SUE’S OFFICIAL RULES FOR WHINING

How to Whine

When you’ve had chronic pain for many years whining becomes an art form, a sacred ritual while also becoming a bit repetitive. That’s why you have to jazz it a bit by coming up with new ways to whine. Sure, it sounds easy. If you’re new to all this you might think all you have to do is be the victim, I mean patient; then spot another victim, also known as the listener and you’re all set to go. It’s much more complex than that. Let me see if I can sum it up for you. I love a list so let’s try that, shall we?

  1. Never whine when you’re with someone sicker than you are. They don’t give a rat’s ass and you will find it very unfulfilling.
  2. Whining is not a contest but if it were, you’d have to find someone without any problems of their own. Good luck with that. You might as well call in the Raiders of the Lost Ark to go on a sacred quest in order to find another human without problems.
  3. Whining is best with a captured audience.
  4. That’s why it works best with pets, infants, semi-comatose individuals, the deaf or those who are asleep.
  5. Don’t try this with someone who is only partially asleep because, I know from experience, they will only roll over and say, “Huh? Did you say something?” That’s very unfulfilling and could cause you to perform an act of violence.
  6. It’s not considered good etiquette to carry a weapon when you’re whining, especially if you’re planning on a long session of droning, which might include fit-throwing and physical upheaval. You might get “carried away.” Then you would certainly be carried away.
  7. If you’re going to whine effectively, you can’t include too much stomping around because it may prove to be counter-productive. It makes you look too healthy; which will defeat the purpose.
  8. Whining is salesmanship at its most emotional level.
  9. Remember your goal is to gain sympathy, not put the “audience” to sleep or alienate them.
  10. You’ll know you’ve gone too far when friends and relatives begin to run and hide when they see you coming.
  11. Don’t forget the props if you’re planning a long session of complaining. These would include a large handkerchief or an extra large box of Kleenex; no crying towels because they’re too obvious an affectation and give away the “ending.”
  12. Visual effects such as canes, walkers and wheelchairs also give it away too soon, but if you must have them, you must. Crawling on the ground is considered bad form and you also have to worry about getting up again. That can be a bit tricky, especially if you’re left alone. It’s often dirty down there on the floor, at least at my house.
  13. I have found the best audience for whining is your own pet. Dogs are best because they have fur you can use to dry your eyes and will usually lick your face afterwards. Cats, unfortunately fit into that “don’t give a rat’s ass” category. I love cats but it’s usually all about “Me, Me, Me” with them.
  14. There is a way you can whine to a cat but you have to use your happy voice and stroke them constantly while doing it. That gets tiresome when you’re already in a bad mood. If you become emotional and stroke a cat too vigorously, they will get even with you. This may involve claws out, your blood being spilled and even more for you to whine about. There could also be a great deal of noise from both you and the cat. Screaming by either of you is considered non-productive.
  15. You are allowed to whine at the doctor’s office but only if you keep it concise and to the point; otherwise his/her eyes will begin to glaze over and that will affect the doctor’s notes, profoundly.
  16. While you’re in a rant at the doctor’s office, they will stop looking at you; pull their computer close and type in what an emotionally unstable patient you are. The words “nut job” will then forever live on your medical records.
  17. They will undoubtedly get out their prescription pad and write you a prescription for Zanax or one of the social anxiety drugs.
  18. Doctors seldom recommend alcohol as a remedy for the patient who drones on about his or her problems. They may need it themselves when they go home just to get all the buzz of droning in their ears to fade away.
  19. Never complain to your veterinarian about yourself. Why do you think they chose a medical profession where the patients don’t talk? They may also try to take your temperature rectally, while you are being held down by two vet assistants. You might get a pedicure or should I say “peticure” out of it but, is it really worth it?
  20. Finally, if you must drone on, whine, complain incessantly, do it to music. I prefer NOBODY KNOWS THE TROUBLE I’V SEEN, sung loudly, while I am alone. Find a song that fits you. You might prefer, I’VE GOTTA BE ME or RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD. You could also make up your own tune and lyrics.

You see? This whining business can get out of hand, doesn’t accomplish much but seems to squirt out of us anyway. I guess it is part of the human condition. Go with it if you must but make it short, do it less often and always leave ‘em laughing.

Noooooo you didn’t speak out of turn…it’s what I’ve been thinking put into flesh
My dad is such a fighter and an ignorer of how it is,he denies what is happening..he is due foe a steroid inj in his shoulder (he broke in a fall a few years ago) and he has changed it to the Friday I’m away to be done….it was to be done last Monday . It’s just all awkward. I don’t think he should have it done but his Dr thinks so
And he has organised to meet GS on Sunday in town after church to take him for lunch!
But I’ve asked him not to eat himself as he couldn’t get to the toilets there quick enough yo have to cough something up…Altho GS Is sensible and could sort a situation out…..but it’s all not necessary.
But no you help me sort stuff out in my head …so you keep saying sue
That must have been so awful hearing your dad like that….I do remember you saying . I just can’t imagine it with two parents gone and shared history wiped away
    Chris

    • Chris:
My thoughts and prayers are with you. So difficult what you are going thru with your Dad. I agree with Sue, and like her I see it as what needs to be done. But all in your time. Even if you can deal with it. You know in your mind and heart what must be done, and that is what you will do when the time comes. SOmething we all have to face, but really none of use want to.
I guess I have seen so much over the years and lost so many close to me that it has become a practicality to me. “Things you must do before moving on”. Right now I am looking into burial insurance for me, trying to make sure things are neatly done for the kdis in case something happens. You just never know do you ?
I bet your Dad just wants to be with your GS and show him off a bit. GS will take care …just give him a few hints and let him go. It will be good for him to be responsible for your Dad. So glad you have that joy in your life. Grands are wonderful.
      Love
      Tonie

    • Chris, does your Dad’s appointment for the injection mean that you won’t get your weekend away? Can someone else take him? I agree, your GS seems like he should be able to handle his Grandfather’s behavior. Good kid.
Yes, it is an odd and lost kind of feeling when one’s family members begin to pass. I have only one sister left and that’s it. Jim lost all of his family when Uncle Harry passed a couple of years ago. Thank God for the ongoing nature of life and our children and grands, huh? Shared history is best passed along. Wish more young people were more interested in their family histories. Some are whereas others figure out the importance of family when it’s too late. SUch is the nature of life. Hope you get your weekend at the shed dear girl. Love, Sue

  2. Well my dad sounds good this morning with it and gurgle free……that’s how parkinsons seems to be
I think it depends on the timing of the meds AND if he takes them.but it’s a worsening problem
    Dentist now for me
    Chris

    • Chris, sounds good. Hope all goes well at the dentist. I have an appointment coming up in a week or two. Dread. Take care..Sue

  3. • Hey Jennie, the blog was full so it started a new page. At the bottom it should have a note that says older comments so you can go there and see the older comments. I hope you can find it. Have a Blessed day Jennie. LOVE YOU. Donna

    • Jennie, Donna has a point worth trying.
I feel the same way about cooking but find I now have to plan ahead, prepare ahead of time if I cook at all. Sometimes we have to to get what we want, right? I love to cook Chinese but it’s so much work…all that chopping. Be good and remember we all love you, Sue

    • SO HAPPY JENNIE POO YOU HAD YOUR FRIENDS OVER AND MADE A CHINESE MEAL FOR THEM. COOKING USE TO DO THE SAME FOR ME. I SHOULD GIVE IT A TRY AGAIN.

HAPPY SUNDAY TO ALL AND GOD BLESS.

  4. Tonie, sounds like you have made up your mind about Red. Why not? You have a lot of knowledge about horses and a lot of love to give. Interesting the way paths open for us, isn’t it? Bet Baby would like the camaraderie. I also hope your weather begins to come around to spring so you can get those seeds planted. I know how tired you are of the cold, snow and ice. Glad you found someone to take a look at the tooth and see what can be done for it and you. I had this happen to the only tooth I have so far had to have a root canal on and had to end up having it pulled.
Hope all is going well with all the kids. Glad you got down to the birthday party. Take care and be good to yourself. Love, Sue

  5. Sue
My dad says he’s not going to have the inj now..so that’s good..and he sounds much better again

Right gonna watch some tv read paper and hopefully some shuteye!
    Chris

    • Chris, this sounds good all the way around. Glad you had an easier time at the dentist and so pleased your Dad changes his injection time. Glad he is doing better right now.
I hope you have a great trip to the shed as much as I hope you aren’t reading this right now because you should be sleeping. I know you get so little of that. Your tea shop sounds so lovely and I’ll wager it is. Dream now of your coming weekend dear lady. Love, Sue

      • CHRIS HAPPY TO HEAR YOUR DAD IS DOING A LITTLE BETTER. MAKES YOUR LIFE EASIER ALSO.
HOPE YOU ARE ENJOYING THE WEEKEND.
        LOVE YOU BIG.
        GOD BLESS YOU SWEETHEART.

  6. Hi everybody, Jennie, I hope you figured out how to get to the older comments. Of course everybody’s computer is different . I use the Kindle Fire and It is different than my computer. I’m sure there is a way to get to the older comments. Chris, so glad you are going to the shed. I pray that you have a great time and there won’t be any problems at home while you are away. Please try and have a good time. Enjoy your breakfast at the tea shop. Tonie , have you decided on the horse yet? Get him or not, that is the question. I hope your tooth can be saved and not have to be pulled. Sue, how are you doing? I hope you are a little better each day with your back.I like to cook too. Like you, the prep work can take up a lot of time plus it is hard on my hands. I am so blessed that my DH wants to do all the cooking. He fixes great meals and desserts. He can make the best coconut pie you have ever eaten. I finally got my van out on the road to get it inspected and he can’t get the service engine light to go out so He can finish inspecting. I was able to get a 10 day temporary tag to get it fixed. I will put it back in the shop on Monday so He can get it fixed.I got a chance to have a late lunch with 2 of my good friends that are also breast cancer survivors. We had a great time and laughed until our stomachs hurt. The highlight of the meal is when I knocked a full cup of coffee over in my lap and down my leg. At least it wasn’t hot enough to burn me. However I was wet and cold all the way home. It was cold and raining and that made it really uncomfortable. I am home and dry and warm. I hope everyone else is staying warm.
I love all of you and hugs to everyone. I pray everyone sleeps good tonight. LOVE, Donna

    • Hey Donna/Sue:
I have to talk to the owner of Red tomorrow and see if he is still gonna bring him over. I may stop by there again tomorrow as I go to work out and see him again. Rainy and cold here, but supposed to warm up a bit tomorrow. I baked a lemon cake today and made me some pickled eggs. I love them 🙂
Jennie, hope you are getting on good. Chris, glad you had a good time today as well as you Donna. Janet where are you hiding ?
I am SOOO tired of this weather, I will stay outside as much as I can when it gets warm. I got Baby’s tack almost finished. I have misplaced a piece of leather I got for the saddle which holds her cinch in place !! Have no idea where I put it ! I must find it or get another one. ANYHOW. water workout in the am, have some shopping to do. Hopefully I will get some work done this weekend. Next week I have 3 days in a row of appts, and I want to work out the other two 🙂 I have high hopes, we will see what my body thinks of all this !
      Love to you all
      Tonie

      • Tonie, You sound very ambitious. So much working out will undoubtedly be good for you if you can do it. Hope it goes well for you. Also hope you get Red if it’s meant to be. Sounds like his current owner is pretty attached. You’d make a good mama.
Sounds like you have many doctors/dentists to see as do I. Constantly in need of repair, huh?
Hope you find the piece of leather you’re looking for. It’s probably in an obvious place. Seems to happen to me more and more each day. Keep up those high hopes…sounds good. Love you, Sue

    • Oh Donna, Coffee a la lap. Sounds uncomfortable. What a way to end a lovely meal with friends. Glad you’re getting out and about. It’s a fine thing to have friends you can laugh with. Hope you’re getting signs of spring now and that the bad weather is out.
I’m moving slowly. Donna, may I ask how long it took you to be rid of the pain in the affected arm from your mastectomy? I’m still having poor use of that arm and shoulder. Back is much the same. Always good to hear from you. Love ya, Sue

      • Hi Sue, sorry you feel bad. I am sorry that you are still having trouble with your arm. You should begin to have more use with that arm. Are you still exercising the arm? That is so important. Unfortunately for me, I developed the lymphedema so my arm and shoulder hurts all the time. It could be from the rheumatoid arthritis as well. It is difficult to figure out what is causing the pain.
It does get frustrating at times. I tend to think it is the lymphedema. You should start feeling better soon. I just hope and pray that you don’t get the lymphedema. Take good care of that arm. Keep lotion on it. Try not to carry anything heavy in that arm. LOVE and hugs to you. Donna

  7. Tonie
Well go at a speed you can do ok? Hope all goes well and you find your bit of tackle you lost somewhere..I think I probably could have put that better!!
    Donna
Yea it will all go well I’m sure when away.its like playing at dolls house! It sounds like you had a good time out …..good times with friends is magic

It gives 14-16 c this w,end…but windy ,but whatever ..no matter.hope your virus is winding its way away
Well gonna watch a bit of tv…I’m a news addict
I’ll be at the shed for next post .but if not its becos I’ve got trouble resigning into the satellite wifi there…oh but just thought I can anyway get thru on my new phone and that’ll be on this 4G thingy.
I hate trying to understand all this tech stuff my brain moves too slow
    See you later Chris

    • Chris, glad you got some good sleep. I don’t know how you do it. My dear, compared to me you are a computer genius. I don’t even have a smart phone. I have a dumb flip phone for emergencies only. I know I should know more than I do but am stone deaf when it comes to these matters. I think I’ve simply had too much to deal with this year and my brain is on overload. Hope you get your devices worked out at the shed so you can keep us informed but even if not, know you’ll have some good times and hopefully, more good rest for both of you. Got to keep DH’s B/P down. Leave all your cares behind, okay? Love, Sue

  8. Oh I’ve looked at blog on new phone and it comes up different..not sure how to reply on it.if it looks awkward I won’t wanna mess it up for my iPad..these things tend to play up…so fingers crossed It will all go well with new password for wifi

    • HEY CHRIS I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON MY NEW IPAD. PAIN IN THE BUTT. STILL TRYING TO FIGURE THINGS OUT. GRANDS COME OVER AND THEY CAN DO ANYTHING AND WAY TO FAST FOR ME TO FOLLOW. HOPE THINGS CONTINUE TO GO WELL FOR YOU CHRIS.
      TAKE GOOD CARE
      LOVEYOU! XXX

  9. Good morning all:
Chris, enjoy your weekend at the shed. I know what you mean about all the phone stuff. SO different huh ? Do you have an I Phone ? That is what I got this time, so different from the Blackberry I was used to. But live and learn huh ?
Well, got my bloodwork numbers back and surprisingly all are good. No inflammation like my body is telling me should be there. Must just be the FMS then. RA flare and FMS flare are so similar it is hard to know. Just know I don’t feel good 😦 Well, at least the sun is out and tomorrow should be nice and warm (in the 50’s). So go and have a wonderful day all, smile at someone.
    Love to all
    Tonie

    • OH TONIE, HOPE YOU WILL FEEL BETTER SOON. PRAYING FOR YOU SWEET PEA.
WE STILL HAVE TONS OF SNOW CAN’T WAIT FOR IT TO DISAPPEAR. WANT TO PLAY IN THE DIRT.
SOON I WILL BE STARTING MY SEEDS INDOORS. JUST DON’T WANT TO START TOO SOON.
ANXIOUS TO HEAR MORE ABOUT RED.
HOPE YOU ALSO HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY.
      LOVE YOU BIG. XXX

  10. Donna, thanks for the answers. Yes, I do exercise it each day and I have no signs of lymphedema thus far, just same old saggy fat underarms. I was once told by a doctor that is genetic. Thanks Mom and grandma for that. Lotion, yes, when I remember I use Vitamin E oil cream mixed with many other things. Guess each of us are different. My surgery was wrapped extra tight because I hemorrhaged during surgery. That could be part of it and the limitations with the back. Just falling apart I guess…who am I kidding, I KNOW. Love Sue

  11. Tonie
I’ve got a Nokia phone…and I am so pleased I got it now that I’m used to it….still can’t get over emails and txts on same phone
Good your bloods came back good ,even if your body says not so…..

Well it all got sorted out soo easy that no hair pulling was required to fix wifi
    So here I am
No sue I ain’t no good at this stuff ,it’s not technical this stuff it gets real personal and testy
So all done at shed beds made, shopping done..and chairs out on decking..hopeful

Oh I’ve seen some of you are having bad weather over there on news…hope all ok
Well try and go to sleep ….
    Chris

  12. Chris, so glad you made it to the shed. Looks like you have been busy. You have everything done except for the cooking tomorrow. Are you going to roast the pots and parsnips with the chicken? Sounds like a wonderful meal and easy. That is good now you can relax for the weekend. I think it is great that you got a new TV to watch. I hope your weather will be nice. I hope you have a great weekend and go home rested. LOVE and hugs, Donna

    LOVE JENNIE XXX

    • Jennie, Glad you got some sun today. So did I. Also pleased you got the older blog entries. It is hard to stay up with all at times, I know. I got a slow start today. George had me up at 4AM when I was awakened by dog poo odor. He had a mess caught on his hairy tush so I had to give him a sink bath at that hour. Lovely. Then we both eventually went back to sleep and Jim slept through it, lucky him. He can’t smell so it didn’t bother him. Isn’t life an adventure at times with our critters. So now that spring is upon us, how does your garden grow? Good to hear from you. Love, Sue

  15. Oh, Sue, what an awful thing to wake up to. I didn’t get much sleep last night either. Awake for no good reason, then as often happens, the longer I’m awake, the more I start to ache. Ah, well. Did finally get back to sleep and allowed myself to sleep in longer than usual to try to make up for as much as I could. Naturally, tonight we turn our clocks ahead an hour. Wouldn’t you know it.

Chris, I think you asked about SB. He’s doing ok. He sold his first car today! And almost sold a second. Busy day for them, as Saturdays usually are. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hit the hay early tonight. He’s pooped. His back was bothering him throughout the day. He got DH to rub his upper back when he got home.

Thinking this could possibly be our last snow, I treated Sadie to a walk on the trail today in the snow (it also helps with keeping her clean. Very dirty walking on the streets right now.) She had a blast! I’ll be paying the price, but seeing her dear face – so worth it.

    • OH SUE DARLING, SEEMS LIKE WE ARE ALL FALLING APART , DIFFERENTLY BUT STILL FALLING.
HOPE YOU START TO FEEL A LITTLE LESS PAIN EVERYDAY. HEALING PRAYERS FOR YOU MY FRIEND.
LOVE YOU SUE. DO TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOU. OH JUST LOVED THE BLOG. NO MORE WHINING FOR ME. (LOL)
      GOD BLESS. XXX

      • Suzanne, Glad you liked the blog. You’re allowed to whine…we all are. Good to hear from you. How’s it going with your dear aunt? Hope life gets easier for you as spring descends. Snow shoes, huh? What a good but vigorous exercise. Yes, I think I’m getting a bit better each day. Some days not so much. Life is hard at times and we each know that, don’t we? Good to hear from you and know you’re still hanging in there with us. Love, Sue

    • HI LYN, HAPPY TO HEAR YOU GOT A LITTLE MORE SLEEP. YEP WE TURNED THE CLOCKS FORWARD TONIGHT, WELL NOW IT’S SUNDAY MORNING HERE AND I GOT UP AN HOUR LATER WHICH BASICLY MEANS I GOT UP AT MY USUAL TIME.
GOOD FOR SB. HE SEEMS TO BE WORKING VERY HARD. HOPE HIS BACK FEELS BETTER SOON.
HAPPY TO HEAR YOU BROUGHT SADIE FOR A WALK. SAD WE ALWAYS HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE. UP HERE WE ARE STILL SNOWSHOEING. WE GO EVERYDAY, NEED TO KEEP MY MUSCLES STRONG BUT ALWAYS PAY THE PRICE NO MATTER WHAT.
YOU TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF LYN. LOVE YOU LOTS\
      GOD BLESS. XXX

    • Lyn, Awe yes, George and I had quite an early morning yesterday. It was really cute how he just sat down, rather gratefully, in the sink.
Glad you have the clean snow to walk Sadie in and know it must be such a happy habit for both of you. I didn’t realize SB was selling cars. He must have a cheery, outgoing personality to do that. Good for him. I am sorry to hear his back is still acting up.
Shouldn’t be long before your snow starts to melt. Lovely here today. Yesterday I finally got out in the sun on the porch and dead headed some winter survivors. Jim waxed his car…so spring is here. Have a good day dear friend. Love, Sue

  16. Good morning all:
Didn’t get on here yesterday. Woke up to a busy day. Red got delivered early yesterday morning. Boy was he a different horse than the one I saw. All pumped up and ready to go. Baby had to assert her dominance immediately. I have to feed him WAY away from her. She won’t allow him near the “feeding” fence. Picked up my 16ft gate I bought to go in the repaired fence. Planted my seeds. Cleaned up dog poop, then I was “pooped”. Bathed the dogs last night so they are sweet smelling and clean. Sue I got that rinse for their teeth, it works GREAT. How often do you use it ? It had no reference to that. I also got rabies vaccine to give them. (yes you can buy that online as well) It even comes with the tags.
CHris , I must say I am quite jealous of your shed. Sounds like such fun ! Jennie, glad you got your sunny day. We are getting increasing temps, which is so good by me.
Well, gotta get ready for church ! Hope everyone set their clocks SPRING Forward last night !!
    Love to all !!
    Tonie

    • Tonie, What a day. Glad you got Red and hope Baby gets her nose back in joint soon…jealous, huh? How big a garden are you planning? If you’re spreading fertilizer with a garden tractor it sounds pretty big. Glad you like that tooth rinse for the dogs. Yes, it is good and we use it on Jake just about everyday but his teeth are terrible and he’s old. Probably once or twice a week would do as prevention. Hope spring gets there soon. Love, Sue

      • Sue, spreading the fertilzer in the fields where the horses are at 🙂 My garden is not that big at all. Too much work 🙂 Baby’s stomach disorder causes her to poop twice as much as normal. SO.I have to do something about it. BUT.. it is all cloudy and yukky today, supposed to rain for the next two..so I am probably not gonna be able to get started on it. Oh well, tell the truth I am not feeling good today, so it is not in the cards. THat is the way it goes….first your money and then your clothes 🙂
        Have a good day
        Love ya
        Tonie

  17. Suzanne:
Looking good to see you on here. Miss you when you are not. Red is out there in the field now. He came up for some attention a while ago, as did Baby. It will take them a while to bond.
Oh man….I took my sister out to eat Chinese for lunch (we have been trying to do this since our birthdays), and I am so FULL !! This is the best one around here, I think. LOVE their egg rolls. DIdn’t eat that much but I still ate a lot 🙂 if that makes sense. This day has gone so fast….almost time to go back to church. Easter is staring us in the face, unreal. Seems like Christmas was just over. Oh well, I will be so glad to have warm weather.
Tomorrow’s big plan is to rake the fields and spread the poop out some. Using my lawn tractor and Judy’s rake. Will take a while with that, but at least I can get a start
    Take care all
    Tonie

    • TONIE…….MY MY, HOW ON EARTH DO YOU MANAGE ALL THOSE CRITTERS, I STRUGGLE WITH ONE DOG….AND I WOULD SO LOVE TO HAVE ANOTHER, BUT TWO ON A LEAD PULLING AT MY ARMS IS A BIT TOO MUCH…….SO BABY RULES THE ROOST, WELL WE GALS USUALLY DO……ENJOY THEM ALL, HARD WORK AND ALL…..LOVE JENNIE X

    • Tonie, I am sorry you aren’t feeling well today. Do you think it’s weather related? Yes, I remember poor Baby’s bad gut due to her past, poor thing. I just thought maybe you were readying a part for the garden but wonder if you’re quite up for it. Glad you and Judy got out for a Chinese feast. Hope it all digested well. I love Chinese food if it’s fresh and good but don’t always love it the next day as many folks do. I love the Chinese dumplings and sweet and sour shrimp. So good. Now I’m hungry. Think I’ll make some strogranoff for dinner. If I go easy on the steak part I will probably manage okay. It’s aggravating having to watch everything you eat, you know? We’ve been having lots of fog. Love the forlorn sound of the fog horns and in the morning it looks like it has rained. Jim took the weekend off of on call and got our cars cleaned up. He even took today off to clean out patio and back porch. They’re green with moss and winter. I just bathed George and am now recovering. He looks better but still needs a professional grooming, poor thing. Not sure how he will react since it’s been awhile. He just looks like a little furball. Do rest today dear friend and feel better. Same old body here. Love you, Sue

  18. SUE……HOW IS YOUR GARDEN LOOKING? SPRING IS SUCH HARD WORK PLANTING AND SO ON, BUT ALWAYS WELCOME, YOU GET OUT WHAT YOU PUT IN DON’T YOU?
POOR LITTLE GEORGE, AND POOR YOU, UP AT THAT TIME OF NIGHT/MORNING, DID HE LOOK SHAMEFACED?? YOU KNOW THAT HANG DOG LOOK……..
WHY IS IT WE GET TWO LOVELY DAYS, THEN TEMPERATURES PLUMMET AGAIN, WHAT’S IT DOING WHERE YOU ARE?
ARE YOU FEELING OK LOVE? I KNOW THINGS ARE STILL A BIT UP AND DOWN FOR YOU……MUCH LOVE…JENNIE XX

    • Jennie dear, first of all let me clarify I do nothing in the yard. I can’t. We have a kind Vietnamese gardener who pulls the bulbs once they bloomed…all wild. I think the little bit I do do, the front porch I will retain but will pass the large pots on the patio over to him to clean out the weeds so the plants can breathe. We had such a mild winter. My huge crimson camellia bush is still flourishing, the ground beneath a carpet of red, our many hydrangeas and rhodies are leafing out and daffodils are popping up everywhere. I cleaned and pruned a few things on the porch and the only plants we lost this year were from drowning. Our front porch is covered so they all did well. Lavender will come back for certain.
You can bet George got his tushie shaved the next day while looking quite degraded as Jim held him and I handled the trimmer. He’s usually a pathetic looking little ball of fuzz and could never make it at a dog show but is still adorable. I gave him a bath today, try to once a week. Now I’m lying down, paying the price but that is life. Jim took today off to do more around here and is now out back on our brick patio accosting the moss. If we didn’t have so much fog it would feel more spring like here but it burns off to a lovely day about noon. We have a cool wind but sun. Rain is expected on Wed. Now that is more like it. Rain and Oregon are twins. Yes dear, things are up and down as am I. Love, Sue

    • Chris, hope you all have found the new blog that was posted today. I’m pleased you get to stay at the coast an extra day. Yeah. Hopefully the weather perked up for you both to enjoy a bit of sun. Did you buy a potted flower? Bet you did if you have spring fever. I think my DH has it. He’s been cleaning the cars, etc. Enjoy your book in your clean shed and have a wonderful visit. Love, Sue

  20. Hi all, just popping in to say hi!
Really not too much to say as I have been up to very little. I did have the MRI of my back at 2 am last week (they run the machine 24/7)but the results aren’t back yet! The pain in my neck/head continues as well as the back/hip pain that I am hoping the MRI will shine a light on. I have been out of the house very little this winter, which has been very cold. I have been to Costco twice since Christmas but had to use a scooter which I hoped I would never have to use again after my feet and knee surgeries but I have learned to never say never! Most days the pain in my neck and head keep me in bed most of the time, but if I do get up I am unable to walk very far due to back pain which goes into my hip and down my left leg to my knee … I guess I am whining, right ? I am still waiting to see a neurosurgeon but the one I have been referred to has a waiting list it seems, and I have been told to watch for decreased strength in my arms and hands or tripping, and so far so good.
The kids went up to the cottage last weekend as the ice is very thick and they were able to drive over to the island. They put a hot fire in the stove trying to warm up the cottage and the heat on our new steel roof caused the snow to slide off and the force of the snow damaged the front deck. The frame of our gazebo out front was also damaged so it can no longer go on the front deck, so there are repairs waiting in spring! Little Neve was putting her snow suit on when the snow came crashing down and if she had been on the deck she would have been severely hurt so this can never happen again.
As far as the smart phones go, DH has the old flip phone like you do Sue for emergencies, and so the kids (or me) can reach him when he is out. Tonie, you now have two horses!!! I can’t imagine how busy you must be with all your critters. Chris, I smiled when you said you put your deck chairs out at the shed … we would be putting our chairs out in a snow drift right now. I don’t know how things will go at the cottage this summer but I do know that DH has a new folding ramp in the garage that can be used with my wheelchair so I guess I can rest there as well as at home, and it is only March and hopefully there are better days ahead! I know he has wanted a ramp there just in case something happens that I might need it and we usually do have a wheelchair there for the summer … just in case and did need it one week last summer! Lyn, I can picture you and Sadie taking that walk in the fresh snow! I don’t know what I would have done without my two fur balls to cuddle this past winter. And Sue, I can also picture you giving George a bath in the middle of the night! out house it is me who can’t smell very well which was sometimes a good thing in my nursing career, but DH has a very good sense of smell. Teddi came to us as a puppy with pumpkin in his diet and we have continued with it as they really like it, it is healthy, and it also greatly cuts down on those unexpected baths at odd hours of the day. Time to go …..
Love and Hugs to everyone ……Pommum Brenda

    • Pommum, wonderful to hear from you and aren’t you full of news. Thank the good Lord that little Neve wasn’t outside when that snow fell from the roof and caused such damage. I am sorry you have to face repairs on the spring visit but thankfully you have a very clever man who can do what’s needed.
We give our dogs green beans as their vegie bulk and they love them and always eat them first. I think it was my fault because I should have shaved his little hairy tushie sooner. Jake always eats well but little finicky man has to play with his food first. We usually feed them on a paper plate but feed George upstairs and I’m tired of digging his plate out from under the bed, the dresser, etc. He does the same with treats and give him a chewy small bone and he first of all runs off to bury it in plain site, somewhat like a two year old would hide Easter eggs. So funny. Poor Jake is staring down his 14th birthday and quite thin so I don’t know how much longer we’ll have him with us.
My dear girl, I know you’ve had an awful winter and yes, I do identify completely although I know you have so many problems besides your back. An MRI at 2AM???Oh my. Well, at least you had it done. Is that typical of Canadian medicine? Our hospitals are strictly nine to five. I pray you get some answers and some relief. Is the toe better? Love to you and DH as well as the darling Poms. Love you, Sue

  21. Hey everyone! I don’t post much because my pain from my pinched nerve has gone away since I fell and my head snapped back hard. The doctors don’t recommend the cure, but it worked for now. Apparently arthritis grew a deposit between two vertebrae, hence the pinched nerve. I enjoy reading about your suggestions and solutions. I rejoice in the improvement some of you have, and cry with those who are suffering. Please don’t think of me as a lookie loo. I said once I don’t belong in the group because my major pain is gone and Sue said to stay. This last weekend was my birthday. My husband treated me royally. In addition to two dinners and one brunch at restaurants, we attended a choral concert and The Sound Of Music presented by a wonderful high school group. Today I was the Good Samaritan for a friend, taking her to two appointments since she had her eyes dilated. We enjoyed lunch out and a nice chat, to give me another wonderful day! I live in California where it is sunny and warm. That warmth helps alleviate the other aches I have caused by going around the sun 72 times.

    • Kathy, always good to hear from you. Glad you’re still having so much sun. I lived down there most of my life but can’t say I miss it.We love the spaces and natural beauty of OR. Good thing we don’t all like the same places or they’d be terribly crowded. Glad you had such a wonderful birthday. Sounds like you have a very special man there…better hand onto him. I love the Sound of Music, don’t you? Stay well and come back. Fondly, Sue
