THE TRAIN OF CHANGE

“Come on board little children, come on board little children, come on board little children…” Wait! If you’re reading this and obviously alive then you’re already onboard your own train of life.

Life is full of variables and constants and one of those constants is change. Each day you and I change. We have skin cells die as new ones are born, hair follicles fall as new ones take their place and all of life within our bodies ages, as it is designed to do. We humans seem to rail against change more than any other species alive. We put great value on youth, perfection and beauty; however the poets tell us that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We’re also told beauty is skin deep; some days I feel ugly all the way to the bone. For many of us who live with chronic illness which is often accompanied by chronic pain, we embraced a different concept of beauty long ago. We watch as our friends fret over one tiny wrinkle, two or more gray hairs and silently wish we had something that mundane to worry about. I don’t think that’s a judgment but it is a difference in priority for us. We would turn completely gray if it meant one day without pain. We would wrinkle like a linen hankie for one small measure of health.

The train of change is moving and we’re each of us, onboard. As we hear the clickety clack of the wheels on the rails, our lives are moving and changing. Change is a common denominator for all of us but for some of us, we face it more often than others.

This has been the story of my life with chronic illness and this year stands out as the greatest year or journey of change I have yet to experience. When changes take place in our bodies, they are often accompanied by changes in lifestyle. Just ask any of the thousands of brave war heroes who came home disfigured, maimed or missing at least one appendage. Daily life can also become disfigured as we take on new challenges, changes or alterations in what we can do, just for starters. Other changes we face are the disfigurements in our bodies and our own as well as others reactions to those changes. Changes in self-image can be very difficult to work through.

When one first becomes ill with a disease that is obviously going to become a permanent part of life, one’s head is practically spinning in circles. There is so much to consider such as jobs, marriages, income and the everyday business of surviving. We quickly become experts in what we are facing or we will crash or fall off the train. We can’t get off the train but we can learn how to survive and eventually enjoy the journey. I know, enjoy is a pretty strong word for many who are stuck in bitterness and regret, but eventually, most of us come to the realization that life must have some joy or it is wasted.

Life is still spectacular. It just might not be spectacular in the way each of us had planned for it to be. Change rears its head, the train we’re on heads down a sidetrack and there we are in a life unplanned and not desired. Not only have our bodies changed and continue to do so, but all of the crevices and other areas of our lives are also altered.

For me it began over 25 years ago when I couldn’t sit for any period of time. Sitting affects all of life. Change… clickety, clack. Then I began to see the changes fraught by my disease as my ankles, ears and cartilaginous parts became misshapen, more pain came onboard causing relationships to be altered due to what I could no longer do. Internal problems began with heart problems, irritable bowel syndrome and dryness of membranes, called Sjogren’s Syndrome. My original disease which had been taking me down a sidetrack for years was finally identified as Relapsing Polychondritis. Some of our journeys have no ticket stamped with a destination and we have to wait until some knowledgeable physician stumbles onto a symptom which reveals some answers for us. This year I have been visited by cancer and it has changed my appearance as my chest is left with one little lone survivor and I try to dress accordingly. As an added bonus my original disease has reared its ugly head and due to the treatment of it, osteoporosis has taken a toll on my spine, as well as my teeth and eyes.

Now I get to be shorter, minus one breast, limping along still unable to sit. Gracious, I do sound like a mess but I can still hear the clack of the wheels as my life still heads along toward some destination, some surprise which is uniquely designed for me.

I realized some time ago I am not alone on that train. I have many to accompany me on this journey. They hurt like I do. They are also seeking the joy and the view from the train. Oh yes, there is a view outside those train windows and it is often a beautiful one as the landscape of life flows by outside ourselves. We just have to remember to look out said windows. Sometimes the train slows down long enough for us to enjoy the view, get off the train for a break and savor the enjoyment of love, laughter and others. Life is all around us, for us and within us and it is up to us to do something as simple as looking out that train window. How’s the view from your seat?

Each of us on this journey has to decide not just what we can’t do, but what we can. We have to stop grieving for that which is lost and see what is found and lying before us. I don’t know where my train is going but I do trust in the engineer and believe He knows where I am going. No journey is endless or without reason if one can learn, savor and live it with as much gusto as possible. Some days my gusto is the size of a teaspoon whereas other days it is greater. Is a teaspoon of joy and love of life really less than a whole bottle full? Doesn’t it depend on the who, the what and the degree of enjoyment?

As you know, my husband is also an RN. He’s a large, burly “man’s man” and did not relish going through his obstetrics classes in college but he had to. One night he had a young expectant woman in labor who was doing a bit of screaming and she said, “I changed my mind, I don’t want to do this.”

My dear spouse looked at her and said, “Sorry, honey but the train has already left the station.”

Well, my dear friends and fellow travelers, our train has already left the station so we might as well find a way to enjoy the ride.

Changes in self image …so hard to accept..I keep trying to be what I was when I was ME…this new ME aint good..it’s not the person I am inside.it doesn’t reflect who I am .what I have done ..only this new look that doesn’t describe who I am…it’s like here comes my illness…that’s how it feels on this side anyway true or not
Sometimes life is so easy for some…and I am envious of that ease ..I want some too
To go for a short walk on the beach..so simple ,but not possible. .the sand in the eyes..I can’t even go anywhere near the stuff…so easy for some. Sue.. you have had a sh.t of a year ….and to go even outside for you sometimes was not possible ,so that seems small change . Your DHs humour I’m sure must have helped carry you thru.AND that’s where we have to look at what we have got ……
Family has also had to change I feel to this new me ,or G.kids not having known the proper ME,that hurts …I always new my grandmother as ill…..I wanted to be different
Ofcourse we never know what others are going thru..we only see on the surface
Well gonna try to sleep ..if only!…
    Chris

    • Chris, I know the down side of so many of these changes can be so painful…every day. I have four grands in TX who don’t know me and probably never will beyond the fact I talk to their Dad on occasion and send birthday stuff. The two older boys remember me teaching them to swim in pool we had in CA. The two local grands do know me as fun but have seen a drastic change in this current year, I’m sure. I still try to add a bit of goofy to my play and we laugh a lot.
Chris dear, change is hard. There is no easy way to go through it except with grace. For instance, I don’t usually wear Capri pants because of my ugly ankles but decided to order a pair for spring. Screw what people think. I like to look as current and stylish as I can. I still color my hair because I don’t look good in gray. I usually wear bright colors or earth tones. Life is made to be lived, right?
One of the things I don’t like about change is when things get hard to do, like cutting your toenails when you have a fractured vertebra. That is tricky.
Dear friend, please know and let the real you shine through. If others feel good being around you they will come. Can you buy a large pair of wrap around sunglasses for a calm walk on the beach. I know about the wind and sand and share that concern. Hang in there and be the real you…the current you and you will shine through. The heart always shows. Love, Sue

Well I have bought some goggles to completely seal off my eyes for this year.bought them last week.but have yet to wear them.as soon as my legs are ok and back( sore from seeing us into shed and stuff) I will try them out…..but concerned I will look a weirdo ! But as you say screw what they say
My hair has gone all white but I can’t use anything on it as I’m allergic to them all last three times I tried i swelled up and my eyes were all closed up..so I daren’t do it any more.it got worse each time
    Brenda
So glad no one was on the decking..what an awful thing to have happened
It gives it sunny here today so maybe we will get to sit in those chairs!
    Kathy
Glad it has all sorted out for you..magic
Yep it t sounds as if you had a great birthday
Well it’s just gone 5am here had 4 hrs of sleep not bad
    Chris

    • Chris, If my hair was all white I’d leave it. I noticed that with the actress Judy Dench and her hair looks great. Hope the goggles work and as far as others…make them guess what you’re up to. Hope your soreness gets better so you can walk on the beach. Love, Sue

  3. Sue:
Boy do we not all hear that clack clack of the train wheels rolling. I do know of which you speak. My back is getting worse and I find sitting or standing for long periods (an hour or more) is very painful. I am fine, sit down , then can hardly get up and walk. But, such is our life huh ? You have had it bad this year, a lot on you. I pray for your increased strength each day. As you said, the Conductor of this train knows what He is doing even when we don’t. We never know when He is using us to help someone else who is not as strong.
Chris, I love your hair, looks good on you. I always wanted mine to go that way, but mine went like white blond. I could color it but refuse to go that route cause I hate the ritual. Plus, my hair is so fragile I am afraid it would really go out. 🙂 Use the goggles, I was thinking that.
Well, gotta get going, I have the dentist first thing this morning, then I gotta get back home cause I got gravel coming for the muddy driveway. I got Red a new halter yesterday (turquiose) and he is so handsome ! I did get the pasture raked at great expense to my back, but it is done and the rain will make the poop go away into the ground. Put myself on the list to get my garden plowed, and life is rolling on. At least it has warmed up !! Thank you Lord.
Have a great day all, Love you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, I’ll bet you are resting after your trip to the dentist today. I know you have things you must do at home but I do cringe at times when I hear all you do. There is no one else many times, I know but I do fear for you. Sorry to hear your back is such a problem; indeed I empathize. Glad you got the field sorted out and know you look forward to planting your garden. Hope spring is popping back there.
I will be anxious to hear how it goes with the broken tooth and hope the solution is simple. Please don’t be lifting any gravel…isn’t raking it enough? Love you gal, Sue

      • Well, Sue, nothing could be done but pull the remains out. It was too short to hold a cap so ….I go back on Tuesday to see what options we can come up with that won’t break the bank ! It is raining this morning but VERY warm, it was 55′ at 7 am !! YEAH. I have to get up and get going , I must drive to the RA apt. this am. Have to be there at 11:45, so I need to get with it! I know I do too much, but I so love working outdoors. (if you saw my house you would know !) I hate housework. After being cooped up all winter, well…I just want to be out. We got the gravel for our drive yesterday, so that is not a mudhole anymore. I am halfway thru this busy week and hope I can hold up tomorrow for all that testing. I did find out the mamo is going to be DIGITAL !! YEah , no squshing !
Well must run, I will be back tonight hopefully !!
        Love to you all
        Tonie
PS the gravel man did all the spreading for us !

  4. Tonie
Ta very muchly for your comments.😊
Hope your tooth gets fixed ok.ive got a crown that’s very lose and needs to drop out clean so it can be glued back in.if the dentist takes it out it could break

Well went out yesterday to an area we haven’t been to for a while ,it was such lovely weather
Going home tomorrow ,leaving about 4pm as the weather is nice up till then…then rain
The weather is so warm we will be able to sit out and have a drink(tea!)
DH bp is up in the morning then down as the day goes on
There is only us on the site, except for a lady who lives here all the time.there are 35 here, but It is never full.even in the summer the site is only about half full..the lady who lives here goes to her daughter and then holidays when the site closes.she is a nice girl and has a lovely little dog and always stops for a chat.
Well my eyes are a bit sore somgonna pack it in
    Chris

    • Chris, your description of your shed and location sounds so peaceful. Glad you’re having a good time. We’re also having rain come in tomorrow. Have a safe trip home. Take care of your eyes. Did you get to walk on the sand yet or are they just the usual dry eye, fatigue? Time to catch some sleep here, also. Boring day here except for a couple of hours with the GS. Got a bit accomplished around here…very little bit. Mix up in medication order requiring nine phone calls, now straightened out. Life, huh? Safe journey. Love, Sue

  5. Sue
Yep just the ususal…but am taking omeprazole for reflux again to see if it helps( no it doesn’t either for my breathing and cough) and it dries my eyes up further
No didn’t go near sand at moment and yesterday went to a place with just a creek there
I hate those phone calls to sort stuff out others should have got right in the first place.its is sooo wearing
Hope it didn’t impinge on time with your GS
    Chris

    • Chris, so it’s home again today? Hope the rain didn’t give you too much wetness on the ride. I also omeprazole at night because I take something for acid twice a day and the one I take in the morning is too expensive to take twice a day. I haven’t noticed any extra dryness but quite honestly, I take so many things it would be hard to pinpoint it. I find the hyoscyamine much more drying. Try not to take it often. A creek sounds so soothing. Isn’t it funny how being near water is so calming?
Yes, sometimes the business of being sick is a real pain in the mind. My doctor had called the meds into the wrong pharmacy so my pharmacy wouldn’t fill it,naturally, but I didn’t know any of this. Confused situation. In all fairness to my doc, we have a local drugstore which is the same as the mail in one I use so mistakes can happen. I use a mail in pharmacy out of Arizona because it’s less expensive to get 90 days of refill and also more convenient than always running out to the store to get refills.
Hope you find all well at home, Dad included. Thinking of you, Sue

  6. All aboard the Pain Train. Not the vehicle any of us would have chosen, I’m sure, but it sure does beat that other train – at least for now. I’m still recovering from a little side trip with the pup this weekend. We took nice walks in the snow on the Rail Trail this weekend. More than I should have done, but she LOVED it, which of course made it worth it. I believe pup is looking for a walk this morning, but it is still a bit wet out so I’m trying to put her off, hoping it might dry a bit. She gets dirty from the wet roadway. DH would like me to join him for lunch with his department today at a local Pizzeria. I don’t really want pizza for lunch, but he’s going through a rough time right now so I think I should probably drop by. I guess that means no walk right now for pup, and I must get dressed and ready for the outing. I’d love to settle in with my book for a little while. Maybe later?? Meanwhile, pup may have been unhappy I wouldn’t let her take the cats’ toy outside – she wouldn’t give up the toy so she also didn’t get to go out. Later she asked to go without the toy so I put her out. Was looking for Rufus to give him meds and found Sadie had gotten a pen and pencil and chewed up both. Nice little mess to clean up. Oh, Sadie…
I suppose I should head upstairs. Clickety Clack, all.

    • Lyn, isn’t it interesting how quickly our pets develop habits and don’t like to be swayed from them? Sadie is spoiled but what a lovely life you’ve given her. I’m sorry she got into trouble with a pencil and pen. Hope you didn’t get ink on the carpet. George likes pens also and I have to really watch him.I’m more worried about him choking on the plastic pieces because he has such a tiny little throat. He will even nudge a treat with his nose if I offer him one that is too big, in his opinion. Oh our pets. What would we do without them?
Hope you got to the lunch with DH. Did you find something other than pizza to eat? Sounds like your wifely instincts were chiming in on that one. Sounds like you’re getting into the muddy stage of the winter snow. We are having rain today after our few days of fog. It’s a lovely soft rain and all is quiet outside. Well, should try to get a bit done around here. Have a couple of things to box and return. Bought a vest, followed directions and wow did it come out of the drier in a messy…frayed, smaller, wrinkled. It’s definitely going back. Life clicks and clacks along out here. Love, Sue

    • Lyn:
I know what you mean by “walking too much”. Mon, I reached the 10,000 step goal by accident. And boy have I paid for it. Getting to 5,000 has been a big push on the walking side, my back n hips hurt me too much , but I keep pushing and hoping it will not hurt so much “this time” Hope you had a good lunch. I know your dh appreciates you coming by.
      Love ya
      Tonie

  7. Tonie, glad to hear the gravel man did the spreading. Bet it’s a good feeling to have a dry driveway, huh? I am sorry to hear the whole tooth had to go. Maybe they’ll put in a bridge. You said it was a front tooth, right? Ask them about payment options, huh? Glad to hear you don’t have to be squished with the mammo. Isn’t that the worst? I have to do that next week.
Hope your sister is doing okay. How is she feeling? Hope Red and Baby are getting acquainted as time passes. Saw the new chicks on FB and hope all is well with them. Did your nephew get over to make a trap for you for that hideous night bandit you have?
Pray the back is behaving today and yes, I know how much you like to be outside. It’s just a worry that so much of the outside work is so hard on the body. Still looking at new homes? Take care of you, Love, Sue

    • Sue:
Well, I actually have to get the gravel man back here tomorrow for some extras, to finish out the end. And yes, it is very nice to not swish around in the mud. My yard is getting green like overnight 🙂 It has been so warm here today. In the 50’s when I got up not even 7 am ! I am surely gonna ask about payments. Judy is doing fine. SHe is all excited about the warmth as well. THe chickies are doing good. No, my nephew hasn’t come over yet. He has borrowed my Jeep for a few days and I am gonna take it back if he don’t get here soon. I told him he needs to get himself a back up car or trade for a hew vehicle. Red n Baby are doing well. Still getting used to each other. But they know where their feed is supposed to be 🙂
My back needs another injection, but i need to change pain management Dr’s. The one I have now would cost me too much co pay. I got a new heater pad for my bed, goes under the sheet and stays on for 10 hours. Just got it today and put it on. So much better than a heating pad. I put it lengthwise, so it goes all the way down my body. It feels wonderful !! RA Dr was all impressed with my weight loss. Lowered my MTX and raised my Gabapentin to see if my FMS would react. Well, tomorrow is another busy day, so I got to get to sleep.
And yes, still looking to that special home 🙂 Pray for me to find the right one.
      Love you
      Tonie

      • Tonie, wow girl, you’ve been putting some mileage on those sore joints. Glad the horses are warming up a bit. Sounds like spring is truly bursting out for you. Good. I do hope and pray you find a new home to put on your property that is not just adequate but that you love it and it will fill the desires of your heart for comfort and beauty. You deserve all of that pleasure. Glad the chicks are in good shape. Better light a fire under your nephew, huh? Be good to yourself. Glad the weight loss is still going well. Love you, Sue

  8. Hy all
Well didn’t go back,DH and I were at odds. I did say today and he was wondering why i was packing today….so we are now going back tommorow ….his deafness and I don’t get along!!
Sue I’m prescribed nexium which is more expensive but I find it more drying
Altho the omeprazole is affecting my peripheral neuropathy and my skin is on fire
    Tonie
Is the mammo a regular one?
Well folks gonna sort myself out
    Chris

    • Chris, so you get one more day. Chris, are nexium and the other one you take available over the counter in England? They are over here and the generic is very affordable compared to some. The one I am prescribed is called Aciphex and it is terribly expensive and am avoiding it until we meet our deductible for this year…will soon.
I know it is frustrating to live with a man who is hard of hearing. Jim is only somewhat deaf and won’t admit to it and I do admit I have a very soft voice so we have had many of our misunderstandings, too.
Good thing we both know how to read our own bodies so well…right? It’s all about survival and quality of life. Love, Sue

  9. Sue
The esomeprazloe you can get over the counter.but the nexium is on prescription only. Luckily once you are over 60 here you do get all meds free
Maybe I should stop mine and see about another type becos of this burning..I may stop them anyway they ain’t working I’m just giving myself more problems with them

Yep back tomorrow and home for a bit ,..my dad has his inj. as well tomorrow.further med apps for us hopefully ct scan results..DH to have blood tests..the list goes on
But spent today reading ,out for coffee, bit of shopping.drove along the cliffs and back to more reading and a soup I made yesterday
So gonna watch some tv and sleep…….
    Chris

  10. Hi Sue, Wonderful blog as always. That train is moving very fast on that track. Too fast for my liking. I look in the mirror and say to myself, “what happened to you?” I am not the woman I once was but I am me on the inside. I am strong. Even with the chronic pain I suffer daily, I can thank God for every single day I have. Without God I am nothing.

Last night I started on Neurontin for my Fibromyalgia pain. Don’t believe it will help with my degenerative disc disease pain but I hope it will. I was taking Lyrica and it just didn’t help except for the spinal pain in the middle of my back. It did nothing to help the wide spread muscle pain. I just hope and pray the Neurotin will help me.

Sue, you are such an inspiration to me. Thank you so much for your caring and thoughtful words and sharing your life with us. We know we aren’t alone as long as you keep posting your blogs. We are all in this together. God Bless You

  11. Well: Howdy !
2 days of running this body has worn me out ! I left the house at 7 this am and didn’t get home til 3:30/ I went from Mamao, to Cardio, to lab back to cardio, moniter on, then back to cardio for the scan. Whew. I didn’t leave there til 2 !
I have to wear my monitor til Sat, so they can see if anything shows on the afib side. Can’t do water aerobics tomorrow, so I can catch up on chores here. 🙂 Just a few, as I think I will be hard pressed for any energy tomorrow.
Hopefully I will get to ride a bit next wekk, if the weather stays. It was another nice day today.
    Take care all
Sue hope you are getting stronger. Keeping the faith that you will straighten up and be well.
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, oh my. You are worn out. Hope tomorrow can be a lie down day except for some bursts of energy. So you didn’t have to have the regular old style mammo? Hope all goes well with the cardio. Good dto get it checked out.
I always seem to have something going and life is just day to day survival with some small modicum of improvement with the back. Other problems worse as far as rheumatoid pain and IBS. Virus about gone but my esophagus is still burned from the radiation and probably always will be. I just choose to do the best I can and go with the rest. What else? Rest now dear friend. Love, Sue

      • SUe:
Haven’t had any bursts of energy today 🙂 So tired and my mouth is aching from all the needle pricks. It is cold and overcast here today…typical March. But, hopefully will be better tomorrow. I have a Shaklee presentation at the gym tomorrow. I do have to get my things together for that. Feeding the animals and that is all I am doing today !
        You take care.
        Love
        Tonie

  12. Tonie, glad you can have a clear schedule today. Hope the poor sore mouth calms a bit. Warm salt water? Rest up my friend and glad to hear you have some Shaklee business to attend to. Sounds good. Quiet day here thus far. Must shower and take on the one project I’ve promised myself to attend to today, cleaning a very crowded closet. Can’t find my clothes in that jungle. Need to give some things away. Howdy to the pups. Love ya, Sue

  13. Well today I did want the specialist told me..put the bed head up on two bricks each end
He said the pillows would be no good for reflux..I stuck with the pillows becos..it looks better😄.and difficult to do
But today we did it…becos..nothing is working for me and the Dr told me to come off the omeprazole as it was toxic for me..my skin was all on fire and prickling and lumpy.have to stay off for three days and start on nexium
So….tried the bed out and I see what he means. There is more gravity pull on the body .the pillows he said would be hopeless.so see if it works.of not its acommin down as it looks odd
My skin is so sore like sunburn all over with prickly shooting pains and on the tongue as well
Well with all that we went to a village where DH likes to get his hair cut.it was a lovely sunny day and we had a coffee out and I meandered looking at the shops windows. Then bought some rolls for lunch later
So here I am now vacuumed out upstairs and that’s me done.i just gonna sit here and prickle
Dr says DH has an eye infection so he’s got drops for that
Tonie I hope all improves for your presentation and Sue you got your wardrobe sorted….I wanna do that too
    Chris

    • Chris, I can’t imagine lifting the bed but do know that’s what should be. I’ll wager it will help you. That’s terrible about your drug reaction. Hope it gets out of your system very soon. Awful. Sorry to hear about DH’s eye infection and hope it also clears soon.
Wouldn’t it be great to sleep better if the lifting up the bed works for you? Here’s hoping. Love, Sue

    • Chris:
So sorry the pillows don’t work for you. They do me. Each one different. There is also a wedge you can get to put under you that keeps you raised up. I hope it all works for you soon.
      Love
      Tonie

  14. CHRIS WE DID THAT FOR OUR BED AND IT DID WORK. GOOD LUCK MY SWEETHEART. YOU ARE GOING THROUGH HARD TIMES. LOVE YOU.
    XXX

  15. Suzanne
That’s good that worked how long did it take?
I think It may have affected me to the better…a bit ..but have had to come off meds for it so not sure of anything!
Hope your pain has improved and your aunt more settled

Well I think the prickles are easing..so some good…but guess what..my crown fell out..and when I could ring dentist first thing Monday well.I got an internal ultra sound for polyps..so have to got for that first with my Litre of fluid..its at 8am!
THEN the bathroom light went Tonite and had to go to shops to get this fiddly bulb for it ..had to go to two
THEN my dad decides he wants to go to London for a garden party and wanted me to push him on a wheel chair all that day”………no way can we..so GS has been lobbed with it…..don’t really know about that as he could need the toilet an all…..you know what Ive previously said…..it could be awkward.its not till June so GS says he’ll come over nxt week and talk to him about it…
    No more today ..please!!
    But earlier..
My DD emailed me to ask how old I was and how long We’ve been married….so I emailed 67 yrs and married 46.so she emailed back….don’t know which is worse……she’s a funny bu..er
Tomorrow is Mother’s Day here..and she sent sp.delivery with the post from her and GS a garden shed tidy cum carrier with a handle metal with compartments .with string ,a dibber herb seeds all bits and pieces in its. She got it for the shed for me..I was really pleased with it
Oh well that’s it..gonna have my hair done tomorrow
    Another day….
    Chris

    • Chris, well, I can certainly see why you would be glad to flush this day. Sorry about your crown but glad you’re getting your hair cut and that will help a bit. Sorry your Dad is acting up but not too surprised. Will be interesting to see how your GS handles it. Sleep well tonight. Maybe tomorrow will be better. I’ve had bad gut cramps all day. Need to modify my laxative schedule I think. Ruined my whole day. Gees!! Later, Love ya, Sue

  16. Hi everybody, I have been reading all the posts but have not written anything. I am in so much pain in my left hip and back I haven’t felt like doing anything. One day it is nice sunny and warm and the next day cold and rainy. That is the way spring time is here in NC. It is suppose to be in the 70’s most everyday next week. It will be nice if it is. Monday I need to bag up some things for the Kidney Foundation to pick up on Tuesday. Mainly clothes. They do take household items and things like books and furniture. They come around about every 6 weeks to pick up. I sure hope I feel like getting it bagged up.
I am probably going to make this a generic post to everyone instead of individually this time so please forgive me. As most of you know I had a wreck in my van last year. My insurance company wanted me to total it. I said no I would get it fixed myself. So with the help of my daughter, she and I saved the money to get it fixed. It really looks good. I don’t know about other states but in NC you have to get it inspected in order to get your tag. I took it to our mechanic who inspects for us and had him fix a few small things and inspect it. Everything passed but the emissions test. The service engine light was on and so he reset it and had me drive it for 50 miles so the readiness codes would set. Now I have already had him to take it apart and clean it out and see if it was ok. I drove it and before I got 10 miles on it the light came back on. I took it back and when I drove up, my radiator was leaking everywhere. So I had to get a new radiator. I guess it was damaged in the wreck and when they moved it back into place to put the brackets on to hold it in place, it started to leak. I don’t know why the body shop didn’t see it when they had it. Anyway, got the new radiator in and it still hasn’t set the codes yet . He took it apart again and recleaned it. He and his dad put 60 miles on it yesterday but still didn’t set. I brought it home last night and Tomorrow I am going to drive it some more and pray the light doesn’t come back on. I will take it back Monday and see if it will pass. The bad part is my 10 day temporary tag expired yesterday and you can only get one. I have the papers where he has tried for 4 times to get it to pass so hoping that will keep me from getting a ticket. Please pray with me about this.
My nerves are shot over this. The stress is not helping either. The pain medicines just barely take the edge off. The only real relief I get is when I get in the bed and lie down. I have to fight this pain. I can’t stay in bed. The rest of my body and muscles will get stiff. It doesn’t hurt when I am walking either. It hurts sitting in a chair. I drove all those miles and it didn’t hurt sitting in the van. Go figure that one. Maybe when I get my tag in my hand, the pain will stop. If it does then we will know it was the stress. I do see my pain management Dr. Week after next. I might see my primary care doctor first and have her run a urine test and make sure it isn’t a UTI. I keep thinking it is my back because of the leg pin. I have had a stent in that kidney 2 times because of a narrowing in the tube at the top of the kidney. It only functions at 13 percent. It can’t be fixed surgically. I think I will do that first before they try and send me for an MRI. I panic too bad with those. They usually do a CT scan on my kidney. I tolerate those ok.
Sue, I go on Tuesday for labs for my tumor markers. As soon as I know anything I will let you and everyone know. For those of you that don’t know what a tumor marker blood test is, when you have had cancer, you are tested to see if your blood work shows certain proteins for tumors starting to pop up. If the numbers are higher than 33 or 38, they usually start doing PET Scans or Bone Scans to see if there is cancer anywhere. My last 4 have been up and down. My oncologist said if it is still up this time he will schedule one or the other scan. So I need your prayers about that too.
I have been and will continue to pray for all of you and what is going on with each of you. God will supply and meet all your needs whether it be health, financial, emotional or just feeling grateful for all He does in our lives. Our God is able to do it all. He loves each one of us. He watches over us always. He knows our every need before we even ask. There is no respector of persons with God. That means we are all equal with Him no one is more important than the other. He does the same for each of us. He loves us all the same. We are so Blessed! I just want you to know that even though I haven’t addressed each one of you individually, know that all the things that are going on in each one of your lives, I have that in my heart and prayers. I love you all and I am so glad that I found all of you. I don’t feel so all alone anymore. Love and Hugs to you. Donna

    • Donna, My but you are on a roll tonight. I am sorry you are having pain in the hip. It does sound a bit like your back could be to blame but you would know better than anyone, huh? I am also sorry to hear you are having trouble getting the emissions bit straightened out to register the car. I know how disappointed you must be after spending all of your own funds to get the wrecked van fixed. Life can get a tad complicated but take heart in knowing we each have our turn at the bat and can strike out on some days. If only life were perfect..Hang in there dear. .Love Sue

    • Donna:
If your vehicle is older, or has a lot of miles on it that light comes on anyway. My Jeep, it will not reset. Even after all the things were fixed that it said was wrong. I truly believe the industry does it that way so you will get rid of it.
The garage that had it probably just put some “stop leak” in that radiator and let it go. Standard practice. Prayers you get it to pass emissions. There are things they can do to fix it so it will. We had to do that in Az. Here in Va we have inspections, but not emissions. My new truck gets free inspections for life at the dealership. So cool beans , saves me $20 a year. God is good, as we have all atested to on here with the things He has done for us all.
      Love you too
      Tonie

  17. DONNA
You too have a lot going on
I hope the car gets All sorted
I wil be thinking of you next week

I’ve got to get up early tomorrow drink a litre at 7am in the morning and hold on to it😁
Then scan ….then organise my crown to go in
    Start of another week…

Sue hope your cramps went away
Gonna try and read and get to sleep…Mm mm!
    Chris

    • Chris, It’s a shame the way some of our troubles come in bunches. I’ll be thinking of you in the morning…well, as much as I can with the time lapses. Hope all goes well and you get that tooth fixed soon. No, still cramping here. Life? huh? Love, Sue

      • Sue, will be praying for your cramps. I do hope they get better soon. How is your back pain? I feel for you, I really do. Going to call my primary care doctor tomorrow and see when she can get me in to see her. Hopefully this week. Have to do my DH taxes tomorrow afternoon. Got a busy day tomorrow too. Love and hugs, Donna

    • Chris, thanks for your thoughts. I put 28 more miles on the van today and the engine light stayed off. I hope it will pass in the morning. I hope you can “hold” your litre until the scan. Also hope they are able to get your tooth fixed. Love and hugs, Donna
PS I hope you can get some sleep. How is the burning of your skin. Can you tell if having the bed up is helping?

      • Donna, Sounds like you have a busy day tomorrow…and let’s all hope that darn light stays off so you can get that one problem behind you on the van. Life’s challenges.

To all: That’s the thing about this blasted inflammatory bowel syndrome; it has a mind of its own and lasts as long as it’s going to last. I’m doing all I know to do, like watching what I’m eating and hydrating but the cramping get so tiring. I have a mammogram tomorrow and will start PT this week. My back is a bit better but still very limiting. My left chest is still so very uncomfortable and tight feeling. Wish I had a magic wand I could wave in the air. I am striving to adjust to so much it can be a bit overwhelming, but all of you know about that. SO many of the rheumatoid diseases seem to travel in packs as we have more than one diagnosis which means many symptoms at varying times. I have a couple of issues I haven’t brought up on here because it often just seems like TOO much. Jim is doing well as is dear little George. Our mini schnauzer, Jake is showing so much of his 14 years and is half blind and deaf and mostly sleeps. It’s hard to see him age so much. We don’t think he is suffering at all which is a blessing.
I’m trying to clean out drawers and closets, very little at a time. Have four boxes of books to go to the local library. I have a hard time parting with books but the shelves are crowded so must. I refuse to get rid of any of the DVD’s crowding the shelves. Movies and quilts are my two largest vices. Makes me a pretty boring person, I guess. Love you all and think of you daily. Sue

  18. Sue
About your cramps…I was wondering..the next time I start my meds for reflux..I have to start on Nexium
Well they give me IBS. The omeprazole I stopped as they were toxic never used to be for me and I could always take Nexium before..but something changed and I got these side effects…..I know you take tabs for reflux,…. do you think it maybe them causing the cramps fo you?
I have a hard time too giving away books..they are everywhere..isn’t it strange.i also prefer reading books to kindles.DH will read from his ipad, but I haven’t…”can’t quite change to that
I wish all your things would just go away and you could get on with your week and not held back with all.
Maybe sometime when you can.. you can tell us what other things are bugging you
Well am awake have been from 5am…think I’ll get up and have breakfast ,then that leaves me to just drink this litre at 7am
I hope the mammogram isn’t too sore for you sue today.i hate them..it would be good to have one like Tonie did
Hope all had a good w.end
    Chris

  19. Sue:
Good luck on the mamo today. Prayers that you travel well. I so want you to be better. No more than you I know. Hang in there sweet lady. I have a problem giving away books also. I have a pile of them, but of late just using the lending library at Fran’s 🙂 Only new books I have are on the Kindle. Well I did buy one about Jack the Ripper and who he really was. Still reading it. Very good.
Had a somewhat rested night. I still wake up all during the night regardless of the meds I take to prevent it. But I am not as tired as I was yesterday. I have to go back down to the hospital today and drop off the holter monitor I had on. No news yet so hopefully it is all good. Judy is concerned because I am so tired all the time, thinking it is my heart. I have to keep telling her it is the other junk I have that does that.
Well the sun is finally makin an appearance and I must get dressed and go about my biz today. Grocery store and hospital. Then we will see after that. I must get started on the fencing repairs so as to separate the fields again. Keep the horses in one while the grass grows in the other. Please take care today all of you. Chris prayers for your test as well.
Janet, how are you doing ? Miss hearing more from you.
Suzanne.. you as well. I need to ask you about the Amaryliss , I know you have a bunch of them. I have one and it is alive, but not blooming.
    Well, take care all
    LOve
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Thanks for your remarks. I had to reschedule my mammo due to a miserable night with almost no sleep due to cramping. It’s right here in town so I rescheduled for next week.
Sounds like your amaryllis needs a sunny window. Aren’t they wonderful, though. I rarely use my Kindle. I just prefer a book but find I do little reading these days due to eyes. They tire so quickly.
SOunds like you have a lot of heavy work to do today with the fences. Makes sense to have one field green while one is dinner. Hope they’re getting along better each day. Sounds like Baby is a bit jealous of you and her new home. Do take care today and I hope the Holter reveals nothing. Love, Sue

    • OH TONIE MY AMARYLIS DID FINE THIS YEAR, EVEN LAST YEAR’S BLOOMED EXCEPT FOR ONE. I JUST PUT T H EM IN A SUNNY WINDOW AND AWAY THEY GO. THEY DO GIVE ME SUCH JOY. TWO OF THEM BLOOMED 2 TIMES WITH 4 BLOOMS EACH TIME. I’M STARTING TO HAVE QUITE A COLLECTION OF THEM SINCE I PUT THEM IN THE CLOSET UPSTAIRS AROUND OCTOBER AND THEN TAKE THEM OUT AROUND CHRISTMAS TIME, WHEN THEY COME TO LIFE AGAIN. DEAR ME I HAVE SO MANY PLANTS RIGHT NOW IT TAKES ME A GOOD OLD WHILE TO CARE FOR T HEM EACH DAY. SOON DH AND I WILL START OUR SEEDS GOING FOR THE VEGGIE GARDEN AND ALSO FLOWER GARDEN. WE HAVE THOSE SPECIAL LIGHTS TO HELP THE GROW IN THEIR OWN LITTLE PELLETS.
TONIE DO YOU FIND THE KINDLE HARD TO HOLD, IS IT VERY HEAVY? I ALSO GAVE A WHOLE BUNCH OF BOOKS TO OUR LIBRARY. (OF COURSE NOW I M ISS THEM) BUT I JUST COULDN’T KEEP ALL THOSE BOOKS. I SEEM TO HAVE BOOKS EVERYWHERE IN THE HOUSE. REALLY NEED TO GET MY ACT TOGETHER AND START SPRING CLEANING. (YUCK)
YOU TAKE GOOD CARE MY DEAR FRIEND. SOUNDS LIKE YOU ARE DOING WELL AT LOOSING WEIGHT, WHAT IS YOUR WAY OF EATING NOW? KEEP IT UP TONIE YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB.
      LOVE YOU SWEET PEA.
      GOD BLESS XXX

  20. ALL ABOARD THE PAIN TRAIN, AS LYN SAID. YOU REALLY HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD WITH THAT BLOG SUE. MY LIFE CERTAINLY HAS CHANGED AND IT HAS CHANGED ME ALSO. WHEN I DREAM AT NIGHT I’M THE WAY I USE TO BE. FULL OF LIFE, GOING FIFTY MILES AN HOUR AND JUST HAVING A BLAST. THEN WHEN MORNING COMES OR I WAKE UP DURING THE NIGHT REALITY SET IN ONCE MORE. I’M HAVING MORE PAIN THAN USUAL IN MY BACK BUT DID GET AN X-RAY DONE, NOW WAITING ON THE RESULTS. I FIND WITH EACH PASSING YEAR I’M GETTING WORSE AND HAVING MORE TROUBLE DOING EVEN SMALL THINGS AROUND THE HOUSE, BUT I KEEP PUSHING MYSELF CAUSE I DON’T WANT TO STAY IN BED, BEEN THERE DONE THAT. STILL NOT SURE WHAT THE LYRICA IS DOING TO HELP ME, KEEP ASKING THE DOC AND SHE KEEPS TELLING ME IT’S FOR THE PAIN. WOULD REALLY LIKE TO STOP TAKING THAT ONE. I’M IN PAIN MOST OF THE TIME, THE PAIN KILLER I HAVE TAKES THE EDGE OFF BUT THAT’S ABOUT IT. I STARTED TAKING CELEBREX AGAIN BUT THAT P ILL MAKES ME FEEL SICK. WILL BE TELLING THE DOC WHEN I SEE HER ON APRIL 8TH. STANDING HURTS, SITTING HURTS…. WELL YOU ALL KNOW HOW THAT FEELS. I HAVE NOW LOST TOTAL CONTROL OF MY BLADDER WHICH IS NO FUN AT ALL.

AUNTY IS DOING OKAY. WE SET HER UP SO SHE CAN NOW SEE A BIT MORE THAN SHE COULD. STILL HAVE PAPERS FOR HER TO FILL IN. HER MIND SOMETIMES GETS LOST. I’VE BEEN MAKING MEALS FOR THE FREEZER FOR HER, BUT THAT HAS TAKEN IT’S TOLL ON ME. SHE CANCELLED HER MEALS ON WHEELS CAUSE SHE DIDN’T LIKE THE MEALS. SHE WAS GOING TO START UP AGAIN BUT NOW THERE IS NO PLACE LEFT. NOT GOOD.

I READ MOST OF THE COMMENTS AND I PRAY FOR ALL OF YOU TO HAVE A DAY OF LITTLE PAIN AND LOTS OF JOY.
OH CHRIS I NO LONGER DYE MY HAIR EITHER CAUSE IT HURTS TOO MUCH TO SIT IN THOSE CHAIRS AND I NOW LOOK AT MY WHITE HAIR AS WISDOM HIGHLIGHTS. LOL. I FEEL FOR ALL OF YOU BUT FOR NOW I HAVE TO MOVE AS I’M IN TOO MUCH PAIN TO CONTINUE. THANK YOU SUE FOR THE TRAIN RIDE OF OUR LIFE. YOU MY DEAR HAVE HAD ONE HECK OF A YEAR.!!!
    GOD BLESS EVERYONE.
    LOVE YOU ALL
    XXX

    • Suzanne, I think you are the best judge of whether the Lyrica is helping you or is not. All of the NSAID’s like celebrex can cause stomach trouble but are so helpful. You are so sweet with your aunt and know she must appreciate it when she’s lucid. It’s so hard growing old…don’t we each know that.
I am saddened to hear you have so much pain and hope they can find you some way to ease it. Glad you liked the blog. Love, Sue

      • OH SUE, I TAKE THE LYRICA 2X / DAY 75 MG EACH FOR PAIN, FOR DEPRESSION I TAKE VENLAFAXINE XR 75MG ONCE A DAY, CELEBREX 200MG 2X/DAY FOR PAIN , OXYENO 40MG 2X/DAY FOR PAIN AND FINALLY CLONAZEPAM 4X/DAY 1MG EACH I GUESS TO KEEP ME CALM.
I FEEL LIKE THEY ARE NOT CATCHING WHAT IS GOING ON IN MY BODY. I CAN’T TAKE THAT MUCH PAIN RELIEF AND STILL HAVE SO MUCH PAIN, JUST DOESN’T MAKE SENSE TO ME. I DO KEEP TELLING MY DOCTOR BUT SHE CONTINUES TO TELL ME IT WILL HELP ME FOR THE PAIN.???? I’M NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO DO?
WELL THAT’S ABOUT IT FROM THIS END.
HOPE YOUR CRAMPS ARE NOT AS BAD SUE.
        GOD BLESS. LOVE YOU!

  21. Well my ultra sound was good.still has to be read but he said he was happy with it.lining was thin no polyps…..thank goodness for that.having them out last three times with no anaesthetic is no joke
    Sooo tired today tho,slept twice.
Got my tooth fixed too..so I’m all set!!
    Suzanne
Oh I do understand about the bladder, me too!
And looking after your aunt as well I understand. It is so wearing and no time much for you
Each year it is so difficult to look back and compare.
Maybe we gotta use that blimmin wisdom somehow!!
    Tonie
I hope the test went good and all is well
You seem to be so busy all the time
    Sue
    Hope you are going good
    Chris

    • Chris, glad you had good news with the scan and the tooth. It’s about time you had some good news. Also so pleased it’s over for you. I had to reschedule my mammo due to miserable night. I will think over what you said about the meds. I have tried other stomach meds and don’t always take the evening dose as the morning Aciphex is very effective. I don’t really have regurg. I have positive H.pylori in my stomach and after years of NSAID’s, prednisone, etc. very sensitive gut. I’ve had three GI bleeds in past and have to be careful. Last night it was strictly IBS and low cramping. Chronic constipation is always there and has to be watched. So much, too tiring.
Hope the rest of your day goes well. Love, Sue

    • HAPPY TO HEAR ALL IS GOOD WITH THE ULTRA SOUND AND THE TOOTH. I HAVE TO GO FOR A MAMO. STILL WAITING TO HEAR ABOUT THE X-RAY OF MY BACK. I’LL KEEP YOU POSTED. I’M SO HAPPY YOU UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE BLADDER SITUATION. HARD TO TRAVEL WITH EVERYTHING I NEED TO BRING WITH ME. JUST REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU CHRIS.
      GOD BLESS YOU AND DH
      XXX

  22. Sue
You certainly have to do a balancing act with having stomach bleeds. Does the H.pylori stay with you all the time ?
I do hope you have a better night tonight with these cramps it’s so wearing all the time for you.
You must be doing all the ususal stuff for it. What else can you do but keep at it till it goes again.
It takes me a while now to read a book because my eyes seem to tire too and get so sore
I can’t think of anything the Dr has told me that you wouldn’t already know…trying to think of stuff

Might go to shed tomorrow if I’m not so tired..couldn’t face packing up to go today
Been in bed most of day

    Suzanne
Are you any better on the lyrica…..at all?
    Be back later Chris

    • Chris, Yes, I always have the H.pylori. Most people do but I have it bad enough that it turned up in a scope a few years back by showing a raw stomach. Most people have it but some more than others. It’s the bacteria they isolate many years back as the main cause of ulcers. When it was found a few years ago I went through a years of varying triple mixes of antibiotics and stomach meds but none of them got rid of it and only made me sicker. That’s why I tend to stay away from GI docs.
Small wonder you’re so tired today. Rest girl. Hope you do get to the coast tomorrow. Been in bed myself today so understand. Beth is coming over in a short while to cheer me up. Haven’t seen her in a week because the kids have had the stomach flu this time around and they didn’t want to give it to me. Isolation gets me down I’m afraid. Doesn’t it do that to most of us? Take care. You deserve a day of quiet. Love..

    • NO CHRIS I CAN HONESTLY SAY I DON’T FEEL ANY DIFFERENCE IF I TAKE IT OR NOT….. I JUST WISH SHE WOULD CHANGE MY PILL TO SOMETHING THAT WOULD WORK FOR ME. I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE DOESN’T.
HAPPY ALL WENT WELL FOR YOU TODAY.
SUE PRAYING FOR YOU MY DEAR FRIEND.
TONIE SWEET PEA, DO TAKE CARE WITH ALL THAT FENCING WORK YOU HAVE TO DO. ANXIOUSLY AWAITING YOUR RESULTS.
JENNIE POO HOW IS IT GOING?
DONNA HOPE THE CAR WORKED OUT TODAY AND ALL YOUR OTHER STRUGGLES.
LYN YOU ARE SUCH A KIND PERSON. GOING FOR LUNCH WITH DH AND ALSO WHEN YOU CAN BRING THE DOG (FORGOT IT’S NAME RIGHT NOW) FOR WALKS. SO REWARDING ISN’T IT.
SUE I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THIS LYRICA….. LOVE YOU DEAR WONDERFUL WOMAN.

LOVE TO ALL ON THIS BLOG.
      GOD BLESS XXX
      XXX

      • Suzanne, Please remind me why you don’t like the Lyrica. I thought you had trouble with depression when you were first on it. Is that still the case? My dear, you’ve got to present your feelings to the doctor. It is your body and if you have such strong feelings about it, remember it’s your body. Hang in there and look for things to be thankful for along the way, okay? I know you have some heavy responsibilities with your dear aunt but you have to care for your own health first or you are of no use to anyone at all. Thinking of you in all of this, your life. Love, Sue

  23. Suzanne
I’m with sue on this one ..that’s why I asked about it
If it’s not doing you any good…..can you see your Dr any sooner than in April to talk to him about it?
Yep I’m awake it’s just gone midnite.have been asleep try and get back
OH AND ITS DAY TWO OF MY DIET…….
    Chris

  24. Evening all:
ANother busy day I see. Sue, so sorry you were feeling so bad this am. Hope you feel better now. Chris, glad it all went good for you as well. Suzanne, Lyrica didn’t cut it for me either. I just stopped taking it. But if you have been on it a while, you need to be weaned off. Old hat for me having tried so many meds.
Well, the dentist was a waste of money :(. Went back to my old dentist from 35 years ago when I lived here. WHAT A JERK ! Just spoke very sharp and hateful with me, and then walked out of the room. All I wanted was an answer as to what we could do with the replacement, he starts giving me grief about my teeth and the expense of it all…I just left. Obviously I have to wait for a while to put a tooth in there But I wanted options, …didn’t like his version, so I will wait until this heals then go to another dentist. A few of my high school buddies and I are getting together on Sat for breakfast ( I think I am the only girl there ) so I am not looking forward to having a missing tooth 🙂
ANyhow, ran all day, then home to change the bed, plant a few flowers and I had to transplant my lilacs, cause I will be moving the home soon (I hope). Gonna try to work on the fence tomorrow. I need to separate the fields so the grass can grow. LOT:S of work to be done at Casita Dalton. Never runs out.
OH, they did post my ECG online. Not sure what it means, says I am at 65% ? Maybe one of you nurses can relate ? I am kinda worried it means a blockage.
    LOve to all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, Well, the old dentist sounds like he’s reached an ornery stage of senility. Glad you walked out on him. Ridiculous and unprofessional way for him to behave. I don’t like him. Never met him, never want to. I am sorry you have to have a reunion without a tooth. If this was a movie you could try a piece of Chiclets gum. No? I am sorry. Hope you can get a fair estimate. It shouldn’t cost the bank but it won’t be cheap. I still think you can either get dental insurance or get a payment plan. Did the jerk dentist give you a figure or estimate or just the lecture? What did he think that you had been chewing on gum and straight sugar all those years. Not a very understanding clod.
Good luck with all that you must do. We were dry today and have another storm coming in tonight. My cramps better today. Thanks for that, huh? Time to call it a day. Much love, Sue

      • Sue:
I thought about the chiclet I did ! Yes $1732. BUT he wanted to grind down two teeth around it and cap them both. I think not. I may just wait it out and see what the free/reduced price dentist does, I am prideful and I hate going around with a missing tooth. But I do have to wait a while til that hole heals up. I have a cleaning coming up and they have to do scaling, so t would probably be good to wait a while. He ruined my sisters front teeth grinding them down , she left him because he was so hateful. She said he lost a lot of weight and then he just changed.
Anyhow, my mouth is very sore all over, he took Xrays and showed me a cavity which HE will not fill. Most insurance these days makes you wait like 6 months before you can get any major stuff done. But I am looking into it.
        Love you much
So glad you are getting better.
        Tonie

  25. Good morning all:
Well, all that work yesterday at least made me sleep a little longer this am, much to the dispair of my animals ! I woke at 8:30. They were hollering at me soon as I went out the door. (well Baby was). SHe is such a pig, As soon as I come back in the house she is up eating Red;s food. SO after twice having to go run her away, I just tied her up til she finished eating 🙂 I guess I will do that or just keep getting my exercise. I really have to go and work on the fence today. It is a little overcast, we are supposed to get rain tomorrow and cooler temps 😦 , for the next week or so. So, “make hay while the sun shines” . Or something like that.
Happy St Patty’s to all of you, Irish or not. We have so many with Irish ancestry here in these mtns. Scots, and Welsh as well as just good old English.
I think another cup of coffee might just get me where I need to be to get up and going again. After I feed I come back to bed with my coffee and shake, read my scriptures, and then catch up. I do so LOVE this big heating pad I got from QVC. I think you need one Sue. It stays on for 10 hours and it has settings from low to very hot. I turn it on before I come to bed and it is waiting all warm for me. Haven’t even used the electric blankie since I got it. V32335 is the product number is you want to look it up, anyone. I just know Sue is very close with her heating pad. 🙂
Well, off to make that coffee.
    Love to you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, I just wrote you a very long reply and it flew away so looks like I will do it again. Let’s see…what did I say?
Sounds like dear Baby is spoiled already and never was a horse more deserving of it. I am sorry she is causing you a bit more work. Tying her up sounds good.
Glad you enjoy your new heating pad. I have looked at the heated mattress covers and always worried that I might feel the wires under my bum, also, if it’s bed size, Jim would never tolerate it. I have a twin size water heating pad that I bought several years ago but it got to the point it made me perspire too much. I will think about your type and thank you for the tip.
I think that dentist sounds like a masochist. Hope you never have to go near him ever again. That amount seems quite excessive but if you must…check out that payment plan option. I’m sorry you went through a root canal to only have to have it pulled. The same thing happened to me many years back and was so irritating but it wasn’t a front tooth and I could wait awhile to get a bridge for it.
Do be good to yourself with the fence building, okay? All those joints and your back will demand retribution you know. I’m feeling down today with low energy. Time to get something done. Think I’ll start with a shower and kick this feeling. Too much time alone I think. I need to get out and the PT will do that, for certain. Cloudy and overcast today after a beautiful sunny day yesterday. Do take care and enjoy the reunion lunch. When was that again? Love, Sue

      • Sue:
I had a productive day, and yes, my body is already telling me about it. Too much time on my feet. Judy of course, had to come help me. We worked on the gates for a couple of hours. They were in bad shape. One gate was an old one made of oak my Daddy made. It needs a little love and can be reused. I am gonna put it up at the house. Got it done and the fence repaired. So now they are contained 🙂 Red’s former owner came by to see him today. He was happy to see him. I hope I can get to groom both my mudballs this week. They need it so badly.
The reunion is Sat morning, breakfast, and it is only a few of us who are wanting to get together. Some who never came to the reunions. So not that bad. I am sorry you are struggling so bad with this stuff. It will be good for you to get out. ANd you need the PT. Hang in there ….love ya
        Tonie

  26. Hi all
Well I’m at the coast.and still on my diet !
Trying to be good.after the first three days it gets easier for me..got to do it for the summer..my clothes won’t fit me
Got some good books to read
Just had a shower and got salad for tonight
    Tomorrow a stir fry
On Friday our anniversary .we will go out if it’s fine for the day..if not we’ll have something from the Chinese …..diet still tho
We thought if it was nice as it can be then..we would take a throwaway BBQ and have buy some fish and bbq by one of the creeks.and let the day go by…..in the morning on that day here there is a partial eclipse,so that’ll be interesting
    Sue
    Glad the cramps are easing
    Tonie
    What a sh.t of a dentist
Enjoy your reunion …the only girl…….
    Well gonna do a meal
    Chris

    • Chris, All sounds great. Good for you with the diet. It is a great motivation when clothing is too tight. All the food you mentioned sounds great. Enjoy the BBQ and the eclipse dear friend. Overcast today in Oregon. At least that wretched wind is gone. Over the weekend we had wind of 50mph and gusts even greater. Scary when it shakes this old house. Yes, cramps better. Keep enjoying, okay? Love, Sue

  27. Chris:
Good for you on the diet. I had on a pair of jeans today that kept trying to fall down on my hips ! I was so happy !! 🙂 I am going to try to get up early and go to Tai Chi class in the am I have done some alone, but never in a class. Enjoy your BBQ and Happy Anniversary. How many years ? We are getting a cold front coming thru, rain, and yuk for the next week or so. I will be glad when it stays warm. I am planning on making the trip out towards Tenn, and look at some mobile homes at a place in Abingdon. I haven’t been there in years. There is a theater there called “Barter Theater”. It was established many years ago and people paid for their tickets thru “barter”. So many old stars played there in the past” Robert Mitchum, was one I remember. Maybe I will stop in while i am out there. I want to go to a play there soon. I saw Romeo and Juliet there the first time.
    Well, enjoy your day !
    Love
    Tonie

  28. Hello, everyone, my apologies for not checking in again until today. I can’t put a finger on why, but it seems I’m every so much busier and the day is over before I know it! My heart goes out to all as I read about your challenges the past several days. Thankfully, there are some bright spots as well. Busy as I seem to be, I’m holding up ok. The usual ups and downs, as we all know. Yes, the pup keeps me on my toes! She demands a lot from me – time and energy – but is so darned sweet, I don’t mind. In fact, she pushes me to take care of myself, which is probably a good thing. Sometime this week my guys need to take the carpet off the stairway. Next week we are scheduled to have the stair treads prepped, stained, and risers painted, spindles touched up. We’re going “au natural”. I’m hoping it will help me with cleaning and look at whole lot better. I think I mentioned it before. DH said he’ll get it done this weekend, I shouldn’t worry about it. 🙂 I also have a birthday coming up next week, so it’ll almost be like a birthday present to have them done. 🙂 All here are doing alright, although SB sprained his ankle last Tuesday and has been hobbling around since. It is slowly getting better, but he refused to listen to his momma or sister’s recommendation to ice and elevate it. Silly boy. He seems to be doing well in his new job. I’m not sure if I mentioned he is now working at a local Hyundai dealership selling cars. He seems to be enjoying it. I’ve lost track of how many cars he’s sold. He isn’t’ always forthcoming. 😉 He still works a day – this week two – at the hotel. He is saving up for a car. He also keeps looking at apartment ads. He says if he had a roommate, he could probably afford to move out. For now, I’m happy to have him home.
Time to feed the kitties. They are “reminding” me. Blessings, one and all.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I made my first Irish Soda Bread and an appropriate soup/stew today in observance. 🙂

    • Lyn, Yes, we have missed you but know life is busy and full for you. You’re always such a grand example of keeping yourself fit and the role it plays in our chronic battle. So, it sounds like SB has officially entered the citadel of manhood; not forthcoming, won’t take advice from the “women,” etc. Hope his sprained ankle gets better quickly. Those sprains can be slow in healing.
Hope your stairs are fixed and looking lovely very quickly and with little inconvenience to you except the much expected dust, etc. You’ll be busy vacuuming, but hopefully not the stairs. Hope you enjoy the beauty of the wood.
Is Sadie excited about spring? I’ll bet she is frisky and knows it’s on the air. Her little nose probably tells her. Sounds like the kitties are getting on with her and life is interesting. It should never be dull and with our critters, it never is.
You sound good and pray that is so. Love, Sue

      • Sue, ah yes, citadel of manhood. That does describe it well. The boy’s sprain seems to be healing. As for the stairs, the wood would be more beautiful if we were to change it out, but I’m not willing to spend the $ to put new treads on right now. Just regular pine treads on there now. But my Mom’s look pretty good, so I’m hopeful. Anything will look better than old carpet. 🙂
Sadie is excited to be outside – period. She is enjoying the weather, but really enjoyed the snow, too, so she’s easily pleased. Lily only puts up with so much from her, Aria hides when necessary, and Rufus is very tolerant. He puts up with more than he should. I try to watch out for him. Sadie doesn’t mean to be rough but is just so much bigger. I don’t think she realizes, and forgets and gets excited. No, it’s never dull. Yes, I’m doing pretty well.
DD is getting ready for starting her additional schooling in fall. She picked up new highlighters, a planner, and contacted her advisor to see what courses she should schedule when. I’d like to offer to help her a bit with her funding, but don’t know if the boy will be heading back or not. I doubt it, but… I also saw a few classes I’d like to take. I’ll have to wait. I hope you are continuing to feel at least a little bit better. Every little bit helps. I can’t imagine how frustrated and downhearted you must feel at times. But know we are all in your corner. You are definitely a fighter! I hope you were able to have a good visit with your DD. 🙂 I’m sure it always does wonders.

  29. Good morning all:
Lyn, I do understand how time goes by. My animals keep me hopping as well. SO glad all is well on your home front. The time when they move out is bittersweet at best. So enjoy him while he is still there. I think you will like the stairs better without the carpet. It does make it easier to clean for sure. AHH projects, I love em !
Ms Baby is still not playing well with others at feeding time, but I kept her tied up again this morning. And as soon as I let her go…off she goes to see what Red has left ! Miss Piggy ! SO spoiled and jealous. I guess had I been starved like her I might be as well.
I had intended to go to Tai Chi, however, the restless night I spent wouldn’t alow me to get up at 6:30 😦 I am still tired but must get going. I have to go check on the house today and collect the mail. Stopping off at the Lowe’s store to look at outdoor buildings. They have one I think I will get to put all my schtuff in. Then another stop at a place that sells larger buildings to see if it is gonna be less expensive to make a barn out of a metal shed than to try and build one from scratch. AWW the ways to spend money 🙂
And of course a stop by the grocery store to get the mustard and ketchup that I have forgotten (even though it was on a LIST) the last two times I have gone out.
It has chilled off here now for the next week, so it says. 29′ this am at feeding time. BRRRR ! Go away Old Man WInter and leave us in peace !!
Please everyone have a blessed day
    Love
    Tonie
ps had to catch an escaped baby chickie this am, she had gotten big enough to jump out of the crate.

    • Tonie, Baby reminds me of George who is also a jealous, albeit much smaller creature. He’s terrible with Jakey and always has to clean up the last of Jake’s dinner, although there is usually not much left. Jake is so think and frail in spite of eating like a horse twice a day. I’m afraid George suffers from a Napoleonic complex…thinks he’s pit bull.
So it being with the chicks. How is Rufus? I don’t remember your saying if he pulled out of his bad health or not.
It seems like you are always on the go. Hope you’re doing and feeling better. Good for you to get the fence and gate fixed. How fun to have a gate your Dad had built. Those things, whether they be jewels or wood have such special meaning, don’t they? Sentiment if such a part of life or maybe for me it’s more so as I grow older. Enjoy your day dear girl. Love, Sue

      • Sue:
The chickens are doing good. THe Widdies are getting so big, I will have to put them outside soon. I got 3 more red hens yesterday. SO tiny beside the others. They are trying to escape, I had to put two back in this am. I will have to put some netting on the crate to keep them in. Rufus got better, PTL ! I tell him all the time that prayer healed him, so he should say “thanks” 🙂 Yes, it seems to me I am always on the go these days. I am so tired today…no going today. I have a couple of things to do inside. Raining and cool outside so nothing there. Being lazy this am…me n the boys. We fed, and I fed them, gave them an egg with some worm meds. Also some coconut oil, I hear it is so good for them, so I am trying it out.
Yes, I love finding things my Daddy worked on or made. I see bits of him all over, and my Mother in Judy’s house (which is the home place). They are never really gone huh ?
Take care my dear friend. I must call you to catch up soon.
        Love
        Tonie

    • Tonie, I’m tired of Old Man Winter, too. Now potential wintry weather on Friday here. Ugh. Good news, It shouldn’t amount to much thanks to the temps lately. Building shopping, eh? Fun, fun. Yes, there are so many ways of spending money, aren’t there? We have jealousy here, too. Sadie is jealous of anyone getting attention, Lily is jealous, Rufus and Aria not so much. Rufus will eat others’ food often. We have to gather the girls’ food when they are done. Sadie leaves nothing for anyone! A true dog. 🙂 I am enjoying having the kids while I do. Although I wish they would be more responsible with the few things we require of them…
Oh boy, escaping chicks already! Congrats on the weight loss!

      • Lyn:
Good luck on the responsibility thing 🙂 I had a deal with mine, if they kept their room doors shut, we would have no problem, if open….well the rage of Mama was not pretty ! Yes, we are getting rain today, possible wintry mix tomorrow 😦 I got some chicken wire yesterday to put around the dog pen so I can keep the baby chicks there until they are big enough to put in the main pen. But can’t put them in there until it warms up. It will be here probably after Easter huh ?
        Take care
        Tonie

  30. Tonie
It’s a good feeling when your clothes feel lose on you
That theatre sounds interesting and different
Well had scrambled eggs for today..changed menu..and made a veg stew for tomorrow .went for a slow walk around the site and be nosey, looking at what was what everywhere
Well new tv gone wrong..subtitles stopped working for DH….gas .well, got none it must have leaked ..got them coming out tomorrow morning
So no heating or hot water
    typical stuff going wrong!
    In bed with wheat bags
Man for sealants on dble glazing coming out tomorrow too
    All go!
Gonna get to sleep!! Cold ish and gotta be up early when it all starts
    Chris

    • Poor Chris:
It all hits you at once donit ? No one or two at a time, everything hits n then is over. Hope you are getting it all sorted out today. We have rain today and colder temps, so I am forced to rest and behave. I was exhausted last night after running all day again. But this too shall pass.
I do hope DH gets the TV righted so he can get the CC going. I have such a fear of loosing my hearing and my sight. Bad hearing is all around me, but so far I am ok. My brother is terrible, well both of them and Judy. I am hoping it skips me 🙂 How is DD and GS ? I take it Dad is ok ? You haven’t said of late.
      Do have a good day
      Tonie

  31. Hi All, just jumping in for a few minutes. Tonie glad You got the pasture separated. I saw the picture of Judy helping you. I thought that was nice. So Baby still isn’t quite sure about Red? Well she is going to make sure if there are leftovers she gets them. I hope you are able to find you a home you want real soon. Going to TN to look. Do you have someone to go with you? That would be nice unless you want to do it by yourself. Still no tag yet. I went to the HWY Patrol this morning and got a waiver for the emission because I have spent so much money trying to fix it and have had multiple rejections. Took it back to my guy and he didn’t clear the computer out and put the waiver code in then it wouldn’t take it saying that number had already been used. He called me around 6:15 this evening and asked me to bring it back up there tomorrow that the emissions supervisor told him what to do. If it doesn’t work I will have to go back to the HWY Patrol early Friday morning for a new waiver. They are only there from 8:00 until 10:00 AM Mon. Wed. and Fri. If nothing else it has kept me moving going from place to place and loading and unloading my walker and oxygen tank. So a little prayer please.
Chris, glad you are back at the shed but sorry you are having so many problems. Sounds like my day. Pray it all gets fixed tomorrow. After that I hope you have a good rest of the week and weekend.
Sue, hi, hope things are looking up for you. So glad your cramps are better. I would have been a little spooked out myself with 50MPH winds. Glad the wind has calmed down. It is supposed to be cool and rainy for the next few days. It was 80 degrees here yesterday. Beautiful!
Lyn, glad to see you on here. Is your snow melting? I wonder what Sadie likes the most , snow or grass. I bet she doesn’t care as long as it is outside. So sorry your SB sprained his ankle. Quite painful I am sure. A sprain is worse than a break sometimes. Take care all.
Jennie, are you okay? I haven’t seen you on this blog at all. I hope you are doing ok.
Has anyone heard from Jennie? She did post on Facebook March 15 th. That is the last time. She hasn’t been on this last blog at all. Love all of you. Chat soon. Love, Donna

  32. Donna, good hearing from you! 80 degrees! Oh, how I’d love that! You’re right, Sadie doesn’t seem to mind as long as she’s outside. 🙂 She doesn’t care for rain a lot, but wants outside otherwise. Our snow is melted now, but we may get some more Friday, although it shouldn’t really amount to anything. 1″ – 4 “, but we’ll see.

Well, everyone, hello! SB just got home a bit ago and said he sold a car today pretty much because a girl was attracted to him. We said, “Hey, whatever it takes!” Haha! He is an attractive young man. 😉 Well, time for me to change into a pumpkin. My old “friend” fatigue has made a pit stop today, so I must sign off. Hopefully it won’t last long. That’s ok. I was due. Take care, everyone!

    • Lyn, yes you definitely have a salesman in SB. That’s pretty impressive for a young man his age. Probably enjoys those commissions and will make the hourly wage look less inviting. Does he enjoy selling? Being cute can’t hurt.
Pleased as I know you are, that DD is planning to resume her classes, or are they new ones. She will find her way but the waiting is sometimes worrisome, I’m sure. I hope she’s heading for a goal that brings her fulfillment.
Well, it sounds like Sadie is going to have some fresh snow to romp in this weekend. She’s such a sweetheart and has obviously brought you all so much love. She’s is another sweet example of how much joy and love we get from our four footed ones. Hope you got that much needed rest to rid you of fatigue. Love you, Sue

  33. HELLO….JUST TO SAY I AM STILL ALIVE AND KICKING….JUST, TAKEN A CONFIDENCE BASHING THESE LAST TWO WEEKS, AND I DIDN’T WANT TO DUMP IT ON EVERYONE, JUST COULDN’T TALK ABOUT IT, I WAS SO DEPRESSED.
MY LOVELY OLD MUM NEVER GOT THE CHOCOLATE FOR HER MOTHER’S DAY, I TRIED EVERY WHICH WAY TO TRACE THE PARCEL, BUT WITHOUT A TRACKING NUMBER ITS IMPOSSIBLE……BUMMER!!
SCARED TO DEATH THE HOUSE WON’T SELL AGAIN THIS YEAR, JUST HAVEN’T GOT THE ENERGY TO KEEP GOING WITH IT NOW….DH FEELS THE SAME.
HAD A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE WITH THE BANK, DID A TRANSFER CASH FROM UK TO FRANCE, AND IT DIDN’T COME THROUGH EVEN TOUGH IT LEFT THE UK……SORTED IT IN THE END WITH THE BANK MANAGER, BUT THE STRESS GAVE ME A MIGRAINE WHICH I STILL HAVE, AND I FEEL TEARFUL ALL THE TIME.
TIM HAS SOLD HIS BEAUTIFUL HOUSE, TAKEN OUT ANOTHER MORTGAGE AND BOUGHT A LITTLE DO-IT-UP, HE AND CLAIRE WILL HAVE TO LIVE IN IT IF THE BUYERS NEED TO MOVE QUICKLY, AND THE ROOF ISN’T FIXED YET…..ALL THIS WORRY IS NOT DOING MY HEALTH ANY GOOD, AND THERE IS NO-ONE TO TURN TO, I CAN’T BURDEN MY MOM AFTER ALL SHE HAS BEEN THROUGH…….SO ITS JUST ME AND MY DH TYING TO GET BY BEST WE CAN……OH DEAR JUST READ THIS BACK, A PROPER TALE OF WOE……..SORRY ABOUT THAT, BUT I SAW DONNA ASKING WHERE I WAS, SO IT WASN’T RIGHT NOT TO SAY…….THANKS FOR LISTENING, LOVE YOU ALL………………….JENNIE XXXXXXXXX

    • Dear Jennie, many heartfelt prayers going to you and your dear DH. Sometimes things do seem to just pile on. Please take care of yourself. Lots of love, Janet

      • THANK YOU JANET…YES YOU ARE SO RIGHT, THINGS DO PILE UP, BUT I AM TRYING TO PLOUGH THROUGH IT ALL, THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS, ITS SO KIND OF YOU……LOVE JENNIE X

    • Jennie:
You know we are all here for you. This is where I unburden myself the most. There are things I talk to Ya’all about that I don’t even with my sister 🙂 I am home alone, so my animals hear the most of my woes, poor things. You do need to stop trying to fix everything you can’t. We really have no control over anything except our conduct. Put it all in His hands and pray for His will to be done. Hard to do, but once you do it, you feel such relief. After all , isn’t He the one we can trust with it all. I do pray , in Jesus name that you sell your home this year and that the person who gets it will love it as you have, and that you get the place you need. Now after that “run on ” sentence, I will say so long.
      Love
      Tonie

      • TONIE…YES I KNOW YOU ARE ALL HERE FOR ME, AND I KNOW I SHOULD TALK MORE ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON, I SUPPOSE I WORRY THAT YOU ALL HAVE BIGGER PROBLEMS THAN I DO, AND IT MAKES ME FEEL GUILTY FOR DUMPING ON YOU….I SHALL DO MY BEST TO RECTIFY THAT IN FUTURE…….I BET YOUR ANIMALS LOVE IT WHEN YOU TALK TO THEM, THEY ARE SUCH SENSITIVE CREATURES, AND SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO JUDGE THE MOODS. THANKS FOR SENDING ALL THE JOKES BY THE WAY…IT HELPS….LOVE JENNIE X

      • Tonie, I’m over joyed that you feel like you can open your heart on here. We all care about you, always. Sue

    • Jennie, yes it is a bit of a tale of woe but we each have those times. I’m so pleased to hear about Tim and Claire selling their house. As for you, those stress migraines are the worst. Hope it’s easing up at this time for you. The bank business sounds like it would freak out any one of us. Glad that has worked out.
I am sorry to hear you are a worrier. It simply takes its toll on us and when it comes to our kids, it is hard to not fall into the trap however, they have to learn to live their own lives. That’s part of the magic of being an adult. I’m sure Tim would worry if he knew you were in a state of severe worry over him.
I also hope, like all on here, that your house sells this year or that you find a way to live more simply. As each of us are aging, have failing health problems, etc. we do also understand. Surely, in time, it will happen. It took us four years to sell our house in CA when we moved here. Then one day, it sold. Hoping the same for you. Sorry about your Mom’s package. Why not send her another? Registered this time? Do take care. Life can really bury us sometimes so I’m wishing you wings to escape and a care free heart. Take heart in spring and let it bring you new life. Love, Sue

  34. Well, my DVD/VHS player has finally given up the ghost. It is about 15 years old, so I really got the useage of it. Now I have to find a replacement that is not astronomically out there 🙂 THis one records and I want another one like it. So the search goes on. I had to order me some more arthritic gloves last night. My hands are so achy and swollen from working with them. I refuse to stop doing things, so I have to find a way to work around it. Story of our lives huh ? This rain is causing my TMJ and face muscles to ache. I am living for the sunny days when I can hold up my face and drink it all in !
I pray you all have a wonderful day.
    Love you all
    Tonie

    • Tonie, sorry about your player recorder. It may be hard to find anywhere but at Amazon.com. It seems no one is making video players. We still have many and hope our old player hangs in there also. The good news is that there are so many reasonably priced DVD players available. That whole technology business as changed so much, hasn’t it?
Yeppers, you’re right. We stubborn ones have to get around our chores and pleasures as best we can and often, that entails changing methods. Just promise me you’ll do your best to watch the lifting. I worry about your back, shoulders and gut. Love to hear about the new chicks and relieved to hear your rooster, Rufus survived. Hopefully you’ll get that trap set for the critter that killed your other chickens. Hope the current cold snap eases and you are able to get on with enjoying spring. I’m excited for you to get a new mobile home and pray for you to find one you LOVE and can afford. As ever, Sue

      • Sue:
I found one on Amazon, it will be here next week (wasn’t prime, but still free shipping) THe VHS player still works, but not the DVD. The tray will not eject, so I can’t use it. I have coaxed it along for a while now. Maybe Goodwill can fix it up. I do watch the lifting. Like with the hay, I lift it and then carry it on my knees. Next week I will go and look at homes. I did stop to chop pricing on a metal barn vs building a shed, so I am putting that at the back of the home. Love the horses but my shelter comes first.
        Love ya
        Tonie

  35. OH JENNIE POO, SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU. YOU ARE GOING THROUGH LOTS BUT WE ARE ALWAYS HERE TO LISTEN AND MANY PEOPLE WITH LOTS OF KNOWLEDGE HERE THAT CAN SOMETIMES HELP US.

    • Chris, I guess we have to count and appreciate the good days as they come…one day at a time. I am sorry to hear DH’s B/P is still troubling him. Not good. As far as your dear Dad, it sounds like he is just hanging in there. I know that must be so frustrating for you to not be able to communicate with him and then to have DH have a hearing deficit. Oh life, it can push us around a bit. I think your DH having the photography skills is so wonderful as an outlet for him. Do take care and glad to see things are going forward at the beach house. Hope you got the TV CC straightened out for DH. Much love, Sue

    • Jennie, So good to hear you’re hanging in there and perking up a bit. So what if it takes three glasses of the red stuff and getting out of the house to do it. I pray for you to have the move, the buyer and a new wonderful place to live. Sorry to hear about Claire’s job search but she sounds like such a bright young woman, I’m sure she’ll find something, don’t you think? Glad you got another gift off to your Mom. Now, the old one that is lost will probably show up and she’ll have two.
I love that British term “tarting” up. It says so much so completely. Hope the weather is on your side as I know your garden is glorious in the spring and should help sell the house. I agree with Chris and can assure you, knowing you as I do, that your house is ready to show and sell. Much love, Sue

      • HI SUE……I AM BEING A BIT NAUGHTY REALLY, WRITING ON HERE WHILST THE VIEWERS ARE LOOKING ROUND THE CELLAR AND THE GARDEN…SEEM TO LIKE WHAT THEY SEE SO FAR….BUT IT COULD BE THEY ARE BEING POLITE…..WON’T KNOW FOR A FEW DAYS.
YES I CERTAINLY ENJOYED THE MEAL OUT, AND FOR ONCE I DIDN’T GET A HEADACHE WITH THE RED WINE., BIG BONUS.
YES IT WAS A SHAME ABOUT CLAIRE NOT GETTING THE JOB, SHE CHOSE TO BRANCH AWAY FROM LAW, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A P.A. IN AN ACADEMY, PERSONALLY, I THINK THE TIMING WASN’T RIGHT, BEST TO GET MONEY COMING IN TO FINANCE OTHER THINGS RIGHT NOW.
AM I READING THIS RIGHT FROM CHRIS, YOU ARE GETTING A BEACH HOUSE, OR IS IT ME GETTING STUFF WRONG AGAIN?? HOPE ITS TRUE, IT WOULD DO YOU THE POWER OF GOOD TO BE ABLE TO SIT BY THE SEA.
HOPE THE WEEKEND IS GOOD FOR YOU….LOVE YOU…JEN X

  41. Jen your meal sounds lovely
    The cooking of it ,conversation…great
what a bu..er for claire…..but maybe for Now it was best for them.,they didn’t have to make a choice..less pressure for now…and for you, less worry
Just take it all in stages,it seems to be getting somewhere positive in its own time
    Sue
That’s sooo good getting out,PT and driving.so pleased to read that
Well yep got heating on yesterday ,the site man came and fixed it
Had an easy day today. And we met a local!! DH out with camera for the eclipse ,her house In the next road in village and she came up to us and chatted have her email to send eclipse photo to…I like getting to know people from the houses here and she invited us to her place
Mind you DH could have done without the listening it puts up his bp
Sue …a beach house..that sounds grand, maybe I should call it that …but it’s about 1/4. Mile fromthe sea
But I like the sound of it!
    Janet
How’s the car going..all a blimmin nuisence for you
Oh yes got tv sorted too
So had a nice anniversary ,light lunch …not planned BBQ ..not right for today..but it was nice and sunny
at a place we always go to by seA
    Chris

    • Chris, I like the sound of beach house, also. So what’s wrong with sounding fancy? So many folks would give anything to be that close to the sea. Enjoy and I’m glad you got the TV fixed with some ease…it sounds like. It’s been so good for you having a lovely place to go to get away.
How fine to meet a neighbor. You both are digging in over there and that’s so healthy and happy.
I had a sleepless night due to a rude neighbor who has been nothing but trouble for us. His latest complaint is that our heater vent on the outside of the house is too loud for his renters and they can’t sleep. The new heater has been in there since 2008 and now he’s complaining. He’s been a jerk for the 17 years we’ve lived here and he lives in Portland and is only out here about once a month and rents out the bottom apartment. UGH> Well, we had a city inspector come out today and he thought the complaint was ridiculous and wasn’t anywhere near the offensive level for sound. Relief.
Hope DH is better today. I’m worried about Jim as he is working too hard but won’t listen to his wife…me. Had a sick grandson today with me. If I stay away from them when they’re sick…well, this winter I’d never see them between me and them.
Enjoy your weekend dear girl. Love, Sue

    • CHRIS….YES IT WAS A NICE MEAL, SHOULD DO IT MORE OFTEN……LIKE IN THE UK, ITS VERY COLD, BUYERS IN THE GARDEN LOOKING IN DH’S GREENHOUSE, HE WILL PROBABLY SEND THEM OFF WITH SOME PLANTS KNOWING HIM.
SO GLAD YOU GOT THE HEATING FIXED, TOO COLD FOR YOU WITHOUT……GLAD YOU ARE MAKING SOME NEW FRIENDS TOO.
YOU TOO HAD A NICE LUNCH, AND YES A BBQ IS A BIT OPTIMISTIC……GOT A FEW MORE DAYS OF THIS YET, THEN WHAM!! IMPROVING…..COUPLE JUST LEFT, LIKED THE HOUSE BUT OFF TO SEE SOME MORE NOW, SO WON’T HOLD MY BREATH….HAVE A GOOD REST PET, REGARDS TO DH….LOVE JEN X

  42. Morning all:
QUick entry before I head out to join the boys from my graduating class at school. WE are meeting for breakfast and some chatter. I must stick a Chiclet in my gap:)
Chris did you see the eclipse yesterday ? I watched it on BBC !! SUch awesomeness the Lord gives us huh ?
When I get back today I must put the chicken wire around the dog pen. I have to put the big chicks out, they are big enough to be outside now. Then i have the 3 little ones for another week or so. It is so fun to just watch them.
Jennie, so glad that the house sold. I know that they are happier.
Please take care all and have a wonderful day.
    Love
    Tonie

    • TONIE…YOU ARE A CAUTION, I STICK CHICLETS IN MY GAP ALSO……I HAVE A TERRIBLE GOINGS ON WITH CHEWING GUM, MY SON TAKES AFTER ME TOO, WHEN ITS STILL GOT FLAVOUR, IT GETS PUT ON THE CAR DASHBOARD IF I AM EATING OUT, JUST GOT TO KNOW ITS THERE FOR WHEN I COME BACK TO THE CAR, SOMETIMES STUCK IT IN MY COFFEE SAUCER, FORGOTTEN IT WAS THERE AND IT WENT IN THE DISHWASHER. TIM IS WORSE THAT ME, HE STICKS HIS BEHIND HIS EAR IF HE IS IN THE PUB, FOR LATER HA HA!! SHOCKING HABIT REALLY.
YES THE KIDS ARE DELIGHTED THEIR HOUSE HAS SOLD, TAKES A WHILE TO SORT IT OUT THOUGH.
WE DIDN’T SEE THE ECLIPSE EXCEPT LIKE YOU ON TV, BUT IT WENT REALLY DARK WHEN WE WERE SHOPPING AND EVERYTHING SEEMED STRANGELY STILL.
HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR BREAKFAST WITH THE BOYS….HMMM!!!!! LOVE JENNIE

    • Tonie, Hope your outing and sharing all those memories went well. Bet they all had some interesting stories to tell about you. What were you like in HS? Fingers crossed for the chicks as they go out. Hope that varmint is long gone or soon will be. Later, Sue

  43. Jen…noooooooo
Sue and I were weighing up calling the shed that name….bit grand innit…but hey ho
Hope the visit went good…I’m always at a loss what to do when they come around

Oh dear my diet….went to town and the icecream shop where they make there own has opened for the summer
So many flavours apparently some people bring their home grown fruit there to make it as well
So had some there and got some for the freezer…..bu..er innit!
    Tonie
Wonder how the reunion went toothless!?!😄
And yea we saw the eclipse…we are just one small bit of it all aren’t we…
    Chris

    • VISIT WENT OK, BUT I GOT THE FEELING THE GUY DIDN’T LIKE THE GARAGE, COS ITS DOWN THE DRIVE AND HE WOULD HAVE TO REVERSE IN…….BUMMER. ICECREAM IS MY WEAKNESS TOO, AND TODAY I ATE HALF AN EASTER EGG WITH MY DH,,,SO MY DIET GONE FOR A BURTON TOO….SOD IT, I AM SO NOT IN THE MOOD……I MIGHT STICK MY CHEWIE ON THE BEDPOST TONIGHT….WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT??
ANYWAY WHAT FLAVOUR YOU HAVING ???…………….LOVE JEN XX

      • Jennie, You know buying a home is really such an emotional experience. Someday a couple will show up who will over look a couple of things they don’t like but be overwhelmed by the charm, the garden and the hominess of it all. I’m sure. Honestly you guys all talking about ice cream has me so hungry. Jim and I need to go shopping tomorrow. I’m not even a big fan of ice cream and now I want some. Don’t think I feel well enough to go shopping by myself yet. I confess I”m having a terrible time doing the exercises PT gave me. Didn’t realize how much ground I’ve lost in recent months. It’s a bummer. Hang on sweet friend, bake some cookies each time somebody comes to see and smell the house and someone will fall in love. Sue

      • “Does you chewing gum loose it’s flavor on the bedpost overnight” ? some old song my mother used to sing to me, cause I did the same thing Jennie:) I can’t chew it now cause of the TMJ being so bad.
Okay…now what is “Gone for a Burton ?” That one I have never heard before. I can figure out what you mean, but where did that come from ? University of Virginia soccer team went to England to practice for like a month, and they had the boys on video sitting in a HUGE Victorian chair, and they were saying stuff with a Brit accent, soccer talk like you say , it was hilarious !!
        Praying for the house sell
        Love
        Tonie

    • Yes Chris, there is nothing like an eclipse to make us realize we are truly only one bit of it all; but an important bit, huh? Sue

  44. Sue
Forgot to say about this neighbour
Well what a pain in the neck..am glad the inspection went ok…and hope this shuts him up
And the renter too….i hope this brings about more peace for you now.that must have been hanging over you both
Yea isn’t winter a bind with all these viruses ..and even if you keep away from all you still get them!
Well DH is ok but pulse all over the place with even his heartbeat ablated and the pacemaker in.so it is prob a trip to the heart hosp …it’s always been ok for years..but he is now on meds very small dose tho
    Bp still high..its a concern
Got a joint of beef for tomorrow.roast pots and parsnip,
And of ofcouse the icecream…….if it’s still there😄

    • Chris dear, this neighbor is the biggest pain in the ass neighbor we have ever had. I had to tell him off a few years back and he backed off for awhile but he always finds something to complain about. Since he lives in Portland and not here I cringe when I see hi white truck parked out in front of his place. You should see the mess his place is in. The inspector was very interested in it just looking over our fence onto it. He’s had the back off the lower level of the house for at least a year with a tarp over it. It’s one of those ancient houses that is not charming and never could be. It’s had too many bad renovations, poor old thing. We could complain about it being a neighborhood nuisance but don’t want any more trouble with this jerk. It’s a shame about the house because it has a better view than we do and sits in the way of our view except for the front and back porches on our home. I think some people are so miserable it just kind of overflows in all directions.
Your roast and potatoes with carrots sounds very good. Do you make Yorkshire pudding or is that just some idea we have about the English? I agree and understand your concern about DH and his heart. It will be good to see how it works out for him and we all pray for an easy solution. I don’t like hearing his heart rate is all over the place…not good. Was hoping the lower dose of B/P meds would bring that down for him.
Do take care of yourself and all. Know you’re in our thoughts. Sue

  45. Hi all, glad things are looking up a little for most of you. Still no tag yet. Found out yesterday that the inspector from Wednesday gave me the wrong waiver. Now I have to get one more test on Monday in order to get the right waiver. Oh well what are you gonna do. You are at the mercy of the HWY Patrol inspector.
Chris, I do love the name beach house. Sounds so peaceful. Sounds like you are having a good time. Food sounds good too.
Tonie, hope your breakfast turned out ok. You and the boys. Glad the new chicks are growing and doing good. Don’t work too hard I.

    • Tonie, I was trying to say don’t work too hard today. My Kindle Fire decided I was through and sent it before I was finished.
Sue, so glad everything turned out ok with the inspector. Also glad you get to spend some time with your GS. Hope he gets better quickly. I got the results back of my tumor marker blood work and it was down, 31, in the normal range so no scans needed. Checking it again in 6 weeks. Praise God!
Jennie, it is so good to have you back on here and sounding so good. I will continue to pray that your house sales soon and you find a perfect place for you and your DH. Have a good weekend.
I hurt so bad last night I thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room. I changed the setting on my car seat for more comfort and being able to see better. Wrong thing to do. I really paid for it last night. I am going to try and get it back where I had it to start with. I feel much better so far today. Stayed in bed a little longer this morning. Don’t want to make a habit of this. I will know more of how my back and hip feels once I go downstairs. LOVE and Hugs to all, Donna

      • Donna, good news about your tumor marker being down. I’m sure that is a relief. Boy, you sure have had a time with the car inspections. Let’s hope this time is the charm. Isn’t it interesting how some small change can affect us so much, as your car seat, since we are so “fragile.” Hopefully it’s a muscle and will clear up quickly for you. We each have so many muscles that we favor and others we ignore and when we decide to use them…wowsa!!
Take care and know I admire your patience with the car. You must really love that van. Fondly, Sue

      • Donna, glad you are getting that taken care of. ANd yes, had a great time this morning, will post on it.
        Love
        Tonie

      • HI DONNA….WISH I COULD SAY THE HOUSE GOT SOLD YESTERDAY, BUT THE COUPLE WERE VERY PICKY, THEY PUT YOU THROUGH THE MILL, ASKING THIS AND THAT, AND YOU JUST KNOW THEY ARE GOING TO FIND SOMETHING THEY DON’T LIKE…SHAME THOUGH I KIND OF LIKED THEM…EVEN GAVE THEM TEA AND BISCUITS.
I HOPE YOUR PAIN IS A BIT BETTER TODAY SWEETS, IS THERE SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP YOU ADJUST THE SEAT FOR YOU?….NOTHING WRONG WITH STAYING IN BED A BIT LONGER SOME DAYS LOVE, ITS YOUR BODY’S WAY OF TELLING YOU TO REST UP……..LOVE YOU BIG….JENNIE XX

  46. OH DONNA YOU ARE SO KIND THINKING OF EVERYONE. PLEASE TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF ALSO. HOPE YOU CAN GET THE SETTING ON YOUR CAR SEAT BACK TO WHAT THEY WERE. ALWAYS NICE TO STAY IN BED A LITTLE WHILE LONGER. LOVE AND HUGS TO YOU SWEET DARLING.
    GOD BLESS
    XXX

  47. Evening all:
Sitting here having my supper of green grapes, a bit of cheese and some jalapeno pretzel crisps. Well the day has been very busy and hectic. I left way too early this am, and so stopped in a little hardware store on the way there to check it out. Glad I did, close to me, and carries all the stuff you might need. EVEN equine stuff. I bought a rope halter and lead. They have an Aussie saddle in there I would give my eye teeth for (I still have them ). It is around 100 years old and in fab shape. THey want $500 for it 😦
WEll, I wasn’t the only gal there today. there were two more, and they ran with the “upper crust” in school, not my gang. And 40 years later nothing has changed, not much said to me, sat with one of the men they were friends with and pretty much ignored me. 🙂 Not that my feelings were hurt , by no means. I just thought it was funny that some people never change. I talked my head off to two or three of the guys, drank too much coffee, which made me talk even more. It was very nice to see them, but so strange to hear them talking about , arthritis, and medicare, etc. Made me laugh..I hadn’t seen them since graduation !
To answer your question Sue, I was a JOCK in HS. And a musician, played in the band, Piano for choir. I was pretty much friends with everyone, yet didn’t really hang out with anyone much. I was a good student, but spoke out when I thought something was wrong. Never was shy 🙂 Haven’t really changed all that much.
Well, got the chicks outside, they thought it was awesome 🙂 , groomed both horses, and put together my tiller. I am sitting on my heating pad now. My back is really getting worse and I hate it. I cut some of Baby’s tail hair off and made me a braided horsehair bracelet. I am going to make one of Reds’ as well. I think I will make his Daddy one to have as a keepsake.
Well, ladies, I have run off at the mouth again !! Take care and sleep well.
    Love
    Tonie

    • Tonie, it is interesting how some people never change. Sometimes, don’t you think, people get in a comfortable groove and don’t move far or really do that much outside their sphere. You are well traveled and I’ll bet it was an interesting walk down memory lane for you. Yes, I know that feeling as the subject matter changes as we grow old. Sounds like you got everything accomplished at home. Bracelets huh? Interesting. You are such a horse girl. Never had a horse friend before. I think it’s in your genes, huh? What a sweet idea to make Red former owner a bracelet. Sorry to hear about your back. Can you let it rest a few days? Rest tonight, anyway. Love, Sue

      • Sue:
Well woke up at 4, and here I am, my company, my entertainment 🙂 The muscle relaxers and the heat on my back have helped I believe. It is not really a matter of resting it, it is everyday life that is intruding. I think the disc that is slowly going away is going more 🙂
Yep horses are in my blood. I have been in love with them all my life. Read every book, saw every movie, and went to every show in the area. The love of my life, and they have never let me down, unlike men.
The guy who got the thing together (also paid for all our food) told me he observed the same from the gals. But he thanked me for just being me. Wants to get together and bring his wife, thinks she will enjoy my company as well. He is a retired police officer for the town of Mt Airy North Carolina. Andy Griffith’s “Mayberry”. He has a rare form of cancer, carcinoid neuroendocrine tumors. His wife became a nurse just so she could take care of him.
Anyway, interesting how people’s lives turn out. Another guy there was also a retired officer. Neither one of them would I have thought to go that route.
        Hope you are resting.
        Love
        Tonie

    • TONIE…..YES I REMEMBER THE SONG RE-CHEWING GUM VERY WELL, BIG HIT IN THE UK…..THE PHRASE “GOING FOR A BURTON” WELL NOW, THIS WAS TO DO WITH A TRAINING FOR AIR/SEA RESCUE BOYS/MEN TO DO WITH THE R.A.F IN 1944/45. THE OFFICES WERE ABOVE A FAMOUS GROUP OF TAILORS IN THE UK KNOW AS “THE BURTON TAILORING GROUP” MONTAGUE BURTON BEING THE FOUNDER, SO WHEN CADETS WERE ASKED TO DIVE/JUMP IN TO THE WATER, IT WAS CALLED “GOING FOR A BURTON” THE SAME EXPRESSION BEING USED WHEN PLANES HAD TO DITCH IN TO THE SEA…….WHEW!!!!!
A HANDY FIND THAT SHOP YOU FOUND, A SADDLE TOO……THAT SURE IS OLD, WHO KNOWS IT MIGHT HAVE YOUR NAME ON IT………..LOVE YOU….JENNIE XX

      • Thanks Jennie, Inquiring minds want to know and such. I have a curious mind and I want to know the meaning of words/phrases. Always used to have a dictionary nearby or make a phone call before the internet. That is very interesting. I would never have guessed that one.
        Love ya
        Tonie

  48. SUE…….WELL I THINK I THOUGHT OF NEARLY EVERYTHING TO ENCOURAGE A SALE YESTERDAY, BUT TO BE HONEST, I AM TOO KNACKERED GETTING THE HOUSE SORTED OUT TO BAKE THEM COOKIES, COURSE I COULD CHEAT AND BUY SOME MUFFINS AND LEAVE THE OVEN ON LOW SO THEY GET THE SMELL….
GAVE THEM REFRESHMENTS THOUGH, THEY WERE NICE FOLKS, SHE WAS A MIDWIFE, HE A FIREFIGHTER, BUT MOANED ABOUT THE GARAGE…….FELT LIKE PUTTING THE BISCUITS BACK IN THE TIN, ONLY GOOD BREEDING PREVENTED ME.
GOSH, THE OLD BONES ARE YELLING TODAY…..OVERDONE THINGS AGAIN I THINK, BUT WHAT DO YOU DO, NO MAID TO DO IT,,,HA HA!!
WE HEARD YESTERDAY, THAT NOW THE WAIT FOR MY MOM TO GET BACK HOME WILL BE UP TO SIX MONTHS, SHE IS UPSET, AS SHE FIGURES HER NIECE WILL BE GRITTING HER TEETH….THEY GET ON FINE, BUT BOTH USED TO THEIR INDEPENDENCE, ITS A BUMMER, BUT THERE YOU ARE……………..I AM SURE IT WON’T BE LONG BEFORE YOU ARE BACK BEHIND THE WHEEL ON YOUR OWN MY FRIEND……….IT WILL COME IN GOOD TIME, WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP FOR YOU MEDICAL WISE…………I WISH YOU A NICE WEEKEND AND HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE VISIT FROM BETH….LOVE YOU JEN X

    • Jennie, I’m sorry that couple was so upset by the location of the garage. There will be others. When we sold our house in CA to come up to OR I had close to fifty Open Houses, over a period of 4 years. What a pain. What I was trying to say in my entry to you yesterday wasn’t really about making the cookies, it was about what the cookies do to the senses. The smells, the feel, the warmth, the memories these things engender in people. I used to buy the roll of cookies and just slice and bake, or like Tonie mentioned, the candles. I liked the apple pie and cinnamon ones, too. You can even get candle warmers so you don’t have to light the candle yet the fragrance is there. That’s easier than any baking. I wouldn’t serve them tea. I would keep a distance and let them talk among themselves so you don’t have to hear their criticisms. They sting.
I am sorry to hear the repairs to your mom’s apartment are moving so slowly. I know she must be so impatient, poor thing.
Apparently you missed my entry of a couple of days ago when I mentioned going to PT and driving myself. I have passed that hurdle. I think Jim and I will shop together today just because a big shopping trip is still too difficult for me. All that standing, whew. The very mild exercises are really hard for me. I’m ashamed at how wimpy I’ve become. You laze, you lose. That’s what I’ve learned. Now I have to rebuild this old body. Slowly is the way to do it and I would prefer it happen overnight. Hope you’re having a good weekend. Love, Sue

  49. Jennie:
You can always invest in a nice “food scented” candle to burn. Apple spice is a good one, smells of apple pie 🙂 I used to burn one and my son would fuss at me thinking I had baked a pie 🙂 Patience my friend. As we learned from my ordeals, He is an “ON TIME” God.
    Love ya
    Tonie
