‘TIS THE SEASON…FOR CHANGE

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, Hallmark films are so delightful, if you want to sing this song, come along, hum along, sing along. As for me, I love this season and always have, however…We’ll get to that.

Funny, but I don’t recall the famous drawing by Norman Rockwell of the family gathered around the Thanksgiving table having anyone with a wound, a missing limb, a cane or any other malformed function. His Christmas pictures as well  always involved the ideal, the classic and the totally idyllic images of American culture. For most of us, preparing to go into the holiday, we are riddled with more imperfections than a plucked turkey with goose bumps out in the cold. Can a turkey have goose bumps? Guess that’s a question for another time.

I remember as a youngster being delighted with making a turkey out of a potato at school by placing paper feathers or chicken feathers on his potato tush and looking forward to all that the holidays implied. The food was so delicious and the aromas that filled the house were so enticing and leftovers, well let’s say, they remain my favorite. I love the tartness of homemade cranberry sauce laced with fresh orange peel and a touch of candied ginger. I have a passion for cornbread stuffing rich with the drippings of a fat turkey. You don’t worry about cholesterol on Thanksgiving Day; or at least you shouldn’t have to.

Thanksgiving is and should be a time of reflection and gratefulness for the many abundant gifts most of us have in America. Sometimes that gets lost in the fervor of all the work for many family members and the possible divisions in some families. It also signals the fact that the big holiday is on the way as Christmas is not far behind, it’s sleigh bells jingling on the heels of turkey day. Some of us welcome the sudden onset of Christmas and some of us do not.

I confess I am one who has always loved decorating early and massively for Christmas. It’s a season of such joy, color and magic, I just plain love it. We have ornaments and decorations which are very old, all connected to some wonderful memory and some, given to us or made by some beloved friend or relative. Yes, I am a Christian and also believe it to be a sacred celebration for those of us who believe in the Christ child and also believe it can be a magically wonderful time when beautiful and mystical things, attitudes and outlooks can prevail. It is a birthday celebration of the highest caliber, designation and often, expense.

A lesson I learned early as a young mother was it doesn’t take a lot of money to have a blessed and memorable holiday season but it does take a lot of work. That’s why I learned over the years to plan ahead, cook ahead of time, and shop early while there are still bargains to be had but I have never learned to wrap packages early. That’s a lesson I hope to teach myself this year. Wish those big gift bags weren’t so expensive.

It’s been a difficult year and a half for me with my health on top of 25 previous years of problems and I find myself in a position where I cannot possibly do all the baking, shopping and entertaining I once did. I miss those days and often grieve for them but realize I must get on with the business of living in the present and will try to do just that. I’m going to try to count my blessings and think about what I can do, not what I can do no longer.

I know many of you, my friends, also face challenges with your health problems and must be facing many of these same questions regarding what you must change, can’t change and indeed will change, albeit kicking and screaming. I urge you not to torture yourselves for the sake of tradition. Let us try to remember this is a time of togetherness and hope; a time of family love and generosity but not indebtedness, and most of all a time of memories. Some of those memories are painful but the majority of them are full of joy. Life cannot be all frosted ginger cookies and pumpkin pie slathered with whipped cream therefore we need to remember there is robust joy in a good pickle or relish, now and then.

Life moves along and drags us with it; all too often as we are resisting but the calendar doesn’t seem to be aware of our reticence. Like a runaway sleigh with us holding on for dear life we are going to a new destination. Life never stands still, like a reindeer munching on hay or crunching an apple or carrot. What do we resist? Change, pain and moderation via compromise are part of us as we grieve for who we used to be. Grief has its season and we must beware and attempt to keep it in its place. Certainly the holidays are full of memories and can touch off grief, but life is memories. What else do we share, take with us from this world and hold most dear?

It’s not compromise if you cannot do as much as you once did. I know. It feels like compromise but if you’re upright, breathing and have a beating heart, enjoy those facts. Remember to be thankful, not resentful. You’ll spoil all of the holidays for yourself, for others and yes, for me. I’ll know. Magic sparks fly out when you’re happy. Have you learned nothing from me all of these years? Many of us have new concerns, new pain or more than we had previously. These cannot be excuses for brushing off this wonderful, joyous season. So many of us have to learn what it is to say the word “NO.” Cutting back on the budget, our time and our energy; these are not sins, lawbreakers or even bad things. They are just change and it is human nature to always resist change, especially if it is not a change we chose.

There are easier ways to wrap, to cook, to bake and to shop. I’m not able to get out and shop this year, nor was I able to last year and with many apologies to the local merchants; most of my shopping this year will be bargain hunting online. Getting to the post office is also difficult so I don’t think I’ll be sending out greeting cards this year. That doesn’t mean I can’t call or send an email to a dear friend in greeting. Many friends and family of the younger generation don’t send out cards any longer anyway. You see, life is always moving on.

There are so many factors in chronic pain and disease that can cause us to lose joy in this life such as stress, depression and sometimes, reading too much on the internet about our individual conditions. It is literally possible to make a condition worse by scaring ourselves. Too much information can sometimes be worse than not enough. We need to use caution all year long and anytime we get information. Just because it’s online doesn’t mean you or I have a certain condition, neither does it mean we will react like someone else reacts.

My friends, I urge you to suck each morsel out of each moment you can and not be dragged down into the morass of negativity due to loneliness, pain or health worries. I know most of us in the free, developed world have many fears this year and have for some time but we can’t let it win by taking the joy from life. Courage has to become our new byword in today’s society as we skate forward, being aware of any and all holes in the ice, fully knowing we can’t spot each danger but doing our best to avoid the thin layers of ice.

Please have a wonderful, most blessed Thanksgiving and don’t be afraid to embrace the beginnings of the Christmas season, the most joyous time of the year. What’s wrong with stretching it out a bit? I know I could use a bit more Christmas spirit in my life this year, how about you?

Well how good was that….it was fabulous…makes you think of the past ,how we were and to think of how we have this moment ..and not to let it go
We are going to have an easy Xmas ,no organising.shops are open mostly if we forget something,so why worry
I’m trying to feel good about it all ,I suppose the trick is to not think! Just live in the moment
At least I have some presents ,not that many to get really
I just hope for health and everyone on here to enjoy the festive time
But it was a good read Sue and I’m going back to read it again
    Chris

    • Yes Chris, All we really have is the current moment. I know it takes a certain amount of planning ahead and sometimes I find that overwhelming. Lists help a bit when my mind gets a bit jumbled. Our Christmas will also be a bit quiet with our small family. I sometimes get caught up in buying too much because I want our Christmas to be festive and I forget it’s not just about the gifts but with children that’s a hard lesson to learn. I always buy a couple of funny gifts just to lighten the mood even more. Last year I got red reindeer noses for everyone. The year before that I bought “fart” putty and even the adults enjoyed that. What will it be this year? Don’t know yet. Have to put on my thinking cap.
Hang in there my dear. I am glad things are better with your Dad and know once you get his speech or letter speech written you will feel better. Love you, Sue

  2. Sue this is like a permission slip to my brain to take care of myself and my dad not just go with what we’ve always done. I love my Christmas tree especially but no longer decorate all the rooms including the bathroom. I gave up cards a few years ago as writing by hand is torturous even with large barrel ink pens. I’m still torn about driving dad to my sister’s place (6 hour round trip) so he can see his great grandchildren but….I’m having a somewhat physically difficult time, have to spend time in uncomfortable chairs, eat food that will cause gut issues and take days to recover. Balancing that with the reality that at 81 dad doesn’t have an unlimited number of Christmas left (me either for that matter) I’m sor of darned if I do and darned if I don’t. Well I have a few days to figure out what to do. I usually have everyone’s gifts wrapped by now and haven’t even thought about what for who. I need to get my butt in gear. Well written Sue

    • Laura, I know. You do have a difficult decision to make. Why are you the only one who can take your Dad? Is there no one else? I’m assuming there is not. I know your Dad is a great guy and would understand if you find you just can’t do the trip. Isn’t this the age old question we each face? How much can we do and knowing it will cause more pain do we or can we do it anyway? I’m sorry. Just know each of us understand completely. Wish we could give you permission to stay put but we also know your Dad’s joy is important to you. Just know you can only do so much and only you know how much that is. Love, Sue

  3. Wonderful Sue
I think of the last few years and how my holidays haves changed. But it is good this change that has taught me again the importance of love, family, friendship, and sharing.
This year I will get to be with all my family. At some time over Christmas. Thanksgiving at my daughters with my pies and dressing. Much to be grateful for. Limiting my work has become part of my life. Realizing my limitations and trying to stay with them. Well we all know we push that envelope don’t we ?
I had my first injection yesterday. So far it is helping. Next side is dec7! We went shopping some and he helped me pick out a dress for Christmas. That was fun. Been a long time. It is gonna be rough when he leaves again. But things have to happen. Love to you all this cold clear day in va.
    Tonie

    • Tonie, well, well. Shopping for clothes for you, specifically a dress, that’s very intimate. I love it. Hope you love the dress. Sounds like you’re having such a good time together and we each are so happy for you. Please don’t over do now and let the injections work for you. So far it sounds like they are working for you. Enjoy life my dear friend. Love ya, Sue

    Chris

    • Chris, no sounds up above, only caught one rat thus far. Cold and clear here today after a chilly rain last night. Later, Sue

  6. Well it’s wet here and I feel cold.not so cold outside today tho
.ive got ibs of sorts.got the discomfort..prob from the softener I take from Drs ..but it works good.
Or from the the reason I gotta take it!
Taking a spasmodic and got heat on it
Going to go out for a cheese scone tomorrow ,we’re both feeling a bit down…life I spose
But met carer and she’s lovely. She bakes cakes too In my dads kitchen and gets on well with all there at centre
She tells me what she does and keeps me up to date
Apparently her mum had Parkinson’s and she left work to look after her in her country. She was a teacher and her husband Is still there as a teacher and she goes back every so many months
They seem to do this I think to earn more money to save
She likes sport too so watches it all with my dad on TV
Well gonna try and get to sleep…..magic potion please…..
    Chris

    • Hi Chris, wrote you a long reply but apparently forgot to send it as got some FB stuff at the same time so will try again. Your Dad’s latest caregiver sounds so lovely. I’m so pleased she is making him happy and watching sports and baking cakes, etc. It sounds like a good fit for her, also. We never know what other folks are going through, do we? It’s good to share I think and then we can’t feel as sorry for ourselves. I know that works for me.
Had the grands after school today and now getting ready to turn in. Jim is working at the jail right now but should be home soon. GD has a birthday next week and all I have for her are Christmas things so had to get cranking on good old AMazon tonight and order some things. I just don’t seem very much on the ball lately for some reason. Will make pecan chocolate pie tomorrow and cook cranberry sauce and poor DD will have most of the work to do the next day. I did make some cornbread for her to save her some time today for the turkey stuffing. Those southern roots of ours have to have cornbread stuffing. Do take care and hope you’re resting well and better now. Love, Sue

    • CHRIS….YOUR DAD’S CARER SOUNDS LIKE A REAL DIAMOND, AND YOUR DAD SEEMS TO HAVE FALLEN ON HIS FEET THIS TIME….I HOPE SHE STICKS AROUND, YOU GET PEACE OF MIND AND DAD GETS PROPERLY CARED FOR…..A WIN WIN SITUATION……HOPE THE IBS IS LEAVING YOU ALONE TODAY…..LOVE JEN X

    • Thanks Jennie, Hope you are feeling better. We’ll do our best to have a good day. I have a cracked tooth and will have to eat carefully. No pecan pie for me. I just get to bake it. Being with family will be the thing. Love you, Sue

  7. Morning all
Another cold frosty one here. But supposed to warm up for the next couple of days. I made chocolate pies last night Sue. Tonight butterscotch. And have to chop things for the dressing. We always had a combo of leftover biscuits and cornbread for dressing. I just use stale white bread now.
Chris / Jennie. Not sure what day he is leaving. Probably the 5th or so. His bday is the 3rd. And he will be here for that. Leaves for France on the 13th so must be in Fla before that. He is quite the handyman. Been helping me a lot getting things done. He is going to enclose the bottom of my deck next week.
Chris I am glad things are good with your Dad. Where is his carer from ?
Jennie I understand those quiet Christmas’. Mine this year will be hectic I think. Everyone being nearby. I still have shopping to do. Need to finish. Like Sue I shop early and wrap late. Wish the elves would come and do it.
Have a good day all and Happy Thanksgiving
    Love
    Tonie

    • I try to wrap as I go, Tonie, it REALLY helps those hands! Unfortunately, it’s not so helpful in the remembering what’s inside the box department… I have to make “cheat sheets”. 😉 Butterscotch pie – yum!

    • Tonie, oh my but those pies sound so good. I’m sure you’ll find an appreciative audience for them tomorrow. I’ve never heard of biscuits in dressing but it makes perfect sense. I know your mutual dinner tomorrow will be fabulous.
Now as far as your friend being handy, I think if I had to pick out a new man, not that I plan to, well, I would choose handy right after having a good sense of humor. Glad you’re having such a good time together. Yes, you will indeed have a hectic Christmas this year compared to past three years. Hope his birthday is a good one and just hold onto the fact he’ll return soon from France.
If you spot a helpful elf, be sure to send them this way…just go north and west. Much love, Sue

    • HI TONIE……YOUR PLANS SOUND SO EXCITING, I COULD BE AN ELF IF YOU LIKE!!!!!!! YES A QUIET CHRISTMAS, BUT ITS ONLY ONE DAY, HOW I WISH MY CHILDREN COULD BE HERE WITH US, BUT THINGS COULD BE WORSE, SO WILL GET ON AND MAKE THE BEST OF IT….SO THERE WILL BE THREE CELEBRATIONS YOU WILL BE HAVING WITH BERNARD, HOW SPECIAL IS THAT?….LOVE YOU MATEY….JENNIE XX

  8. Sue, I did read yesterday – and enjoyed. 🙂 Just not up to typing. My hands and wrist have been very ornery lately. I need to be careful how I use them and for how long. What a pain. Ha! Literally. I know we must start those preparations for Christmas earlier and earlier now that we can’t do all that we used to. On one hand I like it, I, like you, love the beauty and sparkle of Christmas and Christmas décor, and do enjoy decorating. On the other, Thanksgiving is one of my very favorite holidays, for it is a day of family – related or not – love, reflection, and true gratefulness and thankfulness. The food’s good, too. 😉 This year we are spending Thanksgiving with my side of the family. We try to take turns, as much as possible. Once again, my husband’s family’s Christmas will be at our house on New Year’s Day, so I have started some of my decorating a bit early. Time to rest a bit and see what I can tackle today. Tomorrow I only have to make 2 green bean casseroles – one with mushrooms, one without (my DD gets physically ill if she eats mushrooms, but likes green bean casserole.) 🙂

    • Lyn, I also am fond of green bean casserole. Unfortunately, Beth DH and kids don’t much like it. Should make it anyway. I know you’ve started decorating because of FB. It’s looking good over there. It’s also part of the planning ahead. I wish my tree was up as the heading for the blog shows but I ordered a smaller, rustic artificial country style tree and they screwed up the order. It should arrive next week. I’ll start suggesting to Jim that we get out some of our decorations today. Like you, I do dislike the current state of my body and the limits it entails.
Thanks for asking about the tooth. I don’t know how I broke it. One of my problems has been my teeth and I personally believe it is related to the osteoporosis and the Sjogren’s syndrome. Dry mouth and spongy bones don’t make for good teeth. Hope it can be crowned or as much as I hate it, a root canal. Anything to save the darn tooth.
Hope your hands feel better soon, and wrists? I love to hold mine in a sink filled with very hot water in the morning. Feels so good. Funny how we don’t realize how much we use some parts of our anatomy until we can’t.
Hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving with your family. Sorry you have to bake two casseroles. Oh the things we mother’s do. Love, Sue

  9. Hi
Tonie..she is from Bulgaria .im sure you will gave a good time on your Frenchmans birthday..can we say FM or summat it’s easier ?? Enjoy all your food it sounds so good
    Sue
You have every reason not to be on the ball..but I know you will come up with a great present for your GD
The pecan pie sounds good too..your poor tooth I hope it gets fixed easy .blimmin teeth
I have a hosp appt tomorrow for my sjogrens
Been trying on my smaller! Wardrobe felt good .stuff not worn for a few winters
Bit sad today had words with my dad over the phone .he takes to ringing me up in the early morning and causing a row..or keeps asking me something and not believing me and saying I don’t know all the facts.so I was quite shirty. I’ll take his speech around tomorrow with some photos I had of him.which he accused me of losing even before he knew I still had them.
I know it’s the Parkinson’s ,but it just got me today..it’s just when he sees me he makes faces at me as he doesn’t believe what I advise him ..so all a bit edgy tonite
Well gonna get ready for bed
If I’m not asleep back laterer and all have a good thanksgiving
    Chris

    • Chris dear, oh dear, just as soon as we start to think things are going smoothly and then the old dear has to mess about. I still say you are so patient. How is the speech coming along? Just be as straight and honest and firm as you can be dear and he will come around as best he can but at least you will know you are in the right and doing what is best for him. Just remember it really isn’t him any longer and if he’s angry about anything it is life. Love you lots and thanks, we will try our best to remember to be thankful tomorrow. Sue P.S. I agree with Lyn, it’s splendid that you’ve got your weight down where you want it to be.

  10. Hi folks
Hope your day is going well
I went to hosp appt. and Dr there is going to write an emergency letter to my Dr to prescribe me some gelclair..they give it for sore mouths thru radiation and chemo .but they found it is good for sjogrens ..it is a gargle that coats the mouth. It is expensive £10 a day that’s about $ 15. So I’m pleased I don’t have to pay that.see how it goes …also referring me to a rheumy as she thinks I have fibromyalgia
So there we have it..AND I by mistake just walking by and saw a cost I’ve been wanting i,a parka coat half price in this Black Friday thingy! So not a bad day really
Mite be back later see how I go …I also bought some sweaters….didn’t think I’d go to sales but just passed by and there they were half price so I’m trying them on…then a bath
    So maybe back later
    Chris

    • Hi Chris…………..well done you for getting the gelclair….sounds French, hope it works fr you as I know how bad you get with your sjogrens, So you are to be tested for fibromyalgia, well it is as well to know what has been troubling you, then you can get started on some treatment. You should be nice and cosy in your parka coat, I love a bargain, but this year have not bothered with Black Friday, just didn’t feel up to it.
Have you been watching “I’m a celebrity, get me out of here”? if so what is your opinion of Lady C ???
      Have a good night Chris……love Jen x

    • Chris, Let’s hope and expect the gargle to help your sore mouth or is it for the dryness? I’m not familiar with the product although I did use one similar for my esophagus after radiation therapy. I’m always pleased when you get good care, like the rest of us who get so frustrated when our needs aren’t met. As far as the fibro just ask her why it isn’t arthritis. Sometimes doctors use fibro for the answer when they don’t know what to say. Just saying. I hope you love the new parka and also hope you found some great sweaters on sale.
We had a wonderful dinner. Beth and her DH did a great job. We all ate too much, a sure sign all was delicious. I bought the kids an early Christmas present and gave it as a family gift. They just got back from a big trip to Disneyland and with a new Star Wars movie coming out in a couple of weeks, well…I bought then a five foot inflatable R2D2 for their front porch. He has on a red Santa hat. It is kinda cute all lit from within.
Hope your weather is not too fierce. We’re having bright, sunny days with frosty nights. Later dear, Love, Sue

  11. Well I posted don’t know what’s happened to it
    Jen
Well as I said in one that’s not got thru.ive only seen it twice first time I thought she was good for the camp.next time rotten…but I like watching her tho..she Is trouble but that makes it interesting
I remember when she was in the papers changing sex and marrying that earl
    Hope others recovering!
    Chris

    • HI CHRIS………….LADY C AS FAR AS I KNOW HAD A PROBLEM WITH HER BITS, BUT WAS NEVER A BOY, JUST NOT FULLY DEVELOPED, BUT HEYHO SHE IS A BIT OF A DEMON, AND HYPOCRITE, BUT ENTERTAINING. BLOOMING COLD OUT, TODAY WAS -1C, HOW ARE YOU DOING?
      TALK SOON…….LOVE YOU….JEN X

  12. HELLO FOLKS……..I EXPECT TODAY IS A BIT OF AN ANTI CLIMAX FROM ALL THE CELEBRATING, NEVER MIND ANOTHER THREE WEEKS AND YOU CAN DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN…………….HOPE EVERYONE IS WELL, AND YOU ALL HAD A GREAT TIME WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY……………..GOD BLESS……………JENNIE XX

    • Hi Jennie, Yes, I think we’re all a bit sedated by the L-tryptophan in the turkey we ate. Sounds like you are very chilly. So it’s that time of year again. Hope the fireplace is working well. Were you ever able to get that glass panel fixed?
I hate to say it but we are having sunny and chilly but beautiful weather right now. Supposed to get another rain storm through here next week just in time for my trip to Portland. Can’t help but dread the coming week with dental work and all. Well, what does one do? Just plod forward I guess. Not much news here. Doing some Christmas shopping online this AM. Jim working. Want to get out Christmas decor but new tree hasn’t arrived yet. Must remember to bring in chair pads from outside, bring in hose, etc in preparation for winter. Don’t think I’m ready, how about you?
We don’t have any idea what you and Chris have been chatting about lately? Is it some British TV show? Later, Love you, Sue

  13. Hi
    Jen
Yep it’s cold here too and that wind, and gives even gales again tomorrow ,but warmer!!
Been out for a cheese scone and tea..they were just out of the oven..she cooks them in front of you .she had a day there ..she was just mixing the flour and some bread fell down from a shelf landed ontop of it and the flour went everywhere .she came in early to prepare afternoon teas for two lots of six ..so that was a good start! She does all the cakes their too.she chats while she bakes! I think she must be a calm person! She has it all lit up for xmas with a tree as well
    Sue
Well I’ve had arthritis for ages now so I don’t know what she means ,can you have both that and fibro too?
I’m glad you managed to eat with everyone that is a bonus for you so you can enjoy it more
What a good idea with r2d2 .i bet they all loved it esp. the grands..perfect for the porch now too.i think from the sound of it you come up with just the right present all the time
Well tomorrow it’s off to a Xmas bazaar and then into get a pair of jeans I ordered…NOTE ..smaller size!
Then visit the cafe again .it gives winds 60 mph tomorrow so should be fun!
My dad ..we’ll.. He was saying I’d lost some photos..how can he know just out of the blue. So I took them around and said they are here .you have a look at what’s there …well that nite he phoned and said come and collect them right now or he will tear them up!! What’s he on??
So not to be intimidated I said I’d collect them when I next come around. He put the phone down……all good fun..I didn’t go but I rang the next day as if nowt had been said….he was ok
Well just dusted downstairs and going to read the newspaper
Coming off the half amytrip to every other day.no strange nightmares just very odd dreams..but headache returning.have to see how it all goes
    Chris

    • Chris dear, sounds like your Dad is being overly feisty again. Oh dear. Good for you not to go rushing over there. Guess there is a lesson in there for each of us as a reminder not to get so ornery when we get old and frustrated by life. Some of us feel like we’re already there but no reason to make life miserable for everyone around us, huh?
I am sorry to hear your headaches return on a lower dose of the med but glad you’re sleeping a bit better…such choices. How wonderful to be getting into smaller jeans. You have done so well with your weight loss. I admire you for that…think we all do.
Some doctors will tell you that you can definitely have fibro and arthritis at the same time. Others believe it is all part and parcel of the same problem only affecting the soft tissue. I prefer the latter way of thinking.
The whole scone/bakery adventure sounds like such fun. She must be a fine cook to be so cool under pressure like that. What a light, delicious experience for you and DH. Jim and I need to try to get out more. Seems like you two are always on the go. Lucky. Later then my friend, Love, Sue

  14. Well..I think I just make it seem like it..we have errands and stuff to do so We just fit in a favourite as well.wish I could magic you here to see
Oh the program is on TV at moment every night it’s called.Im a celebratory get me out of here..
There are some have beens and a few more well known stars stuck in a jungle in Australia . They live in a camp and take part in stuff I can’t watch.like eating unimaginables… It’s on every year .they get voted off and whoever wins gets the crown for a year…only there’s one lady causing ructions at the moment. I like a bit of hassle tho!
Oh the dentist I do hope he can fix it exactly like you want and that the raim storm comes and goes before your trip. Oh I wish that magic would work
    Chris

    • Chris, if only. Wouldn’t that be fun? We have similar shows here. Never watch them because I hate to see all the conflict, suffering when I know there’s the producer and a camera crew within ten feet living it up. Just me. I don’t watch any reality shows. I think real life offers enough reality for me.
The storm is scheduled to arrive the day before we go to Portland. Just hope it doesn’t bring snow. It’s okay if it rains while I’m at the dentist. Seems appropriate. Hope you’re having an enjoyable day today. Love, Sue

  15. Ive only watched it twice but it does seem very popular .i can’t watch the suffering either, but they seem to get by on it on the shows
DD just emailed me she’s in London going to see The phantom of the opera …wish she hadn’t hold me she’s there now and train back.sent a pic and London seems crowded it’s 9 ish there
    Chris

  16. Well she had seen it earlier and on way home now. Good job I didn’t know she spent the day in London!
Ice-skating at Somerset house and lunch at Covent Garden place called Browns then Phantom.
    Sounds a nice day tho.
Hope all well after your holiday over there
    Chris

    • Chris, Isn’t it a sad thing that we have to be so fearful now, in this current time with all the madmen out there. I know we Mom’s are always protective but it’s definitely ramped up when our kids go into large crowds. Glad she’s had a good time. Sue

  17. HELLO….BLOWING GALE HERE, BEEN AWAKE ALL NIGHT HOPING THE HOUSE WOULDN’T LOSE ITS ROOF…….CHRIS EXPLAINED THE CONCEPT OF THE GAME WE FILM IN AUSTRALIA “I’M A CELEBRITY, GET ME OUT OF HERE” SORRY FOR NOT EXPLAINING EARLIER, THAT WAS REMISS OF ME.
I AM HOPING THERE WILL BE A SERVICE FOR THE FALLEN IN PARIS AT CHRISTMAS, IF THERE IS I AM BETTING IT WILL BE WELL ATTENDED, I WISH I COULD GO.
MY KIDS ARE COMING UP TO LONDON FROM CORNWALL, TO WORK FOR THE HOMELESS AT “CRISIS” AS THEY DO EVERY YEAR, ITS A HELL OF A TRIP, 500 MILES, THEY WILL WORK ON “THE DAY” THEN HAVE A REST DAY, THEN DO ANOTHER WORK DAY, THEN HEAD BACK TO CORNWALL…..PHEW! DON’T ENVY THEM, BUT I AM EXTREMELY PROUD OF THEM.

SUE ….GLAD YOU ARE HAVING DECENT WEATHER STILL, SO YOU ARE ALL STUFFED WITH TURKEY? A METAPHOR I THINK, NO SUE THE FIRE SCREEN IS NOT FIXED YET, SAME OLD STORY, ITS BEEN ORDERED, JUST WAITING FOR IT TO COME IN TO THE WORKSHOP…..YEAH RIGHT!! I KNOW YOU ARE DREADING THE COMING WEEK DEAR FRIEND, I HOPE ALL GOES AS WELL AS POSSIBLE, IT WILL SOON BE OVER, THEN YOU MUST REST AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, IS THERE ANOTHER TRIP TO PORTLAND BEFORE XMAS?

CHRIS……..I LOVE YOUR DESCRIPTION OF THE LADY WHO BAKES THE SCONES, AND YES SHE MUST BE A CALM PERSON, IF ANYONE CHATS TO ME WHILST I AM BAKING, I END UP SCREECHING AT THEM TO CLEAR OFF….I AM NOT A CALM PERSON.
DID YOU MANAGE TO GET YOUR JEANS? ISN’T IT GREAT TO GET A SMALLER SIZE? THAT WAS STRANGE THING FOR YOUR DAD TO DO, HOPEFULLY THE PHOTOS ARE STILL INTACT?? GLAD YOU ARE OFF YOUR AMY, BUT WORRIED FOR YOU ABOUT THE HEAD PAINS COMING BACK.
    HOPE YOUR DD ENJOYED “PHANTOM”.

WELL BETTER GO, GOT A STINKING COLD, HEAD SPINNING, SO IT JUST REMAINS FOR ME TO WISH EVERYONE A PEACEFUL SUNDAY………………MUCH LOVE JENNIE XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

    • Jennie, of course, you are proud of the kids for helping those who need it. You did a good job with them, obviously. Hope all is well for them… each. Hope Nikki is getting some answers about her health and hope Tim’s job situation is going better. My goodness when you have to worry about the roof blowing off…had that experience and here I’m always afraid the windows will blow in because they’re so old. Sometimes the old leaded ones do rock around a bit. Glad the fireplace is working okay for you and keeping you warm and toasty.
No, I don’t think I will have to make another trip to Portland before Christmas. Hopefully the tooth nonsense won’t keep them from giving me my infusion for the bones. I need it more now than ever because they’re using it to treat any mets to the bones. If it’s not one thing it’s another. I must learn to trust in all of it. Either I’m a person with faith or I am not. It’s as simple and as complicated as that. Do take care dear friend, Love, Sue

  18. Hello, all. I just caught up here. Nice, quiet Thanksgiving at my Mom’s. Black Friday we did some shopping, but not what you’d expect. We went to our local Humane Society. They were having a Black Furday sale – all black furred animals 50% off! Great idea. Not what we were there for, however. I had seen a picture of a kitten – flame point Siamese, like our beloved Miles. We saw him and couldn’t resist. So… we have one more cat. He is adorable! Still quartered in DD’s bedroom until he settles in and the others get a bit more comfortable with him. He would love to explore the house, but is a bit scared of Sadie. Understandable. They do come face to face at the baby gate well as long as he feels he can escape. He’s so tiny, only 2 months old. We’ve named him Luka. I’ve begun my decorating and redid the pretty wreath I made earlier. It is done now and ready to hang. So many projects and shopping to do! A bit overwhelming. I’ve overdone and am sore and achy. Surprise, surprise. Time to set about my Christmas list. Au revoir for now!

    • Hi Lyn, Saw the pics of Luka yesterday and he is adorable. Such a bright, tiny little face. It will be interesting and fun to see how he fits in with all the others, both canine and feline. Somehow adding a new family member makes the holidays even more special. Enjoy and happy decorating. Love ya, Sue

  19. Hi all
    Hope everyone is ok.
    Tonie
Expect youre busy hope you are keeping well
Nowt to say today.home all day. Drs appt for dh tomorrow.bp meds playing up again .he can’t walk legs cramp all nite and hurt all day
    Weather rainy.
Looking forward to this big craft bazaar on Friday at the coast. It gives good weather
We hopefully will leave for shed on Wednesday
Sue have you been to dentist..?
    Chris

    • Chris, a quiet day at home sounds good. No, I have the dentist on Wed. and the Oncologist on Thurs. GD has a birthday this week and will be ten years old, going on 25. We had to go ahead and put our dear little Mini-schanuzer Jake to sleep today. Jim is extremely upset and yet, I know, the poor old dear pup is at peace. It got to the point where he was just peeing wherever he was and that wasn’t good.
Hope you get to the coast and enjoy the craftfair. Great time of year for that. Hope DH gets some answers so he can be more comfortable. Love, Sue

      • Oh Sue it is NEVER easy but I tell myself that it’s the best gift you can give the sweet things when they’re uncomfortable, scared, and know they worry their dear humans. I still grieve Pow as well as Flirt and Eddie. I know when it’s Nessie’s time I will need to crawl into a hole and pull it in after me. Gentle hugs sweet friend.

      • Sue my dear. Prayers for you and especially Jim, who I know was so nuts about Jakie. I know you feel at peace with it, and the hurt will fade with time. It is so sad to loose one of our babies. Know that you are in my thoughts
        Love
        Tonie

      • Sue..I am so sorry about your Jake. I know how hard a decision it is to make. But we need to make them. It is so hard to let them go. I still miss my bichon frise I had to put to sleep 4 years ago. Thinking of you and sending hugs. Love, JO

      • SUE….GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOUR APPOINTMENTS, AND HEART FELT SYMPATHY FOR THE DEMISE OF SWEET JAKE, I KNOW YOU WERE EXPECTING IT, BUT IT IS STILL AWFUL TO LOSE A FAMILY FRIEND, GIVE JIM A BIG HUG FROM ME AT THIS STRESSFUL TIME. ………………….LOVE YOU JEN XX

  20. A sad time sue for you both.i know it was a decision that you didn’t want to make..but you had to..yes as you say he is free of all those problems and at peace. but a loss for you.

Wow your GD she is ten now ,quite the little lady…time goes so fast. Good age to have some fun with they say some funny things. I remember our GS at that time..wish we could grab time back
Well a difficult week for you sue with a shiney point with her birthday …
Be back later if I don’t get to sleep
    Chris

  21. Dearest Janet, Bobsled and Chris, you’re all so kind. We’re heartsick but time will help a bit. Thank you for being such good friends. Love, Sue

  22. Good morning my peeps !
Been busy on here, as expected. All had a good Thanksgiving. Ours was very nice. Nikki cooked and I helped her serve. Left without any leftovers and was proud of myself 🙂 My Frenchman enjoyed himself. He comes from an extended family who all farmed together and lived on the farm. So he likes family affairs. He is steadily discovering Southern foods and liking them. Especially biscuits and apple butter 🙂 He mixes it with cottage cheese for dessert.
Went Black Fri shopping for the first time ever. Wasn’t so bad, as we just went local. Found a lot of good bargins to finish off my shopping. Busy weekend, and yesterday was raining cats and dogs all day. It is getting colder here, so I think it will soon be our normal temps for this time of year. This time last year I had just gotten Baby and it had already snowed. Everyone here is fine.
He will be leaving on THursday the 3rd. He is leaving on the 13th for France and daughter is giving him a party for his birthday on Saturday so he must be back for that, and to get ready to leave. With all that is happening, you can’t be sure about international flights.
Well Cesar just barffed in the floor so I must get it up and get ready for work.
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • HI TONIE……WELL YOU SOUND AS IF YOU AND YOUR GUY HAD THE BEST TIME, AND YOUR FAMILY SEEM TO HAVE TAKEN HIM TO THEIR HEARTS. SO MRS YOU TOO PICKED UP SOME BARGAINS AS DID OUR CHRIS, GOOD FOR YOU, WHAT DID YOU BUY? I KNOW YOU WILL BE SAD WHEN YOU AND YOUR GUY HAVE TO PART AGAIN, BUT THE SOONER HE GOES, THE SOONER HE CAN RETURN…………………LOVE YOU…JEN XX

    • Tonie, pleased your holiday was so enjoyable and that you and your new friend are still having such a good time. I agree with the others that it won’t be long before he’ll be back, hopefully without any hitches in the retirement funds. Jim is still considering retirement and as you all would guess, I am thrilled. I’ve been doing much Christmas shopping on line and glad to do it. We’d buy very little if I had to walk around a store. Back still a major source of pain.
Thanks for your kind words about little Jakie. Jim’s okay but still in much hurt. Love, Sue

  23. Tonie
Good to hear you. And youve been having fun . All good!

Well we can go to the coast tomorrow.my dads tablets from the hospital weren’t in yesterday so they were in today . So we could collect them today…so that frees us
For John Our Dr. reduced, by less than half ,the med he was on.and has given him as well a low dose of another to go along with it..apparently the higher dose had caused myalgia in all his muscles. Blimmin tablets
Bit unsure about going away with the alteration ..but he wants to go
    Sue
Just Incase our wifi over there plays up you tell the dentist what’s what on Wednesday and be thinking of you on Thursday and that long trip and hope the weather is ok for it
    Chris

    • Chris, hope the trip is a good one and that your DH does well with medication changes. I dread the week but also want it to be behind me instead of ahead. Later, Love, Sue

  24. Just on here since last. Sue, I am so sorry for your loss. I know how Jake is/was loved. It is never easy. But, yes, it was time. I know he will be greatly missed.

Tonie, it sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving 🙂

Chris, oh my. I hope all works out with the meds. Enjoy the coast!

Stressful time here – a lot on my plate at present, but enjoying our little furball. He was sick this morning, so taking him to the vet to be checked out. Hopefully it is nothing.

  25. Jennie, Yes, it’s a sad time for both of us but the best decision for the little pup. He was over 14 years old and came to the end of his time of control and enjoyment. It’s always so difficult. Love, Sue

  26. GOod morning Peeps:
SUe praying for your trip this week, hopefully you will have good weather for it. I know it is so hard on you.
My back has really been acting up All the walking I would guess. The one part is feeling better, but now I am more aware of the sciatica going on again. ARGH ! Anyhow, I go Monday for the next injection.
Jennie, I gout Hot Wheels for all the little boys on sale, big box of them for half off what is normal, some clothes for Nikki and my son and some things she needed for her home just because. My Frenchman bought her a big knife set because he had seen she needed them. He is having a lot of admiration for her in beginning her life again with all the kids she has. I found her an entertainment center for $10 , NEW !! He wants to look in all the stores, I just let him look and push my cart around so it doesn’t hurt my back too much. Trouble is I spend, he don’t. He is fascinated by the Dollar stores. Yes, tomorrow he leaves. Sad, but anxious to just get it all behind us and know what is ahead. You cannot make plans unless you know what to plan for.
Well, I must get going. It has been raining constantly for two days now, I am ready for it to stop. It is supposed to clear up in the morning. At least it is not snow huh ??
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, I have mixed feelings about this week. Yesterday afternoon got sick to my stomach and then had diarrhea all night. I’m exhausted and had to postpone trip to the dentist. That also meant I had to delay trip to oncologist for meds until next week. The best laid plans, huh? Guess it’s meant to be this way. Feeling weak but much improved tonight so must have been a 24 hour virus. Still have a gunky throat and feel flu like but so much better.
I am sorry to hear you are having some acting up of the sciatic nerve. I understand so well. Looking forward to your getting another injection. Hope it helps a great deal.
Sounds like you are getting so many bargains this year and that is great. I’m afraid I’ve overdone terribly this year but am just about finished with my shopping, all of it online. Have boxes everywhere. That’s the problem with the online shopping compared to just having a shopping bag. Well, I know you’re going to miss your special friend but I understand how good it will feel for both of you to get things settled for the future. I hope all goes very well for him back in France.
Sorry about all the rain but you’re right. It could be snow. More rain here with chilly nights. No snow. Later dear girl, Love ya, Sue

  27. HELLO…JUST A QUICK NOTE, I DON’T HAVE THE ENERGY TO REPLY TO ANYONE, GOT TERRIBLE STOMACH CRAMPS, THINK ITS A BAD DIVER ATTACK, JUST WANTED TO SAY A QUICK HELLO…………GOING BACK TO BED, …LOVE TO ALL….JENNIE X

    • Jennie, so sorry to hear you have such bad cramps. I had them last night and it turned out to be a virus. Hope your attack will leave you quickly. It’s always something it seems for so many of us. Do take care, drink your potato soup and lots of liquidsm except alcohol and coffee. Love you much, Sue

  28. Jen
Hope it gets better soon.ive got summat there too building up.hotty on it now
Gs and his girlfriend came up to shed this evening and stayed about 4hrs chatting and laughing it was good fun.unexpected so it was nice.
I think my stuff I was taking for constipation has given me cramps. Blimmin nuisance
    Sue
Hope you got on ok at dentist . And ok to go tomorrow
    Tonie
You got some good bargains! Hope the back is easing a bit after all the walking and busy time.
I wonder how long it will be that he has to wait before he comes back..perhaps some magic will happen and all be quicker than you thought. You will be concerned until you both know.
    Well gonna try and sleep
    Chris

    • Chris, Hope your cramps aren’t from anything I recommended to you for the gut. How fun for you to have GS pop in on you and to just come for a visit. Is he old enough to drive already? A girlfriend, huh? Oh boy. They seem to grow so fast. Take care and enjoy your time at the coast. How’s the weather? Love, Sue

  29. Sue
Nooooo sue it was a softener the Dr. suggested I got on prescription it was lactulose ..cramps woke me up .I was dreaming I was having twins!! And demanding a caserean because of my bladder..!!it was so real Mixture of cramps and coming off amytrip. Oh I was pleased when I woke up even with the pain!
Yea GS is 19 in January..it’s the first time we’ve met her.he took her to see my dad then came over here and when I knew they were coming ..he rang from my dads .I went and got stuff for a meal we had only been here a few hrs
They stayed with my dad 11/2 hrs and he led them a dance.he was saying the previous carer had Stolen his golf clubs!! I ask you how could he have wisked them away they don’t have cars..anyway they were in a corner that two wardrobes made together..but at the back..GS had to think they mite be there and get on top of the wardrobes to look.and then having found them had to count them from the top of the wardrobe. One was missing ..but that was the one he had that he used to keep by him to knock the ceiling for the noises upstairs makes……oh dear. Anyway GF was very sorry for him and chatted to him as well and the carer about his tablets..she seems very nice and they both sort of argue with each other in a nice way like an old married couple..it’s sort of nice. And he is laughing and smiling all the time.so hope it all goes well
Well I hope you are continuing to feel better. And now it’s all next week..but maybe your weather will be better by then to go. have you toothache tho ? All our immune systems must be down and we all get stuff so easy, but you don’t need it
Terrible news coming in from California..so bad
    Chris

  30. Hello…….feeling a little better, but hanging on to the meds my doc gave me back in July when my last attack was, after sixteen hours of chronic colic like pain, I was about ready to throw myself on the mercy of the local vet and beg for shot of Ketamine.

Sue…..I was concerned that you have picked up yet another virus, and hope it does not make as ill as the last one.
I know there must still be much sadness around you and Jim, and I bet little George is helping you through what is a very sad time for you both.

Tonie……sweetheart, this is a sad day for you also, as you get to say goodbye to your guy once again, its painful but on the plus side, you have stored up so many more happy memories to last until the next time. What a typical French gentleman he is, helping you with things, and taking such an interest in your children and grandchildren….hang in there love, you have something very special.

Chris…..what a lovely surprise for you for your GS to come by, and with a girlfriend too, wow when did that happen? How are your cramps now? Blimey, fancy dreaming you were having twins, I think I would have been glad to have woken up too.
I couldn’t help but smile at the golf clubs episode with Grandpa, and it was a lovely thing for your GS’s GF to get involved with your Dad……….

Well I am off to get lunch for my DH, abstaining myself, don’t want to overload my tummy as I won’t be wanting a repetition of yesterday………………………much love to all………..
    Jennie x

  31. Jen hope you still getting better
It’s pouring here and the gales are lashing rain against the shed
We’re in bed and listening to it all..
Sue hope all ok.i remember you said about Jim thinking of retiring.well you must be so so,pleased .not on your own in the day and life easier
Did a bit of Xmas shopping today in a little market town and the bazaar tomorrow should be nearly done.
Well try and get some sleep still got this cramp
    Chris

    • Hi love…yes I am much better now, still taking the meds for a bit longer.
Its been a lovely day here Chris, it was 18c in the car, but dropped dramatically now.
I am glad I don’t have to do Xmas shopping in the UK, I remember how manic it was,
much calmer here, but I guess some like the hustle and bustle, or maybe I am just getting old.
Sorry the cramp is still bugging you love.
      Jen x

  32. Good morning my peeps !
I have been lazy (sort of) this am. At least in that I skipped water aerobics so I will go swim in a few then. I feel better today, a lot of my sadness is gone replaced with anticipation of things to come. I hope this finds you all painless and happy. Sue I know you have been thru too much this week to be painfree, but I pray anyway.
It was cold this morning. Frost on, in the twenties. Baby was laying on the hay, waiting me to feed them. It was a pretty picture. I ran the Roomba, and was going to Scooba the floors, when I realized the plug had came out of her, so she has to be charged first. Alas ! And I think the battery is wearing out on the Scooba, so I will have to look on Amazon to see if they have one like they did for Scooba.
Spoke with my Frenchman this morning, he sounded better as well. Wasn’t ready to be with his daughter and family yet he said, so he may go look at horses on his way in today.
Ms Alice has had another stroke and was way off base yesterday. She thought she was in a hospital, I was a nurse, saw all sorts of people around. Hard evening for me last night. Got home at 8:30, I may go back Sat and give Fran a break for a few hours, we will see.
My love to you all today, I will be off to swim and get some exercise.
    Tonie

    • Tonie….so sorry to hear about Miss Alice, I hope she can recover as well as the last time.Good to hear you and your guy are smiling through, I think if its a case of you or the family, its a no-brainer for him.
Keep a good supply of batteries in Mrs, Roomba and Scooba, sounds like a Latin American dance…ha ha!! Take it easy Tonie, and enjoy your swim.
      Love jennie x

  33. Sue…..its not been an easy week for you my friend, but courage is something you have plenty of, wishing you a peaceful weekend.
Much love Jennie x………………………..ps…..borrowed your Text Santa Downton, too good not to share, Text Santa is done each year in the UK for the homeless etc.

  34. Hi all
    So windy here
    Hope all okish
Saw an advert for small foldable steps today for a small dog to climb into bed ,thought of George Sue
When I saw it from what you said some months ago
This wind is receding by tomorrow ,floods in some places tho.so bad any time but before Xmas even worse
Hope this post gets on ok
    Chris

    • Chris……..we too have had the gales back again, but nothing like the UK, but flooding in the Loire Valley, glad its not too close to us. My sympathies go to the flood victims, poor souls, what a rotten time of year for this to happen, God bless Northumbria and surrounding areas……as you can see, you have posted ok…….love Jen x

  35. Good morning peeps”
Slept in a bit this morning, very icy frost out this morning, so the horses were hanging on the fence waiting for their hay. Prayers for me this morning please. My right hip is out of wack, and I can hardly walk. Hurts all down my leg. I have to go for injections on my back tomorrow, maybe I can get him to give me a shot in my hip. Gonna have to drag out the cane. Thought maybe my back was out of line, but It is the bursitis in this hip. I remember I slept on it almost all night the other night. It usually wakes me up, but yesterday when I got up it was way off.
So SUe, praying for you. Love you sweetie, I know you are settling in waiting. Chris/Jennie, we must be right on line with the weather here in Va and there with you guys. It seems what we get, you get. We had so much flooding last week.
I need to get my humidifier out and use it at night. Wow what a dried up nose.
take care all I must get ready for church.
    LOve to all
    Tonie

    • Tonie…….sorry to hear your hip is out of line and it would be good if you can get the shot to get some relief. Yes sometimes I have to drag out my stick too, its always within sight………..enjoy the church service, and yes I will pray for you………..love Jennie x

    • Tonie, how did it go today? I’m anxious to know how the injection or injections went and pray they helped your trochanter or femur and hip. My day was better than anticipated as the broken tooth did not go into the root pulp and that meant I didn’t have to have a root canal. I was quite relieved. Hope you’re having some relief tonight as well.
I can live with the crown prep and a very sore jaw and mouth because I know they will get better. Hope you’re feeling the same. I’m exhausted so will go but wanted you to know my thoughts are with you. Love, Sue

      • Hello Sue:
Well, first, the injections went well. He opted for me to wait until we see what this is doing before we address the sciatica issue (I think that is what it is even though it makes it feel like it is my hip.) It is feeling better now, I am walking easier, not so stiff and painful. The injections were very uncomfortable this time. But you endure for the relief huh? The RA apt went well, even though I was with the nurse practioner. Doc is having another baby. We did forget my sleeping , so after waking up for the 4th time at 3:30 (this time wide awake) I did send an email requesting the meds be raised to 1 amytrip or find something else to keep me asleep. Not getting enough rest is really bad for me or anyone. My Frenchman made me agree I would go to bed earlier before he left. He told me I was not getting enough rest, well duh !! He also is at me to start a stretching program every morning, and he is right (hate to admit that) and I am going to try to do it. It will take some time to get it instilled in me. Especially getting up to let the dogs out first, as it can be done in the bed for the most part.
I am glad you don’t have to have the root canal. I have to make apt for my little cavaties now. Have 2 I need to get done, then the replacement tooth in front.
The trochanter is still in distress and this will be looked at when I go to the followup in Jan with my Chris Dr. He is a young guy who gives me all the other injections. Very cocky and self sure, but I like him.
Well, I need to see if I can shut my eyes for another hour before I have to get up for work. At least rest, maybe I can get a nap with Ms Alice 🙂 !
        Love to you all
        Tonie

  36. My friends, please know that I am thinking of each one of you. I’ve been recovering from the rotten stomach flu and also trying to bring out a bit of CHristmas as well. Jim helped me to drag out a few things to make the house a bit more festive. Have a big week planned and our weather has been much like Chris, Jennie’s and Tonie’s. High winds all night and rain pounding the windows continuing today.
Hang in there everyone as you deal with your individual episodes of pain. Jennie, sounds like you had some bad days and I regret that so much. Tonie, bursitis? Wait and see what the doctor has to say. It’s all so related when you have the sciatic nerve involved. Glad you’re going to the doctor tomorrow. I’ll be at the dentist. Chris and Lyn, thinking of you both. Chris, wild weather so you be careful, okay? Lyn, how’s that new little one at your house. He’s so sweet. Have to work on tomorrow’s blog so must go. Love to all who read this blog. Sue

    • SUE…..GOOD LUCK AT THE DENTIST LOVE, GLAD YOU CAN CONJURE SOME CHRISTMAS SPIRIT IN THE MIDST OF ALL THAT IS HAPPENING, WE ARE LUCKY HERE THE WEATHER IS CRAZY BUT IN A GOOD WAY, ITS QUITE WARM, MAKES ME FEEL GUILTY FOR ALL THE FLOODING GOING ON IN THE UK…..MIGRAINE AGAIN AND FEELING VERY SICK, BUT IT WILL GO IN TIME……LOVE YOU…JEN X

      • Jennie, So thoughtful of you to be in touch. It was a tedious, painful day for me with everything hurting tonight but the news was good…now must wait for the crown to be made and chew carefully. I am so sorry you have a migraine. I know how miserable that can be for you. I used to have them all the time due to my cervical spine but they stopped when I made that problem better and also when I went on low dose prednisone or perhaps it’s one of the anti-inflamatories. Surely wish we could find the cause of yours. So many things can cause them but I know caffeine and alcohol can really make them worse as can hard cheeses and red wines. Rotten info, huh? Do take care and know you’re thought of. Love, Sue

  37. Hi
    Hope dentist goes ok sue
Jen just like my bl..dy head. Sick and pains all, over
Glad ur weather ok ours ok too now
Poor people up north only a few years ago floods and out of their homes and now again

Well had to go back home
My dad said carer is now 2 on a scale to 10 when I spoke to her the other day I thought oh she’s a bit snappy to me.but never said anything.then I asked my dad why and he said she has a temper
So we went back and walked in unannounced.I said I came back as my dad didn’t seem very happy and she said they had words about his tablets he won’t take them..prob.why she was snappy to me .so I stayed and wrote down all his meds and why he’s to take them and his constipation stuff.so hopdully all will go better especially now she knows I came back and worried . And hope my dad will take his meds he queries them all day.and even told me what I said was ..bullshit.!
So we are back dH took advantage and went for his Inr blood test while there as he has changed meds
So that’s it gonna make tea
    Chris

    • Chris…….Dad acting up again then? I hope things settle down as she seemed to really please all of you, it would be a shame to have to start over.
My head is still banging, yours too????
Yes I think the Carlisle situation is far from over, today they had a dry day, but the forecast is not good with more rain on the way, so more flooding, and a death now too.
Take care love, and I hope you soon feel better, try not to let the stress get to you.
      Love Jen x

    • Chris dear, Please read my comments to Tonie about the dentist. I am upset to hear your Dad is rocking the boat yet again and hope some of it is poor communication. If you can’t understand his speech maybe that’s part of the problem. Good that you are able to write it down and let her know you are a source of backup knowledge for the woman. I hope her temper doesn’t involve anything that might hurt your Dad. She seemed so nice but maybe the relationship is grating on her now. You have had some good break times at the coast. Hope DH is better today. Later tomorrow. Love, Sue P.S. We have had some serious flooding in Portland and Jim has a business meeting in there tomorrow. I wish he didn’t have to go.

  38. HELLO…….SUE SORRY YOU ARE HAVING EXTRA WORRY WITH FLOODING NOW, AND I PRAY JIM WILL KEEP SAFE AT HIS MEETING….HOW DID THE DENTIST GO, WAS IT A TRIAL?
CHRIS…..I HOPE THAT EVERYTHING IS BACK ON TRACK WITH YOUR DAD AND HIS CARER, AND AS SUE SAID, IT HELPS THAT YOU CAN BE A BIT OF A BACKUP FOR HER.
HOPE EVERYONE IS WELL AND BUSY PREPARING FOR NOÉL, AND NOT WEARING YOURSELVES OUT TOO MUCH.
    LOVE TO ALL…………………JENNIE XX

  39. Tonie, Glad the injections are behind you now…no pun intended. Hope all starts to improve. One thing about the injections in the hip joint and trochanter is that I have always found they don’t last for long but do bring relief. As far as the back, yes, I know the whole issue of referred pain and sciatic pain is so complex. Amazing what the spine and all those nerves can do.
I’m glad your friend is helpful as long as he isn’t too pushy or bossy. You know what you feel and only you. SOunds like he is a very disciplined person.
I have a full day ahead of me. This place is a mess with some Christmas spread around and much to put in place and packages around from all my online shopping. Jim had to go to a meeting in Portland and the weather there yesterday was horrid.. He promised me he’d turn around if it gets too bad. They had two creeks overflow there after more than three inches of rain in a few hours and many were flooded out. Horrible as freeways closed and one or two sections of road sunk leaving huge holes.
Hope you are able to rest with Ms. Alice and that she is calmer today. Love you, Sue

  40. Hi all
    Sue
Glad it was all good at dentist….well as good as it gets!
Is Jim back from Portland or did he stay over ?
    Tonie
Take care.. bit at a time.you seem to do so much as well
I wonder how long before you see your FM again.?thatll be a good meeting! But busy Xmas In between
I like it he told you to get to sleep early.
    Jen
Terrible pics on TV about Cumbria . How do the infirm get to do all that work chucking stuff out etc.i suppose they have volunteers but it’s all, awful with it happening only a few years ago
My dad still not happy..it goes on.but I’m not going to think on it.itll take over all
Gonna watch a prog on TV .
We’ll be at the shed till about the weekend
    Love chris

    • Chris, Good for you to put your Dad’s complaints filed away in your mind so they don’t get you down. Sounds like your neighboring area has been hit hard. We had two areas in Portland with creeks over flow yesterday and they had the wettest Dec 7 in the town’s history. So many people displaced as the water rises faster than they can prepare for it. Got up to hip height in no time at all. We’re okay out here but still raining hard. You’re right it is so awful for folks. Here on the coast we have an area called Tillamook, they’re famous for their cheese factory, and they flood almost every year if not every other. How do people do it time and time again. Later. Good to hear from you, Sue

  41. There seems a sort of dogged determination that comes in to these people and community involvement. I wouldn’t like to experience all that trouble..to be in your own bed safe at nite and warm while these poor people in centres. Doesn’t bare thinking about
Well gonna get some sleep usually about two hours before I wake up again
    Chris

    • Chris. this is because you’re such a compassionate person. I thought of the folks in Portland last night quite a bit when I was awake with an aching jaw. I bit myself several times under the Novacaine and had such a hard time sleeping. Just remember dear Lady that trouble visits each of us. Lord knows, many could not handle the rate of suffering that you and I do. Love, Sue

  42. Sue
I do hope that jaw heals quickly .wish they could invent a way to do teeth better than they do now.it seems so archaic
Well yep trouble certainly visits us and yourself more than most Sue…you were sitting on your porch with your house in trouble I remember …gosh was it two years ago now. Time passes.
Had my two hrs sleep and here I am awake again
    Oh tonie
You did say how much Amytrip you took to sleep once .only you said you may increase if Dr says so..I forgot how much you said.im nearly off mine now down to half a 10 mg every three days.Id have liked to continue but my throat is too sore on them and the constipation as well
Ok well off to try and sleep again
    Chris

    • Chris, Loved the pics of your cottage and the lights. I’ve been decorating a tiny tree we bought. We have a huge none foot prelit tree but chose not to deal with it this year and we didn’t last year either. I love this time of year so much but last year had a fresh freacture in the back and this year better but far from good. I have so many little cute things that are seasonal and have them everywhere. I love the lights the best because of the glow. Hope your Dad is dealing and hope the caregiver knows you’re there for support. Love ya, Sue

  43. Hello…..sorry Sue, I didn’t scroll high enough to see your message to me on an earlier post. Its a lovely cold and frosty morning here in France, Got a shock yesterday, passing through a very remote village, we saw a house which had been sprayed with the word “Assassin” on it, somewhere you would never think it could happen, can only think some muslims may live there, or they know someone who is and visits them, and whoever did it could have relatives in Paris………….a bit close to home that.
Sue I hope you are on the way to recovery from your stomach flu, and from the dentist. Also that your weather has improved, its not good for the UK still.
Tonie……if the exercises can be done in bed, that’s not so bad, but make sure you build up gradually, and the benefits will be better, but I am worried because the injections have helped with the pain, it will lull you into a false sense of security……be careful.
Chris…….yes I agree with you, I always feel guilty having a roof over my head and food in my tummy when flood victims are suffering so much…………………….take care and have a good day.
    Love to all………….Jennie xxx

    • Jennie, indeed, seeing that house sprayed must have been a shock. I’m afraid none of us are free from that kind of extremism, you know? Fourteen killed in S. Cal. last week and it was planned and so awful. It’s made much worse by our lack of leadership in this country. It’s shocking and dangerous.
Hope you’re able to enjoy the early part of this festive season dear lady. Love, Sue

  44. Good morning peeps
Hope this finds you all feeling better.
No Sue he is anything but pushy or bossy. He always tells me he is suggesting. E crept with the sleep. He did say what I know to be true. I don’t rest enough and am always dragging. But two days of gentle stretching has made me feel a bit better on getting up and about. Yes he is diciplined he is a black belt in karate used to compete.
Chris. I take half a 10 mg amatryp
I had to be at work at 7 this am. The Doc is convinced they have cut a nerve in his hand since it is still numb. Even though they put a block on it. Those things can last a week or more he knows this but he is do neurotic. Poor Fran. So I am laying on the couch half asleep !!
Lyn where are you ? Hope all is well
Hope you all have a great day.
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, wow. To work so early. Yes, it does sound like the doctor you work for is a bit of a pain. Interesting how when the shoe is on the other foot, etc. How’s it going with Ms. Alice? Is she still having all those visual hallucinations? I’m not a bit surprised to see your new friend has a black belt. He looks very fit in all the pics. I am just always looking out for you, you know that.
To Portland for us tomorrow. Dry right now but more rain coming in tomorrow. Hope to be back before too late. Much to do while there, such as IV, shots, exam. Hope your weather is drying out a bit. Love ya, Sue

  45. Tonie
    Woohoo a back belt !
I went up to a 10 mg too much for me.but got rid of headache etc. but went onto half for a few days then half every three days.make me too dry. But yea good for sleeping but I still wake up twice
Glad the stretching is beginning to work
    Jen
Everywhere seems vulnerable now..that’s what they want as well!
Back later got to put some lights up in the shed just a few
    Chris

    • Chris………saw the lights, they look really pretty, and everything looks so snug.I woke five times last night, wouldn’t it be great to go through the night….remember that????

Lyn….is everything alright, I too am concerned about you.

Tonie….keep on stretching…..and rest, rest, rest.

      Love to all………………Jennie xxxxxxxxx

    • Chris, you, also. I take Zanax at night to sleep and it works for me along with a pain pill. Two each night does it. Love, Sue
