‘TIS THE SEASON…FOR CHANGE

Oh, the weather outside is frightful, Hallmark films are so delightful, if you want to sing this song, come along, hum along, sing along. As for me, I love this season and always have, however…We’ll get to that.

Funny, but I don’t recall the famous drawing by Norman Rockwell of the family gathered around the Thanksgiving table having anyone with a wound, a missing limb, a cane or any other malformed function. His Christmas pictures as well  always involved the ideal, the classic and the totally idyllic images of American culture. For most of us, preparing to go into the holiday, we are riddled with more imperfections than a plucked turkey with goose bumps out in the cold. Can a turkey have goose bumps? Guess that’s a question for another time.

I remember as a youngster being delighted with making a turkey out of a potato at school by placing paper feathers or chicken feathers on his potato tush and looking forward to all that the holidays implied. The food was so delicious and the aromas that filled the house were so enticing and leftovers, well let’s say, they remain my favorite. I love the tartness of homemade cranberry sauce laced with fresh orange peel and a touch of candied ginger. I have a passion for cornbread stuffing rich with the drippings of a fat turkey. You don’t worry about cholesterol on Thanksgiving Day; or at least you shouldn’t have to.

Thanksgiving is and should be a time of reflection and gratefulness for the many abundant gifts most of us have in America. Sometimes that gets lost in the fervor of all the work for many family members and the possible divisions in some families. It also signals the fact that the big holiday is on the way as Christmas is not far behind, it’s sleigh bells jingling on the heels of turkey day. Some of us welcome the sudden onset of Christmas and some of us do not.

I confess I am one who has always loved decorating early and massively for Christmas. It’s a season of such joy, color and magic, I just plain love it. We have ornaments and decorations which are very old, all connected to some wonderful memory and some, given to us or made by some beloved friend or relative. Yes, I am a Christian and also believe it to be a sacred celebration for those of us who believe in the Christ child and also believe it can be a magically wonderful time when beautiful and mystical things, attitudes and outlooks can prevail. It is a birthday celebration of the highest caliber, designation and often, expense.

A lesson I learned early as a young mother was it doesn’t take a lot of money to have a blessed and memorable holiday season but it does take a lot of work. That’s why I learned over the years to plan ahead, cook ahead of time, and shop early while there are still bargains to be had but I have never learned to wrap packages early. That’s a lesson I hope to teach myself this year. Wish those big gift bags weren’t so expensive.

It’s been a difficult year and a half for me with my health on top of 25 previous years of problems and I find myself in a position where I cannot possibly do all the baking, shopping and entertaining I once did. I miss those days and often grieve for them but realize I must get on with the business of living in the present and will try to do just that. I’m going to try to count my blessings and think about what I can do, not what I can do no longer.

I know many of you, my friends, also face challenges with your health problems and must be facing many of these same questions regarding what you must change, can’t change and indeed will change, albeit kicking and screaming. I urge you not to torture yourselves for the sake of tradition. Let us try to remember this is a time of togetherness and hope; a time of family love and generosity but not indebtedness, and most of all a time of memories. Some of those memories are painful but the majority of them are full of joy. Life cannot be all frosted ginger cookies and pumpkin pie slathered with whipped cream therefore we need to remember there is robust joy in a good pickle or relish, now and then.

Life moves along and drags us with it; all too often as we are resisting but the calendar doesn’t seem to be aware of our reticence. Like a runaway sleigh with us holding on for dear life we are going to a new destination. Life never stands still, like a reindeer munching on hay or crunching an apple or carrot. What do we resist? Change, pain and moderation via compromise are part of us as we grieve for who we used to be. Grief has its season and we must beware and attempt to keep it in its place. Certainly the holidays are full of memories and can touch off grief, but life is memories. What else do we share, take with us from this world and hold most dear?

It’s not compromise if you cannot do as much as you once did. I know. It feels like compromise but if you’re upright, breathing and have a beating heart, enjoy those facts. Remember to be thankful, not resentful. You’ll spoil all of the holidays for yourself, for others and yes, for me. I’ll know. Magic sparks fly out when you’re happy. Have you learned nothing from me all of these years? Many of us have new concerns, new pain or more than we had previously. These cannot be excuses for brushing off this wonderful, joyous season. So many of us have to learn what it is to say the word “NO.” Cutting back on the budget, our time and our energy; these are not sins, lawbreakers or even bad things. They are just change and it is human nature to always resist change, especially if it is not a change we chose.

There are easier ways to wrap, to cook, to bake and to shop. I’m not able to get out and shop this year, nor was I able to last year and with many apologies to the local merchants; most of my shopping this year will be bargain hunting online. Getting to the post office is also difficult so I don’t think I’ll be sending out greeting cards this year. That doesn’t mean I can’t call or send an email to a dear friend in greeting. Many friends and family of the younger generation don’t send out cards any longer anyway. You see, life is always moving on.

There are so many factors in chronic pain and disease that can cause us to lose joy in this life such as stress, depression and sometimes, reading too much on the internet about our individual conditions. It is literally possible to make a condition worse by scaring ourselves. Too much information can sometimes be worse than not enough. We need to use caution all year long and anytime we get information. Just because it’s online doesn’t mean you or I have a certain condition, neither does it mean we will react like someone else reacts.

My friends, I urge you to suck each morsel out of each moment you can and not be dragged down into the morass of negativity due to loneliness, pain or health worries. I know most of us in the free, developed world have many fears this year and have for some time but we can’t let it win by taking the joy from life. Courage has to become our new byword in today’s society as we skate forward, being aware of any and all holes in the ice, fully knowing we can’t spot each danger but doing our best to avoid the thin layers of ice.

Please have a wonderful, most blessed Thanksgiving and don’t be afraid to embrace the beginnings of the Christmas season, the most joyous time of the year. What’s wrong with stretching it out a bit? I know I could use a bit more Christmas spirit in my life this year, how about you?

  1. Sue…i wrote a long post a few days ago and i posted comment as usual but then when i went to see it, it was gone!!! Weird as it showed i posted in my email. I read Chris list one too. Hard to remember all I wrote but here is a condensed version . First off, I loved this blog. Excellent as usual. I was also sorry to read about your belovedJake. Such a difficult decision to make, I know. I had to put down my Bichon frise a few years ago. Her quality of life had become so bad, it was the humane thing to do. Been busy with my home. Will be putting up for sale by next week. I c a n cell edmy trip to my mom and will make it in a few months. My other siblings are there so will let them handle things for now.
I will be thinking of you tomorrow as you head to Portland. Hope the horrible rains hold out till you are home s afe and sound. Prayers for your journey. Hope you are feeling some Christmas spirit. I’m trying to find mine this year. Take care Sue…..Love, Jo
P.S. Hope all who read are doing okay and in not too much pain. Take care.

    • Jo dear, so good to hear from you. Thank you for your kind words about our Jakie. He is at rest and we miss him….everyone of us but George. They didn’t get along. He was a wonderful pet for over 14 years and it will take awhile. I think it’s great that you cancelled your trip to Chicago. You’re right. You’re siblings can handle and should. I can truly imagine how much work you put into getting your house ready to show. What a job it is. I hope you are hanging in there with the pain level.
Yes, I hope the rain waits for us tomorrow but the forecast doesn’t say it will. At least today has given some of the creeks up there a chance to lower their levels. I will pleased to get the IV and the shots behind me…literally for the shots. Yes, I am working on my Christmas spirit and doing more this year than I did last year but not nearly as much as usual. It will still be good for us and the family. Ordering a bit of the food like a Honeybaked Ham. They are so delicious and tender. May order a dessert specialty or two also. The whole idea is family, food and ease as we enjoy each other and don’t get too exhausted to do those. Our big tree is staying in the basement this year and a got a small one that is bursting with ornaments. Still colorful and bright time in our lives.
I am sorry you lost an entry. Don’t know how that happens. Wish I did. Do take care and good luck with your house sale. Love you lots, Sue

  2. Dear friends, no new blog this week. A few glitches and a busy season. Into Portland tomorrow for oncology visit. Meds, etc. Love to each of you. Sue

  3. Sue:
Prayers for a painfree trip for you tomorrow. Hope ya’all don’t run into snow along the way. I see all that forecasted for ORegon tomorrow. I used to take Zanax til I came back home, no one will prescribe it here. Too addictive they say. Oh well, it worked so much better for me though as well. I got the go ahead to use one entire pill, so am starting on that tonight. I have already taken it and my eyes are going shut !
    Take care tomorrow dear friend
    Tonie

    • Tonie, thanks so much. I have taken those two Zanax at night for years and rarely need a third one to sleep. I take the lowest dosage possible and it works better than anything for me. Too bad you can’t get it. I think it’s one of those drugs that got a bad name from those patients who abuse it. No snow in the forecast. It isn’t cold enough here in western Oregon. 56 degrees predicted. Hope it doesn’t pour. Roads so dark and many without streetlights going through the forested areas. Do take care and sleep tight. Love, Sue

      • Dear All, just one more comment on Zanax is that it is a downer. I have a hard time understanding anyone getting addicted to them because if I take one after 3 AM I wake up depressed. Gotta watch that about them but they used to be a good muscle relaxant. This whole sleep issue is so important to each of us we each need to do what works safely. Hot milk, melatonin, pain pills, etc. That’s once again why we need to find the best doctor’s possible. Night all…Sue

      • Hi all, I am replying on Sue’s post but it is to everyone. I am home from my daughter’s from my Thanksgiving visit. It was a very good trip. My youngest daughter, Racheal went with me and it made the drive so much easier having someone to talk to. I drove straight through with a 20 minute stop. My 2 daughters hadn’t seen each other in over a year ago so that was good. We had a chance to catch up. My grandson, Luke, flew in on Friday from NY. He still lives there with his dad since Kim and his Dad seperated. Kim’s friend Scott has a son the same age as Luke and the two of them hit it off and had a great time. Both are 14 years old. They had a fire in the fireplace outside every night and roasted Marshmellows. I had a nice recliner to rest and sleep in. No pain the entire trip!! Even the driving. On Thanksgiving day we had 23 people! My daughter Kim, my sister and myself and of course Racheal cooked for all of us.
We had 2 fried Turkeys that my nephew cooked. He has one of the new Turkey fryers that you use in the house. One took 70 minutes and the other one took 50 minutes. Delicious! Of course we had one roasting in the oven. We had squash casserole, broccoli casserole, sweet potato casserole, and green bean casserole. We also had mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing/stuffing and cranberry relish and regular cranberry sauce. Oh and an old southern tradition collards! Then the desserts, banana pudding, Watergate salad, 2 pound cakes, 2 peanut butter chocolate pies and ice cream. I was so glad my sister, her son and my 2 great nieces were able to come. It was only a 2 and 1/2 hour drive for them. They went home the same day. So Racheal and I stayed another week. We went out to eat a couple of times during that time. Soon it was time to go home. Unfortunately the day we chose to come back they were calling for rain and we got less than an hour away when it started to rain and it rained the whole way back, 4 hours. We made it back ok. I couldn’t wait until the next day because my husband had a kidney stone and gout in his big toe! On top of that his truck broke down and he needed my van to get to work on Thursday morning. He was at the hospital all day on Friday before I came home and didn’t tell me until the day before I was leaving to come home! I was a little angry with him. I would have came on home if he would have told me. He still hasn’t passed it yet but he saw the urologist This past Wednesday and she took x-rays and said it was ready to drop in the bladder. She thinks he will pass it soon. She gave him some medicine that opens up the tube more to make it pass easier. I have had a kidney stone and it was worse than any of my labor pains. So now we wait for him to have his baby. He is still working and pretty calm. He has some good pain meds.l wanted to mention the zanax pills. I took them once for anxiety and they made me so depressed all I did was cry so I quit taking them. I have ativan that helps me more. Plus my pain meds.
A couple of days after getting home my low back muscles started to hurt and have not stopped. I have been using the heating pad everyday. It is too low down to be coming from the fracture. I see my pain doctor next week and if it is still acting up will ask him what he thinks. Also Racheal’s breast opened up and started draining again when we were at the beach for Thanksgiving. Don’t know what her doctor is going to do yet. She doesn’t want to do biopsies until the infection is gone. I am worried she is going to mess around until Racheal gets septic. Then I will really be pissed off!! So we both need prayers. I will continue to pray for all of you. Love you all! Sue,so sorry about Jake. My heart goes out to you. Went through it with my Sweetie a few months ago or really longer than that. Also I hope your trip to Portland wasn’t too bad with all you had to do and go in the rain. No fun for sure! I have been thinking about all of you! Sorry it’s been awhile since I have been on here. Love, Donna

  4. Sue
I used to take zanax to help me sleep years ago. I found it made me feel hyper!.the opposite of what it should do. I am a poor sleeper, so my doc gave me ativan which is in the same class of drugs as zanax. it works well for me. I feel it’s much better than taking sleeping pills like ambien, etc.which are highly addictive. Warm milk and magnesium also help me as does listening to relaxing soothing music. Have a good night! Jo
P.s. your honebaked ham sounds delish. I’ve had them for holidays many times.

  5. Good morning my peeps !
Jo, good to see you back on . My prayers are with you thru the moving and selling processes. I know how difficult it is on the body.
Sue prayers for you again this morning. It was raining here last night as well. Not much, just enough. It is very warm for the next 5 days or so, up to 68 on Sunday. Not much like the usual December, but I will take it. I am sure by Feb I will be having enough cold weather.
I think I have two more presents to get and I am done with all. I keep picking up little doo dads to add to the grandkids stuff. I gotta stop !! With all the grands I have even the dollar store adds up.
Next I have to start baking. Maybe this weekend I will start with the peanut butter pinwheels, and make up some cookie dough for the freezer, then all I have to do is bake. Not sure if I am making a cake or not. All of us will be at my sisters on Christmas Eve, so it will be a lot of food needed. It will be fun, and a lot like it used to be, I am so happy my daughter will be here this year. Christmas is all about the family and above all LOVE, don’t you agree ? Love for one another, and helping if we can. So many in need this year, yet no help to be found unless we give it.
Hope you all have a wonderful day. I must get going or I will be late for Ms Alice.
    God bless
    Tonie

  6. True words Tonie
You will have a good Xmas this year…apart from one not there at the moment.but he’ll be there soon
    Jo
    Good to hear you
Wise to let the others work it all out for your mum.too many making decisions ..well you know what I mean
I don’t get to sleep at all….but what I like to do is think how I can move stuff around to look better in the house..or garden.then I like to listen to the rain on the windows…well not so much this year with the floods
    Jen
Have you put the tree up yet?

Well going out tomorrow to a little town that’s all decorated up and get some last items . That’s if my knee will let me. It’s all swollen and tight can’t bend it
    Hope sue is ok
    Chris

    • A quick note I forgot to mention in my earlier post up in One of Sue’s areas. I am doing great with the hip.. The bursitis isn’t hurting anymore since I had the injection before I left. Amazing how one injection stopped all that pain. Now if we can figure out what is causing this low back muscles pain.I believe I will call my primary care doctor and see if she will check my urine to make sure I don’t have a UTI before I see the pain doctor. Love Donna

      • Donna, so glad you’re home, safe and had a great THanksgiving with your family. Sounds like the shot in the hip is helping you and that is wonderful. Hope your back gets a bit better for the Christmas season. Maybe the traveling set it off a bit? We missed you on here but knew you were busy with family.
I’m recovering from trip to Portland and have a stable condition with the cancer right now. Thank God for these times, huh? Hope your season is wonderful and you enjoy all the usual traditions you are accustomed to for Christmas. Love, Sue

    • CHRIS…NO NOT YET, DOING IT TOMORROW AFTER DINNER….HOW ABOUT YOU?
OUR VILLAGE THIS YEAR IS EVEN PRETTIER THAN LAST YEAR, THEY HAVE PULLED OUT ALL THE STOPS, THING IS THERE ARE SO MANY COACH LOADS OF TOURISTS, IT HARD TO GET TO ANYTHING, THE STREETS ARE SWAMPED WITH THESE MASSIVE BUSES…..AH WELL, ITS GOOD FOR TRADE.
      TAKE CARE….JEN XX

  7. SUE….HOPE EVERYTHING IS OK WITH YOU, ITS BITTERLY COLD HERE WITH FREEZING FOG….YUK, HOPE ITS BETTER IN OREGON, SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE HAVING A MILD SPELL. GOT SOME CREAM FOR THE CHILBLAINS ON MY TOES, SEEMS TO BE HELPING A BIT, SOMEONE SAID TO PEE ON THEM, DON’T FANCY THAT, BUT APPARENTLY IT WORKS…….LOVE YOU JEN XX

    • Jennie, Not sure what peeing on your toes would do for them except warm them up. As you have already read we are not mild right now. Freezing fog sounds wild. Do stay safe. Love, Sue

  8. Hi
    I’m at home now
My dad quarrelling with the carer.they went to Dr today and apparently she took up his time with complaining about my dad and his meds the Dr had to say come back another time.he has others to see and she had taken Up a lot of his time..oh dear and she shouted at him when they came back.this is what my dad says..she says they quarrelled. But my dad seems very tired with it all ,speech was worse
I just don’t know..in the end if he doesn’t want to take some meds…well leave it be
Apparently he hides them in the chair, in a tissue etc.
I think I mite ask her to leave it all for a bit to see how it goes
    Go see over the weekend
I’ve got a cold so am weary of going
    Hope you feeling ok sue
Your village must look great jen..glad the cream us helping a bit..maybe it needs a stronger one

Back later if awake taken half an amityp..it mite work
    Chris

    • Hi Chris………….Yes the village is lovely, we want to go to the Christmas market the Saturday before Christmas, but won’t be able to if the toe doesn’t get better, got an appointment with the Doc on Monday, but I feel foolish about going with a sore toe.
I am so sorry you are having yet more trouble with Dad and his meds and carer, hope it can be sorted satisfactorily, and also look after that cold, dose yourself up and stay in the warm.

      Love to all…..Jennie x

    • Hi dear friends, Trip to Portland safe but scary. The weather was a bit of a nightmare. There was one point when we would have turned back due to heavy rains and wind but the other side of the highway was bumper to bumper for about 40 miles and that would have been the only way home, therefore we kept going. It happened because a huge landslide with mud and trees had closed one of the major freeways, I 5 to Washington state and all the huge semis and cars were being diverted toward the coast around the slide. What a mess. The rain finally let up and for a few miles it was just misting and we saw roads that had been scraped with huge mud slides as we got closer to Portland. The nurses at the oncology office had had to spend the night the night before in the office and probably same at the hospital due to the roads being too flooded around the medical complex to get out. We got to my appt. where my cancer is stable and not worse, labs drawn, IV for osteoporosis and two huge shots, one in each hip. Coming home we came home on the other side of Portland through the forests and part of the road was washed out but they were pouring gravel into it and we got through. Our timing was good because there have been many incidents where folks are stranded. I’ll get to each of you when I can. I have read your remarks and am thinking about each of you. So tired and sore from all that was done and the tense trip. Love to each, Sue

      • SUE…..OH MY GOODNESS, HOW SCARY WAS THAT FOR YOU BOTH, THANK THE LORD YOU MADE IT BACK HOME SAFE AND SOUND. STABLE SOUNDS GOOD, NO WORSE ALSO SOUNDS GOOD……YOU WILL BE SORE FROM THE SHOTS AND THE ORDEAL OF THE JOURNEY DEAR FRIEND, SO REST NOW AND GET YOUR STRENGTH BACK. …..I LOVE YOU……………………JENNIE X

  9. Well I slept for two hrs.stuff just don’t work
    It’s 1.30 am here
.hope you get over your trip sue.and it wasn’t too galling
    Back later
    Lyn hope you are well
    Chris

  10. Blimey sue what a blimmin trip!
Thank goodness it is over .hopefully the weather should be better next trip….
What is happening to all the weather..the country is all playing up and so much weather with it?.terrible weather here as well with similar to yourselves. Whole communities washed out .how they can survive all the time I don’t know
Take your time sue to get over it all
    Chris

    • Chris, feeling so rotten have no choice. It was a long day and yesterday seemed like I hardly moved but had to babysit after school. Weather still bad here with a new storm moving in with thunder and wind. I feel so badly for the ocean front motels, homes, etc. Lots of roads washed out and will take time to fix. Beth told me one of the nursing homes was isolated and they were trying to get boats in there to let the workers go home as they had been there for days.
Chris, I am so sorry to hear your Dad and the new caregiver are not getting on. She sounds a bit pushy and angry. Is he safe with her? I know he can be exasperating but gees…he has an excuse but her behavior doesn’t sound very professional. I hope you’re enjoying being at home and getting ready for Christmas. Later dear, Sue

      • Well spoke to carer today and seems ok ,asked my dad later .we say marks upto ten how things are and he said 5 ,yesterday they were 3 .i asked was he scared of her he said no
So maybe it will settle..but she does go on and on..her mother had Parkinson’s and she knows it all! When my cold is going I will go around
I said to her on phone to maybe not press the meds if he plays up with them.she said she doesn’t ,but it’s just she doesn’t shut up ! It goes on and on..
But keep an eye on it
The weather is so scary for all concerned.even here there were boats going up and down the streets..not by me but further up north
Folks cut off for days.it does sound similar to with you
Well still up 1.30am taken an amitryp still awake.. Hope you’ll feel easier tomorrow
        Chris

  11. Hello, everyone, sorry I haven’t been on in a while. I’ve been up to me ears here. Too much going on and too much to do! While Sue, Jennie and I imagine, Chris, have been having rough weather, ours has been mild. Temps up and down a bit, but mild for December. That has helped me some days, other days have been rougher. We need to replace pretty much all of our flooring, so I’ve been doing all the legwork for the first area to be tackled. Finally found the best flooring for our budget (it looks great, too) and I went yesterday to sign papers and give the down payment. Can’t wait! Still so much left to do for the holidays, though. I’m trying to wrap up shopping and get going with wrapping, 3 concerts coming up next weekend plus cantata at church, must keep up with the house as after Christmas will have to prepare for my husband’s family coming on New Year’s Day to celebrate our Christmas, New Year’s, and my great-niece’s first birthday! New little kitten, Luka, is doing very well, growing like a weed! Everyone is getting along, and we’re all super impressed by sweet Sadie dog. She has taken the little one under her wing, keeps tabs on him, plays so very gently with him, she really loves him. It’s so touching to see. I’ve really overdone it today and must close soon. My right forearm and hand are quite unhappy with me. Times like these I really wish I could get relief from pain meds. Maybe after I practice I’ll try good old Advil or Aleve and see if they help at least a little. Also have some Voltaren gel that might help a bit. Been having some vocal issues, likely from heading into menopause that I need to get a handle on. It is making this concert series very challenging for me, so I will be glad when they are over. I have an appointment with a local ENT and hope to get scoped and see for sure what is going on. Very stressful time. I think I’ve reached the limit of my right side. Sorry I can’t address each of you. Thank you to those who were asking and concerned, great to hear from so many and those we haven’t heard from In a while! Blessings to one and all! Take care 🙂

    • LYN…..THE GEL YOU ARE USING, CHECK THE CONTENT, BECAUSE THE NORM IS 1/2% BUT I HAVE A SIMILAR PRODUCT WHICH IS 10% AND HELPS A FAIR BIT. DOING TOO MUCH AS USUAL MY FRIEND, GOOD LUCK WITH THE FLOOR AND THE VOCAL CHORDS……ALL WILL BE WELL, STOP WORRYING. ……LOVE JENNIE X

      • I forget the %, but it is a prescription… I’ll have to look at it. Feeling better today, though, so that’s good. I have an afternoon activity planned, an outing at a local winery with friends from church. They do a Dickens theme there at Christmas time. It should be fun.

  12. Lyn
Good to hear from you.it all sounds hectic with you
Will you have the new floor for Xmas ?
I use that Voltarol gel..not sure if it works but keep using it!
    Chris

    • I know what you mean, Chris. The gel seems to work on some things but not others. No, we won’t have the floor for Christmas. It needs to be ordered, once in store they will call to schedule the install. Likely it will go in in January. That would be best so I don’t have to take down all the Christmas décor and put it back up again. 🙂 (I probably would leave it down, though. Too much work!)

      • Hi Lyn, just read on FB that you’re baking. Aren’t you something? I am sorry to hear about the trouble with your voice or vocal cords and do hope you get to see a specialist soon. I know how important singing is to you. I’ve known why we didn’t hear from you as this is your busiest musical time of the year each year. Hope you’re feeling well enough to thoroughly enjoy all the wonders of the season, musical and otherwise. Lucky you having such warm weather as we float and blos out here. Love ya, Sue

  13. Just looked at my Voltarol gel which I get on script …it says
    100 g gel
Contains diclofenac diethylammonium corresponding to 1 %w/w diclofenac sodium
Think it mite be starting to help my knee.its not stiff tho ,it just feels so tight above the knee can’t move it and it goes on me
Also I’ve started on some Naproxem meds he gave me a while ago..I just don’t like stuff with all these side effects ..but needs must and already my tum is on fire so that requires another med I have.so it Goes and on
Lyn I have such trouble with my vocal chords too.they had a look and they were inflamed…I find just inhaling plain steam with a towel over my head good. A few times a day…a pain in the neck I know but it feels better
    Back later Chris

    • Chris, Be sure you’re taking your Naproxam with food or milk. Glad the gel is helping a bit. Steam is good. Do you have a humidifier? I have one going every night, usually on cool because the heated side uses more water and it has to be filled more often…poor Jim. Hope your Dad’s situation is staying stable. How’s the rains over there? Still pouring here with high winds now starting today. I’ve been wrapping packages trying to get a start so I’m not miserable for Christmas. Hope you can talk to the doc and find something to help you sleep. We’ve tossed around so many ideas yet I don’t think I’ve ever asked you why? Is it the pain that wakens you, restlessness of muscles, etc, or is it a busy mind? Many causes for sleeplessness. Hope you’re able to enjoy the season at home. Love, Sue

  14. Hi Jen, Hope you’re getting in to see the doctor about the toe. No, it isn’t too small an item to concern you. If you’re in pain anywhere it is worth a question and search with the doc. Anything wrong with your feet can also cause your gait, walk, to be off and cause problems all over your body. I am sorry it’s so cold where you are but your local village sounds delightful indeed and festive.
I am recovering from the very long day and procedures in Portland and what a day it was. Our weather is still very wild and winds are now blowing with all the constant rain. So many folks have had trouble. it’s got to stop. Later dear, do take care, Sue

  15. HELLO…….WELL JUST A FEW GIFTS FOR THE NEIGHBOURS TO WRAP AND I AM DONE….WENT TO SEE THE DOC THIS MORNING SUE…..HE SAID IT WAS CHILBLAINS, DO YO CALL THEM THAT WHERE YOU ARE? I HAVE AN AMERICAN FRIEND WHO HAD NEVER HEARD OF THEM, HENCE THE QUESTION.
WELL THE GLASS IN THE FIRE SCREEN IS DUE TO BE FIXED AT LONG LAST THIS WEEK. BACK IN NOVEMBER THE CHIMNEY WAS SWEPT, AND THE GUY SMASHED IT, THEN CAME ALONG OVER A WEEK LATER AND PUT THE SPECIAL STUFF ON IT TO SEAL THE CRACK TILL THE GLASS WAS ORDERED……WE HAVE BEEN WAITING ALL THIS TIME, AND OVER THE WEEKEND, AS MY DH WAS PUTTING A LOG ON, THE WHOLE THING EXPLODED IN HIS FACE, AND HE WAS DAMNED LUCKY HE HAD HIS GLASSES ON, OR I DREAD TO THINK OF THE OUTCOME…….
ANYWAY, I TOOK PHOTO’S OF THE STATE OF THE GLASS AND TOOK IT IN TO THE SHOP THIS MORNING, AND THE GLASS WAS ON THE FLOOR WITH OUR NAME ON IT, SO I STILL SHOWED THE PHOTO TO THE GUY, AND TOLD HIM IT HAS TO BE SEEN TO THIS WEEK AS I WOULD HATE TO HAVE TO REPORT HIM TO THE AUTHORITIES….SO WATCH THIS SPACE.
SO SUE….YOU STILL HAVE THE RAIN, I HOPE IT WILL STOP SOON, ITS AWFUL IF YOU GET HOWLING WINDS TOO, SO MISERABLE…..ALSO I WISH YOU STRENGTH TO RECOVER FROM YOUR LAST ORDEAL, DOES IT MEAN YOU GET TO HAVE SOME PEACE FROM IT ALL UNTIL JANUARY?

CHRIS…….ARE THINGS SETTLING DOWN WITH YOUR DAD’S CARER? SHE IS PROBABLY KNOWS A LOT ABOUT PARKINSON’S FROM WHAT YOU SAID, BUT EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT, AND YOUR DAD SOUNDS AS IF HE KNOWS FOR HIMSELF WHAT HE NEEDS. HOW ARE YOU? HOW IS THE HEAD NOW…….ITS A NICE SUNNY DAY HERE, AND I THINK FOR YOU ALSO, GOING UP TO 15C IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WEEK…..NOT A BIT LIKE DECEMBER IS IT? SEEMS LIKE THAT FOR QUITE A FEW OF US, IN THE USA AS WELL AS US.

WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK OF SO MANY NATIONS GOING TO BE WORKING TOGETHER TO TRY AND HALT GLOBAL WARMING? HISTORY IN THE MAKING…..HOPE IT WILL WORK, AND EVERYONE WILL DO THEIR BEST FOR EACH OTHER.
    HAVE A GOOD DAY………………………………..JENNIE XXXXXXXX

    • Jennie, No, we don’t call it chilblains any longer but I know what it is. Not to be confused with frostbite which is different, it has to do with excesses exposure to heat or extreme cold if you already have a circulatory problem or neuropathy in your extremities. Do you have Raynaud’s syndrome? Guess it often goes along with rheumatoid disease. Aren’t we just so special? I know, we get tired of being special. Keep warm and move your foot as much as you can to get circulation going there. I do hope it’s feeling better.
Oh my gosh, you’re so right your dear man is fortunate to have escaped flying glass. I sure hope that guy gets out there very soon and takes care of that. I know how much you depend on your fireplace for your source of heat.
Sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier today. I had to go to the family practice doc today. Had not seen her since July because I’ve been so busy with the specialists. Also overdue at the lab for blood work for the rheumy and had to get a pneumonia shot. Doctor was saying anyone over 60 years old should have that overall pneumonia shot they are giving. Insurance is going to love it all because just had a lot of different lab work done at cancer doc on Thursday.
Rain has let up for a little while and we are actually have sun with cold temps. Forecast is for more rain and possibly snow in the next few days so we will see how it goes. Every hour it is dry gives many poor souls a chance to dry out. It’s this constant downpour that has been so nasty and caused so much damage.
You’re way ahead of me on the wrapping. I have wrapped each day for the last two and will probably take today off from all that. Have to let my back and feet rest. Ordered a delicious ham from a great place yesterday and some Danish pastries from Wisconsin. I am going to cook as little as possible and try to enjoy Christmas with family. I feel so much better than I did last year with a freshly crushed vertebra I want to enjoy it. Still have trouble going to the store or carrying packages to the post office. No cards to be sent this year I’m afraid.
Sure hope you get your glass put in. Love ya, Sue

  16. Good morning all:
Sue, glad to see you are feeling up to posting again. Was praying hard for you, as I knew this trip was going to be hard.
Lyn, we are having this wonderful weather as well. It is like March weather. Today it is misting rain and burst of wind. I have felt like a train wreck since Thursday last. Ra flare or FMS flare, they both feel the same. Stressing, I know what has caused it. My Frenchman is leaving today for France. So we are not sure the outcome of when he will be back. Just gotta pray for the best. Right ? Sad, but anxious for it to be done with as well. He is driving to Miami and will call me before he boards. Then a 7 hour layover in London, poor thing. He ran almost 7 miles yesterday (can you imagine ?) because of the travel and no exercise.
I have to start baking today. I have put it off all weekend, have butter layed out and all. Going to swim after this coffee, then back home to practice some songs for Sunday with my brother and his wife. THEN I will start some baking and preparations for candies. I still have to get some gift bags for 4 presents and I am done Jennie. I got a great big gift bag for both my kids and just put the stuff in it. I am not up to wrapping a bunch of gifts, just can’t do it. So… this is what they get. My son is coming up on Christmas Day, so I will see him and the kids. Which is great, cause I don’t want to go down to his house and have to be with his wife , I am afraid I would say something I shouldn’t.
Have a wonderful day all. I am off to swim
    Love you all
    Tonie

    • HI TONIE…..AH, I AM SO SORRY YOUR GUY HAS TO GO, BUT SOON YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM HIM, AND HE MAY KNOW MORE ABOUT WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO BE TOGETHER AGAIN……HE IS A VERY FIT MAN JUDGING BY WHAT YOU WERE SAYING. YES I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT THAT THE STRESS IS CAUSING ALL THESE FLARE UPS, SO YOU NEED TO BE CALM NOW, OR HE WILL BE CROSS WITH YOU……THINK AHEAD TO THE NEXT TIME.
SOUNDS LIKE A GRAND IDEA OF DEALING WITH THE GIFTS FOR YOUR FAMILY, I STRUGGLE WITH MY HANDS, AND I KNOW IT CAN BE DIFFICULT, MY DH HOLDS DOWN THE PAPER, AND I SLAP ON THE SELOTAPE……IT WILL HAVE TO DO.
WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO BAKE, SOMETHING MOUTHWATERING KNOWING YOU, IS IT FOR THE CHURCH OR FAMILY, OR BOTH?
HOW WONDERFUL FOR YOU TO HAVE YOUR SON WITH YOU ON THE BIG DAY, I AM HAPPY FOR YOU.
NOW THEN MRS, DON’T BE OVER DOING THINGS AND END UP FIT FOR NOTHING…..RIGHT???
      LOVE YOU………………….JENNIE X

      • Jen:
I am being have. I can’t concentrate on a lot . I made some peanutbutter pinwheels today. I have coconut macaroons for tomorrow, then fudge and cookies. I have been eyeballing some different recipes, but will be doing good to get these done. This is for family. For the Church thing on Sunday I am buying everything. Too much too close together for us to make it all. Yes, he is very fit. Has been an athlete all his life. But he is not pushy with it. Nor is he overbearing with it the way some are. Just the way he is.
Do take care and heal up them chillblaines.
        Love
        Tonie

    • Dearest Tonie, know you have found something special in your new relationship and feel your angst about him going so far away. Try to see it as the paperwork that he needs to provide for your life together. If the Lord brought you two together, then he will take care of this as well. I know you know this but after all…you’re only human and so smitten with this special man. What are the chances of you two finding each other? Pretty miraculous. It is going to be okay for you.
I am concerned about you doing too much with all the baking but know many family members and church folk depend on you. Just please, draw the line when you must, okay? How does that work out bagging all the stuff for the two families? Do you just tell the kids what is for each of them? Sounds like it will be a very exciting time. I’m pleased for you your son and grands will be there for Christmas day. What a lot of plans you have. Tires me out just reading about them but know it will be a blessed holy day for you. Do be good to you. Love, Sue

      • Sue:
I am dealing with it. But hey, you are right it will sort itself out. And we have to deal with all the bull crap that those in charge give us huh ?
When I said I wrapped it all together , I meant I have one bag that is just for each of my kids. The rest of them have individual packages, just not my two kids. My eyes are crossing now, and I have to close. Take care of yourself and be good.
I am not doing too much this year for the church, we are going to buy the food for Sunday night. So not to worry, and I am spacing my baking out so It isn’t too hard on me. Better than wrapping presents anyday !!
        Love ya
        Tonie

  17. Sue
I don’t know what wakes me up ..well needing to go to the bathroom does as I drink so much water and have weak bladder ….but I just wake every couple of hours anyway ..and it’s hard getting to sleep.
I think I’ve just got into that routine
I take gaviscon and have meds as well and I take the naproxen after meals…but it’s still playing up burning.i see the Dr on Thursday .as this headache only eases on the amitryp and they make me constipated and the meds for that give me ibs. It gives on
My dad seems happy again now .i think it’s the meds problem and my dad keeps saying he wants more sleeping tablets ..he is addicted to them taken them for 20 yrs more each time and he has had rows with Drs about them, that’s before his Parkinsons. So he is now taking the fibro drink for constipation and it works as long as he takes it.he argues he wants the lactose drink ,but he had to have thickened drinks thicker than yogurt to swallow.because of that he can’t drink the 2 litres of water required. We keep, telling him but he keeps not knowing…..or is it just forgetting!
Hope you are mending there now and resting
    Jen
No it’s dull and rainy and miserable today.havent been out..it feels like a Sunday today
Got the breathing physio tomorrow so will go and do a few things then and see my dad,my cold seems to have gone.hope they fix this glass pronto…I imagine you can’t use it as it is.good job Barry was ok after the glass exploded .it doesn’t bear thinking about it
    Tonie
It had to come and the time is here…..as it will be the other way about soon.
He must be very fit…7 mile run!
Just think on that stopover in London he’ll be thinking of you
Well it sounds your gonna be busy that’ll make time pass
I put my pressies in bags too.
    Ok all,back later
    Chris

    • Chris, I am upset to hear about your headaches continuing. I know amytrypt. is a good drug but also understand what it is doing to you. Oh, can’t life get complicated just striving to stay alive? I’ve often said if I wasn’t a nurse I would be long dead by now. I was thinking about you today when I got home from my family practice doctor and had been out in the cold and my eyes were hurting. There are so many “little” things to think about each day for each of us.
Sounds like your Dad does have a problem with the sleeping pills, oh my. Does he sleep well? Hope there is still peace in his household. Not much to be done since he must maintain his stubbornness. All you can do is draw the line and stick to it. Did his caregiver take your advice and leave his pills if he decides not to take them. At this point it seems most dangerous for him to take too many; especially sleeping pills.
Hope you are enjoying the beauty of your surroundings during this blessed season. I’m all out of any helpful ideas for you to sleep. Have you tried warm milk with a slug of liquor in it? That would really make you have to get up and go during the night. Much love, Sue

  18. Sue.what do you call chilblains over with you?
All seems friendly with the two of them at moment.she said that he neednt take the memory med,but then she said he needs it .then as I couldn’t get out of her what was happening I tried to speak to my dad and couldn’t make anything out there so I just said he should take it that was best and the next day she said he took them.. As for the sleeping meds she won’t give him more than is prescribed. She sticks to that so that’s good ..it just causes ructions and she gets worked up . But I think she is quite safe with him.my dad has a bad temper he and my mum used to row bad all the time . That’s one thing that ran thru my childhood
    And it’s 2.30 am here …oh dear!
I know I’ve tried it all to get to sleep..can’t take alcohol.i get palpitations with it. But warm milk I do have maybe I shouldn’t have hot choc tho with the caffeine .as I have decaf tea and no coffee as that gives me palpitations…but I used to be awake before I started the hot chocolate . Odd that that doesn’t give me palpitations
It could be all the fluid lost during the nite.with my diet I weigh at different times and I loose 3 lb over nite usually .but that’s not the only reason . Can’t get to sleep either……so I just accept it and do something
Which I’m gonna do now got some washing to sort out
    Chris

  19. HELLO……..SUE……HOPE YOU ARE OK, ITS COLD AND WET HERE, SO BEGINNING TO FEEL MORE LIKE WINTER NOW, WISH THE GUY FROM THE SHOP WOULD CALL TO SAY HE IS COMING TO FIX THE GLASS IN THE FIRE, I CAN’T FACE HAVING TO GO DOWN THERE AGAIN TO CHASE THEM UP, ITS SOUL DESTROYING.

TONIE…..YOUR BAKING SOUNDS SO WONDERFUL, I WOULD GIVE A LOT TO COME AND SHARE SOME OVER A CUP OF TEA. BET THE KIDS WILL LOVE IT ALL, AND THERE WILL BE MUCH FUN AND LAUGHTER GOING ON. WILL YOU BE IN TOUCH WITH YOUR GUY ON CHRISTMAS DAY? IN FRANCE THEY CELEBRATE ON CHRISTMAS EVE, AND RECOVER ON CHRISTMAS DAY. HE SOUNDS SUCH A LOVELY MAN, AND AS SUE SAYS, YOU HAVE BEEN BROUGHT TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

CHRIS…..ITS DULL AND RAINING HERE TOO, AND STARTING TO FEEL COLD, LONGING TO LIGHT THE FIRE, BUT CAN’T NOW TILL THE GLASS HAS BEEN REPAIRED, FEELING A BIT DEPRESSED ABOUT IT ALL NOW, ITS GONE ON TOO LONG. I AGREE WITH SUE IN REGARDS TO YOUR DAD, IF THE PILLS ARE LEFT FOR HIM, HE COULD STORE THEM UP AND TAKE TOO MANY, DON’T LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT.
CHILBLAINS, AS FAR AS I KNOW, ARE CALLED PERNIO IN THE USA….IS THAT RIGHT ANYONE? THIS ONE ON MY TOE IS A RIGHT BUGGER AS IT PRESSES ON ALL MY FOOTWEAR, SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW DIFFICULT IT IS T GET AROUND WITHOUT FLINCHING ALL THE TIME.
YOU SOUND LIKE YOU HAVE TRIED MOST THINGS TO GET TO SLEEP CHRIS……HAVE YOU TRIED “NIGHTNURSE” ? JUST A THOUGHT!!!

    HAVE A GOOD DAY EVERYONE…………………MUCH LOVE…JENNIE XXX

    • Hi Jennie, oh dear. You do need that fire. I certainly hope the glass man moves his tush and gets out there right away. I’m so sorry you’re having that inconvenience and hope you’re staying warm. ALso, still thankful your DH was not more seriously wounded with that glass exploding everywhere.
I’m sorry you’re not looking forward to Christmas but do understand that is how we mothers are. We need our children even if they appear to not need us. It passes on, this love, doesn’t it? That’s the way of life. My dear, i am not familiar with that term for chilblains and not really sure we have an American name for them other than neuropathy or poor circulation. I have a great deal of pain in my toes when I wear socks from the pressure as I walk and in this weather that’s a must. I sympathize completely when you don’t even want the covers touching them. I have found some relief, enough to get under the covers, from Gabapentin. I can only take small doses but it does help to calm those extremities when they get upset.
Sweet friend, please look for some joy this season and I know you will feel better when you get the fireplace back in order. Just getting my day started so must do just that. Love, Sue

  20. Hya Jen
Nope that’s one thing I haven’t . I think I may have checked on its side effects to do with my tingling or palpitations ,but have to do it again …only thing is you can’t keep taking all this stuff and so I don’t feel as if I can. I’m just stuck with it.been like it for years
Went to physio, just go back if I want to.its called an sos with them for three months .
Saw the letter the ent dr wrote to my dr and she’s gotta refer me to a rheumy and prescribe this expensive mouth stuff,…see her Thursday
Oh I hope you get your fire done. Blimmin lot..it needs the two of us there ! You and I would get them going….well the fire anyway!
Just come back ,hosp ,shopping then my dad.
Oh the carer has her daughter there staying till Friday ..she’s very nice .6 months pregnant .but sharing the small double bed with her mum..so it’s quite cosy.its only a small room as well.i didn’t know
I suppose she asked my dad was it ok..the ladies were saying how quiet he was.she won’t let him go to town at moment… It’s so busy and all. So I understand that..but my dad is also refusing antibiotics ,wouldn’t take them for a day but now is taking them and forgets he didn’t she was explaining to me ..oh sh.t.it goes on…but I think it would be quite nice this young girl staying there. But I suppose he sees her going with her daughter and not him. The quietness might be becos the ladies quite like the carer and my dad can’t complain therefore he’s playing quiet..if you see what I mean
    All good fun..
So I’ve only got a few more pressies to buy for my dad
Did you see the rocket launch today I missed it as at hosp but saw it on news ..he looks a nice man.i thought it was great. Have to see it passing over.his kids must be so proud
    Ok off to do summat
    Chris

    • Hey all
Chris you have so much with your dad. He forgets a lot of things. So much of the memory goes with age. I have to repeat things all the time she even forgets her daughters name. Lol. But she had a stroke
I heard from my Frenchman this morning. He was in London waiting for his flight.
So by now he should be home resting
Jennie wish we could all sit down together with a cup and some goodies. Wouldn’t that be grand ?
      Everyone have a wonderful day
      Love
      Tonie

      • Tonie, I hope you got some comfort from hearing your Frenchman’s voice. Glad that phones have made our world small enough to reach out at time’s like this. Does he have more family there to celebrate with over the Holy days ahead? I know he’d rather be back with you. Funny how the first blush of love can be so strong and so compelling no matter how old we become and the wonder of love is that it can be renewed for us old married folks as well. I know you’re staying busy but you’re right, I do get concerned for you and know how much you always do for the holidays. I know you’re trying to keep your mind and heart off of missing him but also know how consumed you are by your big family. I’m so happy for Nikki this year. It will be one of the best Christmases she has had in a very long time. Thinking of you all with love, Sue

    • HI CHRIS…..YES I DID SEE THE LAUNCH, IT WAS AMAZING, BIT OF HISTORY THERE FOR US HUH?
WELL IT COULD BE A GOOD THING FOR YOUR DAD TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE TO TALK TO AS WELL AS THE CARER, IT CAN’T BE VERY COMFORTABLE BOTH SQUASHED UP IN THE SAME BED THOUGH WITH HER 6/12 GONE.
WHAT HAVE YOU BOUGHT FOR YOUR DAD? WHAT ARE HIS INTERESTS?
THE FIRE MAN NEVER CAME, SO I RANG THE OFFICE, I TOLD THEM WE HAD FAMILY COMING TOMORROW EVE FOR CHRISTMAS AND IT HAD TO BE DONE BEFORE THAT, HE ASSURED ME HE WOULD BE ALONG TOMORROW FOR SURE………….FEEL LIKE CRYING TO BE HONEST, I HATE BLOODY CHRISTMAS BAH HUMBUG…..DON’T SEE A SOUL, AND MISS MY KIDS SO MUCH, JUST WANT IT TO BE OVER……..OH DEAR!!
      JEN X

    • Chris, hope you slept a bit better last night. Oh my but what you go through at night and it all makes the days so much harder, I know. Yes, it’s terrible what they’re going through in LA. These animals in the world have our whole world torn up and afraid. Our leadership in this country is so weak it is appalling.
I would agree that cocoa might not be good if you are sensitive to the caffeine but I know it is a comfort food at bedtime. I drink a lot of the nutritious supplement ENSURE and cannot handle the chocolate flavor because they use real cocoa. I have to stick to the vanilla or strawberry flavor…no seeds, just flavor.
Chris, I think you’re taking the whole situation with your Dad’s caregiver moving in her daughter quite well. I would not. That is highly unprofessional and I don’t know of any homehealth agency I ever heard of over here that would allow that. She is there to do a job. It also must alienate your Dad and make him feel left out. Not good but that’s your call.
Very cold here but no snow or frost. Rain letting up a bit, Thank God. Many roads still out due to slides, etc.
My goodness Chris but you deal with so much and so much of it we share. I do understand. Do take care as best you can. How’s DH? Love ya, Sue

  21. Tonie
He’ll be missing you on his own…that’s good …
I bet it won’t be long till you hear him again
Just think the noise we’d all make together we would really raise the roof
Terrible the schools all shut in LA.
    Chris

  22. Jen
    Just seen your post
My dads interests were sport and sport.esp, golf
He can’t read now..so it’s all homemade jams ,selections of chocs and biscuits.smelly things etc.so it’s a collection of all the sort of stuff
Well good luck for it to be fixed tomorrow …watch this space stuff!
    Chris

  23. Quick note
I was trying to see the best side of it with being unsure of the whole situation.but just rung my dad and she has gone back to her own home. It’s so difficult with the language to understand. So she’s not staying there . So I feel better about that . As I felt my dad was quiet becos of that ,but it may be the antibiotics doing it.
    Chris

    • Chris, That’s good. Another language being spoken around him is even more alienating. I used to be a supervisor part time at a hospital where most of the nurses were from the Philippine Islands and we had to watch that they did not speak their language, Filipino, in front of the patients. It makes the patients feel less at home and less safe. Someone who needs care is already vulnerable and in a weakened position and it’s a real challenge to help them feel empowered without giving them the ability to hurt themselves. Tricky. I think you’ll worry less, also. It could be that the caregiver’s supervisor also didn’t like that situation. Take care sweet friend, Sue

  24. Well more to it I found out
The daughter drove up this morning and went around the town with her mum. When I went in she was lying down on the bed ..hence all the mixup. Anyway she went back earlier on.she was nice and stuff.mjust came to see her mum
But I know what you mean with another language I understand that and my dad
So after me speaking to him about his memory tablet ..he hasn’t taken for a week.he told me he heard on TV there’s nothing you can take to improve it so he mite as well keep not taking it…so i said your quite right dad you can’t get your memory back this was to stop it going…So he is now going to start it tomorrow .this one stops hallucinations too so maybe this was all the trouble
Anyway just made a sweet potatoes and potato mash and some carrots all to go with a chicken and leek mushroom casserole tomorrow .it was a joy to cook with not having done while on my diet.
Just put Voltarol gel and heat on my knee. That’s what the physio advised this morning I know I saw her about breathing but I hijacked her with my knee!
Just watched them speaking from space to their families it’s so great and teary as well
    Chris

    • Chris, good that things worked out for the caregiver situation. That sounds better. I think you’re going to constantly have problems with your Dad taking his meds but that is not that unusual with folks his age and if he’s always been a bit cantankerous then, there you have it.
I’ve had our new on and off most of the day and haven’t hear anything about a rocket or whatever it is you and Jennie are talking about. Strange our news is totally obsessed with terrorist threats instead. What’s the deal? Just when you have time, please let us know.
Your cooking sounds so good. I’ve lost more weight but find cooking still so painful with all the standing. Sounds like you’ve reached your target weight which is wonderful. Later..you sleep if you can. Sue

  25. Sue
It’s the international space satellite …a rocket took up a new crew from Russia today and one of them was a UK fella.it was so good to watch it go up and speaking to their families once they got there.
I’ve reached my target weight for now.have to manage it to stay the same for a bit.then 4 lbs by the summer..so not so bad.staying the same is the worst bit
Yep the standing is a pain I manage it in bits the previous nite then more the next day..but I know you are much worse than me
With all this talking and understanding the carer I feel almost like speaking with the same inflection!
What a rotten thing that hoax with these schools….it’s all so scary..and that’s what they want. But hec how can you live being so scared all the time …got no choice
Yep no hot chocolate tonite..it won’t make any difference I bet! Taken half an amytrip
    Chris

    • Chris, Good luck tonight. Wish we could find an answer for you. Sue P.S. Thanks for the info about the satellite. Nope, nothing I saw over here on the news. 25 hour news you’d think they’d cover it.

    • Tonie,, Thanks for sharing. Interesting article. Everyone is discovering more and more the importance of D3. It’s use for osteoporosis is also important. Interesting about pain. Sue

  26. Tonie
The Dr here has tested me for Vit D on two occasions,it’s been normal. But apparently it’s low as well in MS especially in countries with less sun. In Scotland MS is more prevalent there. Just shows you how eating properly is so important
My tooth broke yesterday gotta get Intouch with dentist when they open.it was a corner of it but it’s filled a lot
    Chris

  27. Good morning peeps !
Hope this finds all of you hale and hearty ! Chris I didn’t know that about Scotland. My sister’s friend has MS and two of her sisters also have it. Prayers for her as she is in bad need of it.
Sue hope you are recovering nicely from your trip. I am up early to get some shopping done for the Christmas treats on Sunday before work. Just am not into facing those crowds in the afternoon. Plus the shelves are not getting stocked quickly enough. Everyone is in the “foul” last days mood. So many people I encountered yesterday with the frowns on their faces. I try to stay positive and give a smile, but it is hard with some of the encounters you have.
Got some things made last night. Baked some coconut macaroons, I love them. Always freeze my left over egg whites to make them. And some chocolate chip cookies, which are a must. I think I will make some peanut butter ones. My brother loves them, and I haven’t made them in ages. I have church tonight and must go practice for Sunday night. So no time to bake tonight as I will be worn out afterwards. This is the time where everything is in fast forward mode until Christmas. Hurry and worry about what and how and who etc !
It turned colder last night. Had to turn on the heat 🙂 There is a frost on this morning and the horses are waiting on me to come and feed them , so I better get with it.
Love and kisses to you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, sorry you’re running into so many humbugs. I suspected as much; you are doing too much. Sounds like you’re baking for the whole family…extended as well. I know they probably expect it, right?
No, as for me not quite over hideous day in Portland just yet and had trip to local doc on Monday with lab, shot, etc. At least we’re having rain just yet today but it is supposed to rain from now for next two weeks. I’m really worried about so many folks in the outlying areas around here. The ground is so saturated and the rivers and creeks are overflowing already. The folks at the ski resorts are happy though. Do take care of you, Love, Sue

  28. How awful to have ms in the family like that.yes prayers for them indeed
Went to dentist half the tooth which was the filling has broke so gotta have it done tomorrow .felt something happen to it a few weeks ago but ignored it,but loosing little lumps now.
So am busy tomorrow Drs in the morning for me,DH has to have another blood test then The dentist .do wish life would flow without medical stuff happening all the blimmin time..as well we all know
My dad forgot about that Xmas dinner …..I wrote that speech for him.he rang the day before for this blokes phone no to pick him up..so I presumed all was ok.well on that day the carer took him out to the shops and he wasnt there to be picked up. He forgot. He does sound in a mess when you talk to him
I should have reminded him but I was out of it over the weekend and spent most of it in bed due to my headache
The dentists chair today sort of bumped my head coming up to..normal people it would only be a little tap Not me I all sorts of shooting pains!
    Ok back later chris

    • Oh Chris, I am sorry so much has hit you at once. I know exactly how you feel with the tooth business and am waiting with a temporary right now for the crown to be made. How awful for you that you bumped your head at the dentists office I’m so sorry. Tell them when you go in next time to treat you with more care, okay? Is the headache worse now? Dear friend, you can’t blame yourself for your Dad missing the meeting. DId the caregiver know he had a meeting to go to? So much happening all at the same time. You have to take care of yourself or he will be up a creek, right? I hope you are getting enough rest. Did you have a chance to see the doctor about another med for sleep and headache? Hugs to you from across the pond. What a week it has been for all of us. Love, Sue

  29. HELLO……WELL IT SEEMS I MAYBE ONE OF THOSE HUMBUGS…..BUT IF YOU HAD HAD A COUPLE OF CRAP SO CALLED (AND I USE THE TERM LOOSELY) WORKMEN STORMING THROUGH YOUR HOUSE, AFTER WAITING MANY DAYS FOR A REPAIR TO BE DONE WHICH WAS SO DAMN DANGEROUS AND BODGED BY THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE, MAYBE ITS UNDERSTANDABLE.
THEY STORMED THROUGH OUR HOME, DESTROYING ALL THE DECORATIONS AND MY CARPETS, EVERYTHING IS A MESS, AND I JUST DON’T KNOW WHERE TO START PUTTING IT RIGHT. I CANNOT TACKLE THINGS LIKE THIS NOW, JUST HAVEN’T GOT THE ENERGY…………..SO SORRY IF I SOUND LIKE THE GRINCH…THAT’S LIFE……..JENNIE

    • Oh Jennie, How awful. What a bunch of inconsiderate numskulls. I know, I know they caused the problem with the fireplace to begin with. Just leave that room and take a deep breath. Getting this upset is so bad for you. No, You can’t go after them. I can only imagine all the inventive ways you would like to get revenge but they might lock you up for that. Don’t want to have to catch a flight and bail you out because my passport is not up to date. Seriously though, I hope DH is able to help you get the carpet cleaned and as far as Christmas, it looks like this is going to be a low key Christmas and possibly a lonely one for you both. I hope you can share some time with friends or go out to one of those wonderful restaurants you like so much. Hugs and empathy from the USA for you my very dear lady. Love, Sue

      • HELLO

SUE….DON’T BE WORRIED, I WON’T DO ANYTHING SILLY, I FEEL LIKE KNOCKING THEIR HEADS TOGETHER FOR ALL THE HEARTACHE AND DISREGARD THEY HAVE CAUSED US, BUT THEY ARE BIGGER THAN ME………
CARPET IS A WRITE OFF, AND ANOTHER ONE FROM THE UK IS ON ITS WAY, AND THEY SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY THE BILL….BUT THE WON’T SO JUST GOT TO LET IT GO.
YES IT WILL BE LONELY THIS CHRISTMAS FOR US, BUT ITS ONLY A DAY, WE WILL GET THROUGH IT, NEVER FEAR.
        LOVE YOU LOTS…..JEN X

    • Dear Jennie, So sorry to hear about your troubles. Christmas is no longer a happy time for me either. My only suggestion for you is to do one thing at a time and don’t stress out over what doesn’t get fixed. Prayers and positive energy coming your way. Love you, take care of you first, You are more important than any mess.. Janet

      • JANET….YOU ARE SWEET, AND I FULLY INTEND TO TAKE YOUR ADVICE, I HATE THAT YOU ARE ALONE TOO, IT SUCKS HUH? WISH YOU COULD COME HERE TO US…..LOVE YOU ….JENNIE X

  30. Well
Went to dentist looking after my head this time and guess what a piece of the stuff she uses for drilling whizzed out underneath the protective glasses into my eye..so I’m using drops and ointment.its gonna get you one way or the other!
Also Dr found my heart beat had one downbeat for every three..so I got a heart trace tomorrow
    And had some bloods taken
Also I got this blimmin speech to send along with the Xmas card to this bloke and wanted his address.rang him and my dad had wanted his phone no.as he cancelled going.he never told me and there was me feeling guilty
My dr said she thought my head was a mixture of neuropathy and tension. Well I never!! Who would have thought of that!….
So she said to keep taking the amytrip…and stop the naproxen until all tests done. Got the gelclaire for mouth ..well will when script reaches chemist and he orders it.
They do it electronically from Drs?..huh..it backs up in the system .why can’t I have it in my paw instead! I can get it straight away…
Oh well got washing on.waiting for Jen to ring .blimmin workmen
    Chris

    • Well Chris, that big black cloud over your head seems to be hanging around. I am so sorry and pray your eye will be okay. How painful and with your sensitive eyes, too. I know it’s all so discouraging. Yes, our doctors enter scripts on the computer, also. I obtain most of my meds via the mail because I can get a 3 month supply that way and it is so much easier that way. I would be overwhelmed with all the meds I take if I had to keep calling every month. I wonder why your doc took you off the NSAID? I suspect she just didn’t want you taking anything that might cause bleeding and the NSAID’s are famous for that in the gut, etc. Do you have something safe to take for the discomfort in your eye dear girl? I sure hope so.
As far as your Dad he is being so unkind to you it ticks me off. Apparently he is playing games with you again and may know he is or maybe he doesn’t know. I don’t like this latest caregiver. She sounds like someone who can cause trouble and I worry about the environment it creates for him but it is not for me to judge. I’m just basing this on all the things you have said about her in the last couple of weeks.
Well, I am trying to wrap up the Christmas wrapping today and tomorrow. We have rain and will have for a couple of weeks. Next week I’ll clean house, sort of. We usually have Christmas Eve dinner here and open our presents then. On Christmas Day Beth and her DH usually have a brunch then we come home to rest then go over to his brother’s for a Christmas Day crab and leftover feast. He’s the brother who bought the old VIctorian mansion and is fixing it up. Anyone on FB will have seen the pics I posted of its progress. He’s a bachelor and enjoying the project very much. He owns the local lumber yard with our SIL.
Hope you’re feeling better over the weekend and I’ll be thinking of you. Write if you have any questions. Love you, Sue

    • HI CHRIS……HOPE YOU EYE IS OK TODAY, WHAT A THING TO HAPPEN…….
HOW DID THE HEART TRACE GO, AND THE BLOODS, YOU WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE RESULTS I EXPECT, HOPE THEY ARE THROUGH BEFORE CHRISTMAS. GOOD LUCK WITH THE GELCLAIRE, HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU LOVE……………………JEN X

  31. Sue
Yep I am not assured with all this going on.im sure the carer would have heard my dad on the phone call to cancel going. As she hears me talking to my dad when I’m there and comes in to interject
I asked to speak to her tonite as he seemed very gurgley and to call the Dr tomorrow.she says no he’s fine .well he maybe but she is very opiniated and overrules things ..he has been sleeping when I’m there and most of the days and seems weaker . So ill ring him tomorrow and see.and just tell her I’m calling him myself if I feel I should
Your Xmas sounds busy…and more sparky than last year for you
My eye feels easier with all the stuff in it
We got a nice email from an acquaintance who lives near our shed
We’d left a light on and she went around and checked for us and asked could she do anything .arent there some nice highlights sometimes!
    Chris

    • Chris, indeed, last year I could hardly move at Christmas due to the crushed vertebra I got last October. It was the worst Christmas i have even had. This year is looking better but I have taken many shortcuts with ordering a special ham to be delivered and some pastries from back east. I am wrapping a bit each day, decorated only a little but enough for Jim and I to get in the spirit. He’s home more now as he has a lot of vacation days to use up before he eventually retires. It’s nice.
Chris, as far as your Dad, it is your decision if your Dad is too congested and wet in the chest. It is not her call and if you don’t trust her completely, then to heck with her opinions. I know that’s rough but it’s safe. I know you don’t need anymore frustration right now. How nice of the neighbor to give you a call. The world is full of so many fine folks, you know? Take care of you. Love, Sue

  32. To hear the two words ,retiring and Jim in the same sentence…wo hoo and vacation as well!
    Must be so good …
And yea I will certainly look to doing that tomorrow if I think things are not good
Shortcuts who worries it all be great
    Chris

  33. Hi
Blood tests have come back normal.just waiting Dr to see heart trace.but had it done late and with the week end ..I don’t expect it till Monday now
    My eye is much easier
Started this gelclaire..seems to be very drying to me and a bit stingy in places ..so have to see how it goes.it gives a coating in the mouth
Went to see my dad today he was sleeping. Had difficulty waking him up . Didn’t hear him speak much just a few words so not sure..will talk to him later after he he’s eaten..he smiled when the Carer said there’s Chris to see you.
    Back later
    Chris

    • Chris, glad the blood tests are okay. ALso, pleased the eye is easing. Could have been bad. Your Dad sleeping is a bit worrisome. Sounds like he might not be getting enough oxygen or she is allowing him to take his sleeping pills too late or during the day. Both are suspicious but do think he would have awakened after he smiled that you were there. Could simply be his congestive failure is worse. Does he wear oxygen? Hope you got to talk to him later in the day. Thinking of you and him. How your headaches?
Wrapping here and mopping the floor with the Scooba. Trying to do things ahead so I can enjoy the holidays ahead. Sun out right now but rained this AM and more rain predicted for later. Beth and I going over menu tonight so we will know where we’re going with the Christmas meals. Nice to have a daughter who cooks as does her DH. Grands over after school today and little Georgie is at vet getting his teeth cleaned. Know he’ll be glad to get home later. He’s so tiny any anesthesia worries me but we have a good vet. Hope you’re getting some decent amounts of sleep. Love, Sue

  34. Jennie, I haven’t answered your remarks because I did on FB. Hope you’re over the trauma, hope the house is warm and that beautiful new rug arrives very soon. Try to enjoy the season sweet lady even if it is going to be a lonely one. Love you, Sue

    • SUE………..YES WE HAVE WRITTEN ON F/B, BUT STILL WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR CARING. RUG ON ITS WAY, DOESN’T MATTER IF ITS AFTER NOÉL, AS I CAN HIDE THE MESS TEMPORARILY, NOT GOING TO MAKE A FUSS AS THERE ARE WORSE THINGS GOING ON FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO HOMES TO PUT A RUG DOWN………GOT A GOOD MENU FOR THE DAY, EVEN IF IT IS FOR TWO……JUST WISH I COULD BE RID OT THESE CHILBLAINS, GOT A FEW MORE NOW, AND WALKING IS GETTING TO BE A BIT OF A BIND…….
SOUNDS LIKE YOU WILL BE HAVING A BUSY TIME IN THE RUN UP TO NOÉL SUE…….PLENTY OF HELP FROM YOUR DD AND GRANDS, SHOULD BE FUN….WISH I HAD A SCOOBA, WONDER WHAT MY SACHA WOULD MAKE OF THAT……..I LOVE YOU…..JEN XX

      • Jennie, My Scooba is at least ten years old and is not working well right now. The good news is that many other companies are making both wet and dry floor cleaners and most of them are less expensive than I Robot brand. I think I’ll look into a new one after we get over the shock of Xmas and all the expenses…strictly my fault although Jim also loves to shop but he does his the last day or two. I know, I know…
I am sorry to hear you’re still being tortured by chilblaines and pray they let us. Got a few more presents to wrap so must get off my rear and get something done. Jim and I watched Cesar Millan all morning on TV so we were both lazy. He’s had to go over to the jail now and check on things and I am supposed to be productive according to me…Today is methotrexate day so I’m sore, grouchy and hoping it gets to work fast. Later dear, Sue

  35. Sue
Yes so good to have DD who is good cook to go to Xmas day
Oregon was on the news here about your weather but I just missed it,just saw the last bit
Coming off the amytrip again and rotten dreams
My dad…..everyone at the centre says he is so quiet .his head is right down on his chest, the specialist said it was the Parkinson’s.
The Dr. When he had septicaemia said he would get weaker, this was Two years ago tho.
He sounded not too bad when I talked to him later..but he said …Chris I’m a cripple, can’t move my legs at all …he sounded so week .
I said dad can I call a Dr out it’ll be Monday now …he said yes but a man
Well I’ll try my best but I will call one Monday . I said I will just tell the carer on the Monday …I wonder if she is giving the meds out of time…I just don’t know..she comes over she is doing good and all the centre says she is good….it’s such a worry. No he’s not on 02.
She talks to me when I go around and tells me what she is doing for him and how he is improving now he’s taking the meds as he should On my mind all the time
We have booked to go for Sunday lunch out at the coast and going tomorrow coming back Monday
My head is easier on the amytrip but see what happens again coming off
No results of ECG yet. Monday now
Hope the wrapping went ok and geogie returned all bright eyed
    Live Chris

    • Chris dear, I don’t mean to worry you about the caregiver for your Dad; I’ve just seen so much elder abuse it makes want to say, “Just keep an eye out for her.” I know with Parkinson’s it is very progressive and can be so difficult poor dear man. It’s terrible to be so disabled as many of us know to just a small degree of what he’s going through on this slide of life. I’m a bit surprised he isn’t on O2.
I’m so glad you’re getting away for the weekend. Hope it will be very festive for you. I’m sure all will be aglow. Yes, George seems a little upset by our taking him there to the vet but will be fine in time. He’s glad to be home. I missed him terribly. Apparently they all fell in love with him. Why are you trying to get off the amytrip. as long as you have headaches? Just wondering.
Chris, I wish you’d consider going on FB. You miss out on some things. One of my readers posted an older blog of mine from 2009 and it has been well received by so many. I had forgotten all about it as there have been so many. I know you have your reasons. Have a great trip and check in with us when you can. Much love, Sue

  36. Well hereI go again
    Yep sue all is ok
Firstly my dad..not sure of how the carer is.he said they had a row today he shouted at her after tho ,I said doesn’t the neighbour hear he said yes..but the carer said yesterday that he says the neighbour had loud music on till two in the morning….well she doesn’t so this is part of his hallucinations. It seems there is always a story to fit anything I just don’t know I’m not there to see all the time
Also his neighbour and a daughter and carer and him are having a meal at Xmas the carer is cooking and I know my dad is paying for it all.i know the neighbours daughter Stole money off her mother once and also police have been involved sometimes..so I told my dad not to sign anything without showing me
    What a pickle
The reason I’ve come away whilst all is going down the swanny is its my birthday tomorrow 20 th and we decided to come for Sunday lunch in our favourite haunt ..also had a box of chocs tonite and already feeling fat! But go back Monday …lol on my diet and home…also find out what my ECG is
The amitryp..the Dr once said to me to try always to come off to see if the neuropathy has gone..so with that and the dryness and constipation and also the ibs from the stuff for the constipation that’s what I’m doing ,hopefully all will be ok this time
    Facebook…well I don’t know why I’m a whimp with it.always concerned I’ll press the wrong thing
So I’m looking forward to beef, roast pots..etc ..pudding.. And it’s gonna be sunny too.it was 61 f here today strange weather daffodils out etc

Jen poor you more chilblains you’ve got them going there for some reason.i wonder why this year
    Anything you can think of?
Can you go to the chemist there and see what they’ve got
    Chris
    Hope this gives on

    • Well Chris, you made it. Happy birthday tomorrow and wish you felt that young, huh? I can understand dear lady that you can’t be with your Dad all the time and keeping informed is all you can do. The neighbor’s daughter again. SHe sounds like a piece of work indeed. I hope your Dad is able to eat o Christmas and is up to some enjoyment. You will be at home, is that right or are you both going back over to the beach house? Imagine, daffodils? The closest we can come to that is a tall, very wet camellia bush with about 2000 hard buds on it. Still wet here and more on the way. Enjoy all!! Love, Sue

    • HI CHRIS…….BET YOU ARE AT THE PUB/RESTAURANT RIGHT NOW ENJOYING YOUR ROAST BEEF AND YORKSHIRE PUD…..HOPE YOU ARE NOT WORRYING ABOUT YOUR DIET, BIRTHDAYS ARE NON DIET DAYS, AND YOU HAVE LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT THAT PUTTING ON THE ODD POUND WILL BARELY MAKE A DIFFERENCE, SO ENJOY YOUR DAY.
I REALLY DON’T KNOW WHY THE BLOODY CHILBLAINS HAVE COME THIS YEAR WHEN ITS BEEN SO MILD, AS ITS COMMON KNOWLEDGE THEY ARE COLD WEATHER PROBLEMS. YES I GOT SOME STUFF FROM THE PHARMACIE, IT SOOTHES BUT DOESN’T HEAL. BEEN TOLD RAW POTATO SLICES RUBBED ON IS SUPPOSED TO HELP………..I COULD ALWAYS MAKE THEN INTO FRIES WHEN I’D FINISHED WITH THEM…..OF COURSE I AM KIDDING!!!!!!
IT’S TOO MILD INIT? WE NEED SOME REALLY COLD STUFF TO GET RID OF ALL THE GERMS, WHOEVER HEARD OF IT IN THE MID SIXTIES AT THIS TIME OF YEAR??

SUE….ISN’T THAT TYPICAL OF MEN TO LEAVE THEIR SHOPPING TILL THE LAST MINUTE, BUT I GUESS IF IT WORKS FOR THEM ?????
GLAD YOU HAVE HELP WITH ALL YOUR PREPARATIONS, HAVE YOU AND BETH DECIDED ON YOUR MENU YET, HOW MANY ARE YOU CATERING FOR? I KNOW YOU TOLD ME YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR DREADED MEDS NOW, HOPE YOU SOON RECOVER FROM THEM AND ARE ABLE TO ENJOY YOUR FAMILY AND ALL THE COMINGS AND GOINGS……..XXXXX

      LOVE TO ALL…………………JENNIE X

      • Jennie, I was curious about cures for chilblains and looked it up on Wikipedia. Have you checked it out on there yet? They have some good ideas on there you might want to try. I am sorry it is still so painful.
As far as Christmas Eve it will just be the 7 of us. Beth and I are planning for leftovers for the next day, like ham and potato salad. SIL’s brother who is redoing the Victorian usually buys crab for that dinner to have with leftovers. I usually have a bad bout of IBS right after CHristmas and have no remorse. I get tired of this disciplined eating of potatoes, noodles, eggs, etc. Have to go off the grid now and then, especially at Christmas. I am okay. Yesterday was a bad day because it’s the one day a week I take the methotrexate and is usually a rotten day, physically. Today is better and we are having pouring rain. There have been so many mudslides all over the state that folks are nervous. So many beautiful homes heading into the ocean or highways sliding. We need it to stop. Do take care of those feet, okay? Love you, Sue

  37. Yea ok I’m 68 and feel it…but tomorrow I’m gonna enjoy
Xmas day we are meeting over at my dads..that’s DD GS and DDs partner and Us.but they are leaving to pick up his daughter then going home, GS is then going to his dad’s and his side of family and later we are going to the shed.then Boxing Day DD and partner and his DD are coming here.
Only thing I’m concerned about is on Christmas Day I hope the neighbour isn’t there when my DD is there as she won’t stay long if she is..she doesn’t like her. And she doesn’t know the daughter is there as well ,or that they are having lunch together . She thinks she takes money off my dad . So I hope all goes well.if I tell my DD the neighbour will be there she won’t go
I think I’ll just hope for the best!
My dad can’t eat much only mashed liquidised things and wet not dry.
Anyway my dad sounded quite strong tonite when I spoke to Jim
    Chris

    • Chris dear just remember you’re as old as you feel…oh dear…that old. SO much for old sayings. Have a good one and sharing an early Christmas with all the family sounds lovely. It’s the being together that matter isn’t it. Glad your Dad sounded stronger today. You have so much interesting connections with DD, neighbor, etc. Hope all goes swimmingly. Love,, Sue

  38. Good Morning Peeps !
Chris, Happy Birthday !! I hope you have a wonderful day and many more of them. Hopefully you feel a bit younger today.
Jennie, glad you are getting on better , and you Sue as well. I am so lazy this morning, but have a busy day ahead so must be up and getting ready for church.
My Frenchman called me on Friday morning. Said the board told him that they had more important things to worry about right now instead of his retirement ! But, we anvil on huh ?
My brother , his wife and granddaughter came up and we all had early Christmas with them. It was nice. Then rehearsal last eve for the program tonight. Today, church and then tonight the program. All the kids are singing or doing something in it, so cute. Little hams with a microphone. But there are some good voices in there. I will have to come home and rest up. Seems like this time of year I am on a speeding locomotive with no brakes until Christmas. Then BAM !!! It stops all at once.
I hope everyone has a wonderful day. It is still very cold here, but on Christmas it is to be around 70 !! Unreal, but I am loving it. I am sure we will pay up come February
    Love to all
    Tonie

    • HI TONIE………..I AM GLAD YOU HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CHAT TO YOUR GUY, WHAT DO HIS EMPLOYERS MEAN OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE? IS IT THEY CAN’T BE BOTHERED SORTING HIS RETIREMENT PAPERS OUT?? OH I BET YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ALL THE KIDS DOING THEIR SINGING. YES I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT, WE WILL CERTAINLY PAY FOR THIS WARM SPELL SO MANY OF US ARE HAVING….BIG TIME!!!
DON’T FORGET TO TAKE SOME REST INBETWEEN ALL THIS ACTIVITY……LOVE YA….JENNIE X

    • Tonie, I must say I am jealous of your fine weather. Hope the whole winter is mild for you. Still crazy, muddy, wet out here. Pray for so many Oregonians who are in a bad way…please. Sweet girl, I know you’re disappointed to hear your friends negative news about the retirement board but also know he will keep beating down their door. Now as far as your note about anvils…do you mean Advil or it that just an old Southern expression?
Glad you got together with your brother and SIL. Saw the pics on FB. You all looked very happy. Much to do for so many of us this week. Laundry, housework and intend to work the grands on Tuesday. Beth suggested I have them set the Christmas table…just might. Fun to get out the Royal Albert roses dishes and red tall glasses…it all looks so pretty. Please take out some time to be good to yourself, okay…for my sake if not your own. Love you, Sue

      • Sue
Anvil on is just an old expression. I guess it means hammerin on thru. Yeah he will keep on u till he gets an answer he wants. Patience is hard sometimes. Trying to do good things for me. This back nerve thing is killing me. If I stand up for a bit I can hardly walk. So trying to do my stretches and be good but it is hard to. Swimming tomorrow I hope. You have lovely time with your kids. I know how much you enjoy them
        Love ya
        Tonie

  39. Hi all
Hopefully the next phone call will be more positive Tonie and he will have found out more .hope the church services went, well and all enjoyed them
    Jen
Ive heard of the potato thing
Yep i enjoyed the day back to my diet now as I can easily eat and eat. Went for a drive around after lunch the weather was so warm and sunny
Back home tomorrow and it looks set dry for us to pack up and go back
    Chris

    • Chris, gld you got to eat for your birthday and sounds like it was a good one. Forget the diet until after the holidays…what do you think? Funny how just a simple night out can make you both feel better and younger, somehow. Sounds like you are having some of Jen’s weather and none of ours. Hope you’re getting some sleep these nights. How’s the headache doing? Love, Sue

  40. Sue
Headache comes and goes but I’ve got this heaviness and sick feeling back when I come off the amytrip.
And noises in my ears.but Dr said I had an eardrum swollen so am doing steam for that.
Mite take another half tomorrow night .see what ECG is like .
Well won’t eat so much for next few days that’s better than a strict diet
It’s gone midnite here so gonna try and sleep Chris

    • Chris, sounds like a good idea to continue on the med. What is the deal with the eardrum? Have you ever had to have tubes put in to drain the eardrum? Relieves the pressure immediately and helps it to heal. I used to hold down little kids to have it done and always felt better afterward…they were just scared. Sleep tight…

  41. I don’t know what’s causing the eardrum to swell the Dr said catarrh but ive no catarrh! ..but I’ve had hissing noises for months .giddy and heavy headed..like being carsick ,nope no ones suggested tubes to drain . Have to see her again I think .
    Chris

  42. Hey guys ! Jennie the board will not look into his retirement right now. So it is the waiting game and he will have to go to teach in Jan. And with the threat of killing teachers from ISIS it is worrisome. But just have to have faith and know there is a plan
The service was good tonight. The kids were all good and sang so sweet. They are good on hearing and staying in tune. There is hope there. Devin sang very good I am very tired but can’t sleep. Dev is staying the night with me.
Gonna try to sleep now. A lot to do tomorrow.
    Love to all
    Tonie

  43. Tonie, no dear. Even with my deep Southern roots have never heard that anvil statement. Makes sense, however. Hammer away. I know how upset you must be over your new friend possibly being stuck in France. That situation with the retirement board/school board really is a bad one. He must be equally frustrated. Prayers that you two will be together sooner rather than later in the new year.
I know you and know you are doing too much of everything…baking, cooking, etc. Do promise me you’ll think of yourself now and do only what you prioritize as being the most important.
Went to dentist today. New crown defective so won’t get it until next week so had cavity filled instead. Recovering now. Life,,,,Love, Sue
