help take care of her. I am so sorry sweet Jennie that you have something else added to your plate. We have to trust God in all this. He has already protected her. Things will work out. She is going to get all the things she needs and the things that will make her comfortable. LOVE YOU my friend. Keep us informed. You are loved very much and we are all praying for you and your mom. Hugs, Donna
