So often over the many years I’ve been sharing my life with all of you and others who live with chronic pain, I have been told me not to give up. Okey, dokey, I guess I won’t give up because I haven’t a clue how to do that.
Like so many other expressions, it is one of those polite but senseless things that is said which doesn’t have any logic behind it. What would I do if, indeed, I wanted to give up? Would I get out the kitchen knives and teach myself how to juggle? Would I blindfold myself and take a walk on the freeway? Would I do some other heinous act upon myself? Nope. None of those appeal to my sense of order and preservation and the credo I have to keep my blood inside my body whenever possible. It may not be healthy, wonderful blood, any more than this old body is all that charming but there you have it. It is the only body I have to work with.
There is this somewhat irrational reaction those of us have who suffer chronic pain. It is simply this little voice inside our heads that says, “I can’t take anymore and that’s it.” So what is “it?” I’m afraid that word differs with each of us but is similar in that it is frustrating, painful and often beyond what we believe to be are the limits of our endurance. What are some less gruesome ideas?
We could travel but the body goes with. We could change our appearance but there again, same old carcass. We could change our names, our spouses or our addresses but alas, same old physical problems and body. A trench coat, dark glasses and a hat won’t do. Wigs or facelifts don’t help either. Let’s face it my friends, we cannot hide from ourselves. Oh, if only we could I’d be lying on a Bermuda beach, wearing a bikini right now. Oh, now, there’s a thought.
We are already doing all we can do, such as going to the best doctors we can find and/or afford. We take our medications, treatments and try to behave…well, usually. We try to eat the correct food, even giving up some of our favorites because we read they are “nasty” for us. We exercise as much as our willpower and our bodies allow. We give up those habits which are considered forbidden such as cavorting, smoking and drinking intoxicating substances. We do try. Dear Lord, how we try. What else can we do when we are tempted to give up?
I am not the font of wisdom so all I can share with you is what I do when these thoughts run rampant in my life and mind. Let me share the following three thoughts with you.
1. I seek spiritual help and this involves other parts of the anatomy such as my mind and heart, if that is where the soul is indeed located. I start by being honest with God. I am not always polite in my conversations with God and believe He understands. He understands the anguish that often lives within my pain, day after endless day. If He is omniscient, then He already knows my concerns and I am just being repetitive with a bit of added color and drama. Okay, so am I not allowed to get carried away at times? I know each of you understand. My plaintive pleas always bring me peace and eventually, answers. Those answers may not come quickly but they always arrive in a specific form as a new friend, a new doctor, a new medication or a burst of strength that can only come from a spiritual, universal source.
2. I get out of myself. This might mean a trip to the river, the store or just a drive. I have to steel myself against the inertia that can fill a life of chronic pain and cause each of us who suffer to turn inward. This usually involves skipping a shower, wearing night clothes all day and shuffling around a dirty, cluttered home. The last one is only possible if we can get out of bed or off the couch. If we can’t then we have to bring the world in by reading or watching an uplifting film or calling a friend and doing all we can to get out of that bed. Instead of lying there you and I can open a window, make it to the front porch, etc. None of these non-actions are healthy, life building or uplifting. I have found there is power and health in reaching out, getting out and cleaning up. If I try to be my best, which isn’t saying much on some days, it involves effort. Effort is still accomplishment. Many times any accomplishment can be fulfilling and purposeful. We need purpose when our usual means of finding productivity is interrupted or taken from our lives due to pain and illness. Yes, like you I know what it is to be unable to work at a job I was trained to do and loved, have my social life take a nose dive or lose half of our family income. It can take a long time to reach acceptance of change we did not choose but that doesn’t mean it is not possible. If life is stuck, delayed or bitter, then it is a life that is being wasted. Remember what I have often written, “Tick, Tock,” that is the sound of your life as time passes. Time is life and life is precious.
3. The last coping skill I want to talk about today is using humor. Life is funny. It is hilarious if you have eyes to see it. Facebook can be full of many lies, paranoid fantasies and news but it is also filled with humor. Take advantage of it, each day. It feels good to laugh and feeling good is our goal. Turn off the news, it’s repetitive every hour anyway, and turn on something that will help you feel uplifted or makes you laugh. I have noticed how violent the cross section of life one can see at the video store. My goodness, is that really a reflection of life, all that blood and maiming? I hope not. I feel maimed enough, thank you. I thought it would be fun to take an old joke and look at it from the perspective of those of us who live with chronic pain. I have noticed that many of you who read the blog or join me on FB are bound to me by humor. I think it works, so let’s do the old joke bit.
WHY DID THE ROOSTER CROSS THE ROAD?
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To exercise.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To get out of the house.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To get to a chicken, of course.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To pick up his medications at the corner drugstore.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To make it to his doctor’s appointment.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To kick the doctor in the shins.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To buy a new robe and bunny slippers.
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To buy a new comb…
Why did the rooster cross the road?
To get away from me…
Get the idea? Just have fun in any way you can as long as it is legal and moral. There is no positive side for you with either of those.
Good morning !
Sitting on my wonderful porch this am taking my time getting going ! We had a busy day yesterday and I am feeling it, I am afraid. Everyday brings me closer to parting again and I don’t want to miss a moment, it will go too fast and drag by until he returns.
Wonderful blog Sue ! And by the way, if anyone wants the rooster in the pic, I am giving him away. He wants to do nothing more than attack the hens and have his way with them. Too aggressive !
I too have the first on the list for my sanity and souls sake. I must rely on my spiritual side to help me through this thing called life. It ain’t for the faint of heart for sure. As for the 2nd. I have made plans to attend a horse event an hour or so away in Aug, another clinic in Oct, and hopefully a day or two at the beach in Sept. I know I need to get out more, not just work and home. So what if I go alone, I am not a person to meet strangers. I want to go see the Mustangs in Aug, and Buck Branaman in Oct. He was the man who helped on the Horse Whisperer. He can do amazing things with horses, and has a wonderful story of his own.
I think sometimes we have to crawl across the road but even on that crawl we may encounter something worthwhile. Life is for living, it is not a spectator sport.
Love to all
Tonie
Tonie, So Romeo lives up to his name, does he? I know this time is precious to you and I hope you are able to get out a bit to see the things you want to see. Sounds like your FM would enjoy both of those activities, also. I know he has to leave for awhile and how saddened he must be about his country, especially right now. We are at such a sad time in the whole world, it would be good to have each other right now and in the future. You know my concerns and how much I love ya lady. Hang in there.
Yes dear, we do a great crawl don’t we? Love you much, Sue

Sue, ya’all please pray for all the people in France. I cannot imagine what they are going through. FM says he cannot think much on it because he is afraid of his hatred of the deeds of the few turning into hatred for all the Muslims. He has students in his classes that are Muslim and he has to be very careful what he says and does, choosing his words. He is angry , of course, but not dwelling on it. Concerned over the amount of security he must go through to get back. They were supposed to let it down, but not now. He says every plane change he has to go through customs and be searched, his luggage opened, etc.
just pray is all we can do. And maybe our country will open their eyes as to what can happen.
Love ya
Tonie
Oh as usual this is very timely. It has been a more than normally difficult week here. Nessie isn’t doing well with the paw issues. She was bitten by a wolf spider at some point last winter they do have venom and toxic reaction plus infection happens. Usually this is with cats not dogs but you know nothing about my life is normal. Her issues with allergies exacerbated the problem. Our next option (vet and I will make a decision next week) would be cyclosporin. It’s a risk vs benefit issue as she has a chronic infection of the tissues. Trying to carry a 65# resistive dog (she wants to take care of me of course) was an adventure. Tripping over her in the middle of the night just added to our fun. Swelling in a double chin was lovely and my knees look like a 10 year old kids from the bruises. Nessie appears to have done better in the collision than I did. I admit that with her issues and the added fall injuries on top of seeing a provider that seriously would not physically touch me well I was very down. My regular primary provider actually called me Thursday after her MA talked to her about the less than inspiring day working for the full in. I’m lucky I know good assessment skills and could honestly tell her I would be fine, nothing needing evaluation and my concerns ‘re the other Dr. I worry about the patients that couldn’t speak up. I’m still not ready to throw in the towel but I did a pj day yesterday (healing and rest day) today I had breakfast out with dad and friends than sang with the choir for a memorial mass.
BSL you are as bad as I am tripping over dogs and and bruising up. Take care of them and I know you know how, I feel for Nessie. I have an aging Dachshund who has issues with his lungs, really congested and antibiotics are not helping. Thought it was kennel cough, but evidentially not since the other dog has my gotten it.
I hate to think they will go one day. It is amazing how much we love these little fur faces.
Take care
Tonie
Laura, I’ve been following your travails on FB and am glad Nessie is a bit better. SO sorry when I read about your fall and I think it is to be expected you are still sore what with your arthritis and all the meds in your system. All you needed was an unfeeling caregiver MD. I believe in speaking up…big surprise there…and agree we who have big mouths are required to use them. Maybe it got passed on and maybe not but the truth is out there. Hope you get over the bruises and sore spots soon and get some form of emotional boost. I know how worried you’ve been over Nessie and pray for you to have strength and her, years to go. Much love, Sue
Dear Sue, Enjoyed the blog. I find that humor is absolutely necessary. Without laughter I don’t think I could stay sane. Love you guys, take care and know that positive thoughts and prayers are coming your way everyday. Janet
Janet, how very true. I have read that the exceptionally intelligent and the most well adjusted in life use their sense of humor. Life is too important to be taken too seriously plus, it just doesn’t feel good. I hope life is going well for you and you are finding joy each day in some large or small way. Love, Sue
Hi all
Short note
Got a lot done yesterday
Unpacked 50 boxes
DD came again and did loads and made food and drinks and unpacked and kept me in order!
Had fish and chips in conservatory first night ..bad I know haven’t had them for 15 yrs
But found that the toilets were not nice..so DH is tackling them today
My ibs comes and goes not too good at moment..my hip is not too bad
Weather has been so good to us and is shining out there now
The lady who bought our house rang me yesterday to say how happy she was with our house ..I thought that was nice
Going to have toast outside for b.fast it is sunny
Read blog Sue will comment another time.but as usual a good one
Love to all chris
I will comment too……not too good right now….happy weekend…much love …Jennie x
Jennie, gentle hugs and prayers for you to be better soon. Is the weather helping or hurting right now. I know you’re under a lot of stress and pray that lets up soon. Much love, Sue
Chris, so glad you’re in the house and hope you are loving it. Sorry to hear about the toilets. It’s amazing how some folks are about these things when others are so immaculate and thorough, like you. Hope they are fixed soon and not expensive. Four days after we moved in here I ran a load of laundry in the basement and the water pumped out onto the floor and out the door into the street. Costs us thousands of dollars. We finally got a lawyer to call the former owners with a threat and they came up with half. People! So pleased DD was such a wonderful help to you but not at all surprised. Daughters are wonderful, aren’t they?
Take it easy on yourself. I love fish and chips and we have a lot of it up here. There is an old fishing boat some folks converted and serve take out of fish (tuna) and chips and the line is about twenty deep all day on the weekends when the tourists are here. We have old friends from CA coming out for the day tomorrow. Will be nice to see them and have a day of it. Hope I hold up.
Thinking of you. FIfty boxes! Wow. Love, Sue
Good morning all
On my third cup of coffee. My back is back to the same. So I must call and make another appointment . But I think this time I will go to the orthopod and get his opinion, THEN to the pain doc. Soon as the steroids stopped, the pain returned. Ah well, such is life.
Must teach class for the next three Sunday’s. Our minister is stepping down end of the month. She had breast cancer and has not recovered so well. Chemo brain, and she came back too soon. So that will be sad, then FM leaves the 3rd…….gonna be a rough end to July. But it must be done. My end of the bargain is to keep busy and get out and socialize more, I had to promise.. He knows how I isolate myself. It will help me that I promised, I try to keep them.
Chris, so glad you are in your house. How was the new mattress ? Jennie, prays love.
Well, must get ready for church.
Love to all
Tonie
Tonie, sorry to hear your minister is leaving. I hope her cancer has not returned and it is the other things, such as the hard treatment. I think of both you and your FM often and know it will be difficult for both of you to part but in many ways so difficult for him to go back to his home and all the changes. We have plenty of heartache here lately with the policemen all over the country. Our finest getting mowed down in such a terrible way. Rats about your back. So sorry to hear that it is painful again.
You said your end of the bargain was to get out more…what was on his end? I pray for both of you, much love, Sue
Sue
His end is to take care of himself and get back quickly ! No, Faye has just too much on her nothing with return of the cancer. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers
Hope all ok shorty again exhausted.we had a similar thing but not on your grand scale.the. Waste was blocked and it all went into the cupboard I just filled up ,all got saturatef so now all is drying out and we’ve poured stuff down drain to clear .terrible thing for you sue
I wonder do you have that saying ….all fur coat and no knickers…well that’s this lady’s house
Gotta go got to be up 7 pm got a delivery DH computer coming and gotta get an inr appt for him he’s bleeding and bruising easy
Jen hope you ok over w.end
Chris
Chris, no, we don’t have that phrase but some that are similar. I get the picture. I hope it hasn’t dampened your love for the house. Sorry to about DH. I can see your reason for concern and hope you get in to see the doc tomorrow. SO much going on for you. Hang on and try to enjoy the good bits. Love, Sue
Tonie, Sounds like a good bargain for both of you. Hope your back is feeling okay tonight. Be interesting to see what the orthopod. has to say. Take care dear friend. Busy couple of days for us but mentally felt good wish body agreed. Just gave George a bath and Jim bathed my car. No complaints from car. Later, have fun, Sue

Good morning all
Having my last cup of coffee before I go to swim. Listening to the Fm practice his guitar ! He is so funny. He gets something in mind and he is determined to do it. He is a 2nd degree black belt in karate, he paints, and he wants to resume guitar lessons from 45 years ago. He remembers the chords though ! I am giving him my guitar to take back, I can’t play it anymore, just the bass.
Jennie, so happy your FM came to see you, and about the realtor. I was picturing your dh in my mind as Mr Bean ! I loved that show ! So much like real life right ? Chris, what is a conservatory ? Like a sunroom?
Anyway, we hope to continue down the road after workout and go to find Fairystones. Lyn, hope you are surviving this hot weather. My poor Brutus is in bad shape, his breathing is bad and still with the mucus. I do believe it is heart disease or lung . He is almost 10, but his appetite is still good and he pushes hard. Gave. Him more antibiotics yesterday, …..
Well, got to go get ready.
Love to all
Tonie
TONIE……YES IT WAS NICE TO BE ABLE TO TALK TO OUR FM, SUCH A NICE PERSON AND PROVIDED US WITH A LOT OF HISTORY OF PLACES WE VISITED PREVIOUSLY.
SO YOUR FM IS OFF WITH YOUR GUITAR, HE WILL GET A LOT OF ENJOYMENT FROM IT, I COME FROM A MUSICAL FAMILY, NIKKI PLAYS GUITAR AND BONGO’S, MY SON PLAYS DRUMS, MY MOM PLAYED THE PIANO, MY DH CAN PLAY HARMONICA…..I WAS A SINGER.
IN CASE CHRIS HASN’T TIME TO EXPLAIN, A CONSERVATORY IS INDEED A SUN ROOM/ORANGERY….A NICE PLACE TO SIT IN THE WINTER IF HEATED……WE ENGLSH LOVE THEM.
MY DH IS BETTER LOOKING THAN MR BEAN, BUT JUST AS FUNNY WHEN HE GETS GOING.
MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR PRECIOUS TIME TOGETHER WITH YOUR FM SWEETPEA.

Good morning all
Chris and Jen, no air conditioners ? I have not used mine much this year although it has been right hot in the last two days. And Saturday here in the 90’s. Which is extremely hot for here.
Got my new computer, not sure if I like it yet. It will not let me set up my downloads of programs, so I have to call tech support sometime. Ugh tells me it is not normally downloaded
Fm and I had a good day yesterday. We found some good Fairystones and had lunch at a little diner. Very nice.
I am running late. Hope all is well with all
Love Tonie
Ps. Chris, Jen, I want a solarium also !
HI TONIE……WHY NOT A SOLARIUM?? WHAT ARE FAIRYSTONES?
WE DON’T HAVE AIR CONDITIONERS HERE OR UK BECAUSE WE DON’T NORMALLY GET ENOUGH HOT WEATHER, OUR PART OF EUROPE IS A WEE BIT COOLER, HOWEVER, WHEN I LIVED IN SPAIN, WE HAD TO HAVE THEM IN EVERY ROOM…..PLUS A POOL, OR THE HEAT WOULD HAVE SENT YOU NUTS.
TODAY REACHED 99C……WHEW! THE POOR DOG IS WHACKED, THINK A COOL BATH IS IN ORDER.
JEN XX
Jen, a solarium is in my plans for the future, as it is for FM. He was talking about it before I was to tell him ! Fairystones are Quartz and iron that come together to make these lovely crosses. They are so cute. The legend is the Indian chief those mountains heard of Jesus crucifixion and told the fairies in the wood, they cried and their tears turned into the crosses, thus….Fairystone Park.
Here in the mtns, we never had AC growing up, but I am very happy for it now. It was 90 here today.
Stay cool I am going in for some ice cream
Hi
All
Suzanne you look after yourself .hope you get better real soon and back here
Tonie
Fairy stones ? Sounds like the day we would like
Sorry folks really tired and I wilt anyway in this 90 odd degree heat
Back when brighte
X
Dear friends, Sorry I was absent yesterday but was out having a ball all day and evening with some old friends from Calif. It was a joy to show them around and share our lovely area we call home, as well as our actual home. Needless to say I had a bad night and am shot today but it was worth it. We don’t get all that much company because we are so far away from most of our family and old friends. My eyes have been very troublesome all morning. I think it’s the fact I was out in the wind and near the sea yesterday and didn’t apply eye drops. It could also be the Lyrica…we will have to see. I must share with you that the Lyrica has allowed me to walk more securely due to the numbness in my feet and ankles but has done nothing for my sitter and back. I don’t feel overly medicated with it but have been sleeping better. Again…time will tell. I’m now on the lowest dose possible and am not sure about turning up the amount next week as I have been advised.
I’ve read all the recent and past comments and am so stressed by some and thrilled by others. It’s wonderful to have you all in my life on a regular basis and love to hear from some of you who pop in occasionally.
Jen, How awful you are suffering so much from the heat. Boy, what swings of weather for you this summer. You definitely need that fan. Sometimes when we have a rare hot night and our little room sized air cond. doesn’t work, I put a wet towel over me and also George. He loves them. How very tragic the accident with Tim’s friend. What a courageous young man he must be and such a sweet loving fiance. Prayers for that dear fellow. I hope Tim and Claire are doing well. Jen, you know you are in my prayers as you face a crisis at this time and want and need to get back home. I know you will sell your house. It does sound better from the realtor’s remarks. I also hate to see you have to leave your adopted country and lovely home and garden. I know the future looks dark but truly I believe, it will get light when you need it to be. Hugs for you.
Chris, so you’re moved in and got to sleep in a cooler bedroom on a new mattress during your heatwave. I know you probably still have much to get settled. Just do what your body will allow even though I know your mind is urging you to do more. Your solarium sounds lovely and I certainly knew what one is. My sister used to have one at her home. Good thing to have a heater access in yours. Hope the toilets are all straightened out now. Be sure you give GS and his girl a job to do while they’re there. Thinking of you and would love to see your new home. It will feel like your own very soon.
Jo, so good to hear from you. Glad you liked the blog. Sorry you are having trouble and so many concerns about your Mom’s care. I know how difficult that trip to Chicago will be in Aug. and am so sorry you have to do it but can see why. Glad your brother is reliable. Of course, when a person like that acts up so much you have other scary thoughts. Is she from an agency? Can you go through them from home? Can you get her replaced? Just don’t give her any warning to get up to any mischief. You don’t often let us know how you are doing. Hope you are surviving your very summer and able to go about your daily life. Think of you often.
Tonie, I know. The time is short. So his end of the bargain is to stay safe and get back to you as quickly as possible. Sounds fair. Your pics of your new porch look good. You’re already enjoying it, I know. My friend who was here yesterday took a lot of pictures and I’ll share them when she posts them on FB. She and I go all the way back to HS and have kept in touch rarely but it’s like we never parted when we see each other. She is the friend who helped us so much with Jim’s Mom five years ago.I discovered quite by chance she lived in the same city as Lolly… She is also a retired nurse and was a great help in getting help for Lolly when we needed it for her. .I am so sorry to hear about pup dog. I hate it when this time comes for us and them. Perhaps it is something that can be treated. Let me know, okay? Did you find a new home for Romeo, our cover boy on this blog? There must be some lonely chickens in that area. Later dear girl.
Janet, always appreciate you popping in. I know how hard it can be on your hands and appreciate any and all visits.
Well, all, I’ve gone on long enough and can’t see the screen that well. Must rest my eyes. Think of each of you each day. We’re in clouds and sunshine here and it remains cool. It was in the 60’s yesterday. Still need to go water plants in pots due to the intense wind that the ocean always send in to us. Love to each and all…Sue P.S. I had Ratatouille for dinner last night, had never had it before. I discovered I’ve been making it for years calling it sauteed vegies in olive oil. Duh.
Sue, sorry you were feeling the effects, but know you wouldn’t have done any differently. So glad you were able to have a good visit! Fingers crossed with the Lyrica!
Sue, I must concur with everyone else. Another good one.
Chris, sorry for your water closet woes. Hopefully all is set aright now. How nice of the new owner of your old house to share how much she is enjoying her new home. A conservatory that can be used year round, that does sound nice!
Jennie, we’ve touched base re: Messenger. Good hearing from you!
Tonie, I’m doing ok. The heat and humidity have been rather unpleasant, and my RA has not been appreciating it, but I’m weathering. There is a lot going on right now which doesn’t help. Enjoy your time with FM until he has to head back. I, like everyone else, am so saddened by what all has been going on in his country as well as ours. It is not a good time in our world right now.
Jo, good to hear from you. 🙂
Hello, Janet!
Bobsled, we’ve been in touch via FB. Good to see you on here as well. Please take care of yourself and dear Nessie.
Blessings, everyone!
Lyn, Pleased you liked the blog. Cute new pic of you on FB. You are so young looking…or maybe just young at heart and it shows. You sound busy in spite of the heat and it does look hot back there. Cool here with occasional clouds threatening sprinkles. Looks like the rest of this country is also sweltering. I hate that.
Hope all are well at home including, of course, the kitties and Sadie. Yes, dear, I think we all agree there is much sadness in the world right now and it’s all frightening. It’s definitely a time for both grieving and faith. Such emotion can be seen reflected in all the political conflict.
So far so good for me with the low dose Lyrica. Not sure I will advance the dose as my eyes want to sleep and I don’t like that. I do have less neuropathy pain and a bit more energy probably from sleeping better. How is the day to day trek going for you? Love you, Sue
GOOD MORNING TO ALL…….WOW IT WAS A SCORCHER LAST NIGHT, HAD TO LAY ON TOP OF THE BEDS, COULDN’T SEEM TO GET COOL……SACHA LAY OUT ON THE FRONT PORCH ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT, THAT’S A FIRST….WE HIT THE 100C IN THE AFTERNOON, QUITE UNUSUAL FOR HERE AFTER THE DODGY START WE HAD WHICH EXCLUDED THE SPRING.

Thanks Jo…..I love you too xxx
It can, Jennie, but then so can so many other things. You know how it goes.
Jen, oh my you are in the midst of a scorcher. I know how miserable that is when you can’t sleep and poor Sacha. Sorry to hear about the kids being ill. It is interesting how some of those viruses revisit or never leave. Hope they’re enjoying all of the business with the redoing of the houses. What a lot of work for them. Does Claire get involved too? Yes, what a kind and very sweet son you have. Not all are that way so you did a good job sweet friend.
Sorry I haven’t had a chance to get back to your PM but you know you have my thoughts and prayers for Saturday. May they be the ones to buy your house. What a bother and worry you’ve had of late.
Yes, I’ve been getting out. Jim and I rested the day after we had company and then went to Costco yesterday. We shopped when we were hungry which is never a good idea so we overdid it. We will eat well for the next month. The only problem with that kind of warehouse shopping is that Jim ends up carrying these heavy loads.
I know that hideous heat can really take it out of you and hope you’re getting in some rest during the day. Some of our western states are in such dire drought it’s awful. Here in OR we have plenty of water. Stay safe and know we’re all with you on Sat. Love, Sue
Good morning all
Another hot day in store, but not in the ice box house ! I am drinking more coffee. Just gave Ms Alice her shower. I told her now she knows what it was like to be aristocracy in Victorian times. Having someone bathe, dress and fix your hair. She gets embarrassed sometimes, I know she does.
Have a good day all
Love
Tonie
Tonie, that is a difficult job you have there with Ms. Alice. I know how loving and kind you are and know she appreciates everything you do. How is she physically these days?
This whole growing old can be so miserable and all many of us pray for is grace to handle all we’re given.
Hope things at home are going well for this final stretch with your FM. I think about you so often and feel your heartache on parting. I know you have deep faith and trust the future and it will somehow work out, perhaps in a way we cannot foresee.
Quiet here today. I’m going to tackle a house project I’ve been putting off but fortunately I have reached the profound conclusion I don’t have to these project in one day or even one week. Hope to get started on sitting or standing and sanding the posts on our indoor stairway. Jim and I both clutch them to be safe going down stairs so the paint wears off of them quickly. Bought sandpaper and tacky cloths so here we go. Hope you’re not to worn out tonight. Bet you’ll go home to a good dinner waiting for you or a beautiful salad. We’re having corned beef tonight so must go to the store and get a head of cabbage. Corned beef without cabbage? Never. Love you gal, Sue
Sue
Ms Alice is getting more and more feeble in her movements. Some days she can walk from her room to the sunroom and others I must push her in her walker. She has never been one to move unless she had to so I take it as a life’s lesson to move as much as I can for as long as I can. I don’t want to be like that. Nor do any of us. I wasn’t real hungry yesterday and had no lunch, and wasn’t up to supper I thought. He made a beautiful little salad for us each and I made an omelet. Between talking and eating I found I was hungry . I told him we may need a larger refrigerator, and definitely a bigger kitchen if we were both cooking ! So much fresh food my fridge is overflowing.
I am very tired and stiff today but it is swim day, and then we have to go,shop for meat for a cookout he wants to do tomorrow for us, my brother and Judy, he has repaired and fixed everything he sees around, and now is looking at making me a way to put a temporary wind break up on the porch when it gets cold.
I am so glad you had a good time with your friends. I wish we wer a little closer so we could spend some time together. I told FM, my best friends I have never met face to face.
Well, more coffee and need to get that man moving, he is slow to get ready in the morning.
Love to you
Tonie
HELLO……..GOT VIEWERS COMING TO LOOK AT THE HOUSE ON SATURDAY….WISH US LUCK.
FOUR FRIENDS CAME OVER THIS AFTERNOON, SPENT THE TIME TELLING DREADFUL JOKES AND EATING CHEESECAKE IN THE SUNSHINE, WHAT A TONIC.
HOPE YOU ARE ALL OK, …….TONIE, YOU ARE SO SWEET TO MISS ALICE, WILL YOU BE MY CARER WHEN I AM OLD AND FEEBLE??
CHRIS …..YOU OK?
SUE…YOU MANAGING TO GET OUT AT ALL?
JO….HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME, AND WILL APPRECIATE BEING IN THE COOL.
GOD BLESS
JENNIE XX
Hi Jen, sent you a FB comment…Sue
Hi all

Sue glad you got out and with friends it sounded so good for you
Jen
Good luck with viewers..it just needs that one
Things going wrong and lots to fix and do and blimmin clean
My hip is not too bad
Love Chris
Still haven’t read blog properly ! I go to sleep as soon as in bed!
Pace yourself, Chris. And get plenty of rest.
Sue, I am happy to hear you talking about and taking on your post project. You are sounding better and I’m sure that makes us all so happy, you most of all, I’m sure. You know, the Lyrica may be totally worth it simply for the benefits you have already gained. You know your body, and I know you will listen to it.
Tonie, I feel for Miss Alice and am so thankful she has you. Enjoy your coffee in the ice house. 😉 And most certainly enjoy your time with FM. 🙂
Jennie, hurray! For the showing, not the weather. It is hot and humid here, but not quite to 100. The next several days will be in the 90’s here, some near 100, which is probably on par for this time of our summer. Won’t be all that fun, though. Thankfully, since we do experience this kind of weather as a norm, most places are air conditioned. My home will always be. 🙂
I’m not sure how often I will be hopping on here the next several days. I’m about to enter that week I do each year singing in the Festival Chorus in the Festival Series (3 weeks) that takes place at a lovely performing venue located on a college campus about an hour and 40 minutes from our home. The festival is 3 weeks, but the chorus only participates in 1 week. Usually they pull in soloists for 1 or both of the other weeks, and often our week as well. This year we are doing a concert version of La Traviata. DD and I just did this a couple or so years ago so no new music to learn! Woohoo! Well, she had to learn a new part, but made much easier since she’s already sung it. Easier for me this time, actually, since last time I did the chorus parts and also performed the part of Annina. I only have to sing the choral parts this time round. Tomorrow we have choral rehearsal 10 – 4. Long day. Monday we rehearse with the conductor, then 2 days with everyone (orchestra and soloists), concert Thursday. By Thursday evening or Friday I’m usually beat. Anyhoo, with all of that, I may be resting as much as possible. Thankfully after tomorrow, the rehearsals are 3 hour blocks rather than all day. But enough of that. All in the household are fine. Kitty Lily had something going on a little over a week ago, and we thought she may be having a reprise again this week, but she didn’t. Whew. Sue mentioned a pic from FB above. I’m having a little summer fun, decided to get a splash of dark bright pink highlights added to my hair. I love it. Subtle, but fun! Hey, why not?
Have a great weekend, all! Stay nice and cool!
Lyn, your concert schedule sounds grueling but fulfilling…you know what I mean. Sounds also very beautiful. Glad your load sounds a bit lighter this year and so pleased you’re blessed with not only your talent but a talented daughter as well. Welcome here of course, whenever you get a few free mins. to rest and read.
Yes, the Lyrica is helping the neuropathy and my overall energy level but unfortunately not doing a thing for my back. I’m supposed to increase it to 50 mg. next week but not so sure because of the blurry vision it causes me. Bit concerned about that and the cost. I’ve noticed it having some affect on my memory just a bit. I’ve been able to feel up to making more of an effort with Jim retired and we’ve been able to get out more…Jim and I and my trusty pillows. Have a good week and do take care. Love, Sue
Hi all
In bed eating chocolate !
Had icecream tonite ..oh dear …
Comp man came today to do dH computer and alarm man to explain the system to me so I can use it.filled in forms for damaged stuff on moving and a Gardner came today again to mow and clip.amd had to,go,to return some things.then got some more soft sheets . Tonie you mentioned thread count these I bought were Egyptian cotton and only 200 thread but there is a really soft one for 400 count…..but they would need a lot of ironing so they were out..she said they will get softer on washing..so that’s good
Tomorrow I start cleaning room by room..best way I think .get it organised in my head.yesterday a plumber came to fix new clever toilet seats that slow down on closing ..feel better with clean ones.the others were …yuk. Even after steam cleaning twice and hand done
Hi Sue
Just read blog and it does seem to,fit all of us at the moment so well.
Oh yes..done that lot …not showered or changed ,sometimes it feels good like this is what I’m doing..but. As you say you don’t accomplish anything and the day seems empty somehow..I too find escapism in a book if I can’t get out it makes things seem easier
Praying ..for me I’m not sure on that one for myself..others but not for me
Well haven’t read all, posts tonite ..gonna clean my teeth now and maybe read then if I don’t drop off
Chris
Chris, good to catch up with your activities. You certainly are a busy lady. I prefer Egyptian cotton, also although we have so much cotton in this country. We use flannel sheets all year long here in the NW states. We have had only one hot day thus far and I think today I will water outside garden just because the small rain storms we’ve had don’t really soak the ground this time of year. Have to water the covered porch plants in front every day or two due to the winds.
I am sorry the previous owner did not have the same standards as you had with your previous home. Funny how some folks are just so inconsiderate of others. I’m with you on the new toilet seats. Well, I’m not actually with you but you know what I mean. Ha, Ha. Hope DH is feeling better after the round of antibiotics and enjoying the new house. It looks so very lovely. You’re so right. All you can do is one room at a time and then, what a feeling of accomplishment that is. It will soon feel,, smell and look like yours.
Overcast here today, didn’t get above the 60’s yesterday. Supposed to be hotter next week but I kind of like it this way and enjoy the cooler weather. Glad your new bedroom is cooler and sounds like the new mattresses are working out. That’s SO important for many of us to have night time comfort. Now, take it easy and please take those book breaks. Much love, Sue P.S. Just thought back to what a year you have had and just think…you survived.
Sue
You can have some of our heat !
SITTING HERE WAITING FOR VIEWERS, DON’T KNOW WHY I’M SO NERVOUS, DONE IT A THOUSAND TIMES BEFORE, GOT IT OFF TO A FINE ART, SO WHY DO I HAVE BUTERFLIES IN MY TUMMY???
BE BACK LATER…….JEN X
Jennie..keeping my fingers crossed and sent up a prayer. You’re nervous because you just want to sell so much and get back home. Understandable . The right people will come along. Love you…xxxxxxx
THANKS JO……SENT A PM TO YOU X
Jen
How’d it go
Chris
HI CHRIS……WELL ITS A BIT HARD TO TELL, THE GUY WAS YOUNG AND A BIT POKER FACED, HIS WIFE WAS EXPECTING, SO HE WAS LOOKING ON HER BEHALF, HE WANTED A FAMILY HOME, SO I THINK IT MET WITH ALL HIS REQUIREMENTS, BUT YOU CAN NEVER TELL……LAURA THE AGENT, DID AN EXCELLENT JOB THOUGH, AND WILL LET US KNOW IF THERE IS ANY INTEREST.
WE ARE LOOKING AT GROUND FLOOR GARDEN APARTMENTS ON THE ISLE OF WIGHT AT THE MOMENT, WE LOVE IT THERE, AND ITS A GOOD CONNECTION TO THE MAINLAND.
WELL ITS SUNDAY AND GOING TO HAVE A DAY OF REST, HIT THE BOTTLE LAST NIGHT, COULDN’T RESIST A BOTTLE OF CHLLED PINOT GRIS…….
HOW IS THE HIP, AND DH’S B/P AND BLISTERS?
XX
Tonie, Had a bit of trouble getting back to everyone yesterday. My modem for internet kept going out. May be time to get the cable company out to put in a new one. It’s about four year old…went out again this AM and had to unplug and replug it. Oh well.
Yes, since I’m a bit older than you I understand precisely what you are saying about Ms. Alice. Poor old thing. We must indeed keep moving as much as possible. I often see older folks sort of embracing invalidism and it makes me so sad. They and indeed we, should be fighting for every muscle and effort we can still make. I’m with you girl.
So, more delicious salads. If only Jim even knew what the ingredients in a salad were I’d be shocked. Bless him he is strictly a meat and potato man. He will eat some fresh berries and cantaloupe if they appear before him. He does pick out good potatoes at the store and also mushrooms. THey go “bad” so quickly because I always forget to use them. I finally got down to our basement the other day, the stairs are so steep, and went through our freezer and threw away so much and organized what we have there. Then we went to Costco and loaded it up. I feel better now being more organized. I can see what you mean about produce filling a refrig. Sounds like a new one would be nice. I was just looking at the paper this AM and noticed Sears had some and prices were terrible. So better start saving your spare change.
Hope it isn’t as hot back there as in so many parts of the country but suspect it is. We didn’t even get up to 70 degrees yesterday and it was sunny but cold wind. I did so enjoy going out to the ocean and showing our friends around. I was beat the next day and had to rest but the Lyrica has really helped some of my joints and numb feet. I don’t care for the blurred vision bit though. Are there any meds without side effects????NO< NO< NO. We have to pick and choose. Yes, dear, I so often wish you were closer also. Hope Judy is doing well and am curious how the cookout goes today. What is he barbecuing? I know there will be lots of food. Jealous here. Have a wonderful day and do be good to yourself. Love, Sue
Sue
Very hot here ! Running the AC which is unusual. He doesn’t, turns it off when I leave . Silly man. We gave the horses a bath last night and they were happy. He has shown me so much good things in the way to work with the horses. Monty Roberts and Buck Brannaman, great teachers of simple, gentle way to work with them. I hope to go see Buck in October, he will be teaching nearby in NC Baby is like a different horse.
Going to swim this morning and then McDonald’s and back home to see what needs to be done. Short time left. Sad, but he needs to go so he can come back. Just pray for his safe return trip. Terror alert is still high so much security to go through
Love ya
Sue
I love flannelette sheets.they are so cosy when it’s cool.i see they have got them In My favourite shop,I mite get some thiswinter..they are becoming trendy!
Well I cleaned all ttwo bathrooms ceiling to floor and all bits in between …then later I washed all the doors on the hallway.
Inbetween sitting with an ice bag on my hip….I think it mite be getting better without a steroid inj….have to see how it is as its a bit sorer tonight. Just sent Dh to get the ice bag!
You do sound uplifted Sue …I hope the eyesight thing settles on the lyrica ,then you could try the extra to see if it helps your back….the price tho sounds restrictive…
Well gonna read got DD and GS coming over tomorrow sometime
Weather still very warm but the bedroom is cool..oh it’s a yellow room.
Sat outside for most meals and tonight. I do love sitting out in the garden..didn’t feel like it In the last one
Hope all having a good weekend and tonie out and about
Chris
Chris, sounds like you got a lot accomplished. Sounding good and undoubtedly looking and feeling more like yours. Yes, here in the NW the nights are always cool with the river and ocean breezes and the sheets that are flannel just don’t pick up the cold and dampness. I am sorry your hip is acting up. Here’s hoping, huh? I’m sure you’ve been bending in many different and difficult positions with the cleaning. Take care and sleep well. Love, Sue
CHRIS….ME AGAIN, DIDN’T SEE YOUR LAST POST ABOUT YOUR HIP, I AGREE WITH SUE, YOU HAVE BEEN DOING TOO MUCH TOO SOON, SO NO WONDER ITS HURTING. THE VISIT FROM YOUR GS AND DD WILL HELP CHEER YOU UP MY FRIEND, SO ENJOY AND REST WHENEVER YOU GET THE CHANCE, THINGS WILL STILL BE THERE TOMORROW…..MUCH LOVE X
SUE…..SENT A PM…….TAKE CARE X
HAPPY SUNDAY TO EVERYONE, ENJOY WHOEVER YOU ARE WITH….XX
Good morning all
Must have been a busy Monday for all. Here, I went to swim and then for ice cream. Got stuck on the interstate for an hour coming home due to a wreck, but we had a good time talking.
We had some rain yesterday, yeah ! And some during night , very nice out now. Now I must get ready for work. Hopefully not a long day. Sue hope you are recovering and doing well. Maybe they can find another med to help you. I couldn’t take the Lyrica, made me sick. Chris, rest now and eat ice cream. Jennie, prayers for good news on your house. And all of you have a blessed day
Love
Tonie
Tonie, so glad it is cooling off for you. Sorry about getting stuck yesterday but it’s good you were together. I know how precious this time is for you both. More terror in France for your friend to feel anguish over. Sad old world right now. Pray some of the changes taking place will be for the good of all concerned.
Very nice here with a smattering of rain, clouds in a blue sky and some fog banks out along the coast. Guess what I did yesterday? Jim and I went for a walk on the beach with the grands and took George with us. His little three inch legs had a real workout. We carried him back to the car to give him a break. We had so much fun and I held up for it all. I had my doubts about walking in the dry sand but our beaches allow vehicles, not ours of course because Jim wouldn’t do that, so there were plenty of tire tracks to walk in. The Lyrica is helping me a great deal. I started on a very low dose and today went up to a higher dose. We will see how today and tomorrow go. I know, I had many doubts after what so many of you went through but so far so good. We also took the grands to a couple of local museums. One is a movie museum for all the movies made in Astoria and Oregon but it’s in an old jail and that part was the best part of all. They mostly featured Goonies because we get so many Goonies fans in town all the time. The poor family who bought the Goonies house had to cover all their windows because of all the fans. My favorite film shot here is Kindergarten Cop, but they also made one of the Free Willy films and Short Circuit. Fun day and I only had one cramp in my leg last night. Hurray. Well, enjoy your cooler air dear lady, Love you, Sue
Sue
So glad to hear you going out together. Nice huh ? I love Short Circuit , and Kindergarten Cop. “It’s not a tuuumor”. The cooler air has gone and once again heat reigns. FM even ran the AC yesterday. We gave the horses another shower last night. Although I had felt so bad yesterday. My RA is not happy with the heat. He asks me if my family really knows what is wrong with me. He has researched and knows all, keeps looking for things to help me. And helps me so much. Gonna miss that man terribly. Only one more week. But, he must get things settled.
Soon, it will be back to DVDs and books. But I will go out and do more. It feels good to be put and about doesn’t it ?
Love ya
Tonie
HELLO……I AM SO SAD AT THE NEWS TODAY THAT AN 86YR OLD PRIEST HAD HIS THROAT CUT AND HOSTAGES TAKEN IN A CHURCH IN ROUEN FRANCE. THIS IS NORTHERN FRANCE WHERE I LIVE, AND I HAVE BEEN DREADING IT GETTING CLOSER…..AND NOW IT IS.
JUST WANT TO GET HOME NOW, NOT SAYING IT CAN’T HAPPEN THERE, AS INDEED IT HAS, THE SILENT ENEMY IS IN ALL OUR COUNTRIES, SO PLEASE MY DEAR FRIENDS BE VIGILANT WHEREVER YOU GO TO.
NO WORD YET TO SAY IF THE VIEWER LIKE WHAT HE SAW ENOUGH TO COME BACK FOR A SECOND LOOK.
TONIE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS, I AM ALWAYS GRATEFUL.
FEELING CHILLY HERE AFTER THE HEATWAVE, NOT SURE WHICH IS BEST, ALL WEATHER CHANGES SEEM TO AFFECT THE JOINTS.
TAKE CARE EVERYONE, AND LOVE TO ALL………………….JENNIE XX
Jennie
So much happening there all around you…my prayers for that country and all involved. It is called ” terrorism” for a reason. They want to frighten you where you will not go out; to church, to shop, for a celebration….anywhere there are people, they want you to be frightened. You are right, it can and does happen anywhere. But that is the way of these snakes. I pray a hedge around all my friends and loved ones here and abroad, that God will protect them and keep them safe from danger. Having faith and being vigilant is the only way through this mess.
Pray for my FM who leaves here on the 3rd to travel back to France for hopefully the last time. He is so concerned about loosing his retirement. It is a dilemma that we ourselves could face one day. Just be safe my friend.
Love
Tonie
TONIE…..YES INDEED A LOT GOING ON HERE IN FRANCE, MORE BAD THAN GOOD AT THE MOMENT. I AM NOT SCARED FOR MYSELF, BUT FOR OTHERS, YES I AM.
I LIKE THE IDEA OF A HEDGE AROUND FRIENDS AND LOVED ONES, WHAT A LOVELY IDEA, I WILL KEEP THAT THOUGHT WHEN I SAY MY PRAYERS. THANK YOU DEAR FRIEND.
OF COURSE I WILL PRAY FOR YOUR FM TONIE, I WISH HE DIDN’T HAVE TO GO BACK, BUT IF ITS FOR THE LAST TIME, MAY IT GO QUICKLY AND HE BE RETURNED SAFELY TO YOU……STAY SAFE TOO…..LOVE JENNIE XX
Jen, indeed, that is chilling news. A priest and nuns of all things. I couldn’t believe the news it was so horrifying. I know you must feel like it is creeping closer. I pray your lookie loo turns into a buyer. The Isle always sounds so beautiful. Hope you get there soon. Has your weather cooled off at all?
It’s been so lovely here weather wise that we feel very fortunate. Think of you so often and know the right thing will work out for you. One day at a time, you can do it. Love you, Sue
SUE…….DEVASTATING AS IT IS, IT MAKES YOU WONDER HOW MUCH LOWER THESE THUGS CAN GO, THE TRUTH IS THAT THEY DON’T CARE WHO THEY TAKE OUT, THEY WANT TO RLE THE WEST AND HAVE US ALL SUBMIT TO THEM….WELL JOG ON, NOT HAPPENING.
STILL NO WORD FROM THE LOOKIE LOO, AND NOTHING FROM ANYONE ELSE, TRYING TO KEEP FAITH THAT SOMEONE WILL COME AND LOVE THE HOUSE AS WE DO.
YES THE WEATHER HAS REALLY COOLED OFF, NOT SURE I LIKE IT EITHER, HAD TO PUT SOCKS ON YESTERDAY, I MEAN COME ON, THIS IS STILL JULY.
HOW IS IT FOR YOU MY FRIEND, ARE YOU STILL GETTING OUT AND ABOUT A BIT? YOU ARE SO MUCH MORE POSITIVE THAN A WHILE AGO?
TAKE CARE….LOVE YOU…JEN X
JEN, IT’S A SCARY WORLD WE LIVE IN TODAY. BUT THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT TERRORISTS WANT US TO FEEL..AFRAID TO GO ANYWHERE. I PRAY YOUR VIEWERS WILL TURN INTO BUYERS. IT WILL HAPPEN. KEEP THINKING POSITIVE AND I WILL PRAY FOR THAT. SENT YOU A MESSAGE..LOVE, JO
JO…..YES YOU ARE RIGHT, WE MUST NOT BE AFRAID TO GO OUT AND DO THINGS, OR HIDE UP, BUT BE MORE VIGILANT THAN BEFORE, REPORT ANYTHING THAT DOESN’T LOOK OR SEEM RIGHT, THE PUBLIC HAVE TO DO THEIR BIT TOO, AND ALL WORK TOGETHER, AND JUST DO THE BEST WE CAN.
THANKS FOR YOUR PRAYERS LOVE, RIGHT BACK AT YOU…………..LOVE YOU BIG….JEN X
Sue
Your right the year..I got thru it and on a good side now
I hope my dad thinks so and can see the bungalow,he would love it…he would want to stay…..well maybe not such a good idea! My poor ol dad….
You sound so much better and brighter and enjoying life..I like that
Jen
Lovely place went there once withGS on the ferry…we all loved it and GS called it the island of Wight.he loved looking at all. The sailing boats coming up close….he was 5 at the time.
Yes the news is dreadful.weve just got our tv sorted today and been without news and it’s been good not hearing it all. Blimmin awful lot. Is it far from where you are….I’m always thinkin about terror with shopping and DD going by train to London
Well been busy again cleaned one more room.putting pics up tomorrow.
Tonie
I can have nooooo more icecream put on 7 lbs…….so don’t temp me
Tired now writing this in the conservatory no chairs yet…just those directors chairs and a table
Nights are getting shorter slowly but I Can see it
Chris
CHRIS…HOW ARE YOU DOING LOVE? SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE GRADUALLY GETTING STRAIGHT, YOU MUST SEND ME SOME MORE PICS WHEN YOU FINISH IT ALL.
YOU ARE AN ICE CREAM ADDICT LIKE ME, I GOT SO BAD I JUST REFUSE TO BUY IT, IF ITS NOT IN THE HOUSE, I DON’T GO LOOKING. BEEN DOING A LOT OF SUGAR FREE BAKING, SO ENJOYING A SLICE OF “LEGAL” CAKE WITH A CUPPA IN THE AFTERNOONS WHILST WATCHING “ESCAPE TO THE COUNTRY”
7LBS IS NOT THAT BAD, AND THERE IS A LOT OF CALCIUM IN THE GOOD ICE CREAM, SO AT LEAST YOU ARE GETTING BENEFITS………
COULDN’T BELIEVE THIS MORNING……WOKE AT 6AM AND IT WAS STILL DARK….FLIPPING HECK!!
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU GO TO THE SHOPPING CENTRES AND ON THE TRAIN WON’T YOU??
MUCH LOVE….JEN X
Chris, sounds like you are getting all unpacked and placing things where you want them in nice clean rooms. You’re working too hard but I can certainly understand the motivation. A new house, at least new to you, can be so much fun and give you a new look at all your possessions.
Yes, you proved yourself to be a survivor. What a year for you and now you have much to look forward to. I”m sure your dear Dad is happy for you.
Yes, I was feeling much better until a couple of days ago. Terrible headache and nausea. I learned I can’t take the larger dose of Lyrica and am going back to the smaller dose. I felt good on it…not perfect, but who expects perfect? Thinking of you so often and pray all is well with you and DH. Love, Sue
Good morning all
Hope this finds you all well and feeling good. Warm out but cold in here, they keep the AC turned way down. Brrr!
Well, I found a great pillow. Called My Pillow. I had seen it advertised but was so expensive. Caught them on special on QVC and bought them. I slept soooo good last night with my neck comfortable and not bent. They stay where you put them and have cotton inside. Very nice, worth the wait. Okay….commercial over.
Now…had interruptions before I could finish. Got a call from a man who will take Romeo, supposed to meet him on Saturday. Gave Ms Alice a shower ( boy it just gets harder) and a snack, so now I can relax until lunch. Maybe we can go check on the blackberries tonight and see if there are any left to pick. I have a bag of early apples to peal and freeze u til I want to make applesauce. Digging through the cupboard and found another can of apple butter for the FM. He loves it, mixes it with sour cream. Jennie, is sour cream a big condiment to use there ? Last night I made us some zuchinni lasagna It was very good with some crusty French bread.
Chris, I can never give up ice cream, I will give up something else. I cut way back on bread, two slices in the morning, and occasional sandwich. Last night was a treat. I eat primarily veggies, I am not a big meat fan and must make myself eat more protein. I love chicken and fish, but even that can be iffy for me. If I let myself, I could eat doughnuts, plain cakes and ice cream all day ! But using some restraint, ….it is hard sometimes though huh ?
Take care all and have a wonderful day. Tomorrow I am off to the rheumy. See what goes on there.
Love to all
To ie
Tonie…..French people don’t have an equivalent for sour cream, the nearest thing to it is Crème Fraiche. Your FM probably likes it because its a bit different from what he is used to….we have sour cream in the UK though.
Good luck at the rheumy tomorrow……much love…Jennie x
Tonie, Hope the trip to the rheumy produced some helpful ideas. Your dinner of lasagna sounds wonderful. I love to hear about your dear friend discovering our American cuisine. I’m sure he equally shares French culinary ideas with you along with a few other things. Oh my…only one week. My heart aches for both of you but I know he’ll be back ASAP.
I’m with you on the limited amount of meat in my diet. I get sick of the bitter taste of beef, always welcome fresh fish and tire of chicken but love how it can be used in so many ways. I made Stroganoff again last night. Usually use rib eye steak in it. Went to Costco with Jim and the cost of rib eye has risen to $19.99 a lb. I was in shock. So much for that…got top round. It was nice to hang in there at Costco and not have to go to the car to rest my weary carcass. A couple of days ago cranked up the Lyrica to the next dose but it makes me buzz a bit and I hope I get used to it. I don’t like that feeling.
How wonderful for you to have access to the berries and your lovely garden. You are so fortunate in so many ways dear girl. I’ve read about the My Pillow and have seen endless commercials about it. Pleased you like it so much. Nothing beats a good night of sleep. My Scooba died and I miss it and now Jim wants me to order a new one for my birthday. Guess I will. They do such a wonderful job cleaning the floor…I looked up a few others but they don’t do quite what Scooba does with the water, squeegee action. All of the others I saw use a cloth just like the Swiffer wet mops.
Let us know how you are after your full day. I know Ms. Alice is a task of gigantic proportions…just glad she isn’t gigantic. Love, Sue
TONIE………WE DON’T HAVE SOUR CREAM OVER HERE, THE NEAREST TO IT IS CREME FRAICHE, WE HAVE IT IN THE UK THOUGH, YOUR FM PROBABLY LIKES IT BECAUSE IT TASTE DIFFERENT TO WHAT HE IS USED TO. NO I CAN’T GIVE UP ICE CREAM EITHER, RATHER STICK PINS IN MY EYES……LOL XX
SO WEIRD….FIRST POST DIDN’T GO THROUGH SO TYPED IT AGAIN, THEN SAW IT CAME UP LATER……AND NO, I HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE BOTTLE……..XX
Jen, So the weather is now cool? My goodess but your weather has been strange this year. We just continue to have changes but they all happen in one day and are only a variant of about ten degrees. Low cloud here this AM now beautiful, sunny, blue skies and breezy. Check out FB a bit later as I will share some of the pics my friends from CA took last week. THought all of you would enjoy them of our house and the region.
I know it’s hard to wait to sell when you want to be some place else. I truly do. We had 50 open houses before we got out of CA. Like you, we had a love home. Ours was new and we put in a pool to help sell it but still, four long years then all of a sudden, it sold. I pray that for you…not the four years but the sudden sale.
How are you doing with the foot problems. Have any of the items helped at all? I know there is always something going on and you, like me, hate to mention them all the time. ENdless trouble for many of us as we look for breaks. I apologize if I have been coming across negative. I didn’t realize and will have to watch that in the future. Much love, Sue
Shorty
As been busy
Electricians in all day.put in a new meter box and it kept tripping so they had to go to every plug unwire it to see what was doing it.so all my cleaning was wasted…hec of a mess everywhere..as had new plugs put in becos of it and they had to drill from outside to put new earth wires in and into attic..awful day.then when they were in a cupboard they found a small gas leak.that had to have a gas man out..it went on and on.
So I’ve cleaned up as it was before..I managed to sort out some of my dads phone calls with change of my address.then cleaned sitting room while they were doing there thing in the house.so progress…
Sue
Wise to judge the meds as you are doing..you want to be the best as can on the least
tonie
We don’t eat much meat..fish and chicken as that’s good for cholesterol.and a lot of veg too
Gotta close
So tired
Chris
Chris, oh no! I am so sorry to hear about the mess and bother and undue expense. In a way, however, it is like the fire we had caused by the painters in 2013; it pointed out a problem that could have been very dangerous. I know you must be exhausted. Rest dear friend. Love you, Sue
Oh, goodness, Chris, so much to do in your new home. But, then you will have it the way you want it. Just wish some of these things weren’t happening, and all at once! Yikes!
Good morning all
Getting ready for a day of swimming and who knows what else ! We had a wonderful cooling rain yesterday , very welcome. Sat on the new porch and watched
The rheumy was the same, except we took the mtx dosage down a notch as it seems my RA is “under control”. She says. I say it is really bothering me, she says my joints are never swollen so…….. More than joints ! She says it is my osteo that is acting up and that is what is in my back, no RA ever in the back. Don’t know. My pain pills are almost gone and the dr was off all week. Have to make do until my refills get here. Anyway, we had a day of shopping, traffic jams, sightseeing and ICE CREAM ! Got home around 6:15 last evening.
Chris, so sorry for all the troubles, but like Sue said……. It all has a reason. I need to get my gas heater repaired or get a new one. The gas company wanted to charge me $70 rent on the gas cylinder, I told them to come get it. I will get gas from somewhere else, they told me it was free ! Always something.
My grandson will be with us today after workout. My son is driving Nikki and her ex to Fla to drop him and his son off. Crazy story and strange behavior from all, but just pray for safe travel for all.
Love to you all
Tonie
Tonie, Glad you had a day of swimming, rheumy and ice cream. Sounds like you got a cooling wave which is always a relief after extreme heat. We seem to always start our days with clouds or some mild fog then by 5 or 6 in the afternoon it is blue skies and windy.
Sorry the rheumy wasn’t really much help to you. Sometimes I wonder about that whole specialty. THey seem to all vary so much. Have your joints ever been swollen? Does she go a lot by lab work? Some of them don’t look at the patient enough and go with the lab. Others are all exam so it depends. I hope you get along okay on the lower dose of methotrexate. So they pulled the prednisone is that right? Sorry to hear you’re being jerked around by the propane guy. You’re right. It is always something.
I went back to the lower dose of Lyrica yesterday and already feeling better. Five days of the higher dose was all I could stand. I’m feeling quite old lately. Guess it’s the birthday. Guess it’s time to admit I am old. Simply put. Enjoy these precious days dear friend. Love you, Sue
HELLO………NOT FEELING TOO WELL, WILL GET BACK WHEN I CAN…….MUCH LOVE TO ALL …JENNIE X
Sorry you are not feeling well, Jennie. I’m a bit under myself, but that was to be expected. Rest well, and hoping the right buyer walks through your door soon.
Jen, sent you a PM on FB. Love and prayers, Sue
Sue, so glad you feel a difference with Lyrica, and a nice walk with DH and Grands? Priceless! No one needs to tell you to listen to your body as far as dosing. Even if you end up with the lower dose, it sounds worth it. 🙂 Concert was last night – full semi-staged performance of La Traviata. I made it through, feeling it a bit today as expected. Yes, it was worth it. 🙂
Catch you all later! Time for some much needed rest.
Lyn, know you must be exhausted but satisfied. The concert sounds remarkable. You are so fortunate to be so talented and to be involved in so much wonderful music. Rest dear friend. Love you, Sue
